[Qs] Trophy Newb - Trophy General

Hi
1. In future could we expect custom rom support such as CM?
2. How easy is it to do the 32GB card fix
3. I read about a registry edit which allows for drag and drop, could this in anyway harm the device?
4. I need a case (not worth making new thread) preferably from this site: trademe .co .nz

[Q] App2SD with original 2.1 ROM

Hey everybody,
I'm new to this forum and this is my very first post. What I wanted to ask is if it is somehow possible to enable App2Sd in the original stock ROM. I already rooted the phone but do not like the idea of flashing an recovery mod and afterwards an custom ROM. Also I googled a quite a lot and found some articles where some opinions like editing the "init.rc"-file were mentioned - but they didn't explained it any further. Another one said something like setting a symlink to the ext3-partioned sd card...
One of this articles is taken from this forum: Here
I would be really happy if somedbody could help me!
Thanks in advance!

I like this idea too. i've been tried a lot customized roms and finally stated at the h3g UK official rom. rooted using universalrooting tool, RA unlocked via the developers' kit method. ready to flash any zipped customized rom but still sunning on the official rom. keen to any idea of how to enable or even add an app2sd+ function on the official rom. Any idea would be welcome!
There are some apps on market that make it possible ....

Thanks! I'll try!

A few questions to start with.

1. Can someone link me a flashing tutorial for this phone for Android?
2. Whats the difference between NAND and SD Method? Please explain in Detail.
3. Is there any official Stock firmware of Android for this phone? If yes, where do I get them?
4. Is Cyanogen Mod available phone this phone?
5. Is this completely safe for Android flashing?
6. I would be a lot happier if people don't reply "Use the search function instead".

It doesn't matter what you want, the 'use the search button' response is the most helpful because these are all questions which can be answered by that magical thing. Stop being lazy, and search in order to learn.

1.
Go to android nand section and see the sticky thread linking to some tutorials.
2. Nand rom is flashed to internal memory (nand .) and sd rom will have all files on sd and will load things in ram etc (you need it if you want to stay with win mobile or using it with wp7)
3. No but there are many different roms for every taste
4. Yes see the nand section
5. If you follow the tutorial etc you will never have any problem (did about 50 rom flashes and no problem)
6. Hope I get a thanks for not posting :use the search function

Thanks mate you get a "Thanks"
So I am guessing the NAND one would be safer....
EDIT:
1. Whats the latest supported Android version?
2. Are there any tiny little bugs with all Android ROMs like suppose Camera not work or stuff like that?

Yeah
1. Latest android version is 2.3.5, but there are mainly customized and optimized roms but that's what a community is for
2. There are some bugs in sense 3.0roms (only low quality recording).
But for example the nexus rom has nearly no bugs.
Depends on how much new things you want etc.
Read some threads and decide which fits best for you.
Cheers

1. I don't use cyanogen mod so you will have to decide. But most of the roms are based on nightlies so they are probably not the stablest. Find a stable one by reading the threads.
2. No they are mostly based on cm7 of desire etc.
3. You will be able to install about 30 apps (depends on if they can be moved to sd via the normal app2sd way)
Good luck

Ace Think Tank [Noob friendly - softbricks, bootloops, edify, etc]

If you are serious about Android then be prepared to read - that is the one thing which will separate you from the average user.
To get you started you will need to know a few basics before you can start contributing to a community which has dedicated themselves in bringing better Operating Systems (Roms) to our phones. By knowing these basic steps you will be able to help iron out bugs from whatever Rom you have decided to keep on your phone and thus, improving your own user experience.
If you are completely new to this then you should read Glevitan's Starter Guide. It contains everything you need to know and it is a mandatory prerequisite before you can post in this thread seaking help.
Now that you have read and understood some of the terminology and how to recover from possible issues, you can root your phone with the A high-level DHD/Inspire manual S-OFF hack concept for advanced users [NOTE: The AAHK HAS BEEN RETIRED FOR NOOBS. IT IS FOR ADVANCE USERS ONLY. REFER TO THIS STICKY INSTEAD [How to] ROOT without the Hack Kit] Even if you do encounter issues, knowing the terminology, what you did and what went wrong will help communicating your issue so we can find a way to solve it. If you read the starter guide you should know that we don't recommend using HTC dev to unlock your bootloader. However, if you did go this route you can read this helpful guide: [NOOB] Flashing a custom ROM & getting it to boot IF bootloader is htcdev unlocked. And finally, our own resident and esteemed Glevitan is working on a tool to make it easier for you all. [ROOT] [TOOL] Easy Ace Root Tool
After having spent some time in the XDA threads reading a lot more than what you should post, you will have realized that almost any question you could possibly think about has already been asked over a dozen times and why so many emphasize the importance of searching for your answer first. You would also come to realize what are the benefits of setting up ADB. Among one of ADB (Android debug Bridge - [GUIDE] ADB - Usage, Tips, Tricks and More! and [GUIDE]ADB Workshop and Guide for everyone) uses is creating logcats. These logcats help developers finding what is causing a bug and how to fix it. This is a quick [Tutorial] How To Logcat. However, this quick tutorial will only help you get started. Keep in mind that apps like aLogcat or Catlog could shorten important output from the log. Another one: Learn to logcat like a Pro!
To be able to help developers create a better user experience for us, we need to create a bug report. The reason why we first need to search the forum is to avoid confusing the developer by cluttering the thread with repeated reports, of bugs and questions which as mentioned earlier, most likely have already been asked. To have a better understanding of the different instances we can create logs, then have a look at: [TUT]Report a bug I do believe this can not be emphasized enough and thus, what better way than reading it from existz own words.

1.Basic Stuff: In this section you will find the common language that is related to Android / HTC Ace devices. This is fundamental for you to understand how things work.
2.Rooting: THIS IS OUT OF SERVICE...CHECK THE UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER TOOL IN PARAGRAPH 4
3.Fixing a messed bootloader: You are not good at listening advices or reading for comprehension. You flashed a froyo RUU or hboot in your GB shipped device? Thank God attn1 was around. This is the Hboot fix for you. All credits go for the Hack Kit Channel devs. I have not done anything but put it here
4.HTCDEV tool: So far, this is the best and only way to do the flashing stuff....
5.Unrooting: In case you need to take your phone to the service centre or lost your mind and want the stock rom back (is there anybody that actually does? :cyclops ) you will find everything you need to know here.
6.Flashing roms: The right steps to flash successfully a custom rom…you can´t miss it. If you do, then you haven´t read carefully.
7.Doing / Restoring a nandroid backup: In case you mess it or you don't like what you get on a new rom, a nand backup is what will save your A**. Follow the path and you will see the light at the end of the tunnel.

FAQ & Notice
FAQ :
What Is the Best Battery,Performance GB/ICS/JB ROM?
There is no best ROM, the opinion of each ROM is different from one person to the other, it is subjective.
Is there a recommended Radio for ROM x?
There isn't a recommended radio for any ROM, since the Radio depends where you live, it is best to test each one for a few days to see which one works best for you.
Can I Flash RIL For AOSP ROM?
No, the RIL is sense based ROM,AOSP RIL is provided in the ROM
How Can I Boot in Recovery/Bootloader if My Volume Rocker is Broken?
You must setup adb and then the command:
adb reboot recovery/bootloader
Why Don't We Have Any OFFICIAL CM9 ROM?
Because the CM team always makes everything work (camera, camcorder, etc) and since we don't have the kernel 3.0 source, there isn't any OFFICIAL CM ROM from them.
Is There Any Official Rooted Sense 3.0 ROM?
Yes, There it is
Notice when Posting On the Dev Thread :
Please Read the First Post, It Usually Stated What's Working and Not Working
Don't Post Any THANKS, just use the thanks button
Don't Even Ask ETA of the ROM, the ROM will update when it's ready
Full Wipe Is Recommended when Updating the ROM, but also can try it without (this is basic, even if it's not stated on 1st post)
ADB is easy, very simple to use. Its the CLI interface that most cannot get used to and are afraid of.
A great XDA guide/overview on ADB here. --> [GUIDE] ADB - Usage, Tips, Tricks and More!
After a full wipe including sd card, to restore a backup mount sd card to pc, create the folder "clockworkmod/backup" place backup there - unmount, flash.
Is there a way to flash a backup using adb? If yes, do the folders need to be created or not and what would the command be? I couldn't find an answer for that.
Edit: Answer is no. Why? I have no clue.

ok, before sending the file via PM, I can answer you...there's no choice of restoring a backup from adb. That is the same as flashing a Custom Rom....those files are packed in a certain way that won't be possible to be flashed in hboot (PD98IMG.zip) way.

Greets to all
Greets to all from another noob. Well, not a complete noob but a noob here on XDA given my few posts. My deep thanks for allowing a thread where sometimes there just might not be such a thing as a stupid question but honest ones instead,.... Hoping I can contribute something here as an owner of a softbank DHD here in Kyoto, Japan aka the 001HT. I spend alot of time trying to dig up general info from all over the i'net to help answer questions especially for ACE owners so I hope that might be of some help. Grant Barker's homepage is a great resource, (hope its allowed to mention that~). My first minor contribution------ 64GB MicroSD card usage with the DHD. It may already be well-known but for all us noobs who aren't too sure make no mistake..... I have the SanDisk Class 10 64GB MicroSD card and it works flawlessly in my DHD. Since I like to pack lots of MP3's and several full-length HD movies into my handset (helps keep the kids quiet on long drives ) being able to have that much storage space is a blessing! So, just to reiterate, 64GB microSD card--- no problems!

Absolutely, we were all noobs, still are and probably remain being noobs. There is too much information to cover and too little time to do it in. [Q] Nexus 4 4.3 Factory Image with openpdroid

Hi all,
This is probably my first post so before I go ahead I'd like to thank all developers on this site. It's got a wealth of information that helped me a lot.
Unfortunatey I haven't found a way to do this yet, so I'm posting and asking for help with this issue I'm having...
I used to run CM10.1 on my Nexus 4, I always patched that rom with autopatcher to apply openpdroid so I could set privacy stuff using the Pdroid Manager app.
I decided to go back to the stock rom due to issues I was having (my phone actually got bricked and I managed to fix it following excellent instructions that I found here).
Now I can't apply the openpdroid patch to the stock ROM because autopatcher only accepts zip files and I'm sure that it needs the structure of the ROM.zip to work. The Google factory image is a ROM.tgz file and upon extracting a zip and the factory image, I noticed that the structure is completely different. I have no idea how to create a zip file out of the stock rom.
I'm wondering if anybody could do this? I'm not sure if autopatcher requires deodexing... All I need is a stock 4.3 mako image in the form of a zip file that works like the CM roms, so I can patch it with openpdroid via autopatcher.
Is this possible? Could someone here do it, please?
I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.
Thanks all for reading!
Welcome to the great xda-developers forums
Well you should search the Forum with the forum search for a tutorial to zipalign your stock rom, there are many out there i think.
I think i even saw a rom kitchen for that.
That thread belongs to Q&A by the way
(Just a tip on the side)

Thank you, as you can see I'm new here I tried to search for something but I'm not sure if I was using the right terms, so I decided to ask. I didn't even know about this zipalign or rom kitchen stuff, but now that you mentioned it I will research. Thanks!

Just my opinion but I think it would be better to find a stock, 4.3 deodex ROM in a flashable zip. I'm dead sure there's a few floating around in android or original android development. That would make it easier to patch
Edit: this should do, stock 4.3 zip:

Is there really no custom ROM for Samsung Galaxy J5 ?

It seems impossible to find anything when 1000s of Google results are scummy suspicious paywall blogs with oddly similar comment sections. I was looking to update my phone to use Cyanogen mod but the device is not on the supported device list but there are devices from lower tier levels.
Full name for my device is: Galaxy J500FN (maybe it has a different name elsewhere ?) a mid range Samsung phone. In Europe. I found a thread about rooting it but that's not really the same.
Not sure how/where to look for answers.
I own the same device currently and would to get answers to this question. This phone has many users in Asia and Middle East. Btw the full name for my device is Galaxy j500H
I have searched a lot but no luck. I could find anything reliable.

Maybe just wanting something different. There are phones out there from Samsung and other manufacturers of lower and same tier with Android 5.1 which have custom roms.
And it's not just look and feel improvements, voice input/output, better image/video quality, batter life etc..

I specifically want a deodexed rom just for Xposed framework to work. Other than that I am pretty much satisfied with the stock rom.

Ok getting the deodexed rom is easy.
Just install kitchen and cygwin on pc and setup the up correctly.
And then using cwm recovery make a backup of a factory reseted device and then just send me a screenshot of folders which you have.
After i tell you which filder to choose paate them into kitchen and start kitchen to make a working folder.
Then inside kitchen menu deodex apps and framework folder and then repack the rom.
After repacking flaah the rom using cwm recovery.
Your root will not be lost.
In least cases if root lost after flaahing the re root it using same method as you used before for rooting.
And for improvments you want in custom rom. I will try to get them in the rom.

Thanks but currently CWM is not available, I am using twrp and I know the procedure you just mentioned but I'd rather wait for someone to cook a rom than do it myself. Time boht kam hai dost
So install the terminal emulator and write this.
Su
Tar -c /system/* /sdcard/system.tar
And wait patiently for the emulator to respond ok
Now you got the system.tar
And now get the boot.img from the rom
When you get both the files paste them in original rom folder in kitchen and stary cygwin
You can get good guids on cygwin and dsixda kitchen and how to set them.up correctly.
If not then i will tell you guys tommorow. Today going to sleep it too late here 1:27 am.
Good night bros

Hey,
I'm joining there.
So, after a bit of research i found a CM12.1 for Galaxy E5, wich is almost the same phone as the J5 (same proc, same RAM, same display). If anyone can port that rom to this device, that would be awesome.

I just cant understand this new porting method (5.1.1 has the system.new.dat - and the base rom is just a tar.md5).

There are many roms for moto g3 which is very slow in app opening when compared to j5,
So why can't we hv roms.
C tech trinkets video moto g3 vs j5 on YouTube
J5 is midrange beast.
Because that's not how things work, your phone opens apps "faster" good for you, doesn't mean anything.
