Hey everybody,
I'm new to this forum and this is my very first post. What I wanted to ask is if it is somehow possible to enable App2Sd in the original stock ROM. I already rooted the phone but do not like the idea of flashing an recovery mod and afterwards an custom ROM. Also I googled a quite a lot and found some articles where some opinions like editing the "init.rc"-file were mentioned - but they didn't explained it any further. Another one said something like setting a symlink to the ext3-partioned sd card...
One of this articles is taken from this forum: Here
I would be really happy if somedbody could help me!
Thanks in advance!

I like this idea too. i've been tried a lot customized roms and finally stated at the h3g UK official rom. rooted using universalrooting tool, RA unlocked via the developers' kit method. ready to flash any zipped customized rom but still sunning on the official rom. keen to any idea of how to enable or even add an app2sd+ function on the official rom. Any idea would be welcome!
There are some apps on market that make it possible ....

Which ones?
App2sd frontera market for example....

Thanks! I'll try!

Excute me, I've surveyed a lot of tutorial, but most of them told me to use customized firmware to enable the App2SD function.
I have a rooted original firmware with version 1.5.
I want to install App2SD into this phone.
Does anyone can teach me how to do it?
Thanks a lot~
Mod. edit: not dev related, moved to general
Thank jebus Apps2SD is built in to custom ROMs, because it is a PITA to get right. I've only ever got it working once out of over a dozen attempts.
There's a thread over in the G1 on how to do it. Honestly I don't understand why you don't install Cyanogen Mod which will bring you up to 2.1 and give you A2SD, but whatever...
I'm just worried about the stability, and I like HTC sense's contact which can sync with FaceBook.
But, maybe I should try it.
Thanks for your advice.
Hey Guy's,
Just got my HD2 and have been reading in the forum but just want to ask a couple of questions and get some feedback. I've read the newb thread and understand what I need to do as far as radio, HSPL and i've seen CWM recovery. My questions are...
1. Once I install a NAND ROM with HSPL and CWM recovery, is it possible to go back to ALL stock ROM, SPL and whatever recovery the HD2 came with? I think I read to just flash a Official ROM and it will do this?
2. Is CWM the way to go... Does it work like it should with backups and wipes and such?
3. Which ROMs have you guy's found to be the best daily drivers and most stable both Froyo and Gingerbread?
4. Do the NAND ROMs have root already or do I need to root somehow?
Thanks in advance for any help with these questions!
First of all welcome inthe HD2 "world".
To answer your questions:
1/ Yes
2/ I don't use it but it seems to work as it has to.
3/ Noone can answer such a question, it depends of what you want to do with your device. We all use it in a totally different way (except we all give calls).
Most of the devs do a very good job.
So read their thread, what is working, what is not.
Read the community comments (you will see the problems they encounter, the questions they have)
Most important, try some. After a while you will find the one which is suitable for you... and maybe become a flash addict as many of us
4/ all the one I tried where rooted, just read the description of the ROM
PS: carefull of the type of NAND as we no have DAF (without CWM), zip (CWM)... but it will just not flash, I don't think there's a big risk.
Thanks for the quick reply! (Thank You button hit)
That helps alot... And yes, i'll be a flash addict just as I am on all of my phones!
Yes, welcome to HD2. Best phone out with tons of options. I've tested many roms and have to say my current setup is outstanding. Refer to my signature, you will find your phone will run great. You will also be ready for a WinMo 7 flash in the event you care to try it out.
My first thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!
Champagne tonite
LOL...Not a problem!
Thanks goes to you also Devils1stBorn... I will try that ROM out first, it is one that I was looking at. Does it have the black notificatoin bar by chance?
OK... I'm on CleadDroid v1.11 now and it is AWESOME! Thanks again Truc007 and... Devils1stBorn for the ref to that ROM, but the only problem I seem to be having is 5 of my purchased apps and one free app won't install from the market. I keep getting Download Unsuccessful.
Any idea?
Are you on NAND or SD??

Thanks for the help DH!
I switched to another ROM and all is fine now. I'll wait for an update to CleanDroid and try it again then because it is an awesome ROM. But MDJ's is nice too.
Hey People!! I'm new to XDA and this is my first post :silly: I'd like to introduce a new ROM. So basically i want to make something different for the galaxy y- the phone we've all loved to love! I want to have a redesigned launcher looking somewhat similar to the ICS ad Jellybean with softkeys like the one on ICS. It should be Deodexed rooted and have access to many other features (like pre-installed chainfire and stuff like that :fingers-crossed: ). Im planning on updating the stock kernel to the Merruk Technology Pre-final v2.0 as i've used it and it seems pretty fast and stable (I'm still waiting for the build to be final). I've a Init.d hack with battery calibration and also a hack which (I don't know how) decreases your ram usage haven't tested it yet but people who've used it says it works on stock rom too (which to me seems impossible because stock rom dosen't support init.d. Correct me if i'm wrong :highfive I've decided what to call it too. Now i only need some help which if anyone could offer would be truly amazing to me........

Many themers of our forum have made guides for other users to learn from. You can search in the Themes and Apps section for them.
About bugs, first make the custom rom. If you encounter a bug, tell us and we'll be happy to help you.
could you please post the links of such posts which contain methods of themeing the status bar and launchers??? and also how do you edit some apks which ive downloaded from the play store??

just decompile and recompile the systemui and framework-res,
everything is in the drawable-ldpi
I too m making a rom but i think theming is much more difficult than making a rom so i suggest use someone's theme and ask him for permissions:thumbup:

Hi all,
This is probably my first post so before I go ahead I'd like to thank all developers on this site. It's got a wealth of information that helped me a lot.
Unfortunatey I haven't found a way to do this yet, so I'm posting and asking for help with this issue I'm having...
I used to run CM10.1 on my Nexus 4, I always patched that rom with autopatcher to apply openpdroid so I could set privacy stuff using the Pdroid Manager app.
I decided to go back to the stock rom due to issues I was having (my phone actually got bricked and I managed to fix it following excellent instructions that I found here).
Now I can't apply the openpdroid patch to the stock ROM because autopatcher only accepts zip files and I'm sure that it needs the structure of the ROM.zip to work. The Google factory image is a ROM.tgz file and upon extracting a zip and the factory image, I noticed that the structure is completely different. I have no idea how to create a zip file out of the stock rom.
I'm wondering if anybody could do this? I'm not sure if autopatcher requires deodexing... All I need is a stock 4.3 mako image in the form of a zip file that works like the CM roms, so I can patch it with openpdroid via autopatcher.
Is this possible? Could someone here do it, please?
I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.
Thanks all for reading!
Welcome to the great xda-developers forums
Well you should search the Forum with the forum search for a tutorial to zipalign your stock rom, there are many out there i think.
I think i even saw a rom kitchen for that.
That thread belongs to Q&A by the way
(Just a tip on the side)

Thank you, as you can see I'm new here I tried to search for something but I'm not sure if I was using the right terms, so I decided to ask. I didn't even know about this zipalign or rom kitchen stuff, but now that you mentioned it I will research. Thanks!

Just my opinion but I think it would be better to find a stock, 4.3 deodex ROM in a flashable zip. I'm dead sure there's a few floating around in android or original android development. That would make it easier to patch
Edit: this should do, stock 4.3 zip:

Hey Guys and Gals,
I recently got a note 3 and I did root it and install a custom rom on it. The custom rom I have installed is Omega Rom. I heard that you install a custom rom because you can customize it much more than the stock rom but how do I customize it?
Also I am open to suggestions to install other roms which can be customized easily and I do not lose the S-Pen Features.
Also since I have rooted my phone which are the apps that are recommended that need to be installed?
Cheers

Look for the Omega files app in the app drawer for installing mods. You will not loose S-Pen options with Samsung based custom roms.

I personaly liked JackyAway rom and Lean Kernel, usefull apps are Titianium Backup, root explorer, Mobile Odin Pro, Triangle Away, superSU Pro, Helium. But there are many good roms and kerels, just try some cause its all a matter of preference.
In my opinion I would just read the first page of each rom and take a look at what the dev has done. Read fixes and make sure everything runs as it should. Sometimes they will post screen shots of what the user interface looks like and what tweaks they offer. YouTube each rom if you don't want to read everything. Many will explain the pros and cons of that particular rom. Hope that helps.
