I have the same issue, I though it's cause by ROM MIUI osimood 1.8.5 but when flash to Virtous g-lite 1.0.3 it still happen. But it just happen when it in my pocket, otherwise it's never happen. I try to throw on bed, open Z hingle many times, vibrate it so hard..... this issue not happen. But when put in my pocket it happen again, don't understand? I think it's touch the power button or sth???
I think its not rom-related problem, because lots of people are reporting this issue.
Sometimes happened me too, ( I had on cm7, virtuos and stock rom ) the phone just freezes.
look what connection have you on, (wifi / mobile / gps and so)
turn off all of them, reboot and try again (without turning them on)
Some people just say it's randomic, i think it depends if gps is on when you don't have any app that requires it opened.
Just try it.

But i just use wifi-location, turn off GPS all the time sometimes i think it cause by magnetic from my case, im using MOFI case
Same problem with any ROM and usually when i put the phone in my pocket.
I've diagnosed it because i reproduced the shutdown while the phone were booting (so can't be a software problem) simply by opening and closing hardware keyboard (Z mechanism) with strength
The workaround i've found and that actually perfect works for me is to increase the size of the battery applying some paper strips and fixed them to battery with scotch tape See pic:
Now i've the phone always on even if i put it on pocket (and the pocket on my bicycle case and run...) and also the boot strength keyboard closing test always pass!
I'd like to try this method too.

I don't know what happened this problem just started 2 days ago. I've tried reinstalling rom. Installing a new one, and every time. Data wipe factory reset.
The problem is after about 15-20 seconds of phone being woke up it works perfect no problems. Then for so reason when I try to touch the screen I have to push a little harder than normal and tap a couple times. Only on the sides of the screen never in the middle, but that is not even the real problem. When the phone starts acting up, and I try to touch the any where on the screen every time I touch the screen my status bar comes down. Likes its over lapping. Especially when I'm trying to text. I go to press the "P" and right when I touch it the status bar drops. I don't know how to fix this. Like I said I reinstalled and downloaded a new rom. Is there a better and more efficient way to reset my phone? Please any help much appreciated.
Interesting, I have seen this as well, but only on OverClocked roms. If yours is over clocked, get one of the OC apps and set it to 528 or what ever ours are set to by default and see if it helps.
Usually goes away on its own for me. Haven't had it at all with DD or FroYo
Yes. please forgive spelling, but it started with the Pure Hero rom. I do believe it was OC'ed. Then I switched to the one I have been using for about 3 months. Alloyius*spelling*. That is oc'ed also and it didn't do the status bar thing for about 2 hours. I was excited I had my phone back. Then BOOOOM. Fuggin up again. Downloading set cpu now. Sure 528 is what it should be set or should I try some other #'s? Thanks for the help.
Damn the only set cpu app I know of is "Set Cpu" lol, and it will not accept my debit card for the 1.99$. Is there another generic cheap one I can use for about 10 secs to see if problem is fixed?

I updated to CM 7.1 RC1 last week and I've noticed a few times where the device has locked up after "going to sleep". Essentially, if I leave it on the coffee table with WiFi on and let the screen turn itself off, it won't respond when I return to it 20-30 minutes later. I have to force reboot via the power button + nook button.
Just curious if anyone else has noticed it or if it's just me. If it's a common issue I'll escalate to the CM folks, if it looks like just me I'll start the long and tedious process of uninstalling apps one by one. =)
I have at least one every day. I figure its just a price I pay. Over all its the best rom I have used.

Only once have I had the issue you described. I leave WiFi on some of the times, but majority of the time I have it off when I am done using it. I know some people have mentioned using Tasker or something similar to turn WiFi off when screen goes off so that it can perhaps be prevented.
EDIT: I don't believe I can link yet on my account, but search General for the post "NC, CM7, Dalingrin OC kernel.. Sleep of Death" and start about post #6.
Thanks bio, that looks like the exact issue I'm experiencing.

That's a pretty generic statement... what did you blacklist within Droid wall to increase battery life / fix the issue?
I'm facing random freezes when I open an application like tweetdeck or mercury and leave it updating from the internet. After some time, I'm not using it, it just stucks. To get it back to life I have to press for a few seconds the power button to shutdown it and then again to power it on. I have used different nightlies, voltages or governors but it is still here.
Now, I don't have freezes since yesterday that I really reduced the voltages but I'm not sure if my problem is solved.
configuration: 144 nightly 300-1100mhz xlv profile
not sure if anyone has told you that what you describes is called:
Sleep of death.
Felt to be possibly related to wifi being on all the time. In wifi settings, go to advanced change it wifi to off when screen off.

I'm sorry. I use the white list feature and only check mark the current application that I want to use and allow to access the internet. It keeps everything else from using background data.
For example right now I selected xda and updated rules.

It seems that I solved it reducing the voltages. When sod occurs a black screen appears right? I never had sod, only random freezes.

Hey, so I have a HTC G2, unrooted, stock 2.3.4. Currently, the phone has a horrible battery life ( I think ), the SD card wont stay mounted EVER ( i have not gone one whole day with the SD card mounted ), and the Keyboard constantly glitches causing me to have to reboot the phone in order to fix.
The keyboard, when in text entry, would revert to being used for shortcuts. I.E when I am replying to a text, the phone doesnt recognize that I want to use the full keyboard, shortcuts to mail and internet and blah, blah..
Anyways, I've been looking around and am interested in loading a new ROM onto it, with the hopes of that fixing the problems, or at least partially. But i'm new to rooting and I dont want to get a ROM with more issues than im hoping to solve. I see a few that I like, but am wary of just jumping into my phone and digging around like a madman.
I like the 4.0 ROMs but it seems as if all of them have a problem with the Camera, so idk if i want to deal with that. in terms of stability, battery life, and customization, any suggestions, tips, or solutions?
Do follow the wiki to root your phone, that's the only safe way. Its not to hard maybe half hour if your skilled three hours if your way behind. Its pretty straight forward though. As for roms just try miui.us, if your not into that go for the stable cm7. After you try those there are amazing other options for customized roms but stick with the simple stuff if your not to involved in custom roms, good luck!

Btw I've had that keyboard bug in other roms as well. Try to press the search key on the keyboard that seems to fix it. If that doesn't work u can always remove the shortcuts in the settings

I have the same random issue, funny thing is I have no shortcuts set, they are all removed, Its happened on the stock roms and sense roms, I've just lived with rebooting my phone everytime its happened, but i will try the search key next time.
yeah, I also dont have any of the user-chosen shortcut buttons in use. Im talking about the keyboard acts as if I'm not in an "insert text" area, instead thinking its on the homescreen. where if you press 'C' it will link to some shortcut, and so-on. but I'm gonna try rooting it tonight. I re-formatted my SD card and it hasn't randomly un-mounted since then, I suspect due to the corrupted files my computer found. still having horrible battery life. I generally leave for school around 10-1pm and back around 9pm, the phone is almost always 15% or less by this time, most often less than 5%. all i ever use is bluetooth, and 4g data is on. I kill all the apps, have no music playing, and the phone still dies in my pocket on its own.
gonna try CM7. =D
anything I should know before rooting? i think i have to downgrade my phone first, i see that popping up alot.
It is the search key, promise. Something gets a little screwy, be it all our kernels or the keyboard itself.
Same used to happen to me. There are preset shortcuts for the base system, so even though you don't have anything set, hitting the search key + "whatever" (E for Email and such) will take you to certain places. Just tap the search key when it happens and it'll stop.

ICS in Note
After upgrading to ICS via kies,
Battery seems to drain very fast.
Camera hangs up sometimes and other camera related apps like Instagram also but maybe the pic quality is little better.
It seems to crash when some other apps runs too.
Not sure if it was there before but I can pause music and video if I show my palm on the screen.
The screen rotates faster than in GB with a pause at the beginning though.
News fonts are good.
Window animations are good but still dont' know how to stop it since it might be draining battery fast.
Can use Chrome now and it's fast.
I cannot use Mass Storage Mode. I recieve a "Ui stopped to work" error.
I am facing,
1. High android OS usage. Sometime its higher than Brightness, and most of the time its highest usage of batt after brightness. (I read somewhere, it said its calculation errors, but I think its not, cause my battery no longer last that long.)
2. Camera will sometimes fail to operate. I really dunno what is wrong with that.
3. Phone just cant go into deep slp. Its being kept awake by some apps (Which I cant narrow it) Using BetterBatteryStats, I found out its I2_HSIC. (Whats this I2_HSIC ??)
I am using a 5400mAh mugen batt. previously on GB, my usage can last me 24hrs, now it can only last 16hrs or less. I installed lesser apps, and lesser widgets. Disable account sync and google backup. Settings more or less kept the same.
Overnight my batt can reduce by 21%, it never happened before. lol. ICS...

I have a bug I have not seen mentioned.
Occasionally, usually about 1 time per day, My phone display will start to flash, with random green and red colors. The screen I'm on, will flash those colors then star to shake and slide.
It looks like a television station not tuned quite right on an analog antenna (if anybody remembers that!)
I can't reproduce it regularly, but It think it has happened when going from an Application, back to the home screen using the home button.
I am on ICS, Taiwan, stock, not rooted.

I faced this issue with stock ICS (rooted) .
I opened the browser to html5test.com , and the screen filled up with lines (similar to a TV noise) . Turning off did not seem to work, so i did a battery pull.
Unable to reproduce the problem so far!

I can get the screen back by just waiting it out. Usually takes about 2 minutes. I sure do wish I knew what was happening, though, so I could confirm no damage was being done.

As far as #2 goes, go to your battery stats and see if "media" is listed. If so, force close it and try again. Seems to work for me. I'm not sure if it is just me or not because I have been playing with settings lately, but the media scanner tends to run wild it seems (also seems to lend to battery drain).
I am just disappointed that they left out some of the nice features of ics like the updated gallery and camera. Seems kind of lazy to me and no wonder things arent working well if they are mix and matching gingerbread and ics rather than going all in and starting development from there. I would definitely go back to using one of the non tw ics roms if it weren't for the sod issues I was having...

2. Sync errors: calendar sync freezes up every once in a while
3. Brightness slider in notification bar gone, tasker can not effect change of brightness anymore, only choice is to keep automatic brightness on, otherwise blinded out in sun.

hi...just upgraded my nexus 7 to 4.1.2...its great to have landscape rotation on home screen but found a small bug.. .when fonts are set to HUGH and switching on from stand by to get the clock and slide to open screen...when in landscape, the clock sometimes does not show all the digits. ..ex. 11.45 shows only 11.4.....anyone got this problem or knows how to fix it?
One other thing that I found on the same screen when in landscape is that when sliding your finger up in the circle to go to google, if you keep sliding your finger above the google icon you will unlock the screen to the home screen instead of going to Google Now!!
thanks. .Michael Mock
Bums.
I haven't got an answer for you, but this seems to be the right threat to put what I've noticed in too.
Has anyone found that since 4.1.2 that their N7 doesn't like to connect to GPS/get location anymore? Before, it never had a problem at all, it was really fact, but now it just sits there 'getting location'. Irritating, but has anyone else got that?
I've also noticed that I can't plug my N7 in to charge without it suddenly turning on. Really weird.

I reckon the switching on when you connect the charger is a deliberate bug fix to avoid damaging the battery - the battery gets alarmingly hot (battery damaging) if connected to the charger and the nexus 7 is powered down (at least on mine that is). When android is booted up and running, battery charges with minimal heat production.

I can't say I've noticed mine gets hot when its off unless I leave something covering it, which I don't on purpose. But it seems to get a wee bit warm either way, but thanks. That would make sense.
