Cpu settings - G2 and Desire Z General

Hey could someone suggest me some good cpu settings to go fast and save battery

Definitely using about the same settings here also. I find a get better performance with OnDemand.

Id say so. But 1.2ghz might be a bit high. Am I crazy or is 800mhz enough? I'm on CM7 and 806mhz is plenty fast for me. Maybe 1ghz for a Sense ROM.

It depends what your running I imagine. But leaving it to the stock speed I can see some lag when attempting to open other programs or move from one screen to the other. That's one of the reason why people are OC'ing their devices. But if your like a friend of mine he basically only does txt msg, browsing and phone calling then he doesn't need to have anything changed. He's using the STOCK Sense rom that comes with the device.

I do a lot on my phone, but I run a tight ship. On CM7 nightly with a stock 2.3 launcher, the phone doesn't need more than 806mhz in order to keep from being sluggish. CM7 is extremely lightweight and efficient.
But like I said, a Sense ROM probably should be running at 1ghz to stay smooth.

I'm running MIUI 1.8.12 with few scripts.
OC'ed at 1.2ghz. It's a great little device the way it is. CM7 was running smooth when I had that on. But I'm playing around

[POLL] What's Your Overclocked Speed?

You might have already figured out that HD2 can be overclocked as high as 1.5 GHz on its powerful Qualcomm SnapDragon Processor. Many people run their devices on default clock speed, but there are few of us who overclock their devices to get max out of it. So i have started this thread to know what your max clock speed is and what governer are you using. Post replies below. Also, don't forget to mention your Phone's Temperature if available.

1305MHz using interactive, temp alway @ 28°C even when phone get hot?? tho alway careful to let it cool down when it feels too hot.
I have underclocked ... to 720Mhz (interactive)
Performance is okay and saves battery live
Temperature is about 28 celcius.
1267, 768 when battery less than 30%, 422 when screen is off
On-demand w/screen on, conservative when <30% and screen off
Not great on battery, but good performance an no wake lag
CPU Load jump or whatever it is, set to 30%

Sticks with no overclock
using a rom which is fast enough and saves battery life, Dont see a point that needed to overclock CPU
Undervolted to 576mhz, for better battery life.
Runs smooth enough for all apps, including navigation and games
No overclock for me, don't need it, phone is fast enough as it is.
Clock speed: 998mhz (default), governor: ondemand, temp: n/a
Good enough for me sweet onough on may battery.
P.s. there seems to be no difference(performance wise) between rafpigna kernel oc'd @1.5ghz and tytung kernel oc'd @1.2ghz, when testing on linpack and/or other smarbench tools

Safe Overclock Speeds?

I've read many threads where people say they have their G2 up around 1.5 and I'm just wondering what is considered a safe OC speed?
Some of the threads say there isn't much noticeable difference after 1.2, can any of you confirm this?
I'm on meXdroid right now and I've been keeping it at 1.2 but it gives me the option of going up to 1.516, so I'm wondering if there's any damage that might be done if I go with the max.

I'm running CM7.1 at a max of 1.4 without any problems. Not sure there is such a thing as completely "safe" when overclocking, but I also read about many who are at 1.5 or higher. I did notice a slight improvement going from 1.2 to 1.4 on my phone, but nothing substantial.
its safe to oc at 1.5 the thing is you wont be gaining a lot of performance but you will be draining more juice
After 1.2 the only thing you get is more battery consuccion.
The safe way is keeping the cpu ondemand or conservative between 245 - 1200.
If you want safe battery you can use setcpu and make 2 profiles one in screen off (powersave 245-368) screen on (ondemand 245-1200).
Note: for miui screen off profile have to be (245-768) because (245-368) cause delay in incoming calls.
And remember always the scale depends what kernel you use.
I using now pershoot 2.6.35.14
Is good with battery life so i recommended to you.
I was using ILWT kernel v1.5.1, is more better on battery life but i notice some problems went i use maps.

Ive also looked into this quite a bit and most people say around 1200mhz is the sweet spot for battery and speed.
also overclocking depends on kernel
I've ran mine at 1.42 using Unity sense as a daily driver.

The OP is using meXdroidmod which has "tweaKr" script so no need for set CPU and he also has option to adjust voltages and many other tweaks. MeXdroidmod is awesome!
To the OP, just keep it at 1.2 . Like others have mentioned...just wasting juice if any higher.
HTC Vision(G2), meXdroidmod Ghost Chili AIO ROM/ICS CM7 theme.
I have mine at 1.6Ghz set on performance screen on, 368-768 ondemand screen off. I'm a medium/light user and will have around 20-30% left when i plug it in at night.
The amount you can overclock while still maintaining decent battery life really depends on if you're a light/medium/heavy user - because the charge is only being rapidly drained while the screen is on (if you have a sensible screen off profile set up). Light users can afford to run at high speeds on performance govenors, heavy users should run at lower speeds with conservative governors.
As for how safe overclocking is i'm not completely sure what the limits are, but there are people who run their G2's at 2Ghz and get no problems... the biggest danger is probably heat damage to the phone, but the battery will fail before you get to temperatures that will damage the phone so i wouldn't worry about that. The other concern is reducing the life of the cpu, however the longest you will have a phone is around 2 years, and an overclocked cpu will still last far longer than this.

The maximum speed our G2 can go is 2.03 but if you want battery and spped i recommend setting it up in between 0.9 and 1.3

the 7x30 processors are designed to run up to 1.5 so basically it's not oc. and the Desire z/G2 come with underclocked kernels on stock
Currenty oc my dz to 1.5ghz. Can oc to 1.9ghz without any problem.

i always thought they took Desire's 1GHz cpu and put it underclocked in the dz... so i oc it to 1GHz...

That's incorrect from what I've read the CPU the g2 has is a 800 stock its not underclocked or nothing that's how it came From HTC but its a 2nd Gen snapdragon and their for very recealient and efficient and their for can be overclocked .. and from what I have seen and read this CPU has been overclocked more then any other CPU on a phone ... its bad ass!
Oh yeah .. I'm running mine at 1.4max and .122min with ondemand on g-light 2.0.1 rom and no over heating

SetCPU best speed

Hey everyone, just wanted to post this to see what cpu speed works best for you guys.. Im using these preset things with the program like performance or power saver etc but i dont seem to notice a difference all of them seem to be the exact same.. Wondering how to make it good for like 50% power and 50% performance, basicly balancing the 2 out as long as its better than stalk and not burning out my cpu.. so thanks, let me know what works for you guys as ive heard its slightly different for everyone else

I use the standard "ondemand" governor with a 998max-245min, but the thing I found makes the most difference are the settings under "Advanced".
I use the below "Advanced" settings along with a 245-245 screen off profile.
Seems to get me the best battery and cpu scaling.
It also helps to use an undervolting kernel like Freedom-More.
Try that for a couple days.
NOTE: click the apply button a couple of times (might be bug but they sometimes don't take on 1 button click). Try them as is without "Set on Boot", until you are sure that your phone likes them. Plus, check after a reboot that you verify/reapply them.
Sampling rate: 20000
Up Threshold: 85
Ignore nice load: 0
Powersave Bias: 14

The "presets" are how the cpu scales i'd use "interactive" or "smartassv2" 245 min and max at 998+ then search around for here for various profile set-ups
I'm running the Gingerbread-Evo-Deck 1.3 with a Savaged Zen 2.2.1 CFS HAVS Kernel. I'm also undervolted 50mV, and using the interactive x governor set at 128MHz-768mhz. Running a few other simple tweaks learned from Carhauler, and I've got excellent battery life and great performance.
I currently run mine on an ICS rom & it comes standard with a tiatmat 4.1.0+ kernel & the cpu is running at about 245mhz-1036mhz with smartass governor(I usually set it to smartass v2 but it switches back to smartass haha). My battery life for me is enough to get me thru the day.

Get a new kernal. Try Tiamat 4.1
I have my SetCPU at 128min 1152max smartassV2(i CAN overclock up to 1267) with 1 profile:
Screen Off 128min 245max
My battery life is extremely good.

Setcpu Governers ?

okay im sorry if this is one of the most noobish questions, but what exactly are governors , and how do they help ?

Cpu governors "govern" how the cpu works. There is a list somewhere that explains what a few of them do. Basically they dictate how your cpu behaves and therefore the performance you see and power consumption you experience. I'll see if I can find that list.
Edit:
- The ondemand governor is the default option used by Android. It scales the CPU speed between the minimum and maximum speeds depending on CPU load. If the system needs more speed, the kernel will rapidly scale up the CPU speed. - The conservative sets the CPU speed in a similar way to the ondemand governor, but scales the CPU up much less rapidly. This would theoretically save battery power, but may lead to less responsiveness. - The userspace governor is currently useless. It's another way for applications to set the CPU speed that SetCPU does not use. - The powersave governor always keeps the CPU at the minimum set frequency. - The performance governor always keeps the CPU at the maximum set frequency.
Except for "userspace," no matter which governor you set, the CPU will always stay within the bounds of the maximum and minimum speeds you set in SetCPU.
smartass governor -is based on the concept of the interactive governor. I have always agreed that in theory the way interactive works -by taking over the idle loop -is very attractive. I have never managed to tweak it so it would behave decently in real life. Smartass is a complete rewrite of the code plus more. I think its a success. Performance is on par with the "old" minmax and I think smartass is a bit more responsive. Battery life is hard to quantify precisely but it does spend much more time at the lower frequencies. Smartass will also cap the max frequency when sleeping to 352Mhz (or if your min frequency is higher than 352 -why?! -it will cap it to your min frequency). Lets take for example the 528/176 kernel, it will sleep at 352/176. No need for sleep profiles any more!

I have the same PVS CPU than you with 0,9 Volt at 384Mhz and 1,05 Volt at 1,5GHz.
I could undervolt 50mV accross the board; undervolt the lowest frequenz (384Mhz) to 0,73 Volt and overclock the CPU to 2,0Ghz max.
Im running Cyanogenmod with Glitch Kernel and use Trickster Mod for OC and CPU UV.
With Glitch Kernel I can even undervolt the GPU 100mv accross the board with an increased max GPU of 450Mhz.
(More is possible, but I nearly dont play games with my tablet)
With this I get about 8 hours of SOD time with Surfing.
When I'm on a long business trip and use my N7 for (Kindle and pdf) offline book reading I reach something like 13-15hours SOD time.

I know a bit how i can get to know my cpu's pvs stepping, but since you have the same as me, what is it exactly? And is it considered a fast, normal or slow binned cpu?

yup, run that for like 30mins on classic test, should be fine if it doesn't crash

I did that, but with voltages that are stable there, antutu crashes. And with voltages that are antutu stable, my device crashes randomly. I can run the scaling test with very low voltages across the board for more than an hour and it doesnt crash.
With other apps it just crashes.
This is an experimental undervolt that rarely crashes when switching apps:
I dont know which clock speed and its corresponsing voltage is unstable because the clock speed ranges from 384 to 1512 mhz and i dont have a crash log.
So I added 12.5 mV across the board, and this hasnt crashed so far!
But, being the perfectionist that I am, I want the Ultimate Undervolt. Is there a way to see what frequency you are running when it crashes?

I achieve stable 700mV at 1026MHz...
30mins stress run on "stability test" app and on stress run on "setCpu"
At 1134MHz the tablet freezes for the first time when I switch to 7875mV
Isn't it weird??
I dont think the stability test app is working. I could undervolt 1512 mhz to 900mV and have it run stable, but everyday use stable is with 987.5mV

What are the Kernel setup settings that you choose and have you ever OCed to 2.2 and still get good undervolting?
