First, the border to where? Mexico, Canada, Cuba, Alabama, native Sprint coverage?
Second, the only AT&T towers your phone could possibly use are up north near Montana. They are formerly owned by alltel, 11114 should enable EV-DO access to these towers. All other towers are GSM and will not work with CDMA phones. The only reason the old Alltel towers (which are now being used by AT&T) will allow your phone to use them is because they are Dual-Mode GSM/CDMA hybrid towers.
In most (99.999%) cases AT&T towers can't be used by any Sprint phone.
EDIT: except maybe blackberry bold, HTC touch pro 2 and the Motorola Photon because they are GSM and CDMA phones (hybrid).
i will be goimg to mexico ok now so the 11114 prl is that all straight roaming or am i ok should i switch back... my cousin was on att but it was on roaming the entire time, if it cant be done then what is recomended for me to try to get service outthere i just dont want to be stuck buyn another prepaid phone outthere thats all..
11114 and 60680 will give the same international roaming.

01120 was discontinued. It was replaced with 11114 which pretty much has nationwide 3g roaming.

11114...it will even roam on networks not listed in the prl unlike 60680. Or activate a world phone such as the photon so you have the best of both worlds..cdma roaming and gsm.
Another thing to keep in mind is the Epic will not roam on the PCS band...they still haven't fixed that issue. So if there is cdma only in the pcs band you will not get any service.
Is there a link for that prl?

I bought Roam Control for a while but ultimately I need to roam at my office. I got no sprint signal inside the building. Before I got EVO I had a moto q9c and it roamed on verizon just fine with about 4 bars. My work cell phone is also verizon and I got the signal in my office but it is 1x signal.
Anyway, with roam control. I forced my EVO to roam but it will not connect to anything. Always says no signal..........
The problem is not that roam control does not work. It works when I am not in my office but I am not sure if it is roaming with verizon or US cellular. I might not have USC signal in my office but for sure I got verizon signal.
Thoughts???
Thanks!
Verizon roaming with RC works on my EVO... might want to reach out to the developer (https://sites.google.com/site/roamcontrol/faq... last entry on the FAQ). He's very helpful / responsive, I worked with him on creating the Locale/Tasker integration.
have you updated your prl?

I was about to pull the trigger on buying it. But the latest review said it had been updated to force a license check upon use. So if your Sprint signal is weak enough that it can't complete the license check, the app will not run. You're put in the catch-22 of wanting to roam because you don't have a usable signal, but the app that will let you roam won't run unless you first have a usable signal. I'm not buying it until either this is verified as false, or removed.
LOL - I just checked it in the market and he's updated the licensing so it only checks for a license the first time you run the app. Update the app and give it another shot.
I have updated my PRL. I also updated the App. No hope here
roam control wont work
I installed roam control on my evo 4g running vaelpek as my ROM. No matter what I do it wont force roam. It's version 1.5. Anybody else running this set up get it to work? My buddy has a Samsung Epic running cyanogen and it worked right away.

Incorrect....I have Roam Control, and I use it 4 days a week when I'm at school because the Sprint coverage on my campus is abysmal to say the very least. It works great.
Then something is either wrong with my phone or ROM. I can't get it to change to home only or roaming. I can easily check since i have evo deck.

If I am wrong, please correct me, but Verizon and Sprint are totally different bands. So Roam Control cannot roam on a network you dont have a radio for.
I roam on US Cellular in my area. Same band.

I'm more than likely posting this in the wrong section but it regards to an EVO so I apologize in advance....
Would it be possible to flash a Sprint EVO onto verizons network I want the EVO I looked into the thunderbolt and I think its nothing but garbage just my opinion, I had it for 10 days and it was so bad I went and returned it and went back to my incredible since I don't have 4g in North Dakota it would be an issue I got my MSL code from Verizon. I've seen the EVO on boost and pageplus unfortunately I only have IDEN coverage for boost no cdma or I would just go that route. So would this be possible??? I know there are sites claiming they have the files that will make it work but I'd rather not pay for something that might not work. I know what your thinking why not just switch to Sprint well we don't have coverage here. So my choices are Verizon, AT&T, & Nextel. Nextel is out of the question for the fact I believe its still completely IDEN which means not smartphones except for a blackberry and there is no way I will switch to a blackberry I had a hard time switching from winmo 6.5 to android.

Ugh... That's what I came across in my six hours of searching, but didn't they pass a law in 2006 that made it legal to switch carriers and flash it, since its your device you paid for it you should be able to do with it as you please within reason of course, also would it make a difference if the esn/meid is clean?
I mentioned pageplus in my op its a prepaid company owned by (Verizon) the evil V as I call it lol I know they got it boost which is as we all know is a prepaid company of Sprint which is seeming more and more like the best of the "big 4" soon to be the "big 3"

It is legal to do so, but the carrier has to approve the device and one big thing that won't be approved is the Sprint logo on the front of the device. Also I could be wrong, but for basic network coverage not counting Wimax since Verizon doesn't use Wimax, I believe Sprint and Verizon use different frequencies but I could be wrong.
There was a time when Sprint announced that they will activate any Verizon phone on their network. I can't remember if Verizon sued them, or if Sprint backed out. It was a very huge deal.

that's for their "4G", not the CDMA 1x/EvDO spectrum
Ah, that's true, I totally blanked on the fact that he doesn't have 4g coverage anyway and that issue isn't on the table
Thanks for all the input guys, maybe I can find a friend of mine that happens to have an EVO they would be willing to let me borrow to try this out on, and update prl and everything else and see if I can get to VZW ota programming prompt and if I can get that far, I should be close to in the clear see if I goes through completely or somehow rewrite the esn/meid's which probably isn't legal but I'm sure can be done lol, and browsing around early this morning I found out I can get page plus coverage haha but I refuse to give up my unlimited data, I know there is a way to flash it to them though.. but thank you again for all the input

Yeah but that's data roaming, little different.
It's possible just a few things you need:
1) Verizon has to approve it for their network
2) You would need your number AND your MIN as well as your cellular email address: it would be something like your10digit [email protected] verizon has for .com
3)Your MSL so you can program the phone for verizon (if you're rooted, MSL Reader from the Market will get that for you)
4)Verizon PRL
My evo is programed for cricket. AND the Evo can be programmed for boost. I went with cricket because there is no grey area there. Just program my phone for cricket, call them up and have them add my Evo's ESN.
Cricket was more than willing to give me the information I needed (MIN is the only thing I needed from them) and I got someone (who i guess works for cricket, one of those cricket forums) to add my ESN to my account. (you don't even have to change the radios, just change the PRL)
I look at it like this, Verizon takes a loss on every phone sold. Well every postpaid carrier does. So I would think they would jump at the chance for you to save them some money while spending money with them in the process.
How would I get them to accept the esn and accept the EVO for their service? I'm on a prepaid account now so I would be paying retail anyway...

Why are there separate PRLs? I've heard that those of us with the business one are supposed to be still on 3g when roaming instead of 1x. Is that only in certain locations? I have the corporate discount with the business PRL but I've never roamed using 3g, only 1x.

It was only 3G roaming in some states. A test basically. Don't worry about it, Sprint didn't like the test and is rolling people back.

well that's just stoopid...
probably cost sprint too much $$ LOL
I notice when I use a Verizon PRL I can download 3G speeds at my place at about 600Kbps. When I use a Sprint PRL and roam it is always around 100Kbps and the ping is very high, usually around 1000ms.
Sprint coverage at my house is terrible, to the point where I can barely send text messages. Verizon works great though, I even get 3G working here at reasonable speeds.
Now the problem with the Verizon PRL is that I can't get back on the Sprint network and I am always roaming no matter what. At work Sprint service is fine. I have roam control which is awesome but it would be nice to roam and have good data rates too.
yes there is
(dont try and flash the zip you have to write the PRL with QPST)
That's the one I'm running now. Maybe it is just connecting to a different tower than with the Verizon PRL.
Oh, wait... I'm using 01115 for a PRL. I will give that one a go. Thanks
yea that gave me 3g speeds (didnt run a speed test but it was fast) but my wireless signal kept dropping....
other prls give me 1x and I get about 6-15kbytes/sec download xD
yeah on roam control ping with verizon is ~1000
im in the same situation.
If i do the QPST thing, how easy will it be to revert back to my sprint prl? Because like you, i would only need it while im in my house.
Step RIGHT out the door, BOOM 6 bars. Its like my house is lead or something lolol
