Hi guys I'm a girl that doesn't know to much about new phones. I'm receiving my nexus s on Tuesday. I'm wondering is it a good trade to atrix? My cousin he wants to trade it. My nexus will be brand new. So should i do it or no?
Are you a nerd and want to customize?
I loved my n1 but their very different so I can't speak on the nexus s

You'll be able to do little nerdy stuff on the atrix, so if rooting and having some fancy home screens considered enough then go for the atrix.
For me having 1 gb of memory + qHD res screen is a deal maker/breaker
Also, a doubt that the atrix's bootloader is gonna be locked forever anyway...

Do you require a wireless hotspot without having to hack? Do you want the newest android updates before anybody else? That would be the Nexus S.

Are you really a girl? If a man asked this type of question, he would be ridiculed, but I suppose a girl wouldn't be, seeing as the majority of men here spend more time looking at their cell phone than the tits of the women sitting next to them on public transit.

Girl or man, we now know there is at least one ass here!
Go for the Atrix you'll love it I'm sure. You said you'd like to root and have a little fun with it, you can hook up the Atrix to a nice sized flat screen tv via hdmi and turn it into a computer. The Nexus S is also kinda outdated tech already. The newest thing is the dual core and 1GB of ram that's more powerful than my netbook lol.
thats just my 2 cents

Agreed!
I like to tweak, and I have been more than happy with what I have been able to do on my 1st droid phone with the help of the XDA community so far.
I connected my phone to my flat screen in the living room last night to show the the Webtop and the family couldn't believe what they saw.
Get an Atrix, and in 5 years when nobody carries laptops anymore, and it's all done with cell phones, you can say you had the 1st one!
I have an atrix right now and was thinking of switching to the nexus s, don't want to lose my 3.5 g though

Both the phones have their own stand point.
Atrix on one hand does the deal breaking job with its Dual Core Processor/qHD Screen, but, it has MotoBlur and no Gingerbread in sight yet.
Nexus S on the other hand is Google's own, it has got all the Goodies except the Dual Core Processor/qHD Screen, but has Gingerbread on it already, has a SuperAMOLED Contour Display etc...
Holding two phones in your hands and comparing them side by side will do the trick. Go with what you like.
So far I love my Atrix. Haven't used NS yet, no comments about the performance, but if anyone wants to try different roms, NS is the one. There are a lots of Atrix users not liking the phone because of MotoBlur, which seems ok to me.
Personal Opinion : I like the way the bootloader is locked, so that you will have consistency on your phone, you don't have to back up your phone, messages, notes taken etc every now and then just because you are trying thousands of different ROMs available every weekend.
The Nexus S is clearly faster despite having inferior hardware, scrolling through homescreens and the app drawer is much faster on the nexus S. However, the atrix has the edge when you're actually opening those apps, albeit a small edge. The nexus S will receive more updates than the atrix and it's also already on a new version of the android OS.
However, i love my atrix. The fingerprint scanner (when it works) is pretty darn sweet and a great feature to have. I don't think dual core is even utilized yet, but i hope when it is the atrix will be even better than it already is. Oh, and the nexus S doesn't support 4G (?source). While the atrix doesn't have 4G yet, it should be coming out very soon.

HAHAHAHAH man i love this forum
I switched to a nexus s, I get the same quadrant scores if not higher than the atrix. The phone feels great works amazing and the roms only make it better. There is no lag and the camera kicks the crap out of the atrix. Battery life is phemominal and much better than I had on the atrix, plus it's much more vibrant with the samoled vs pentile.
I would get a nexus because at least for the moment it works better than the atrix.
Not trying to be a jerk, but as someone who has had both devices I can say nexus is much better.

I agree with you but I guess you are happy right now with NS because of the possibility to be able to flash any ROM anytime you want because of the Devs support. I wouldn't compare them both right now, as Atrix is not upgraded to Gingerbread yet. If the NS is still kicking Atrix's butt even after the upgrade, I am all in for this beast by Google.
I still love the stock Android experience, but Atrix's performance is not that bad. It does the job, it performs well. To me, except the VOIP voice support issue, everything else is much better than my N1 and iPhone 4. Battery life is way better than both, higher res screen is great, plus a Dual Core processor is a deal breaker... again, all of this is a personal preference.

For me, I actually prefer the stealthy look of the Atrix. I hate shiny plastic and I hate flashy devices. They just become status symbols that have nothing to do with actual functionality. What matters to me is what happens when I press the power button. This, of course, is just my opinion.
The only feature of the Sprint device that I find interesting is the 8mp Camera. Other than that, nothing that makes me envious. I think the Atrix is the perfect size and weight. I have no need for a bigger device. I am not saying I would not buy the Sprint version because of that, just that it is a slight negative in my mind.
To each their own.
More interstingly, did anyone notice the USB and HDMI ports are in a different location? This means you would not be able to use it with existing docks.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts. I've always found it strange, in retrospect, that the Atrix is the only high end Motorola phone without an 8mp camera. But, I dont use the camera much so I dont really care that much. I prefer the Atrix look, but then again I'm kind of a minimalist. I want my phones to look as generic as possible.

im looking at my Atrix right now and the whole is shiny plastic lol. tbh i think it looks more cheap than the galaxy line. which is sad. yeah and they dont get the laptop dock! i cant afford it anyways lmao. but i do take alot of pictures which is why its dumb for them to put 8mp on the bionix or whatever, and this phone, even the new droid.
The specs look nice.. if it really is coming with an unlock bootloader.. even better.. I would miss my fingerprint reader.. haha... but I've been looking to get a good global phone.. kinda makes you think this is what the Atrix should have been when it was release...
Oh well, by the time my contract is up, this will not look as appealing.. but right now, it does look nice..
Anyone know if the infuse has an unlocked bootloader? Will the AT&T Attain be unlocked when it's released? I just want to know so I can decide on what to get once I sell my atrix.
Really......they get an unlocked bootloader....
The only thing I envy from this phone is the unlocked bootloader (if the rumours are true). Other than that, the battery on the atrix is slightly bigger. We also have the fingerprint scanner, which I am thoroughly enjoying. The 8 mp camera doesn't make a lick of difference to me because if I'm going to take a picture that I want to print out or frame, I'm going to take it with a real camera. I can't imagine the difference between our 5 mp camera and the 8 mp camera on the Photon will be very noticeable for regular everyday point and shoot shots. Sure the Photon comes with 2.3, but we'll be getting it soon enough, and to that end, I'm sure we'll be getting an unlocked bootloader, or at the very least a way around it in the near future as well. All in all, the Atrix still has the specs to compete with the latest and greatest phones, and that's saying something considering the age we live in and the fact the phone is now almost 6 months old!
I am debating getting the Samsung Within (Galaxy S2) when it's released and would like to hear your thoughts on it. I have not been a big fan of the Samsung devices in the past but I am intrigued by this one.

I agree with you on that one. I think its more about being sure you get the right phone to have for the next 22 months. It's like getting married, you don't wanna make the wrong choice cause its gonna be a while. My biggest concern is data reception. My friend got a nexus s and couldn't connect to 4g when I had 2 bars of 4g standing right next to him. Also, all of the samoled screens I've seen have a color tint to them so I don't know if samoled+ will be any different.
I'm wondering about the tinted screen myself. I hadn't heard about the 4g issue. I always research my future phones but sometimes you just don't know about it till you get it.

Well I've had one samsung phone, and it was beast, it was the 'smart phone' of its day before smart phones as we know rule the playground. Never had a bad experience, and this one has the hardware to match the software; as I recall [could be wrong] samsung wasn't going to lock the bootloader so it should be rooted, potentialy quickly, and as that phone has the hardware, I believe it'll have more support than the notorious Epic. Also have a samsung 32" LED TV, amazing quality, and I think this phone is worth picking up, and if you don't like it, return it within the 30 days.

As much as I have always loved htc, the s2 just seems to be a better phone. In the side by side videos I've seen it just seems smoother than the 3d. It definitely has the hardware, and from what I've heard the new touchwiz is supposed to be pretty good. I'm waiting go see if the whole subpixel thing actually improves the quality up to qhd like they claim. I'm also curious if sprint is going to add a hardware keyboard like they did with the galaxy s/epic. A no gimmick beast of a phone is definitely something I can deal with until the next upgrade comes up. Worst case scenario, if I go past the 30 days and decide I want the 3d, I'll just order a 3d when the wife isn't lookin and tell her I bought it cheap off a coworker.
i'm waiting. played with a SGS2 at CTIA in Florida.. should be awesomsauce & samsung gave out a handful of these devices to CyanogenMod devs so we should see some awesome stuff!!!

It's all about how you close the deal. My wife has a crap hero (no offense to hero owners, hers just sucks). So I told her I would go through asurion for a new evo since mine has some water damage, then I would let her have it after I upgrade to the 3d or galaxy s2. That way she could have a brand new evo until her upgrade comes in November. Not only is she bugging me to upgrade, but she thinks I'm a genius. Marriage, at times, is all about negotiation. As far as the hardware keyboard, I miss my touch pro 2 keyboard. I don't mind the thickness of the phone, and it made texting a bit easier sometimes. Also, remapping keys for shortcuts was a bonus too.

I watched an atrix vs sensation youtube video. It was almost funny how badly the atrix while still running froyo spanked the sensation.
I think it's kind of funny when you look at what people want for an att band sensation. Some people want more than what an sgs2 costs while the atrix prices keep falling even with the unlocked bl and custom roms flowing in. The atrix screen although smaller, looked much better also.
I guess some people in the market place think others are stupid enough to pay $700 for a sensation that costs $549 new.
I'll keep my atrix and wait for the atrix 2 to come out with it's bigger screen.
Please don't flame me for this, it's just something I wanted to get off of my chest.
That and I think it's kind of funny that a phone (atrix) took so much crap for it's first few months spanks a phone that while being locked down gets paused by the majority.
My atrix
Oh yeah, man, the Atrix I got is awesome.
I lurk in the Marketplace and I see everyone's desire for a Sensation or a GS2 and I just don't see it either.

Completely agree with your opinion of the Photon, its pretty much the exact same phone but with a better camera and the worst phone design I've seen. I normally don't care about appearances, but if I were on sprint I wouldn't buy it on looks alone.
With regards to the Atrix's reception, I think that has to do with how terrible the webtop implementation is. Its slow, feels incomplete and definitely not worth the hefty asking price. While that's not the fault of the phone itself, the webtop functionality is a large part of why it got so much attention in the first place.
What (I think) we have is a very vocal minority that's tarnishing its reputation. Most who've tried the phone know how great it is.

also the only thing devices such as the sensation had over the ATRIX was the unlocked bootloader, and now that advantage is gone. we now have a championship contender in this sexy device.
Sent from my int'l unlocked ATRIX. ROM infinitely variable.
I like my Atrix. Although the bootloader unlocked now, being locked for so long hurt, as few devs have come to the phone to do anything even after the unlock (compare to the evo 3d. Look at all those ROMs....ALREADY!) The build quality is also poor
And I agree, the webtop kinda sent the wrong message, especially because it kinda failed...
However, out of all phones I, as am AT&T user could have, I would only want the Atrix as of now

Three things they could have done to make the webtop infinitely better and better received
- two finger or side scrolling on touchpad
- bigger keyboard!?!?!? Who designed the ergonomics on that thing
- PRICE PRICE PRICE - costs more than netbook for half a netbook?!?!
And on the phone side
- released w/ gingerbread. Speed diff is like night and day IMO.
Had they pushed it out the door a month later with gingerbread preloaded it would have been a much better contender. Thank god for unlocked BL

Can we agree that, at least in the US (I honestly don't know how carriers in other nations handled it), the requirement to have a tethering plan even for occasional use on the mobile network was the final nail in the coffin of Atrix's reputation? Great phone but they practically have to give it away, owing mostly to Webtop being so overhyped, overpriced, and underwhelming...

In some ways I could say the same things about my upgrade from the Milestone to the Atrix. Some days I still don't know I the upgrade is "truly" justified since I had high expectations and with Froyo it's not that much of an upgrade. On top of that, GB appears to have issues. (And its not limited to this device)
That's why my lower spec SGS still appeals to me since its more "different".
In the end I don't know how iPhone users can use the same phone year in and year out?...

Expectations were set too high IMO, and Motoblur really bogged this phone down. Too much excitement was probably set around the first dual-core/1GB mem device.
For many this was their first Motoblur phone and some now understand why MB is a PITA.
By all means I'm not trying to TC, and people will tear apart the Photon too.
The Photon is only getting love because it has that new car smell that's all.
The Nexus Prime is the next "it phone" but there will be many that will criticize that too, and the cycle will start over. Rinse, wash, repeat...

Yep, I got bored with the sgs2 very fast. It reminded me of a slightly faster bigger captivate. I think touchwiz no matter how much they tweak it is boring. I do like sense but am very glad I didn't trade my atrix and transformer for a sensation.
I'm very happy with my atrix.
How are you and your family doing, I hope you guys are well and that your dad is doing good.
Best wishes to you all
Don

My family is doing good. My dad is okay but the last time we heard from him he and the rest of his unit were stuck in Leipzig, Germany. The left wing broke on the plane they were in...thankfully they were close to the ground. Lol. That was 3 days ago. He should be calling us sometime soon. Thanks for asking.

How did the Atrix go from most loved and anticipated phone of CES 2011 to the most hated dual core? I see more praise for the Photon which (imo) is SO much the optometry of a big bowl o' ugly (plus it's fat). Sigh....

+100000!!!!
Same with the Bionic (even before we knew they switched out the processors and doubled the RAM) everyones going crazy with anticipation for it when it was essentially the same phone as the Atrix with half the RAM. Now I guess it's the same (not sure where OMAP stacks against Tegra?).

I think in the case of the Bionic, the issue was it kept getting delayed. The people who wanted to buy it eventually settled on something else because they wanted/needed a new phone.
Atrix>Sensation

Most who've tried the phone know how great it is.

well one huge diff with photon is that it has HDMI mirroring AND webtop...
I broke my vibrant and am selling the refurbished I got thru insurance, this phone is the one I decided on. Hardwarebad feature wise it seems like a winner as an upgrade. I'm not buying till next month, and for that reason I ask what the consensus is from the community that already has it. Should I get it, or is there a phone you'd rather have bought now that you have it?
I'm extremely curious.. I see posts about bricked i9100s even tho it has no boot loader.. I never came close to bricking my last phone(100s of flashes) so I'm curious if the lack of bootloader is really a perk or not.. should I keep my refurbished phone and wait? Do you think the American variation will bring the price down?
I guess I am asking for any advice or thoughts in general. Thanks in advance!

You make no sense man all android phones have bootloaders , phone would not function without it. The only different is if bootloader is locked or unlock , encrypted or not.
As for people bricking , there will always be idiots who brick or break things.
i'm confused
are you on tmobile? SGS2 isn't compatible with tmo's 3g/4g service

I meant unlocked bootloader, and I wouldn't value the opinion of people on youtube as much as I would people here, people that likely have tried to do much more with their phones, or can share their frustrations of what they can't do. Either way, I asked here for a reason.

Here is a link to the sgs2 for tmobile.. not sure what bands it covers, if it can do att also, but I am likely leaving tmobile because last week they did away with all plans that aren't contracted, and if I want to change my current plan I am sharing with someone, I have to take a 2 year contract. What I am considering doing is getting a DataConnect 5GB HotSpot with ATT, and using something like GrooveIP for voice calling. This is up in the air, but I don't see myself staying with tmo.
There are tons of threads of people praising or *****ing about their sgs2, I imagine no one would have a problem rephrasing their thoughts for this thread.
That hercules sgs2 is only for tmo, kinda like the vibrant, so i doubt it'll work on att.
Anyhoo, as for people *****ing about the sgs2... the only reasonable thing i can think of that i dislike about it is that its missing an led for notifications, but thats why we have bln.
Compared to my captivate its much faster, bigger and brighter screen, thinner, better camera, much faster than my captivate, gps works much better, external speaker is louder than my captivate, high quality front facing camera, better battery life, did i mention its faster than my captivate? That about sums it up.
Got my sgs2 in a bootloop, but for our our after flashing in download mode.

It's better than Vibrant in everything except for headphone audio. Expect it to be best android phone to date.

This is the kind of feedback I was hoping for.. then there are little things like FM radio I understand are working(versus all the us sgs models which didn't).. Really wish I could get this phone now instead of having to wait a month. Not all that horrible since it means I can wait and see what the us models sell for, and see if it brings the price down on the sgs2..
A GPS that works;P
