I watched an atrix vs sensation youtube video. It was almost funny how badly the atrix while still running froyo spanked the sensation.
I think it's kind of funny when you look at what people want for an att band sensation. Some people want more than what an sgs2 costs while the atrix prices keep falling even with the unlocked bl and custom roms flowing in. The atrix screen although smaller, looked much better also.
I guess some people in the market place think others are stupid enough to pay $700 for a sensation that costs $549 new.
I'll keep my atrix and wait for the atrix 2 to come out with it's bigger screen.
Please don't flame me for this, it's just something I wanted to get off of my chest.
That and I think it's kind of funny that a phone (atrix) took so much crap for it's first few months spanks a phone that while being locked down gets paused by the majority.
My atrix
Oh yeah, man, the Atrix I got is awesome.
I lurk in the Marketplace and I see everyone's desire for a Sensation or a GS2 and I just don't see it either.
I thought you were crazy when you sold your GS2 and kept the Atrix but now I understand why.

Yep, I got bored with the sgs2 very fast. It reminded me of a slightly faster bigger captivate. I think touchwiz no matter how much they tweak it is boring. I do like sense but am very glad I didn't trade my atrix and transformer for a sensation.
I'm very happy with my atrix.
How are you and your family doing, I hope you guys are well and that your dad is doing good.

People want a sensation for sense 3.0. People want a SGSII because of the SAMOLED screen and 8MP camera.

How did the Atrix go from most loved and anticipated phone of CES 2011 to the most hated dual core? I see more praise for the Photon which (imo) is SO much the optometry of a big bowl o' ugly (plus it's fat). Sigh....

Completely agree with your opinion of the Photon, its pretty much the exact same phone but with a better camera and the worst phone design I've seen. I normally don't care about appearances, but if I were on sprint I wouldn't buy it on looks alone.
With regards to the Atrix's reception, I think that has to do with how terrible the webtop implementation is. Its slow, feels incomplete and definitely not worth the hefty asking price. While that's not the fault of the phone itself, the webtop functionality is a large part of why it got so much attention in the first place.
What (I think) we have is a very vocal minority that's tarnishing its reputation. Most who've tried the phone know how great it is.

I lol'ed.
also the only thing devices such as the sensation had over the ATRIX was the unlocked bootloader, and now that advantage is gone. we now have a championship contender in this sexy device.
Sent from my int'l unlocked ATRIX. ROM infinitely variable.
I like my Atrix. Although the bootloader unlocked now, being locked for so long hurt, as few devs have come to the phone to do anything even after the unlock (compare to the evo 3d. Look at all those ROMs....ALREADY!) The build quality is also poor
And I agree, the webtop kinda sent the wrong message, especially because it kinda failed...
However, out of all phones I, as am AT&T user could have, I would only want the Atrix as of now

Three things they could have done to make the webtop infinitely better and better received
- two finger or side scrolling on touchpad
- bigger keyboard!?!?!? Who designed the ergonomics on that thing
- PRICE PRICE PRICE - costs more than netbook for half a netbook?!?!
And on the phone side
- released w/ gingerbread. Speed diff is like night and day IMO.
Had they pushed it out the door a month later with gingerbread preloaded it would have been a much better contender. Thank god for unlocked BL
*Thinks* The Nexus Prime running icecream sandwich will end this debate.... it will be mine

Can we agree that, at least in the US (I honestly don't know how carriers in other nations handled it), the requirement to have a tethering plan even for occasional use on the mobile network was the final nail in the coffin of Atrix's reputation? Great phone but they practically have to give it away, owing mostly to Webtop being so overhyped, overpriced, and underwhelming...

In some ways I could say the same things about my upgrade from the Milestone to the Atrix. Some days I still don't know I the upgrade is "truly" justified since I had high expectations and with Froyo it's not that much of an upgrade. On top of that, GB appears to have issues. (And its not limited to this device)
That's why my lower spec SGS still appeals to me since its more "different".
In the end I don't know how iPhone users can use the same phone year in and year out?...

Expectations were set too high IMO, and Motoblur really bogged this phone down. Too much excitement was probably set around the first dual-core/1GB mem device.
For many this was their first Motoblur phone and some now understand why MB is a PITA.
By all means I'm not trying to TC, and people will tear apart the Photon too.
The Photon is only getting love because it has that new car smell that's all.
The Nexus Prime is the next "it phone" but there will be many that will criticize that too, and the cycle will start over. Rinse, wash, repeat...

My family is doing good. My dad is okay but the last time we heard from him he and the rest of his unit were stuck in Leipzig, Germany. Same with the Bionic (even before we knew they switched out the processors and doubled the RAM) everyones going crazy with anticipation for it when it was essentially the same phone as the Atrix with half the RAM. Now I guess it's the same (not sure where OMAP stacks against Tegra?).

I think in the case of the Bionic, the issue was it kept getting delayed. The people who wanted to buy it eventually settled on something else because they wanted/needed a new phone.

you had to go!!!! After having this phone for 2 weeks, it just didn't quite cut it even though on paper it was remarkable. It had a dual core processor, higher resolution, webtop capabilities on and on...
In the end I guess my old eyes couldn't handle the smaller icons due to higher resolution, I had issues with my MP3 player playing only 3/4 of song then stopping and then i wasn't liking the dual core heating up like a toaster oven. THe icons were dull colors too....Motorola likes these dull browns for icons where as HTC likes to use color and make it vivid.
I also like to play around with my phone too much so LOCKED BOOTLOADER was not cool. Did you hear me Motorola, LOCKED BOOTLOADER for a lot of people dont like that.....
So in the end I got the Inspire 4G with Sense. You really cant go wrong with HTC, although I understand the postive and negatives to each phone, mine just happen to fit more in line with HTC.
So for you hopefuls that Motorola will unlock it, wish you the best of luck or that they will do many updates, wish you the best of luck!!!
Not trying to start a huge debate, but if you are on the fence about these two phones, just spend 10 mins. with the Inspire and most people will probably like it over the Motorola.
its funny i had the inspire for 2 weeks....got rid of it a few days ago
got the Atrix...and THANK GOD I DID
4.3 inches at the **** resolution its at was a disaster, hurt my hands. Too heavy
not very fast, barely played videos (htc codecs suck)
Like you said, it comes down to opinion
but switching from inspire 4g to atrix was the best thing I ever did
PS: The battery on that thing gave me EPIC NIGHTMARES.

You actually can go wrong with HTC, its when they put a 1200 mah battery in a 1.8 ghz capable phone then you get to watch your battery lose a percent every 4 minutes of use. I had one it was totally BS battery life and was totally unacceptable. Then people say "just don't OC it" so then you have a 4.3 inch captivate with less ui lag, no usable internal memory storage, and GPS that works.

I love HTC phones. But they have to be Android. I have the evo 4G and I couldn't be happier. It's fast, vibrant, has all the bells and whistles. I literally have a mini computer at the palm of my hands.
I've had it for about 3 weeks now and yeah the battery goes quick but thats because I can't put it down! I had the Hero before switching to evo and I love everything about this phone.
I didn't understand why it was called the supersonic until I used it. Is rather have my HTC evo over any other phone on the market. Puts the iPhone to shame with its 8.0mp camera, and its secondary front-mounted camera makes video chatting a synch, the kickstand is awesome for watching YouTube or movies and also playing games. Oh and I almost forgot it has an HDMI out. Used it and the picture on my tv is remarkable.
Keep up the good work HTC and Google....I love you
Oh and one other thing it has a 4G mobile hotspot that can provide WiFi for up to 8 devices at once. If thats not remarkable I don't know what is

I've never been a fan of Motorola. I have had very bad experiences with mot. Phones. I have had nothing but good experiences with HTC w/google. I also used to have the blackberry curve 8310 and thought it was the best thing since buttered toast. But that quickly changed when I switched to sprint.
Sprint has better service than ATT & Verizon combined IMO. But thats just how I feel. They have given me good prices and great devices with no hassle and I'm not the type to ruin a good thing. Bottom line is "to each his own" but I will recommend HTC with Android until either HTC starts slacking or Google bites the dust (which they wont).
I'm sure you all have valid points about your phone's but I'm pro HTC and definitly pro Google.

I've had many htc phones and have always had a good experience. I had a hard time waiting for the atrix when I saw the inspire for $100. At that price point it is a steal for the features you get. In the end i'm glad I waited though. The Atrix is rediculously good!!! Super fast and great battery life (I get about 16 hours a charge... 16!!!) It is hands down the best phone i've ever used. Head shoulders and more above the rest, a GIANT among a sea of average phones.

I was impressed by the Inspire back when it came out on Sprint as the Evo... what, eight months ago? I made the mistake of buying old hardware that just came out once, the Hero. Never again.
Coming from the Captivate, the only things I miss are how vibrant the games looked on SAMOLED and flashing the new hot stuff roms.
Do not miss accidently bricking the thing and having to use a USB jig to fix it though...
I am from a another continent; a faraway country - Singapore to be exact. Smartphones is one of my hobbies. I have had several HTC phones - Windows Mobile, and now the Desire on Android which is about 9 months old, and high time for a replacement. I have been reading and eyeing the Atrix since Jan 2011 - all excited about it's superior tech specs, and particularly its innovative HDMI/TV docking unit. I have been preparing myself to be an early adopter and to purchase a unit from EBay at a premium price. I have been so impressed with what I read that I even invested in some MMI stocks. But, all these excitement, hype and high expectations of owning a Atrix (will be my first Moto) came to a complete stop last weekend - when I learnt that a famed developer (he did the unroot for the Atrix) abandoned his work because of the locked bootloader! Motorola may have their own reasons to do this, but it is unacceptable to me. So, unless I see a Moto announcement to unlock the bootloader, I am off looking for another dual core smartphone - either the LG 2X or wait for HTC to release one. Obviously I will also sell off my MMI stocks - even if I have to incur a loss, given its recent rapid decline. Sorry folks, if I have been somewhat off-topic. Just wanted to voice my opinion.

It really is perplexing -the decision to lock the bootloader. I mean, are they afraid someone would engineer a program that steals fingerprints...etc?

You'll be able to do little nerdy stuff on the atrix, so if rooting and having some fancy home screens considered enough then go for the atrix.
For me having 1 gb of memory + qHD res screen is a deal maker/breaker
Also, a doubt that the atrix's bootloader is gonna be locked forever anyway...

Go for the Atrix you'll love it I'm sure. You said you'd like to root and have a little fun with it, you can hook up the Atrix to a nice sized flat screen tv via hdmi and turn it into a computer. The Nexus S is also kinda outdated tech already. The newest thing is the dual core and 1GB of ram that's more powerful than my netbook lol.

Agreed!
I like to tweak, and I have been more than happy with what I have been able to do on my 1st droid phone with the help of the XDA community so far.
I connected my phone to my flat screen in the living room last night to show the the Webtop and the family couldn't believe what they saw.
Get an Atrix, and in 5 years when nobody carries laptops anymore, and it's all done with cell phones, you can say you had the 1st one!

Both the phones have their own stand point.
Atrix on one hand does the deal breaking job with its Dual Core Processor/qHD Screen, but, it has MotoBlur and no Gingerbread in sight yet.
Nexus S on the other hand is Google's own, it has got all the Goodies except the Dual Core Processor/qHD Screen, but has Gingerbread on it already, has a SuperAMOLED Contour Display etc...
Holding two phones in your hands and comparing them side by side will do the trick. Go with what you like.
So far I love my Atrix. Haven't used NS yet, no comments about the performance, but if anyone wants to try different roms, NS is the one. There are a lots of Atrix users not liking the phone because of MotoBlur, which seems ok to me.
Personal Opinion : I like the way the bootloader is locked, so that you will have consistency on your phone, you don't have to back up your phone, messages, notes taken etc every now and then just because you are trying thousands of different ROMs available every weekend.
The Nexus S is clearly faster despite having inferior hardware, scrolling through homescreens and the app drawer is much faster on the nexus S. However, the atrix has the edge when you're actually opening those apps, albeit a small edge. The nexus S will receive more updates than the atrix and it's also already on a new version of the android OS.
However, i love my atrix. The fingerprint scanner (when it works) is pretty darn sweet and a great feature to have. I don't think dual core is even utilized yet, but i hope when it is the atrix will be even better than it already is. Oh, and the nexus S doesn't support 4G (?source). While the atrix doesn't have 4G yet, it should be coming out very soon.

I switched to a nexus s, I get the same quadrant scores if not higher than the atrix. The phone feels great works amazing and the roms only make it better. There is no lag and the camera kicks the crap out of the atrix. Battery life is phemominal and much better than I had on the atrix, plus it's much more vibrant with the samoled vs pentile.
I would get a nexus because at least for the moment it works better than the atrix.
Not trying to be a jerk, but as someone who has had both devices I can say nexus is much better.

I agree with you but I guess you are happy right now with NS because of the possibility to be able to flash any ROM anytime you want because of the Devs support. I wouldn't compare them both right now, as Atrix is not upgraded to Gingerbread yet. If the NS is still kicking Atrix's butt even after the upgrade, I am all in for this beast by Google.
I still love the stock Android experience, but Atrix's performance is not that bad. It does the job, it performs well. To me, except the VOIP voice support issue, everything else is much better than my N1 and iPhone 4. Battery life is way better than both, higher res screen is great, plus a Dual Core processor is a deal breaker... again, all of this is a personal preference.
Anyone else slightly losing faith in their atrix?
I just put gingerbread on my cappy and I'm so impressed by the speed. I know I'm comparing froyo to gingerbread but for a dual core Id expect a bit betterr performance. The cappy handles live wallpapers much better than the atrix.
What's keeping me here is the fact that moto seems to actually care, the phone has gotten two updates already, and while second one has lower my phone down, I imagine that will be fixed.
Do you think the atrix is going to "fly" once gingerbread comes out for it? That's what I'm hoping for, or even if moto unlocked the bl
It will fly with gingerbread!
yea my buddy has an incredible and gingerbread made that phone buttery smooth.
this phone is still new.. I'll give it at least six months before I think about getting rid of it

This, I believe, refers to what the OP may be describing.
Smartphones are newer and better all the time. People on here buy every new phone! The Atrix new luster and excitement has worn off, and people are ready to move on to the next big thing(seems to be Galaxy S 2).
Thats the nature of the tech industry, and more specifically the smartphone industry.
I don't think I'd mind waiting 6 months, but also part of me says that 6 months is a long time to get the phone to a smooth point.
It will fly if we get the 2.4 gingerbread optimized for dual cores.
Hey,
I had my Evo for about a year before having to make the decision to switch to AT&T. Here in the USVI, AT&T is just plain out faster, calls are clearer, there are less issues with the service and so on and so forth. I would have kept my Evo until the Evo 3D came out or something.
The Atrix is a beast of a phone and the service is great! I'm satisfied with what I have and from this point on, it can only get better.
Have faith, man.
I never got all those comments about how unresponsive the Atrix is.. mine is super responsive. Granted I come from a Touch HD (WinMo) phone which was friggin' slow as molasses by today's standards so yeah.. but hey the iPhone 4 is supposed to be a snappyness reference yet I constantly see my friends iPhones lag doing some basic thing at some point, and I find my Atrix to be way up there, so i'm not sure about all the complaining.. I don't get it.

Things that I would like to change:
-Different Themed Notifications bar with GingerBread Update
-HSPA+
I like the phone, I dont have any other problems with it. I can live with a locked bootloader, to me its not that big of a deal anymore because we wont get it unlocked....
I lost faith in my phone months ago. Wish I held out for an actually good phone.

The thing that sucks about this phone is mostly just the locked bootloader... sure gingerbread may come, and we finally got the hspa+, but what I really want is to be able to flash custom roms. Until then we're basically crippled and are stuck with clunky and featureless motoblur which barely taps into this things potential.

Lol.. No matter how amazing a device is, there will always be those who criticize it.
The hardware specs and technological innovations implemented on this phone are unlike any phone ever produced. For you to imply that this is not "actually a good phone" makes you appear very ignorant. I don't mean that in a disrespectful way.
I think the main issue here is usability for the average non-tech savvy user.. When they don't understand why the phone isn't doing what they want it to do, they assume it can't or it just sucks.. There are some users such as myself who understand the progression of new hardware & the intricacies involved with getting software to interface correctly with it. We expect to run into issues & focus on solutions rather than complaining.
If you want an environment where everything just works without much input needed from you, consider steve jobs walled garden aka iOS
Otherwise, dig in, try to understand how android & the phone works.. It's only gonna get better.

Most roms are just gingerbread with features that don't work. Flashing roms is fun until you needs to actually use your phone. Custom roms and kernals have so many bugs.

No one expects to run into issues with a 600 dollar piece of technology. They should, and rightfully so, expect it to work. THe G2x seems to have almost identical specs, and that phone performs much better under all situations. Android isn't about forcing the user to do unnecessary steps to make his phone work on par with any other on the market, its about giving you the opportunity to allow you to do more than whats on the the market. I can say right now, for the past 3 android phones i've boughten, i've never had to do anything special to make them work. Power on. Power off. Done. What makes the atrix different?
I know that sounds like a hateful post, but it's not. I just don't think it's fair for people to say a 600 dollar piece of electronic isn't gonna work right out of the box. I do still love my atrix, the form is great and the fingerprint scanner is very nice. But my concerns are legitimate and aren't solvable by steve jobs.
I'm fed up. Totally disappointed by the phone. The webtop mode remindes me of the carphone idea. Seemed good at the time buy useless shortly after. Hopefuly the galaxy S 2 will be announced tomorrow for att. If not on ordering from UK. This is the best android phone out right now for AT&T. Almost makes me wish I didn't jump ship for the iPhone 4 in June from T-Mobile (g2x & nexus s)

I think AT&T is announcing the samsung infuse tomorrow, not the SGSII, but who knows. I agree, webtop was cool for that first time you show your friends, but i've never used it since. While i have a HUGE grudge against samsung from the captivate debacle, i might try the SGSII but that probably won't hit until july like the cappy.
I switched to an inspire, I love the phone and everything about it, no lag with the latest cm. I'm switching back to the atrix for the ffc and battery life, battery life is abysmal on the inspire.

weird, i thought the E3D had 1080p support.
is it just me or are manufacturers getting stingy with the accessories they include in the box? i remember when i opened up my nexus one box for the first time, it had a charger, separate usb/micro usb data cable, AND a neoprene sleeve pouch.
this E3D doesnt even include headphones?

It looks like it is a cheap version of the other HTC phones with a gimmick screen. I was seriously tempted by it, but I am hearing other news that it is a decent phone that feels cheap compared to the predecessor...Dont get me wrong, i hate the plastic on the Nexus S, but, for a "flagship" phone, plastic optics sound crappy.
Read that review closer. They say they barely used it, then go on to say they used the **** out of the internet, and camera. and only got 14 hours.
I wouldn't speak to build quality until you can hold one, to engadget anything short of the iphone is a giant piece of crap to them.

Don't be pissed because they're bashing on HTC.
We as Android users make fun of Apple fan boys. But all in honesty, there are some Android fanboys too who stick to HTC, Samsung, and so on. I'm a victim of this, I prefer Samsung devices.
Surprising, I'll go check them out. I typically don't read engadget reviews unless someone posts one.

8/10: http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/27/htc-sensation-review/
For a handset with such a broad range of standout features and specs, the Galaxy S II is remarkably easy to summarize. It's the best Android smartphone yet, but more importantly, it might well be the best smartphone, period. Of course, a 4.3-inch screen size won't suit everyone, no matter how stupendously thin the device that carries it may be, and we also can't say for sure that the Galaxy S II would justify a long-term iOS user foresaking his investment into one ecosystem and making the leap to another. Nonetheless, if you're asking us what smartphone to buy today, unconstrained by such externalities, the Galaxy S II would be the clear choice. Sometimes it's just as simple as that.

That doesn't seem too biased whatsoever. Yes, they had a harsh review on the HTC EVO 3D but honestly, I'll have to agree with them. The "3D" phone doesn't attract me and the specs don't either.

Fanbois always complain, but to be honest, Apple does a lot right with their stuff and, generally, the praise is warranted. For the majority of people Android is "different" and not as comfortable as the dead simple Apple solution...
I am more amazed that the EVO3D was so mediocre in so many areas. People ***** about the Nexus S lacking 720p video, single core, etc...but the phone "just works" without needing all the gimmicks.
i know most benchmarks are meaningless, but i am sure the Dual Core push is due to ****ty coding on Sense/TW/Blur...My Nexus S crushes my wife's Epic and they are virtually the same core hardware.

The Dual core push is "bad" because they're running on software that is not yet optimized for Dual Core processors. The only things optimized for dual cores are Honeycomb and the upcoming Ice Cream Sandwich. But even then, Quadrant isn't optimized for Dual Cores. So like you said, Benchmarks mean nothing.
Also, they're running on Android 2.2 for the most part! LoL

People seem critical about it, but I think its pretty nice. I only hope they come out with a white version after a while. But the specs are cool. Which apart from the heftier battery and SD card slot, its basically the same as the One X. So personally, I'm planning on getting one.

Why do you assume we'll have to wait that long? Evo 4G was rooted before it even launched, I was flashing new ROMs 2 months later (based on my post history).
I agree that Beats is lame, though. I see students wearing their Beats headphones and telling me how epic they are, I have them listen to my 8-year-old Sony DJ cans (which aren't even that amazing to begin with, compared to the Sennheiser set I had before them) and they totally outperform. Plus, they cost less than half what the Beats label costs these kids (or, realistically, their parents).
I think the Evo One is a great phone, it was obviously announced yesterday because yesterday was the day launch-day Evo 4G buyers were eligible for full upgrade. But that's fine with me, I've been looking for anything that could make me feel as good about upgrading as the Evo did in 2010. Wasn't too stoked about the SGS3 or the Galaxy Nexus, I was hoping HTC would bring something big to the table. They've been faltering as of late, hopefully this will represent a comeback.
Now that's the phone that may keep me around with Sprint after my current contract expires. I just hope that they would have the LTE network in my area soon. WiMax??? I got to use it only twice when I visited Chicago ever since I got the EVO.
1.2mp front cam. i'll pass. what a let down. what a joke. pathetic phone.
not worth the $200 upgrade.

I leap to presume as the EVO4g Design has been out for a long while and doesn't even have a listing on XDA Forums. And I have yet to hear of ROM support for it.
It looks like a promising device. I wish they'd have stuck with the ONE brand name, but that's just a minor quibble. Unless something else hits in the latter part of this year that strikes my interest, this might be my next device (coming from the OG EVO).
Personally I was bit disappointed yesterday, after hearing that sprint would be possibly getting a one-x. I was hoping that they would have kept the one-x the way it was with the two extras that they added. I guess I just wanted something fresh in the aesthetics department as well as specs but o well. I also think that if they had stayed with the look of the one-x that the possibility of more sales could have come from just the looks of a new phone. Customers that dont really care about internals are going to see this 4gLTE one might not be pleased.
Overall, it looks like a decent phone. I'm personally not happy with the sealed battery/case. So I will wait to see if the Samsung Galaxy 3S also has a sealed battery/case before making a decision which phone will replace my Evo OG. Of course, I won't look at either until there is broad LTE coverage in Atlanta. So probably 2014 at this rate.
Defiantly not buying it.

You can do it on an Evo 4G by simultaneously pressing the power, volume up and volume down buttons. So I would assume the new Evo would also have a way to do it. Worse case, you have to wait for your battery to drain.
I'm pretty excited about it! And fyi the front cam is 1.3 mp and its capable of 720p video. I'm not really big on the design, but the features look to be enough of an upgrade to my og evo to warrant paying $200 for the upgrade.
