do you know a way or app that will allow me bluetooth in airplane mode?
It is ****ty thing 'cause when I take off and I am permitted to use any device like my mobile I can not use BT in airplane mode, I have BT headset. If I turn off airplane mode then mobile will scan for cellular network and drain my battery.
This is possible in WinMobile. I can not believe that nobody has thought about it.
I have found one app that is not working on DHD and one workaround.

Open your dialer, dial *#*#4636#*#* (4636 = info, btw) this will open at test menu. Navigate to "phone info", scroll down to "turn radio off" and presto, you have gps, wifi and bluetooth, but no data, sms, or voice. I would be careful messing with other settings in this menu, by the way.
Is there any tweak or app?

My girlfriend would like to borrow my MDA for TomTom use.
I would like to turn off all phone functions, but can't find the option.
Flight mode also disables Bluetooth, so thats no use. Diverting all call's does not stop SMS messages.

Remove the SIM
Tap the sigal icon and in the ballon popup there should be a flight mode option.
When I put my phone into flight mode I can still use wifi and bluetooth - just use the comm manager to turn each function back on as required. The phone becomes a PDA in flight mode with everything else bar the phone still being functional. If you still can't get bluetooth back on then you're doing something wrong.
Just swicth off the phone in the Comm Manager. You can leave the other (BT or Wifi) on if you need them.
Flight mode will turn off everything (wifi, BT, and phone).

At uni there are a couple of auditories which have speakers that are not magnetically shileded (lol, idiots). So we are required to turn off our cells/turn on airplane mode, or the lectures become a pain because of noise.
But Airplane mode in Android disables Wifi as well, and won't let me re-enable it. Is there any way to do what I want?
There was an app in the market that does exactly this. It is called (simply) Airplane Mode Wi-Fi Tool, it is free.
Ehm, something I noticed when switching to AWS: the gsm noise goes away. Which means that there isn't any more interference with microphones (that's what needs to be shielded, not speakers). Result of the higher frequency.
Dialer: *#*#4636#*#*, top item in the menu, scroll to the bottom, set preferred network type: WCDMA ONLY. Then you should be able to keep your radio on without causing audible interference -- just remember to turn the ringer off.
Does anyone know how to turn off the 3G radio without turning off the GPS?
I know the airplane mode trick will turn off 3G but that also turns off GPS, which some Google apps need.
I hope Google gives us dedicated radio toggles in 3.1.

That is the correct way to do it.
Airplane mode really should be used when you want ALL of the wireless turned off, including wifi. It's strange that it lets you turn it back on while in airplane mode. I guess it makes sense for those planes that now have wifi.

Also how i use my phone overseas without having to worry about a big ass bill.
Are you sure GPS is off in Airplane Mode? I run in A-M too when I'm on WiFi, and I've definately seen the "GPS on" indicator come up when doing something that needs my location.
But to be sure, I downloaded "GPS Test" from the market, turned on Airplane Mode after getting it, and GPS test was able to see some 6 satellites (inside- we have some really nice hardware!).
I don't think GPS is off when in A-M.

Well, it actually does kill-switch everything when enabled- which is what it's supposed to do, but it's a good thing that it allows selective re-enabling of BT and WiFi.
Besides, GPS is a reciever (unlike BT/WiFi which also Xmit), but while I'm aware of the heterodyne issue, that leakage is FAR smaller, and the only way to fix that is to turn off the device altogether.
I'm using this as an ipod replacement and I finally figured out how to turn off the cell radio, I think.
open dial pad
dial *#*#4636#*#* (If Testing menu doesn’t come up then click "Call" and it will come up)
go to Phone information
Scroll down
turn off radio
I assumed wrongly before that the cell radio was automatically turned off since I didn't have a sim card AND since the option to turn off 3G data was disabled in the Wireless settings section. But out of curiosity, I clicked on battery info and it said that my cell radio was on this whole time! See attachment.
Turning on Airplane does turn off the cell, but it also turned off the Wifi and GPS. You can turn Wifi back on after Airplane mode, but it doesn't work properly, try using XMBC remote with Airplane mode and Wifi on, it doesn't work.
So, I guess I'll see tomorrow if this really works but so far it looks promising!

I tried the keypad code you listed and nothing happens. I really need a way to turn off the phone and keep bluetooth on while at work in order to listen to my music with bluetooth headphones. I was able to use the code successfully before the Froyo update.
On mine, I simply switch on airplane mode then switch on wifi. Voila! Phone off, wifi on.
Nevermind, did not see reply that some apps don't work with this workaround...

Just got the new nexus 4 and I'm trying to set it up like my galaxy nexus. I have tmobile's $30 / month plan and use sipdroid at home to make wifi calls so as not to go into my 100 minutes.
It seems like auto AP does not work on the nexus 4. In addition, when I manually toggle airplane mode it turns off all radios and I cannt reactivate wifi (even manually in settings). Any fix for this?

You do know the point of airplane mode, right? It disables EVERYTHING.
If you want ONLY wifi, disable data in your phone settings. In 2.3.6 (N4 today!) it's wireless and network settings, mobile networks, uncheck "data enabled"
You could also get a toggle app like widgetsoid and disable background data sync, or settings, accounts and sync settings, uncheck background data and auto-sync.

Right but on my galaxy nexus I could enable airplane mode turning off everything, then turn on wifi. All I'm looking to do is disable the cell connection whenever I'm connected to wifi.
This happens on my Nexus 4 as well. I had my Nexus S setup this way as well. I use CSipSimple + PBX account, etc. Anyways, Airplane mode constantly disables WiFi, no matter what. And yes the app AutoAP doesn't work either.
I have found this app, Airplane Mode Wi-Fi Tool, funny that it was made for Android versions prior to 2.0.
The actual app doesn't seem to work (to enable/disable airplane mode and WiFi), but within the app lies a nifty feature in the Preferences menu under Extras:
Keep Wi-fi On
Wi-fi on Airplane Mode
Check both of those and you should be able to turn Airplane mode on and then keep WiFi on.

You can try to see if those apps work.
AutoAir for automatically toggling airplane mode when connected to wifi (doesn't check if there's an actual connection to the Internet though. don't know if your app does)
Plane Mode Tweaker for allowing wifi and bt to be usable in airplane mode. It can also make it so wifi/bt don't get disabled upon entering airplane mode if they were enabled previously.
Y5 for automatically toggling wifi on when in range and off when away. Since it determines location by logging the cell towers you're connected to, the phone should not be in airplane mode initially. Walk around the house and anywhere you have wifi since you may be in range of multiple cell towers. It's best to leave the radio on for a few days so it can learn all the towers. After that, it works very well.
With that battery of apps, everything becomes pretty seamless. I have it set to always use Google Voice. This way, I don't have any additional prompts when using the native dialer, and the other party sees my GV#. When I go home, Y5 turns wifi on, AutoAir sees wifi and enables airplane mode, and Plane Mode Tweaker prevents wifi from being taken down again. The native dialer will automatically trigger Sipdroid, and again the recipient sees my GV#. Leave home and lose wifi and airplane mode is disabled, then wifi gets disabled. Seamless. Only problem is calls won't handoff between sipdroid and cell obviously.
I'm kind of assuming the apps may be calling the same functions/methods/whathaveyou and it may not work either.
