All links pulled due to XDA Request after an XDA member complained I was only out for profits to a moderator on a few products I have. Due to the fact I link to a product or two and a few other things in many videos, I was asked to pull any content relating to this.
I will still be offering all this great material at my website. Just go to google and search for MobileTechVideos.
I really think these how-to videos should be in Q&A (or general) instead of development.

I'd probably agree. I put that line in their for a MOD to move them if applicable. Now that I decided to dive into this, if a MOD moves this, might you be able to join my ROM flashing video with this one?
Thanks.
My company uses Cisco VPN along with RSA SecurID.
I've tried other "solutions" in the past with no success.
Will this process work in my situation?
I have access to all the settings from a .pcf configuration file.
When I had an iPhone, VPN worked perfectly (not that I'd go back to an iPhone just for that ).
The VPN Connections applications allows for a secure token so I think it may work. The SecureID just gives you a token correct? And then you input it for access?
If you watch near the end of video 2 I show you that application and there is clearly a field for token input. You should not need the .pcf file for the phone. I would think you would just input the current token each time.
I tried it and the connection fails every time.
Went through the process twice and followed directions to the letter.
I also tried the check box "Password + Token Digits" and that did not work either.
I'm using a 2.2 ROM currently but I think I'll put my phone back to stock and try again with 2.1.
Your video is excellent, by the way, and extremely easy to follow.
Thank you for compliments. Did you verify tun module was running using the lsmod command from a shell?

Glad it was able to help you! I know I would have loved this info 6 months ago as I was figuring it out. If you are looking for a good RDP app, then use RemoteRDP. I'm using the $20 enterprise edition and it's amazing. They have cheaper versions as well with a few less bells and whistles options.
Now I'm just trying to crack DNS issues with Android not resolving hostnames of machines when VPN'd or on a WIFI network.
I am getting a device or resource busy when I do insmod android22tun.ko
I am running auxura and I skipped the rooting process as I am obviously already rooted.
Any ideas anyone?
I suppose you could try modprobe instead of insmod just to see. It could also very well be ROM dependent and something with this particular tun.ko file could be incompatible. There are many different tun.ko files for different kernels.
connexion2005,
I just wanted to thank you for the awesome step-by-step tutourial on getting my phone connected to IPSec VPN. I too am a IT Admin and recently got my phone with the objective in mine to remotely manage infraustruture. Your instructions are to the point and didn't leave much to guessing.
BTW: at the end of the video you mention the gscript tool to run the tun.ko for reloading. Shouldn't you actually had said adroid21tun.ko? That's what works.

I mean the technical name of the vpn module on linux based equipment is tun.ko so that's what I went with. I understand that may be confusing now. Whatever the module is named is what needs to be loaded. So you could call it mobiletechvideosdotcom.ko and that's what you'd load...lol. Thanks for the compliments!
Your very welcome. I think i have watched all your videos and I have to say great job.

connexion2005,
It seems I have run into a problem. I have been able to connect to our ASA a few times already, but when I just tried today it fails. After investigating, my script to load the android21tun.ko fails with error "init_module 'android21tun.ko' failed (file exists). I even get the failure after reboot phone. Do you have any suggestions.
PS: Out of curiosity, you suggested RemoteRDP, have you tried PocketCloud? I like it so much I will pay the $14.99 for full version.
Thank you. This worked like a charm.

I have not used PocketCloud but RemoteRDP is absolutely phenomenal. Is this occuring even after a reboot? Perform an lsmod from a terminal and check to see if the tun module is running. I'm not sure why this would happen. May have to uninstall everything including the tun and re-perform the steps.
I did get it to work again. Strangely, it was after receiving a phone call that the module would load. Thanks again for your assistance.
Well that's good. I can't explain any bugs as my dev work only extends so far!
First of all, I would like to request a section on this tablet, funny how the Transformer even got one when is not released yet.
Second of all, I'm quite a noob on the subject matter. But to all the A500 owners out there, any idea how to get the tethering to work?
I have the Atrix 4G rooted, and for some reason my A500 can't pick up the signal. Any ideas? (I read something about the "infrastrusture" and "ad-hoc" things, but not sure about it)
Thanks
i think so!!!please have a section on this tablet
I'm having the same problem tethering my A500 to my T-Mob G1.
You're correct in saying that it's down to the difference between Ad-Hoc and Infrastructure Wireless Networking. Some phones tether using Ad-Hoc, some use Infrastructure. The Iconia A500 only supports Infrastructure. Hopefully it won't be too long before Paul O'Brien et al can root it and we can get a custom kernel with support for Ad-Hoc networks.
Also, +1 for Acer Iconia A500 Forum please!
colbur87 is working on it.. maybe you guys can follow the thread:

If you have root then you should be able to replace the wpa_supplicant file with the one from this thread like we did on the Xoom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033314
You can use Root explorer rather than ADB if you want.
First you want to turn off your wifi. I have used the ADB method a couple of times but I find it easier to use Root explorer. Save the file to your memory, Copy it using root explorer, navigate to the system/bin folder and click mount R/W then paste the file into the folder replacing the original (make sure to make a backup!) then long hold on the file and view permissions, check all the boxes in the first two columns and the first 2 in the last column. (chmod 775) You can then restart your wifi and enjoy ad-hoc networks (no reboot needed.)
I've done this a couple of times on my Xoom and it works great
Another vote for Iconia A500 forum !!
Tethering my inspire to my iconia here with no problems. I tested using a non-encrypted adhoc network.

Thanks, I've been looking into this method too.
But we are currently still waiting for the Acer Tab to be rooted. Hopefully will be soon.

Yes, a forum for us, please.
Got mine yesterday in anticipation the Asus launch would leave many (including myself) with out one. From the research I have done, Exchange is not supported natively in Honeycomb at all, coming in a future update. You can, however, use K-9 Mail which is working flawlessly for me and free in the market.

Let me start off by saying I am not a developer. And Im not too familiar with Linux either. Just goes to show that this isnt too difficult
To get ubuntu on the Atrix please go here first:
[MOD] Full Linux (Debian) inside WebTop! v0.2.6 [2011/07/07] [14.15 GMT+2:00] - xda-developers
Follow the steps. Must have CMW installed, rooted etc.
I was unsuccessful with webtop2sd. You might have good results with it, but for me it didnt.
Once you flash this cmw file, reboot you phone and enter into webtop (if you need the HDMI hack, you will find that on XDA). You will now see 3 new icons. Leafpad, Lxterminal, and a penguin. Click on the penguin, and you it will say found image. Click ok.
If your unfamiluar with linux, this will look french to you. Once it launches (the first time after reboot will take some time, be patient). Hit enter, enter again and scroll down to Shells, then hit enter on Bash. Now this is where the fun begins.
Enter synaptic. If that doesnt work you might need to install it. apt-get install synaptic. After thats opened search for gnome-panel, right click and select "mark for installation". Hit apply and go for a coffee. This will take a long time, and make sure your on wifi. This is a huge download.
Here is a list of working applications so far :
Epiphany web browser
Epiphany IM
Evolution Mail
Iceweasle
AbiWord
GNU image manipulation
All of the games
Im working on getting usb-to-ethernet dongle working.I can see it, just cant get access to it.
Almost all of the pre-installed applications with gnome work. EXCEPT sound. This is driving me nuts. I am unable to find a sound driver (gstreamer) that works. If anyone here figures it out let me know. And if anyone out there have programs that work let me know. I can always add it to the list. Im very green to Linux, and just playing around at this point. Im no developer, and most of your questions can be answered on XDA forums.
I have the same setup, and you can add openoffice.org and geany packages to the "functional" list. I use openoffice's writer every day and have found no missing functions. Geany is working, but does not build and compile, so it's basically a color-coded text editor (still useful for note-taking my language classes). I did NOT use synaptic to get these. I simply used the bash script (in the same manner you described for your synaptic install) to apt-get install openoffice.org and geany respectively. Nice thread,

My sound through the Webtop is functional, yes. I'm not sure if you were talking about gnome-specific apps (I wouldn't know, because I'm not using gnome panel), but anything through mobile view or iceweasel (not including flash) plays stereo through the Webtop. I didn't do anything special to get it working, it always just has. I hope you figure out your problem.

With epiphany did you encounter a problem where it uses xulrunner-1.9.2 instead of xulrunner-1.9 and fails to start the gecko engine? The epiphany version that is available through synaptic after fixing apt-get dependencies and sources uses xul1.9 once and works right then uses xul1.9.2 every time after that and fails. Epiphany lists both xul versions as deps so i, unsuccessfully, tried to lock xul1.9 and install a fake xul1.9.2. Any help would be awesome.
I did manage to make Webtop2SD work after I created a 4 GB partition on my ExtSD through Webtop2sd partitioning tool.
Here's what I got working (installed through Synaptic):
XFCE4 (full suite)
OpenOffice
GIMP
EPDFViewer
Fillezilla FTP client
VLC Media Player (marginal results)
Ristretto Image viewer
ABE's Amazing Adventure (game with full working sound)
I was hoping to have some sort of ScummVM, MAME and SNES emulator to run, but unfortunately they don't even after a successfull install.
Cheers!

I know it's a bit late for commenting lol. And probably my post may be off-topic. But was your issue the <no sound coming from HDTV via HDMI> one?
I also had this issue in webtop going on for like 3 months (like flashing and reflashing webtop to no end), until I stumbled upon this Motorola forum:
h**p://supportforums.motorola.com/message/330591#330591
(had to mod link because I didn't reach the minimum amounts of posts to allow links -_-)
Basically, if you switch display resolution to anything other than 1280x720, sound will not redirect to HDTV. And as for me, after switching to 1280x720, I had to reboot my Atrix in order to finally have sound . No need to find for drivers.
My sound would work within the Webtop apps from Motorola. But if I wanted to use a Linux MP3 player, watch a video etc there would be no sound. Kept getting a gstreamer error.

Try to reflash the webtop and then the mod again. There is a thread in the developers area I believe called webtop mod v1 or something like that. When I get the chance I will try to dig it up. Driving in a snowstorm at the moment slightly hinders my searchability haha. Good ol Ontario I tell ya
quick question: are these persistent? can I make a desktop icon for these or do I have to apt-get them everytime?
seems counter intuitive to not be able to "hard" install the applications

You dont have to apt-get everytime. The installed applications are on either the phones hard drive or the SD card. Only thing you will have to do is start the gnome panel every session, which is easy enough.

Yeah after tinkering with them for enough time I figured that out!
only question is how do I figure out where they are located on my phone? I can't find a DEBIAN folder anywhere on my device (sd or sd-ext) my webtopmod folder is on my internal storage btw
thanks for the response!
If you use webtopmod's debian chroot (the white shell) they'll be in the linuxdisk file, as it's actualy a filesystem in itself. You won't be able to 'directly' access them. I recommend switching to webtop2SD. I didnt' want to, but everything is native that way and most things run better anyways, I installed xfce4 and got rid of that stupid awn dock at the bottom and put in a little bar. Now it feels like linux!
My apps so far:
OpenOffice 3
XChat
rdesktop (doesn't work, keymap doesn't work)
gimp (not used yet)
Any other useful ones people know of? I don't need an email client... the phone's gmail app is sufficient enough, and if I need more support I'll just use gmail. Kind of wish I could get an updated firefox, or a tun/tap module so i could use hamachi.

I installed chromium, and it's running smoother than firefox ever did. Haven't really had a reason to install anything else, but i think i'm gonna get fxce4 because the current dock at the bottom annoys me

^yeah after using it exclusively for the past day or so it's quite capable but I can also see the limitations of debian through chroot. I'd ideally like to get rid of the webtop all together and just have kde or gnome (i'm not picky, xcfe4 would work for me too)
but I'm assuming if I do webtop2sd I can have ubuntu with gnome installed no problem?
I went through the process of putting all of my gnuSTEP icons on the webtop and it's very much like my current gnuSTEP machine (supremely capable btw when using a debian core) I haven't run into any real problems using the chroot method, save for not being able to put shortcuts on the AWN bar and the occasional, but when I get my lapdock in the mail and start exclusively using this when I'm out and about I'll look into doing webtop2sd. I need to get a bigger sd card too, I have a 16 but I'd rather have a 32 external only for webtop and the 10 or so internal for android I don't listen to music on my android (I own a zune) so 10 should be plenty to just have apps and android

Did you use the jaunty hack to get chromium working?
I successfully installed chromium but every page loads for a second and then crashes. I didn't really look into the chromium hack (I don't think I use jaunty for anything and synaptic/apt-get can get all the repositories I need) but it seemed intensive especially to get flash.
I've found that while firefox has FANTASTIC flash support (like, really good and speedy, no chops) I just end up using konqueror for regular internet tasks. I can't seem to get it to install flash (I don't know how to install .deb packages) but it's speedy for other things and makes an excellent file manager
If you could get chromium without 2.3.5 i'd get it... but 2.3.5 offers what appear to be no benefits at all, correct?
Just kinda scared to have to rebuild from a bricked phone.
Trolling from my ATRIX 4G's XDA premium app, still on the gold medal winner of worst customer satisfaction for the second year in a row! Congrats!
I upgraded to 2.3.5 it has the new firefox, it runs fine from what I've seen
I'm trying to install synaptic by "apt-get install synaptic", but it shows several "Failed to fetch http://ftp.debian.org/debian/......" messages.
How can I fix this?
Hello,
I would like to replace my trusty SGS2 with the G2.
But I need the ability to mount CIFS shares, because I use GoneMad music player with an external WiFi harddisk.
Is there a kernel available with CIFS support?
Or, if not, is there anywhere a working cifs.ko module which can be used with insmod?
Thanks in advance!
No one willing to answer? Is there ANY chance to get CIFS mount working on the phone? Otherwise I can't buy it (sigh!) and have to buy a (inferior) N5...
Gesendet von meinem GT-I9100 mit Tapatalk
I don't know if there's a kernel that comes with it built in, but I did a quick search on the Play store and there's an app called CifsManager that seems to do just that. You do need to be root though but I guess that won't be a problem for somebody looking to flash a new kernel.
No, sorry. Please only answers from people who have a clue, thanks.
One of two things which are not replaceable by an app are needed (on any Android device): Either a kernel with CIFS support built in, or a cifs.ko kernel module built specifically for the device.
This is why I'm asking here.
The LG G2 comes with that built in. It is called Wireless Storage (so, yes it only works over a local wifi connection).
It is under Share and Connect in the Settings.
Sorry guys, but you either don't really read what I write or you aren't able to understand!
Is it so difficult to comprehend??
I want to mount a network folder into the filesystem of the phone, not mount the SD card of the phone into the filesystem of a PC (that's what the wireless storage feature does).
Did this many times on other devices, I exactly know what I want and need and how it works. Only information (and nothing else) I want is whether there is a CIFS enabled kernel or a cifs.ko because - I repeat the umpteenth time - this is the only way to achieve it.
Thanks.

Dude, I think you need to chill a little. You seem to be getting worked up over nothing here when people are just trying to help you.
That being said, what you're describing here is exactly what the App I recommended claims it does (mounting remote CIFS shares on your device so you can access them from other apps) so you might want to give it a look.
No, man, you don't know anything about the app and how it works, but I do!
The app requires a CIFS enabled kernel or a working cifs.ko module, and it's just a more comfortable frontend to do the mounting and unmounting which otherwise would have to be done via shell commands.
And yes, I get a little worked up when only people who don't have a clue about the subject try to "help" by suggesting apps they don't have used or tried themselves. That's plain useless, sorry.

Since you are so apparently well-versed in exactly what you need and how you need it, why don't you compile it yourself instead of copping a superior attitude with people who just want to help you. If this is how you act here, I'd hate to work with you.
Since you're a senior member here, I would've expected a little more from you.
And, also apparently, the answer is no.

Yet not precious enough that you waste it on bickering with others?
No CIFS module enabled kernels that I've seen (and for network folders I use ES File Explorer anyway).

Why all the hate on OP he is asking for something and all of your guys were giving him the wrong answers.
HE wants to MOUNT remote file systems on his PHONE not MOUNT his PHONE remotely to his PC.
@ OP although not the answer you want, no there doesn't seem to be any CIFS (SAMBA/SMB) Kernels for the G2. And yes the CIFS app requires a CIF enabled kernel.

DO WORK YOUR SELF ASWELL AS MAKING OTHERS LOOK. ITS FINE TO ASK FOR HELP BUT DON'T ASK FOR HELP WITH A QUESTION WHICH YOU COULD FIND THE ANSWER TO BY LOOKING FOR LIKE 2-5MINS.
Additionaly ES File Explorer does do what OP wants but not system wide, only es file explorer will see it, mx player, play music, poweramp, facebook, dropbox etc WILL NOT!
Of course I had already done quite some work and again and again looked through XDA and other forums and all the kernel threads and googled and whatnot... I just asked because, although I already spent hours, I probably could have overlooked something or perhaps someone has a secret tip.
(I myself gave such a special tip to Xperia Tablet Z users by pointing out that although there is no native CIFS possibility on the device, a CIFS module from the Xperia Z phone can be used.)
He just wants to get to his windows shares from his phone? Numerous file managers do that. I personally use File Manager (and File Manager HD on the tablet).

but many do. ES File Explorer and others.
He doesn't just want to get windows shares from his phone using a file explorers access LAN feature. He wants to mount shares on his phone kind of like windows mount network folders. He needs a Kernel with cifs support. That is the only way. It will allow him to create a folder on his phone that is connected to his network drive. You can also use it with a VPN to always have access to your home network.
I haven't seen any kernals with cifs support but I would ask one of the kernel developers nicely if they would look into adding that feature. Wootever has a kernel. Rohan mentioned he might work on a kernel.

Just to clarify i have compiled a ps3 controller module for my set top android box (sumvision cyclone x2) so i could most likely create a cifs module for the LG-G2 the problem however is i do not have the time.

Thanks for the offer, However i have no intentions on making money on/from XDA-Developers.
Hi guys,
I am facing a lot of difficulty in trying to mount a samba share on the shield TV (16gb model).
It's freshly rooted with busybox, supersu, se linux mode and patched cifs manager.
No matter how I try to mount it, via terminal or via the patched CIFSManager, I always get an error saying "cannot access a needed shared library".
su --mount-master -c busybox mount -o username=shaf,password=android,rw,noperm,iocharset=utf8 -t cifs //192.168.1.1/android /data/media/0/android
The network folder is perfectly accessible through ES File explorer & I've even tried formatting the network drive as ext4.
I have checked in proc/ and the cifs files are there but I'm not sure if I need to load a cifs.ko kernel module, I assumed it was loaded.
I would be very grateful if someone could help me out here and point me in the right direction.

Have shield as the server (3.0 usb edit: with a connected usb 3.0 harddrive)
edit: ive not found a suitable server app yet
I always assumed ciffs manager/mount manager worked only on jellybean and below......i assume the patched cifs app changes this.
In my search for alternatives, this ones the closest ive seen thats most recent and promissing, but have not managed to get it working, you seem like you might understand it better then i

hey guys. im not much on networking. trying to figure it all out myself, but i found this app awhile back called servers ultimate pro.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.icecoldapps.serversultimatepro
they do have a 7 day trial to test things out but through this app i was able to create a smb/cifs server with windows 10 being able to map it as a network drive. At least on windows 10, i had to google and eventually found a few registry tweaks to make windows actually see it.
Currently my issue now is speed transfer isnt all that fast. its usable for my needs, but i average about 5-10MBps during transfer with an external usb 3.0 HDD plugged into the shield tv, transferring files over the network between my windows 10 machine. That is an issue im currently working on fixing, but i was at least able to create a working server with this app. The authors have a forum on xda as well but its looking more and more that it might become abandoned (servers ultimate pro) as the author(s) havent been responding to forum questions or even emails.
either way, just thought id let you guys know.

Ive actually tried that one amongst others, was one of the best tested at the time, even had, if i recall correctly, tasker support which is a must, but my shield for all intense and purposes, will be free of the google eco system, hence why i wont/cant have apps that require license check.......i dont like the artificial dependancy on other apps/services such as google services
On the lookout, hopefully, for an open source alternative with good tasker support.

Hey thanks buddy,
I think I had a look at that before but ignored it temporarily as I wanted to fix mounting samba shares first thereafter focus on making a script so it mounts automatically on boot but I don't see a problem with skipping straight to using the script.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to check/test the firetv script until next weekend, what problem do you have when trying to use the script?
I'm tempted to install the full android version with a tv style home launcher and check if I can connect to samba shares as this is driving me nuts lol.
Check out the thread 'nVidia Shield Android TV - Post your home screen' and see andrewthecoder's post, need to ask him if he's able to mount remote samba shares.
BTW guys, I think there's some confusion, my intention is to use the shield tv as a client, not to host a samba server lol.

Yeah sorry, i did actually realise you were talking client side, i went slightly offtopic with server side talk
Honestly, i didnt really put much effort into it, just quickly tried to see if it worked first, second, third try before giving up, waiting on more info on the xda thread, or maybe even an app to do this more simply, or an alternative working method.........im playing the, keep my ears to the ground, waiting game
Plus, ive not found any confirmation on which android samba servers are confirmed working for this kind of mount, so i have the worry, that the script may work, but fail on a non standard samba server.........again, waiting on confirmation on what works and hopefully a guide.........looking it up every now and again

Haha no worries man, yes I'll try messing with that coming this Friday evening, did you use script manager, SManager?
Ah damn I did not even know there's different types of samba servers! ?
Lool I'm the complete opposite, too impatient to wait, that's why I'm really considering installing the full android version. It would be such a delight to have the dreamcast and gamecube roms running of the NAS drive as well as 4K files in the future.

I used SManager
Sorry, what i meant was, that there is more then one samba server app for android.........all at various levels of development
Yep, i cant wait till i can unify network storage on android myself........one of the reasons i bought the shield.......assuming a solution ever decides to be polite........and show up

For mine I found that the utf8 bit was throwing it off. I removed that and added sec=ntlm and that worked for me. The only downside is apps can read from it but can't seem to write to it. Give it a go and see if that helps though.

Ahhhhh, now were getting somewhere
Thanks for that luvley bit of insight, and the thread maker for starting the subject in the first place........hopefully, a write solution will show up and find its way to this "network storage mounting" thread..........
Theres another potential, i stress, potential avenue to mount local filesystems beyond jellybean...sshfs
Easysshfs
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.nsu.bobrofon.easysshfs&hl=en
https://bitbucket.org/bobrofon/easysshfs
Ive attempted to test this, sshelper server on the shield, easysshfs on the tablet with no success.......im thinking theres kernel modules involved( fuse.ko) , mind you im no expert. (Easysshfs logs makes mention of "fuse.sshfs is not in proc/mounts")
If modules are indeed involved then this is not an ideal solution (unless kernel moduling becomes universally compatible somehow), as i'd prefer any future purchases of stock android to have the ability natively, minimum, instead of waiting and hoping someone can release a solution
Sshelper
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.arachnoid.sshelper&hl=en
http://arachnoid.com/android/SSHelper/
Edit
Well holy moly, i got it working, i just randomly decided to put admin as username instead of leaving it blank and hey presto....mounted.........quickly tested a file manager without network support, opensource "amaze", to browse and play a video on my tab from a usb stick on my shield........excellent
So for those interested, a simple two app install plus configuring (username, pass, mount to, mount from) and you have network mounting.....on lollipop.........excellent

Kodi has samba ability as client. Used for video and audio files. Find it in google store free
This worked for me:

Have you gotten this to work? I had it working on a previous OpenELEC box and an Xbian box, but I can't get it working on KODI on the Shield.

Yes I am sharing a "server of sorts" (Desktop in den with video and audio files stored) with multiple setups .
Shield with Kodi
Laptop with Kodi
Laptop with VLC
Samsung Tablets with Kodi or VLC
Sharing permissions need to be set to allow "Everyone" read/write access on server
I use a "MOVIE" folder, a "TV SHOW" folder, and a "MUSIC" folder then add source under files in KODI,select scraper for tv,movie,or music and it will also add covers and details to list. Kodi will detect files and add a MOVIE ,TV SHOWS, and MUSIC tab on home screen after scanning. I also set "scan on startup" " in systems settings so I only need to reboot to update libraries.
https://kodi.tv/ use wiki if you get lost
Hope this helps

It appears you are sharing your media from a server to the Shield. I am trying to use my Shield with Kodi as the server. I have an external drive attached by USB to the Shield and need to connect two other computers to it. I did this previously with OpenELEC and Xbian, but I can't get them to recognize the Shield/Kodi on the network like I'm used to. Any assistance would be great. Thanks!
I should probably mention that I am not rooted and would like to not root my Shield so I can get further updates rolled out by NVidia. That's kind of the problem.
I'm trying to run a Samba server on the NVidia Shield without root that has read/write access to external storage (external hard drive).
So far, I've been able to get FTP servers running on it, but nothing allows access to my external storage. I'd much prefer SMB to FTP though.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
AFAIK it is not possible to run a Samba server on Android without root since SMB uses port numbers < 1024.
Rather than attach my external drive directly to the NVidia Shield, I attached it to the router and have all my computers (Linux and Windows boxes) and the Shield connect to the shared drive and all folders. That works great!
