Honeycomb - switch desktops - Acer Iconia A500

Hi,
is it possible to switch the desktops in Honeycomb 3.0, as it is possible in Froyo / Gingerbread, by putting the finger a few seconds on it, and then moving it ?
Thanks
Nico

You means flinging left and right to more screens? If so, yes.

Hi
Thanks for the answer, but it's not my question;
If I have a desktop A and another desktop B on the right of A, what I would like to do is to invert A and B, to invert desktops whithout having to do it manually (move apps icons one by one on the other desktop)
Thanks
Nico

Then try asking more clearly. Still not sure 100% what you mean. If you mean dragging widgets and icons from screen to screen, then yes its still there. If you mean moving ALL the widgets and icons from one screen to another in a single operation, then Froyo and GB can't do that either. Or rather, I've never seen a device ROM which does.

hum ok... I'll try to be more clear:
I've got an HTC Desire HD (running Sense). On it, they are a few desktops available, where I can put all my icons/widgets, ... And whenever I want, I'm able to reorganize the desktops, so taking A to be on right of C instead of near B, and so on...
Let's take some exemple :
desktop A - desktop B - desktop C - desktop D - desktop E
=> on the smartphone I can switch desktop C and desktop D.
like that :
desktop A - desktop B - desktop D - desktop C - desktop E
and so, I do not have to move manually all icons that are on desktop C to desktop D, and same thing in the other side (destop D icons moving to desktop C);
That's what I would like to do on Honeycomb.
Hoping it is more clear...
Thanks
Nico

Ah! I see what you mean now, you want to reorganize the order of your separate homescreens.
I think that's a Sense feature and isn't incorporated in Android, any version, as standard.

yes, that's it !!!
ok... so I'll post another topics, in order to see what alternative launcher I could use to be able to do that
Thanks
Nico

Been a while since I used it, but I think Launcher Pro has that feature. Not sure if it's any good on Honeycomb, though.

alternative launcher
A home launcher does this. But don't know if works for honeycomb.most should have this feature

LauncherPro does work, but (in my opinion) it looks pretty awful on a big screen.

REQUEST: Finger Friendly Today Plugin

there seem to be much of Touch/Finger Friendly apps looming around..
how about a Finger Friendly application launcher? i know, Most, now uses HTC HOME as their all in all, time, profile and app launcher plugin.. but the HTC HOME launcher only permits 7 shortcuts and the icons are ugly, and shortcut name is not supported..
and for those who don't want their homescreen/todayscreen be eaten up by a 180 pixel high plugin (HTC HOME), maybe a better touch friendly launcher is a good approach..
how about a 40 pixel height single-row app launcher.. it can't go higher than that.. what makes it different? it can stack lots of shortcuts even it is on a single row..
HOW IT SHOULD LOOK?
initially it shows only 5 icons.. but if you swipe your finger left or right.. it moves or slides the icons and reveals other icons/shortcuts in the horizontal list (originally hidden off screen).. when you reach the end of the list, you are then looped back to the first icon.. much of a carousel.. maybe icons can be changed using TGA or PNG, and customizable shortcut names is applicable..
the concept saves a hell lot of Today Screen space (so faster to redraw) and is fun to use, also, it would be the first Today plugin to utilize the Touch drivers/concept..
how about it guys? if only i have programming prowess, i'll be the one to create this..
Good thought, but one thing i hate about the HTC Home is it is bog memory hooging application.
I want one with less memory consuming.
Very nice concept hope someone will take up this project.
Such thing exists already. Just google for RLTODAY. It's not only a clock, but also does a good job as launcher. Can be easily customized for any requirements.
I use clauncher, works great, icons the size you choose, tabs etc. but sometimes it doesn't appear after a sr. with wm6. Ilauncher is similar, but I think not free.
I second the vote for RLToday, highly vertasile, and very easy to use.
http://www.pdagold.com/software/detail.asp?s=1519
Hmm, I'll have to look into what famewolf posted, but I'm still a fan of either HTC Home or RLToday. I know a while ago there was a post on how to exactly duplicate the iPhone look with RlToday and some themes, but I believe it's been taked down due to copy right reasons by Apple.
yes i know and already used RLTODAY CLAUNCH and ILAUNCH.. the only drawback is, as i said earlier, is the todayscreen usage..
RLTODAY and ILAUNCH eats up today screen estate.. as you add additional icons, additional space is required and more columns are made.. imagine, if you want 16 shortcuts at 32-40pixels each, that means you will have 4 columns having 4-5 shortcuts each.. eating up almost 200pixels of today screen space..
separating the shortcuts in TABS, once again eats up space, for TABS eat about 16-24 pixels of estate and they are uber ugly.. added the fact that they are NOT FINGER FRIENDLY..
a feature i want to utilize in my concept is the DRAG AND SWIPE method.. USE TOUCH CONCEPT ON TODAY SCREEN!
USE ONLY 1 COLUMN OF SHORTCUTS and HORIZONTALLY SWIPE YOUR WAY TO THE LIST.. no need of itching the tabs..
and NO! (@famewolf) i think we don't need another AYEPHONE clone.. it's time we stick to what we have and THINK OF NEW CONCEPTS on how we utilize OUR own interface.. another FULLSCREEN AYEPHONE like launcher is another RAM killer and a launcher takes more time to load than the application you want launched is crazy..
The launcher I posted is the "whoneedsaniphone.com" launcher which uses flashlite 2.1(adobe flash). It leaves the today screen alone. It's been mentioned in multiple threads on this board.
@famewolf.. i appcreciate the reply and the link.. thanks..
yes i know WNAIP.. i've participated on the beta testing of that app (tried it more than once).. and that's my point.. it is a LAUNCHER application.. it is not a today screen plugin..
using a LAUNCHER APPLICATION means, you need to START the LAUNCHER first, before launching your desired application.. it takes more time and RAM.. and it runs on FLASH.. and rendered in full screen makes it more slower to redraw.. and as far as i can see.. it IS an IPHONE springboard (the original iphone launcher interface) clone.. and i can say for most that it is starting to become SICKENING..
we're killing the ESSENCE of our TODAY plugin.. why not just improve what we have instead..

I believe I gave you what you asked for. As far as a "today screen launcher" various solutions already exist..everything from the laucher built into batterystatus to claunch, the favorites in pbar..etc. I personally like my today screen just like it is showing my appointments and status of various things.
As far as the flash interface...all new PROVIDER rom's are going to start coming with adobe flashlite installed by default..the trend in future will be to use more flash based apps so you might as well get used to it at some point. Personally the "launcher" I like most is Microsoft voice command..hit a button and say "run xprogram" and it does.
Check out V2R. Think this is one company and product most of us here are not familiar
Tried it before. Pretty good. But I'm using iLauncher, so didn't want to add this in.
Can't you do a scrolling row of apps with SPB PocketPlus?
What you are looking for is UltimateLaunch:

You can use Vito winterface or panoramic launchpad (all are not free).

+1 for UltimateLaunch
It's fast, smooth, light and highly customizable.
Take a look at iphonetoday
iphonetoday is a good one. light and easy to use and is being supported in XDA forum. Highly recommended.

Which "shell" is the fastest? (SPB, ultimatelaunch,...)

Hi,
I own a Nike and wanna change its "GUI". There are great skins available (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=421944) but I want the Nike to be also as fast as possible, so which one is the fastest? Thanks a lot
PointUI home, is very fast - just uses quite alot of resources.
>> See more details about PointUI Home, click here
SPB mobile shell is also fast, but I find ulitmateluanch and throttle launcher the slowest.
UL is still my favorite. It's customizable and uses the least amount of resources.
I think it's homescreen++
Tried a bunch of them, and it's the lightest, fastest and most stable IMHO !
Homescreen++ isn't a shell, it's a today plugin
I tried them all, and each time I come back to Ultimate Launcher. It seems that it's the only program my Trinity can handle well.

well ultimatelaunch is a today plugin too dude !
I guess you're talking about fullscreen app, but that's not the question
Somehow I prefer the today plugin style because then I don't have to worry about red button taking me out of the launcher/UI/whatever.
I used UL and BatteryStatus (before it turned into Homescreen ++) but I found in general the full UI has better response. My favorite is Pointui but currently they're hanging in development so I'll wait till they come back to it.
I also use MortButtons now, strictly for program launcher.
i would say either htc home or battery status, both use very little resources

I prefer Large HTC Home
It works good and no too much resources consumed, and in my fantastic 3.5" VGA screen looks very nice!
Cheers to all
yargo is vary customizable but dont know how far i can customize it. i like to use htc home with ul
Ive tried most of them but I always end up going right back to Ultimate Launcher.. My current setup is Homescreen++ as my main main screen in Ultimate laucher

[Q] [Req] Homescreen Switcher + several questions

Hey mates,
i have this friend (he's the typical iDork) who keeps annoying me with comments about how ugly he finds my homescreens...
i used to have only one scene (The Sense HD remix scene in minimal grey).
now i'd like to install launcher pro and make it look awesome, custom icons, everything designed as minimal as it gets.
only problem, every time i hit "home" my beloved desire asks me what homescreen it should return to. i know i can make it remember one of the two, but if i want to change then, i'd have to work through the settings and options...
so, here's my request:
a SIMPLE, SEXY WIDGET, that can instantly change the launcher assigned to the home button. i think it's not much work to do, if the API allows apps to change settings (not sure about that).
I'm a C++ programmer with zero experience in java, so i can't do it myself.
finally, i'd like to know how i can mod the launcher pro in the ways seen around on this forum (e.g. Mnml Icons as buttons etc.)
Thanks for your time,
Max
PS: does anyone know a widget for email/sms with a minimal style, such as Cal Widget with transparent background.
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > LauncherPro > Clear Defaults.
Do you need a widget for that? ..
this isn't my point
i want to be able to switch between two launchers FAST, so i have, let's say a private and a business launcher, one designed for usability, and the other for style.
i don't want to reassign the home button everytime i want to switch, thats why i wnat a widget, or a shortcut, which i just touch once.
but since it seems like i'm the only person here switching frequently between launchers, i guess i'll have to code something myself.
anyway, thx for your time.
Oh.
Not a bad idea.
Good luck.

HomeSwitcher.
Works from 1.5 - 2.1, I think.
Certainly doesn't support 2.2

No,not home switcher. It was called easy switcher or something like that, can't say for sure. It supported widgets for quick switching also. I found several with similar function Launcher switcher/Home manager/, don't know if this one has widgets.
thanks mates,
homeswitcher does indeed not support android 2.2.
anyway, i found "Launcher Switcher" BUT:
- doesn't provide a widget
- sends me to the android settings screen, when i want to re-bind the home button
so, i stiiiiiiiiill haven't fouuuuuuuuund, what i'm looking foooooor....
Cleardefaulthome
It takes you straight to the current launcher info page where you press clear defaults, then press home and select the one you want. Its the best option atm.

Request - if possible

Not sure this is where I even post a request to a dev, but hopefully they see it
Anyway, I like the blink feed, just not a fan of it being on any of my home screens. I am also not a fan of the huge clock and weather icon currently in the feed.
Would it be possible to have the blink feed visible after a swipe UP from the bottom of the screen, much like the notification bar can be swiped down from the top? Also, an option to remove the clock and weather for an extra news tile. I already have a clock, and a weather widget so they are redundant.
Might not be possible, but worth a try
A easier method for your request might be a different launcher.

But then the blinkfeed wouldnt work as its sense only.
Recommended from another user here: You could always try apex or another launcher and create a shortcut to htc sense, just remove the other screens on sense so it opens right to blinkfeed, works fine for me.

[Q] Ununtu Style Desktop?

I really like the look and feel of Ubuntu tablet. Specifically the large desktop. I hate the limited space on my nexus 10. It makes sense on a phone but I wish I could scroll like on a PC or Ubuntu when using a larger screen.
Anyone know if there's anything out there that resembles the Ubuntu desktop. I like stock jelly bean. This is just one of a couple of things that bugs me.

I also like a full desktop and use the following products to acheive that and also keep quick access to notifications and menu bar functionality.
full!screen - Hides both the notification and menu bars. You set a button (can be invisible), in one of the four screen corners, which has the ability to pop-up the notifications and other functions with a long press such as a last apps list. I liked this app so much that purchased fullscreen+ eventhough I do not use any of the enhanced features.
LMT - The PIE feature adds an autohide user definable menu where I have the menu bar navigation actions and a number of quick launch apps plus other functionality. This is a free app on XDA. Make sure to read the post's "Commands" documentation as it will help you understand how to get the most out of PIE . You access PIE on one side pf the screen or the other.
You need to be rooted but those apps work very well on Stock 4.2.2.

Sidebar pro, lmt launcher, and a ROM that can hide the status bar or an app like the one the user above told you. You can find all those apks on the googleplay or on the forum of xda.
Greetings.
Glovebox is an app that adds a shortcut bar that pops out from the side of your screen like Ubuntu Touch has.
If you have rooted device you can now hide soft keys (and keep notification bar) without modifications and reboots. Just try my new app:
GMD Hide Soft Keys
It also adds Quick NavBar - soft keys that can be opened with simple swipe from bottom and then autohide when not needed.
