Dead pixel in screen? - Acer Iconia A500

So I noticed this when I bought my tablet and tried to disregard it but after 2 weeks its starting bother me. I'm pretty sure its a dead pixel and trying to decide if I should bring it back to office depot and ask for a new tablet. What do you guys think? I posted two pictures to show what I'm seeing. On the first picture, its right by the N in education. I know, probably seems picky but when I'm on a white page, its pretty noticeable.

Well, if it bothers you then you should return the tablet and get one that doesn't bother you, simple as that. I also have a stuck pixel on mine, but it doesn't bother me at all and thus I won't be returning mine.

a white pixel (stuck on) I would definitely return.
I have two miscolored pixels on mine that chose to not care about. It's common with TFT screens..

You can fix it........unless its a grey or a black dead pixel......massage it hard and try to move it towards the nearest side the effect is not instantaneous.......use an app called pixel fixer.....leave ur tab on charging while using that app......do both the methods and it would be gone in a week.....(worked for my phone)....

That's a horrible recommendation for an LCD that sits behind a gorilla glass touch screen. Unless you tell him to take the gorilla glass digitizer first he'll be risking breaking the digitizer before he ever gets close to the lcd!

Rubbing the screen doesn't work on devices with real glass displays, especially not gorilla glass. That method only works on displays where the glass is flexible or malleable (like computer lcd monitors or earlier/older phones).
To the OP:
If you're brave you COULD attempt some very gentle finger taps right above the area. I suggest trying to find a software fix though. If you try and try and it still sticks, then go ahead and return. I couldn't deal with that on my screen either.

Exchange it for another one NOW. You paid for it. You should have nothing less than a good screen with no stuck pixel.

Sorry to read this.
I'm the guy who's windshield and glasses are never clean enough, so a dead or wonky pixel would drive me nuts.

Thanks for the suggestions but I ended up just taking it back. Like a few of you said, I paid for it so I expect it all to work right. They took it back no questions asked. All is well in the new one

Try it, worst that can happen is they say no. Best case you have a shiny new (blemish free) screen.
Just check it's not dirt/crud on the screen surface before you take it back
looks like oil under the screen - or like when you press hard on a tft screen and you see the ripple effect sort of thing.. it's fairly obvious when you look at it from an angle.
I called and they said i should be able to take it back to a store - the hardest part will be convincing a pcw bod to actually see it too...
i stuck angry birds rio shortcut on top of it so i can find it easily though
Seems impossible to find a number to an actual store that someone will answer... there's a pcw up the road but I only have the tablet. Not the box it came in... just wanted to know if they would swap it out or I would need to take the box et all back... sigh

Happily changed it at Derby but they tried to say it was out of warranty because it was ordered over 21 days ago... even though delivery was 2 days ago. Jerks

Don't take it back until the 4G version are out, that's what I am doing with my screen blemish. Even spoke with my VZW rep and he said hell yea, wait for the 4g versions.
Ha! Warranty is a year not 21 days. Screw those guys.

I wonder if manufacturers warranty is 1yr but you have 21 days to return the product to the store, i.e. PCW? I don't know but its crazy anyway.
Now my new xoom doesn't have that problem and just starting to set it up again but I have two Xoom's according to Android Market..
Code:
NICKNAME VISIBILITY MAKER MODEL
Xoom M Shown in menus Motorola MZ604
Desire M Shown in menus HTC HTC Desire
Xoom-old Hidden in menus Motorola MZ604
Apart from 'hidden in menus' there's no way to remove the device at the moment?
I don't think so, I was looking for a way to remove my old Desire the other day and couldn't find one.

Standard reply probably but at least I vented my frustration at being told it was out of warranty before it was even delivered...

E Ink Spot after rooting... - Any fix? :(

Hello,
I just rooted my NST successfully with Touchnooter. After I used it a few minutes (about 5 mins), I found a black spot in the middle of my screen which won't go away.
It's everytime there, no matter what I do, even if it's off I can see the spot.
Powering the nook off and on again doesn't help.
Since I imported it, I can't replace it. That's what makes me really, really sad. Is there any way to fix this stucked spot?
Send the picture. It may help understand what is happening.
I'll do a picture if I'm at home.
After I used ADW Launcher and opened the App Drawer (where I slided from left, to right, etc. to look for the app i was searching), I got a stuck pixel (the e ink display doesn't have pixels? that's why i called it ink spot or stuck spot).
It looks like a dead pixel which is black all the time, even if my nook is off.
There have been a few reports of dead pixels.
I heard that somebody got an exchange because of it.
I doubt that anything you did with rooting caused this.
There are multiple "pearls" or blobs per pixels. See this microphotograph:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/pamoroso/5407255967/in/photostream/lightbox/
I don't think that you are seeing a single pearl getting stuck.
It seems to me that the problem must be electrical.
If it were me, I might try just for the heck of it to see if it could get "unstuck".
I'd try some full-page black white transitions, but I wouldn't hope too much.
I'd go for the unrooting path. If it comes back to original state, re-root again and check if the problem shows up again.
Forcing a black screen and coming back should work (sort of a screen reset), maybe a screen check program would do the trick (look for it in the market).
I already did use my backup, but that didn't help, sadly. It seems to me, that this pixel is burned in the screen now.
I also used a whole dark screen because I also hoped to reset this pixel, this was also not working.
Aww, it's driving me nuts. Is there really an app in the market that could help me? Because dead pixel at an e ink device aren't that normal. Oh well, so sad. And I paid 200€ for it + 1 cover + 1 light because of the import, now that. T_T
Thanks for your replies, apeine.

Hmm, well they seem to be $79 now.
So, nobody knows a fix? T_T
like already said thi is a hardware issue..
it happens if you root or even if you root not..
its like you said a dead pixel.(on a TFT its not that bad because there are more pixel)
use the support(remove the root before)
thats the problem with a importet divice
its not cheap incase of an supportcase
As much as I like the Nook Simple Touch's general design, I have to say gross light diffuse!!! One day of use, extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely extremely careful on the screen. Now I have a white spot (when Glowlight is on) and black spot (noticeable on white background). Come on B&N! I really liked Nook (still do), but going with new Nook Glowlight (2013) is not an option for me at all. Up to now, no eReader can come close to the lovely Kindle Keyboard. It's like Windows XP of Microsoft products!
P.S. I guess the black spot occurred because of rooting, if not just because of bad design of NSTwG.
The black spot was definitely unrelated to rooting. The fragility of the light diffuser film is a very well known issue since day one. When the glowlight first came out bloggers posted pictures of their damaged bright spots. Though of course B&N never admits anyvsuch thing on their web site, so people just keep unwittingly damaging them. Get a replacement and use a case that protects the screen at least when not reading. I use a Speck case that has a formed shell that snaps onto the back and a hard book cover front. The whole thing is covered in fake leather. The inside of the screen cover is velvet-ish. I damaged mine too when I first got it. I was extremely careful too. Since then I use the case religiously and I know not to let anything touch that screen at all not even casually. Just my fingers. Since then no problems. I agree it is a bad design to be so delicate and bad policy and bad customer treatment not to warn you about it.

Thanks! yes I was aware of these issues right off the bat, but bought one as my 2nd eReader. Believe it or not, after this happening, I'm just more in love of my K3. It's just such a sturdy beast! Best of all readers, for me it even defeats Paperwhite or what not. It gets beaten around in my backbag etc. and I've had it for several years now. No wear. Handsome as first day.
My plan was to make this my main eReader, but now I can't fully trust it, so it'd still be my night time reader. Now my plan: get a case, be even more careful... and cherish K3.
Edit: Well, I have to say that the black spot is extremely small, like 1 pixel. You have to really look close to notice it. The white spot is even smaller and just noticeable in Glowlight and from one direction! From 3 other directions, it's not noticeable at all. With this, I realized: 1. The device had been like this since I got it in mail. 2. Rooting has nothing to do with these issues.
I still love my NSTwG though.

Or exchange it...it is very common on GS2's and Galaxy Nexus...I've seen people post, they bought a Nexus from Google and they have gone through like 5 getting one that doesn't have the dark blotch problem. Some GS3's have it too, mainly international versions. If you got a bad one, take it back...run LCD Test and show it to them, they have to exchange it.
It's something with the glue not drying inside the digitizer/glass assembly
one of the reason why I have not bought a galaxy s3. I don't want to play the exchange game.

Oh crap.. i was thinking of exchanging my unit because it came from factory with a small hairline nick/scratch on the area above the line sensor. Everything else is mint except this part and it annoys the hell out of me. However, I don't have any small black marks nor blotches on my screen. I just tested with LCD Test and it is perfect. Now I don't know if I should exchange it now for risk of getting a bad lcd :/
Would you guys exchange it if you were in my position?

You have to use lcd test on black with maximum brightness, you have to be in nearly complete dark, and you have to let your eyes adjust to darkness. Otherwise, you won't see them. Even the capacitive key lights are bright enough to wipe them out.
It's really a nonissue, unless your phone is defective. Some people's phones are really defective, and they are even able to take photographs of those.
Normally, there's no way to see them in any real world use.

Nexus 7 defects?

How many of you are having manufacturer defects out of the box?
Had a dead pixel on mine that I picked up from GameStop
Also it seems the screen is coming up on the left like if the adhesive is giving out already.
I spoke to GameStop who referred me to play store but then play store said any warranty claims have to be done through the retailer. Obviously GameStop is out of stock but they said they were emailing corporate for me today to ask for another unit to be sent. So I should have mine replaced around Wednesday hopefully.

Lol. Looks like trolling but I did read in another thread a guy had issue with his screen stating to come off his I/O device. I noticed mine while I was holding it on the left side the screen was giving in and making some creaking and such. Upon closer inspection I noticed on the left side/middle area the screen was actually sitting above the frame. Everywhere else it was sitting nicely and recessed under the frame.
Anyway the risk of defects is always going to be higher with the first runs.

Sure...its a bit difficult to see on a picture but its basically the screen rising above the border in one area so the edge of the screen is exposed. That same area is soft as well where pressing on makes the screen move in and out with creaking. The rest of the edges are sturdy.
Dead pixel I'm not posting photo since I'm sure everyone knows what that looks like but its located on the app drawer button in portrait mode. Shows up the most in white backgrounds.

Mine has a similar issue, its on the left middle section. Whatever is holding the screen down is coming loose like the adhesive. The screen works fine but you can see the screen is raised a couple a cm or so. Makes a slight creak sound.
Might contact Asus for warranty and see how they do it or just give Gamestop some time so i can exchange it.

Bet this is going to be a known issue all around. I was able to push it down but i figure its adhesive so its eventually going to happen again and again until the adhesive isn't sticky anymore. Sad days but other than that this tablet is solid.

Well according to ifxit, they are small retaining clips that hold it so i hope its not a broken clip. I could easily put more adhesive down a it looks like it just pops up.

I really appreciate it and thank you. Now I know what to look for once my N7 arrives.
My Gamestop doesn't have any extras, calling Google to see if they can do anything. I would like to see if i can get a replacement sent out and then send this one back but we shall see.
I returned 3 transformer primes for screen defects. Asus qc isn't the greatest. It's probably why they're prices are so good for what you get.
On mine when the brightness is on the lower end the screen starts to flicker a little. I think it's software related. But once you set the brightness higher it stops doing it.
Oh and it only does that on white backgrounds like google voice search.

Yeah, I dont think an rma is going to fix this. Don't squeeze it so hard... fixed.
Mine does it as well, so not knockin ya but. It has yet to be an issue in actual real life use. Sure you can sit there and pinch the thing, but just stop, and you'll never notice it again.
I am very OCD about my devices. Honestly, as long as I know that nothing is wrong with it in that category, I will be fine
I noticed the ripple on two of the three N7's I tried. While I think it probably SHOULDN'T be happening (i.e., it represents an underlying design and/or manufacturing flaw), I don't think it will cause any issues. Like the screen lift, it's one of those things where it's technically a defect, but it's not likely to cause any performance or other issues.
If I hadn't had other problems with mine, I'd have put the best N7 in a case and forgotten all about those two issues.
What were your other problems
My first one had pretty good screen seperation all along the left side, and pretty bad lightbleed from the left side.
My new one has barely any lift (just a 1 inch section, about a third the way up on the left side), but has the lcd ripple.
The screen seperation isn't even noticeable unless you lay it flat and look across the glass and this one feels solid, the first one was spongy.
I can handle the ripple, because it only happens when im messing with it, trying to make it happen.
