First of all for those around here who don't recognize the name - I hail from the Sprint side of things
I came to the Atrix was blown away by the stock rom. Had a look on good ol' XDA about 10 minutes after I left the AT&T store - unlocked.
The community here seems very friendly and the work that's being shared is very solid! I see mentions of CM7 here and there but haven't seen a link (wow it was right below this post too!) - Alien does everything I need.
I am, however, shocked to see no mention of MIUI and the Atrix anywhere. As amazing as MIUI ran on my Evo and Evo Shift, it's punishment not seeing this device taking advantage of all the pleasures that it should be delivering.
So, out of curiosity - anybody else out there wish we had something like that around here?
Yes; others have commented about it. What I've seen is that MIUI will come after CM7 which is still actively being worked on right now.
The Atrix was only recently unlocked. They also just got their hands on the source code, so expect good things soon.

Yeah it makes sense, from a kernel standpoint.
I haven't dived into the Atrix yet, or had the phone for very long (still haven't even researched webtop.) - I was just curious as to what kinds of development the community here was geared for.
Well, once we have CM7 fully working, porting MIUI to Atrix would not be a tall order! So, stay tight; we will have MIUI in due time
Edit: Late again to the party
I'm sure we all want it, its just the fact that it's based off of CM7 (Which we have, but is in an alpha/beta stage.) I'm sure once that is stable, We will eventually have ourselves some miui...i hope, at least

The hard work is definitely the modules etc. The MIUI launcher is stunning. The theme manager is so comprehensive...

yeah im more on the miui side, CM7 just gets boring to me, no editing on camera (i take lots of pictures), no editing on gallary app, music app is eh, everything is just plain. thats just my opinion though. i like eye candy (; like sense, miui, etc. even though i havent used miui since mytouch 3g slide it was pretty badass aha
MIUI is the rom I've been waiting for, cm7 looks ok and all, but it doesn't have nearly the appeal as MIUI does for me
Funny how people love Miui but hate iOS. All Miui is, is an apple ios look alike. Probably why people like it since ios is so pretty.

However, one CAN like the look of something but hate what it actually does and how it functions. That's why things like Android + MIUI or whatever are great, because you can get all the looks of something like iOS with infinitely better function
iOS and MIUI are pretty different imo. aesthetically maybe looks similar from screenshots .. but like thebeardedchild said, functions are COMPLETELY different..

If you think CM only adds a viable launcher you're crazy and haven't really dug into it.
Everytime I switch back to Google's offering of their OS I'm flabbergasted at how paltry and lean it is.
Did you even bother to read the changelog? UI changes are just a small part of what CM has to offer. There are plenty things "under the hood" that makes the phone way better than the ones running stock Froyo.

The android OS is so minimalist to begin with. Short of changing a few pngs here and there There's really very little reason to do so. The majority of the time on a smart phone is spent inside applications.
The benefits of CM are really all under hood stuff, and tweaks.

Um...no.
CM is AOSP plus a whole slew of features that should have been default in AOSP.
CM is far from a vanilla rom.
Have you ever wanted to redesign a thing so it would be right?
Well here it is. The code is there to be touched. The devs have sweated into it. Its not data mining for Google though it can be. It's not spinning frames though it can track context.
Take others' advice and read up.
As for me, I'll know when my transition criteria are in cm.
I heard that it is faster than other ROMS but the battery life is inferior to Fresh Custom ROM and others. Is this true?
Also, call me crazy, but AOSP is just plain and ugly. =/
I get the same battery life on sense roms that I do on cm.
With cm7, there is a 'theme chooser' app which is pretty cool. There are only 3 themes right now but i am sure it is easy to make your own.
Also, there are cool things like quite times, gestures, goggles (prevents you from drunk texting, lol), and settings so you can tweak basically any aspect of the phone.
It really comes down to preference is all. If you havent tried it out you should, you never know if you will like it or not

True. I know that it is as customizable as it gets, but I am reluctant to leaving the aesthetics of Sense behind. I know it can be quite unnecessary, but some of it is actually pretty useful. I specially like how it handles "People" where it syncs the information with Facebook, Twitter, etc. and segregates all relevant TXTs, e-mails, profile updates to that specific contact. Does AOSP have a similar option?
I am not the social network kinda guy so I am not sure. I'm not going to say there is an app for that because I would have no idea lol!
I can totally see someone digging sense, as I have used myn's and it is definitely visually appealing. I have also used MIUI and I can see how people like that also.
You can always do a full nandroid and return to your original rom after you try it out. More or less, just wanted to make sure people knew it wasn't just a plain jane rom
load it up and give it a shot.

I installed CM on my EVO and got annoyed because it wasn't the Vanilla ROM I wanted. It used ADW for a desktop and the Visual Voicemail and 4G didn't work. Lame.
Of all the ROMS, Fresh (all though probably the most conservative) seems to be the most stable.
I bet if we all came together, we can get Cyanogenmod on the ATRIX 4G before the SGS2. I know some devs will be receiving a few ATRIX to begin development.
I'm up for a $50 donation for the dev to release CM7.
I'm sure others are willing to donate also so we can all have CM7 on our great phone!
Cheers,

Given how many "Atrix sucks, SGSII!" (or other comparable phone) threads that seem to appear, us getting CM7 first would make my day.
The person who maintains the official Droid CM7 port is getting an Atrix, so we'll definitely be getting it at some point.
i'll chip in $20 if we can get the atrix as an official CM device

I've been a fan of CM since the G1. It made it run like the n1 when it first came out lol pretty much. I have only tried beta CM7 when it first came out on the mytouch 4g so i probably have missed out alot, thats when i went to WP7 lol.
seeing as how samsung sent them an sgs2 I highly doubt it'll happen

I'm getting my Atrix on Tuesday. I just switched over from Tmobile, figured i'd sign as a free agent before i got traded. Had an awesome MyTouch 4g. In my honest opinion it is sooo much better to have a dev create a build solely for your phone rather than go with CM. It's like being in a classroom with thousand's of students instead of being in a classroom with 10. You get much better support, quicker updates, and a better overall experience. Don't get me wrong, CM is great but I went with TeamRoyal who was only doing work on the MyTouch and they had 2.3.4 out quickly with Netflix working before CM was anywhere close to it. So i hope there is a Dev for the Atrix that is going to be working full time on a rom rather than waiting for CM.
I've said it in another thread, but yes, I would donate 15-20$ to a successful CM7 port project.

Yep, i was overwhelmed as well. In less than 24 hours we got, unlocked bootloader, full CWM, and a 2.3.4 rom. Supposedly, CM7 is also a work-in-progress.
If this rate of the development keeps we might actually edge sgs2 to a CM7 port.
pff I usually just read through these forums, but what the hell, Ill donate a decent amount too
I'm still not quite sure why so many people love CM7. Yes it a great ROM but I feel like the way it looks it just all right, and the new blur-themed 2.3.4 GB rom for the Atrix is a lot smoother.

agreed.. it runs like poo. as of now. runs like poo on droid x 2. we will have to see how it runs on ours? on CM it makes the phone "yours" as in you can do anything you want to it. so much customization, etc. a sense port would be nice but that would take a loong time, and miui.
Is it just me or is Epic development almost dead?
Two-three months ago there was CM6,MIUI,CM7 and more original roms in the works, what happened?
Yeah i know that for CM7 they are waiting for official GB to drop but what about CM6 that was 90 percent finished and MIUI that was almost finished?
I know that we still got roms but most of them with exception of ACS and few others are mostly remixes and tweaks of stock rom.
Our Epic is way behind Vibrant,Fascinate and Captivate.
It's just you. Don't knock what the amazing developers have done for us. We have plenty of roms and we will have plenty once gingerbread drops.

i got more thanks tomorrow.
This is my first experience with custom ROMs and I for one am very content with the amount of development for the Epic. I have looked at other forums and yes there may be a larger following, or more talk about development, but a lot of it seems to be garbage. I have flashed and used a few different ROMs now and they are all solid with few if any bugs. SRF is what I am running now and I have not found a single functionality issue. I also love that the Epic devs continue to improve their product instead of releasing some piece of crap ROM and never touching it again. Also the relatively smaller quantity of development makes things like qbking's videos possible and help all of us learn to better utilize the phones potential.
I say cheers to the devs for what they do and the time they put in! I could never accomplish even a portion of what they do. Thanks guys!

Quality over quantity anyday our devs cook up some amazing stuff for us.
Sent from my SPH-D700
I love this phone. That is all.
Sent from Godot's place.
we have several quality ROMs and Themes to choose from
It should come as no surprise really. There are 3 main reasons why it may seem development is slow:
Small community. Meaning that our sample set in which developers are drawn is smaller. Thankfully, this phone was top notch in hardware when it came out, so it increased our chances of having very talented developers since it naturally drew people who seriously appreciated hardware. Hence, why we have a small number of developers but they're all very very good at what they do. It could have ended up with a small number AND not a lot of quality.
Touchwiz. What I mean by this is that we're still waiting on a fully functional AOSP based rom, with CM7 being the closest to completion. Without it, all there is to develop on is touchwiz, and we've pretty much exhausted what we can do with it (so far). Once there's one ROM on AOSP, that allows for more ROMs to be developed on AOSP. Plus, the completion of CM7 could very well attract developers who prefer to develop on AOSP to try a couple projects, and have simply been waiting for CM to be completed. This all ties in with reason number 3.
Froyo. Like touchwiz, we've pretty much done all we can do with it. With the release of gingerbread, it'll open up a whole new opportunity to develop. Remember, we went through the same thing towards the end of eclair's life. Not a whole lot of development, and everyone really just waiting for froyo. The difference was, however, that everyone was itching SO BAD for froyo that a lot of projects were done on DK28; we were truly behind the times then, and so even the developers were willing to play with a leak. Not so much now; we're not AS behind the curve considering there are still few phones (besides newly released ones) on gingerbread. This, too, is much like the anticipation of an AOSP precedent as mentioned previously: it's quite possible that there are potential developers who are simply waiting for gingerbread to be released before coming to this phone.

can anyone explain to me how the mytouch slide 4g has cm7 and overclocked gingerbread kernels with out gb source?

I don't know, but the easiest explanations are:
More developers? Better chance to figure out the kernel drivers on their own.
It's made by HTC? It's pretty much a known that samsungs kernel drivers are always wacky, and in general, what one phone has doesn't neccessarily help with another. With HTC, their kernel drivers are a little more consistent across phones and it's easier to make things work by borrowing and tweaking.
Linux loaded modules? Don't know if it's relevant, but it's possible to use these to overclock a phone in a round-about way.
There's something that really needs to be laid to rest here regarding the arguement that everybody gives saying "we didn't get cm6 when froyo source was released, so how are we gonna get cm7 just because of gingerbread source?" Two reasons:
One: we only had one dev working on it, noobnl. Now we have a TEAM. And each on is just as if not more talented than him.
Two: we didn't have another device to kang any AOSP driver source from. With cm7, our team borrowed what they could from the nexus s 4g. And rest assured, they DID get a little use out of it.

It's the same phone as every other HTC phone, once they get something working on one all the others get it pretty quickly.

then by the same logic, since the i9000 has gb, we should too? the only difference in the mytouch4g and most other htc phones is a keyboard and 4g. sound familiar?
normal android devices, and the atrix on 2.2, use some standard nice screen transitions. to enter an app, zoom in. entering each subsequent screen the page swoops from the right. and backing out the screen swoops back to the left.
now on 2.3.4, EVERY single transitino is a zoom in/out, and i have never seen such an ugly horrendous idea before. anyone know if there is a way to bring the device back to the stock method? maybe in custom ROM with frameworks edit or something?
just can't comprehend how someone thought "hey, this looks great, let's change it to this way". am i crazy?
Yeh it sucks, but you'll get used to it...

Yes.
But to fix your "problem" go to settings, display, then animation. Pick no animation to get rid of any transition. I don't think there is a way to get back to froyo transitions.
And now that I think about it, I don't remember it ever swooping left or right. I had a zoom in to enter an app and a hard cut home when leaving an app.
Oh it swooped left and right, I just confirmed this on 2.2. Its the standard android way. We read left to right. Right is forward, left is backwards, its a very valuable ui element to all android phones flow.
Of course for now I disabled animations, but that looks bad too. I just can't believe it, I truly am blown away by this.
I don't c anything wrong with them

I enjoy the screen animations
In this link you find UI Animations:

I dont mean to be a **** but really..?
We just need HUGE thread about how everyone hates little things in the new GB update. stickied at that matter. cause its so important to post about how you dont like the animations in GB.
XDA ATRIX forums were plagued with "when is GB coming" now its plagued with "this looks ugly" "i dont like this in GB". I'm sure it wasn't easy for moto to make this at all. if you guys like the old boring crap on froyo them go back to froyo.
Theme it, change it, learn to Dev, etc.

I get it, but I am saying that I've not hated something so much and been this annoyed at something in the last 10 years. I literally hate it with a passion and ruins the experience totally for me. Its that bad for me.
Edit: and yes I do have dev experience and will see how if possible to add it back so but this isn't a simple theme solution as the transitions are likely part of the moto frameworks or similar. I'll definitely look and try to learn more. I committed a couple hundred lines of code to the cyanogen repository last year and it got merged in to final, but I'm not so great in the grand scheme of these awesome devs.

yeah, all smartass aside jokes. im sure we will get someone to make animations. usually takes a while.
need stable ROM, then themes, then hacks/mods, then little things like animations. usually how it goes. we dont have a completely stable (custom) ROM. that i know of that is. like MIUI, CM7.

wow buddy you need to not stress so much off of phone animations. turn them off or load a different rom.

lol man... I think you need you need to find something more meaningful in your life if this is what makes your blood boil.
It was a little exaggerated obviously. But I do hate it immensely. It would be a good project to change it back.
I'm surprised this thread got even any opposition. Surely the other android phones you guys used had this. There isn't a single android yet like this till the atrix on 2.3.4. First of its kind.
I don't like the stupid animations in gingerbread, too but going to get used to with hate or love.
CognAtrix has standard animations....

Well for reference, gingerbread on all devices uses the standard method. Zoom in/out for the entry and exit point of the app to home screen, with all screen changes inside the app swoops left and right for forwards and backwards. Only moto changed to all zooms on gb, and they had it right on froyo.
All zooms actually messes you up a bit if you're doing some fast navigating around the device.
