Really strange Iconia<->Human compatibility problem? Anyone else experience this?
Ok, this might not be specific to only the Iconia, but its happening with a A500 so Im posting it here.
After my Mother got a A500, she started complaining that the birds in Angry Birds were some times launching by themselves, not launching at all, exploding in mid air, etc.
Now, after a few days of telling her it was USER ERROR, I stopped by to see first hand what was going on.
Before I get in to it, I have to clarify that neither my wife, kids, or myself have ever had any problems with AB on our phones, Tabs, etc.
Ok...she starts playing AB. After a few mins she tells me thats its happening. So, I try it and go through like 5 levels flinging birds at a rapid pace flawlessly.
She tries it again and continues to have a problem. After telling her she must be doing something wrong, or her fingernails are causing an issue....I watch what shes doing closely.....and she's doing it correctly. She will pull the bird back and hold it down tightly...and after a second or two it just lets loose. Hrrmmm. WTH!
A minute later, she cant zoom in/out at all (like its frozen). I try it and its smooth as butter. She tries it again and it wont do anything!
I have her wash her hands and keep them damp. Nadda. I have her use moisturizer on her hands and.....Nadda.
So, to not go on too much longer...has anyone ever heard of this? It seems to happen in waves. Maybe she has a chemical/electro-magnetic imbalance? Theres no pattern that we can figure out (diet, clothes, drinks, time of day, etc).
Anyone have any ideas? I'm thoroughly stumped here. :0
Thanks!
Does it do this when charging and off the charger..?
Yes, the first few times it was plugged in. But unplugging it didnt change anything.
While building a large gas plant in southwest Wyoming a few years back we had a secretary that would end up rebooting her computer everytime she stood up...
Of course we were in the environmental controlled room (cooled and dry) with the telecommunications systems (300 channels of 6 gig and 2 gig microwave and a 640 line PBX).
So we ended up building her a 25 foot static cord so she could move around and that took care of the reboot problem...
Maybe it is static ...

Thanks. That's an interesting possibility. I just dont know how/why it would build up while she is just standing still with the A500 on the kitchen counter....or sitting in a chair.
hrrmm....I'll see if I can figure out a way to discharge her and test it. Or maybe I should trying wiring her up to a ground stake :0
Try her on a capacitive touch screen phone, too.
Had a similar issue with my dad, his problem was that after years of manual labor, his fingertips were almost like paper, which seemed like it was causing too large a gap between the screen and the detectable flesh of his finger.
I had him exfoliate his fingers and it solved the issue.

maybe you should get a stylus. Not the fix that works best but possibly the only fix for this issue
I knew a guy that worked for Amtrack as the guy that takes the tickets on the train that had this same problem.
He never made a lot of money, so he couldn't get the problem fixed.
Which stinks, because everyone knows all it takes is a poor conductor to make stuff not work properly.
I'll be here all weekend folks, try the fish.

This is off-topic, but anyhow: That reminds me of this one guy who went to work in this large office building and worked just as he does normally. Then later on in the day electronic devices around him started acting abnormally, the carpet under his feet started melting and so on. Pretty scary stuff, so his co-workers called the fire department there who escorted the guy out. Turns out he had accumulated over 25,000 volts of static charge in his clothing and had he touched something that had circulated the charge back in his body he would've fried himself.
As to the topic itself: it could well be her fingernails or static charge. Hard to say which one unless you specifically set out to try.
Interesting thread! I went to college with a girl who also had similar issues with technology. Every time she tried to use a computer, it would turn off! Static electricity was indeed the culprit. She was like a lightening rod. Unfortunately, she ended up dropping out because of this.

I don't think it's off-topic. It's an interesting topic and it's under the the general discution over issues on this tablet and we should keep this that way. I know because i've done a mistake placing a question under the wrong topic but... knowledge is more importante than mistakes... i've got my answer...
Anyway no human has the same electrical conductivity as everybody else. Typical factors are skin type, deep, greese, etc. I could even quote the caous theory... the capacitive touche screen is better then the others t/s but there will be cases were this technology has issues. Not everything is perfect.
Well, to sort out the problem, i agree that the stylus is te best soluction to this particular problem.
Cheers to all,

There are devices you can wear to control the static/static discharge and buildup in your hands.
Not sure anymore where we bought them.I think a company called black box. blackbox.com is the address if i remember correct.this is more common then you might think.

I've had her discharge herself (I wont tell you how as I dont want "Parent Protection Services" showing up at my door) each time before using it and there has been a MAJOR improvement!
Its been very dry here lately (it is Texas afterall) so I'm sure that has made the static situation worse.
Thanks!

As an old-sk00l PC tech, I am quite familiar with the issues of hardware and static. I just never considered static as a possible cause for the random touchscreen issues she was having.
I myself arc all the time when touching metal. I mean loud, painful, scare small children kind of arcing. But, I've never had any issue with any capacitive screen device. She doesn't have that problem.
But live and learn. Now we all know!

She didnt have nearly as much of a problem with my Tab or phone...so I think the Iconia is probably just more sensitive to the static.
Thanks all!!
Dont forget also that if she has a lenoleum floor that material is probably the equal to rubbing a baloon in your hair for static electricity.
Even stone tiles can creative massive amounts of static.
my father has stone tile entry way in his house and i notice when i kneel down t0 tie my shoes i can feel the static on the floor.
I have lenoleum in my kitchen and have noticed wierd issues with my iconia and mesmerize phone. Never thought about static until reading the thread.
They should make this a sticky and add a warning about the tablet being sensative to static

Yeah, until the static was mentioned, I was trying to convince her that there was something wrong with her and that she should see a doctor...hehe....and that I was clearly adopted!
In hindsight, her house is all natural tile and carpet. And the "happening in waves" part was the result of walking around the house (tile->carpet->tile) then coming back to the Iconia.
I agree that there should be a sticky. I wonder how many people returned their "stupid POS tablet!" because they thought it was defective.

**First, I don't know if this really belongs in the Q&A Section or in this General Section, so sorry if I misplaced this thread.**
Here's the story:
Yesterday in San Francisco marked the last day of Fleet Week demonstrations by the Blue Angels, who ride FA-18 jets. Our Italian Heritage Day and Columbus Day parade was held at the same time the flight demonstrations occurred. My school marching band (which I am part of) participated in the parade, and we would here the jets flying above us, producing loud cracks, so I assume they were creating sonic booms.
I put my HD2 in a thin leather sleeve, which then goes into my band's U.S. Marine uniform's inner breast pocket. Of course, the two-mile parade made me sweat. At the end of the parade, I took out my phone, and the sleeve was wet (but the phone was dry). When I turned it on, it was frozen, so I did a soft reset. When it rebooted, I noticed something weird...
Here's my issue:
Every time I add pressure on the power button (I don't have to depress it all the way), it launches my task manager (ArkSwitch) and the screen freezes until I turn off the screen by fully depressing the power button. When I turn on and unlock the screen, ArkSwitch is open.
I flashed the T-Mo USA stock ROM (WM6.5), and when I add pressure to the power button, it launches the Start Menu. This made me realize that the power button has somehow been cross-wired to the screen's top-left corner (where the start menu is now located, and where the ArkSwitch activation field was located)!
Here's a question:
Has anyone ever heard of this before? My friend's iPhone, right after the parade, could not make a call -- it would not launch anything, but the home screen still swiped left/right. Another friend, who has a Samsung dumb-phone, took out his phone at the end of the parade, and the screen was shattered! Is it possible that the waves from the sonic booms may have affected our phones (We've been in longer, hotter parades, so I don't think humidity is much of an issue, especially taking into consideration the broken screen of my friend's Samsung. Also, the water damage indicators are still white, so sweat didn't penetrate)? This has never happened to me before, but this is the first time I marched this particular parade with my HD2 in my pocket (I've already marched 3 parades with the HD2); I marched with my TP2 in the same pocket last year, and it was never affected (I marched probably 6-7 parades with the TP2).
~~I now have restored stock SPL, and I'm going to go to the T-Mo store to try to get a warranty swap.
Update
I'm getting a replacement phone soon.
I spoke to one local rep and 2 CS (on the phone) reps. All 3 of them were dumbfounded when I explained the hardware problem. The local rep who actually witnessed me pressing the Power Button, which launched the Start Menu, was so confused he didn't even bother doing anything -- he immediately took out the battery, looked at the water damage indicators, wrote down the IMEI, and told me he wrote a note on my account regarding a strange hardware problem, and that CS will deal with warranty swaps.
The 2 CS spokespersons were just plain confused about the issue! Good thing they just ended up doing a warranty swap without pulling the "Did you do a hard reset?" stuff.
Anyway, I'm still curious as to how this happened. I've had my HD2 since mid-April, and this failure occurred only yesterday (Oct.10).
Wow, that's strange
If you have another device you should use that one for a day or two and leave all cards and the battery out of device, and maybe put some pressure on the hard send key. Something similar happened to my Topaz over the summer, it was really hot out and I'm pretty sure I didn't get any sweat on it. Anyways, somehow the next day the windows hard key opened up the dialer all of a sudden and there were some tiny green lines on the phone.. after a while the green slowely creeped down to the bottom of the screen and dissapeared (over a period of three months) and the hardware buttons eventually fixed themselves (over about a week).
Were you drinking at this parade?

No offense intended, but the Blue Angels don't "ride" FA-18s, they fly them. In aircraft passengers ride and pilots (or naval aviators) fly.
The Blue Angels did not go supersonic. The aircraft at the airshow did not affect your phone in any way. Think about it. If you experienced a sonic boom that could break your phone, what do you suppose would have happened to your eardrums? Plus, the Blue Angels are all about precision flying. I guarantee they didn't accidentally go supersonic, and they damn sure didn't do it on purpose. Hope that helps narrow down what happened to your phone... Wish I could be more help, but at least I eliminated a blind alley!

I didn't have alcohol of course, but I did have a bottle of water after the parade (and I swear I didn't miss my mouth when I drank it).

Not offended at all. (I admit I'm ignorant when it comes to aviation.)
Geez, when 3 Blue Angels members (1 pilot and 2 engineers) came to my school for a brief recruitment presentation, they did say they go supersonic during some points of the demonstrations -- maybe they realized us kids these days just don't know that much about aviation.
I love watching the Blue Angels fly. I used to go to Downtown SF each year to watch them on their last performance, but now that my marching band participates in the parade that occurs during the demonstrations, I barely get to watch them anymore (I just hear them flying above me).
Thanks. Now I think aliens are just screwing with me...

The iPhone is working fine; my friend has had no issues since the parade. The Samsung, which had the broken screen but still had calling capabilities, stopped working altogether -- my friend just got a new phone to renew his contract.
I'm still at school and my HD2's at home, so I don't know if it's working well yet.
sure its a screen issue...there is a video on youtube of a hd2 being pressed near the hardkeys and doing funny things
Had like same problem with my old Wizard. when pressed over dpad up button it launched always start menu, but when pressed exactly at dpad up button it did what it was meant to like there would have been extra button hidden..
but as for sonic boom, no they didn't do that at no chance at all. it is very dangerous for people near mostly for ears. and as far as I know they are allowed to do that only very high in the air where is no "outsiders" and only far away from cities and other stuff.
thumbs up for you getting new phone
Well my HD2's still broken... Looking at the UPS tracking, I should get my phone in 20 hours (when I get home from school tomorrow).

See, the weird thing is, why would the hardware suddenly fail after 6 months of use?
I imagined the would fail within one month of using the phone; I never thought of it taking 6 months.
I finally received my HD2 today. I can tell it's refurbished; the screen was not lined up correctly with the uni-body sides/back design, so I had to push the screen down on the sides to line it up (I assume the screen was replaced on this device). Whatever, just as long as this lasts me at least another year, it's fine.
Scabes24, the "fix" you recommended hasn't worked yet, and I will have to return the broken phone by the time it might fix itself (you said about 1 week).
Back to flashing... I can finally update my one-month-old ROM and my sig.

Hello. I hate to even make the post, but I do so love XDA-developers, and maybe somebody can help me out.
I managed to dunk the phone, lets not discuss how, in some pond water. I scoured the int3rwebz for solutions and seemed best advice was to dry with desiccant and a suggestion of an alcohol wash or use of electrical contact cleaner.
The phone was on when dropped, off when recovered. Water damage indicator on the phone was tripped, but the battery still shows red x's. Waited the requisite amount of days and the phone works! everything works.
Now the problem- I get a bit worried about the left over pond scum and I decide I'd be the mad scientist to use electrical contact cleaner on it. Sprayed the suspect areas and immediately blew out the phone with compressed air, let it sit a few nights in desiccant. Now I have some small bubbles in the screen( which was NOT sprayed...) . FML. figure they may be trapped cleaner and eventually evaporate. Not a huge deal, just a bit annoying.
THEN I realize my vibration now does not work. I attribute this to either the water or contact cleaner.
I am now one of a million posting "PHONE GOT WET HALP!!!" and I apologize for such a newbie post, but is there any hope for the vibration to begin working again magically?
Haptic feedback is a fairly big part of this phones operation, and I use silent mode at work with vibration.
If I am screwed on the vibration I have another newbie question:
Can you set different ring tones or sms tones to certain contacts? I have had phones that do this in the past but I cant seem to find anything on this one. I am using the newest version of fission at the moment- 2.6.1.
THANKS for any help/ useful information!

If you look in the battery compartment, I think in the lower left, you can actually see the vibration motor. I would check and make sure that nothing is blocking it. However, I would venture to say that being that it is the only (powered) moving part and being it being so exposed, I would imagine that it would be the most likely to get short circuited or otherwise damaged by the water.

I would concur that it was probably short circuited. Do you have insurance?
I agree. I absolutely did not purchase insurance. Live and learn. That's why I don't mind using it as is.
On to the second question- any way to select varying tones for different contacts in phone ringer/ sms tones? Would I just find something on the market for this? again using fission ROM.
Can you change the green missed call/ sms received LED?
I should have left the phone as it was after drying and not gotten paranoid about the "left over pond scum mineral residue" Oh well.. again live and learn.
Thanks again for the replies.

Open the contact that you wanna change, hit menu and select "options" and it's obvious from there. As for the LED, try an app called Missed Call.
Sorry I missed those to begin with.

Second, I think you got really lucky here especially for the phone having been on, and ESPECIALLY that the battery didn't get wet or damaged. For what happened, the vibration being gone is pretty minor damage.

I agree. I guess mad at myself because it was ok before the contact cleaner (d'oh). Oh well, maybe it will reduce some corrosion.
And thank you -Gilgamesh- Don't know how I missed that. I'll try that app as well.
I have a hard time contact cleaner as being the culprit. If it damaged electronics, then it would kind of defy the whole point? Not trying to argue, just seems like it would be the least likely thing to do it. Was it powdery or foamy or something? Maybe it clogged up mechanism, maybe try poking at it with a quetip or something to dislodge it? Or maybe the air pressure pushed some moisture further inside where it could do some damage? Either way, guess I'll make sure to stay away from using it myself anyway. >.<
WELL.. the electrical cleaner in question does say to re-lubricate any movable parts as the cleaner will most likely dissolve oil/lubrication. My guess is that this vibration motor was lubricated if only in a small way.
I agree, unless the phone was submerged in something KNOWN caustic or corrosive, then I would just dry it, and be done with it. (I do also have the new screen bubbles/ dead pixels after the cleaner too.) I read the stories of people submerging in high grade alcohol after the water based dunk so I thought what the heck and the mentioned area in the lower left- looked like a board to me- was sprayed (of course with battery out). I tested the stuff on paper and it was dry within seconds just from air. I sprayed the phone out with compressed air afterward and another few nights in industrial strength desiccant.
So now I'm wondering if I spray some lube (WD-40 just a drop?) into this area in the lower left (Vibration motor?) of course with battery out and adequate dry time?
Thanks for staying with me. I installed a few LED applications and now at least know how to set different ring tones for different contacts.
Of course I'm ecstatic that the display even works after the submersion. I was already pricing 6-700 phones and even thought of...dare I say it... downgrading.
-Andrew
I really wouldn't. WD-40 is high pressure, thus when the tiniest little squirt would prob end up coating most of the inside of the phone. With the battery out I doubt it would cause any shorts, but it may still cause via corrosion because of the chemicals. IF I were to use any type of lube on it, I'd use something made for moving parts, such as the little thing of oil/lubricant you get with a hair trimmers. That way you can easily just put a small drop. That being said, I have no idea what effect using such a product might cause. May fix it, or could permanently damage the phone. Never really tried anything like that.
Personally I would just cut my loses now. There isn't very much damage, and you don't know how much more damaged could be caused by doing something like this. Just my opinion.
Yeah probably best to leave well enough alone at this point. Working screen for the most part, everything else working, just a dead vibration mechanism.
Lesson to be learned for anyone searching- if you have no real reason to beleive the device will be corroded by the substance the device was submerged in... JUST DRY IT WITH DESICCANT! Like I said mine was on and streaming music when dropped, completely off when recovered. I thought it was shorted out for sure, or at least would have tripped some kind of fuse only to be known by verizon/ motorolla techs to be cheaply replaced for refurbished units.
Anyway... just glad to still have a working device. Now to live this down as the GF got a $0.01 droid 2 at the same time as i did, but hers works perfectly fine (I smell a sabotage in the near future.....)

HA! Decided that id add a drop of wd-40 to the vibration motor. After re-reading gilgamesh's post here I remembered seeing a turbine like piece of metal spinning with the compressed air. I was thinking the very lower left where the main board is exposed, but this is pretty much to the left of the middle of the battery. You can see a white motor with gears on the output shaft and the "spinning metal fan blade...thingy"
so, I pull my battery and.... blue silica desiccant ball! Dunno how I missed it. Removed it with a pencil, battery back in, fire it up, success!
So now I just have what im guessing is some left over cleaner under the plastic screen, but it could actually be lcd damage. Ill just have to see if it ever evaporates.
Still in the running for luckiest unlucky droid 2 user 2011!
thanks again guys,
-andrew
Oops- double posted. Anyway moral of the story is use desiccant, but block all passages (I used cotton on the audio jack and port at lower left that goes to mainboard, but forgot the vibration motor.) And don't get any cleaner anywhere near the screen as it seems to have messed up my lcd a bit.
Also- if your vibrate stops working make sure that metal fan spins freely when you blow on it/ use compressed air.

Hi,
i contacted samsung technical support concerning the newtron rings issue and ask to get an extended warranty through them instead. But i learned that this issue has never been reported to samsung. We should all contact and let samsung know about this issue just in case down the road we encounter this problem. this is actually my second tablet, the first one i got has this problem and it will be just a matter of time for you to get it too. READ THE CONVERSATION i had with samsung. my fear is that samsung will eventually ignore our situation when we get this problem.
Juanita G: Could you please be more specific about the issue with the tab?

gtabby: just to also let you know my first purchase was on maimi and as soon as i landed on chicago i had to run to the closest best buy to get an exchange because of this issue
gtabby: but it seems that it will eventually happen to all tablets...
gtabby: with makes my current tablet a target
Juanita G: Just to confirm, is there any issue with your tab now?

gtabby: ok.. so this is a new issue? and no one has reported this on your end?
gtabby: i'm sure best buy has a few return regarding is issue.. because i return one
Juanita G: I apologize; there are no such issues on this tab model.
gtabby: ok.. please humour me then, what is my next step if i get this issue down the road?

NEWTON rings, maybee that's the reason they don't know what OP is talking...
humor aside, there are quite a few threads regarding this already, no need for another one!
I don't understand the anxiety. I periodically get them. However, it doesn't affect performance and I can't see them when the screen is on unless I turn it at a extreme angle.

I believe it's evidence of the apocalypse. Isn't "minor tablet defect" one of the four horsemen?
Personally, I liked the new Tron better than the original. Both are fun, though, and shouldn't be taken as literal representations of how computers work or anything. They're metaphors for the interaction of logic and emotion.
Oh, sorry. I've not seen any issue with Newton rings on my tab, but it pretty much just stays at home.

Oh, karma bit me in the ass today.
First time I've ever had the newtons rings. Left the tab out in the sun for a bit (love that I can actually read in the sun on this screen) and had the issue when i picked it up and touched the screen. They went away after a few seconds, literally as I watched, and have not come back. Now that I've experienced it though I can't really see the big deal. You really can't see it when the tab is on. Well, serves me right for making fun anyways.
Haha karma can be a ***** and I bet com me posting this now I'll get my own set.. btw I don't have them. But it seems that there are tons of people that do not have them. Maybe its the way people handle their tabs. Sure these tabs shouldn't have issues from a bit of rough handling or the like. And what's funny to me at least, his that the people that have them and send them into samsung, to be replaced.... they get thm again shortly after the replacement is in their hands. That leads me to belive that they handle it rough. Or something....

I'm guessing it's a warm climate that does it. Like I said in mine, it happened because it was hot. The real question is whether it's really an issue. If you can't see it when it's turned on, why worry about it?
What serial number you have on your tablet?
I have the R63B (3rd batch), no probs what so ever... I was in the sun for a week while in vacation.
Maybe you shouldn't leave it in your car or whatever your doing to create such high heat or humidity... I dunno, never had an issue with mine, but then again, I don't let my tablet or laptops sit in the oven that can be a car on a hot day... Common sense tells me that it isn't a smart thing to do, but I am not an expert.
in my case the cause is heat... if you add pressure to the heat the NR will become worst and take longer time to cure.
My tab gets them when you turn the tab upside down, or if you hold the tab in a vertical position.
I never had this problem until I had the Ghost Armor installed on the back of my Tab. I guess having the tab upside down and the pressure from the install cause this to initially occur. The rings did not go away for several days and then they finally went away but they come back when I turn it upside down or on its side but then go away within 30 seconds.

Didn't mean to thank you for that post. In fact just the opposite. Maybe you're not familiar with the concept of climate. You see in some places the world is warmer than others. But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and blame your self-righteousness on your climate.
I have the same problem and it is getting bigger and bigger. I called up Samsung and they also said it isn't a known problem but they would book it in for repair. That would be great however I need it for work.
I've had my Verizon GT 10.1 4g LTE for about a month now and no ring problems here. No other problems either. I love it.
Rings
When it gets hot (in the sun) I get distortions in the screen. I once put it in the freezer for a few minutes and they went away until I left it in my car again. Now I put it under the seat.

Mine is R61B so maybe its a problem for the first batches?
Dear Wildfire users, If you struggle with cash like I do, and your favorite Wildfire has issues with TS - dont think that it is gone and needs replacement!
I do a lot of phone service myself, for a lot of friends and I even do it for the money sometimes, cause here where I live repairs are expensive and I know how to fix many things and do it for the half price. I even opened SGS3 and OneX on couple of occasions (units without warranty) and I know what im talking about:
TS failure can occur as a consequence of the following, in most cases:
1. digitizer failure
2. connector failure - mostly ZIF connectors - Zero insertion force, which means that they can as easily pop out as they are plugged in.
3. dirt inside/between glass and the screen
4. magnetic field (TS gone for good)
5. allowing phone battery to go bellow 15% (making static wrong values)
6. micro holes in gorilla glass - yes, it is possible and it happens a lot, and when ever something polar goes into that micro hole - screen goes nuts.
My screen was all crazy, so I started looking for the solution that is maybe related to the wildfire in general, and ALL I could find was - "dude, your TS needs replacement" - NO. it may be one of aforementioned causes.
Opening the unit is a bit tricky, but like any other phone, If you have a knack for it you dont even need the tutorial.
I opened it, cleaned the sides of the screen, re-plugged the ZIF, cleaned the "scrollwheel thingy" that HTC likes to putt on phones for no reason, reassambled the unit, cleaned the front of the glass with glass-cleaner compound - and everything works JUST fine.
Im writing this so any of you would know that it doesnt always mean that the ubit is broken, it may be that it isnt working correctly at the moment. And repair guys are rude, and liars, at least in my country .. that's why I started to open phones by myself.
I've let my battery go under 15% loads of times, and my touchscreen has never messed up.

what evantcom said. It's just like radiation there is a mathematical probability that one could enter Nuclear reactor core naked, for X amount of time, and not get radiation poisoning and die - but not likely. There is also probability that one could get his DNA screwed up > turned into cancer, by actions of a single Gamma ray Photon - but not likely
Alowing your device to go under 15% is a TS hazzard. We all do it, sometimes out of necessity, but that is the fact.

Ok guys - weird happenings, i use a usb cable from my desktop pc to charge my N4 at times. I had been sitting it on top of the pc tower & it has fallen onto the laminate floor 3 times and came out without injury. So i thought it was vibration from my pc tower, so i have been sitting the phone on my pc desk surface, today i found the phone hanging half way across the edge of the desk. There is no serious vibration to mention from my pc or desk, the phone has not been ringing for the phone vibrate to cause it either. So does anyone else have any paranormal activity with their N4 strangely falling off surfaces??
only thing i notice is the glass bottom surface is very slidey
This has been a problem since day one. Put a rear screen protector on. That'll fix you up.
this is the reason I bought a bumper when I ordered mine
Yeah, that's not paranormal I'm afraid, the back is very slippery, the device can and does slide even with no vibrations at all. Just make sure to place something in the surroundings of the phone when you leave it charging that can block random slides.
cheers guys, this is surely a bad design, im so lucky no serious damage occurred. Ill buy and try the rear screen protector as im not a fan of phone covers etc, Fingers crossed this does the trick. Many thanks guys for the feedback :good::good: :laugh:

You are charging it with your PC on top of the tower with a cable tugging on it... And you are saying it is bad design? Give me a break.
Try using your charger and maybe put it someplace where the cable will not pull it. This is not rocket science.

stop being such a forum ****.
I never said i was charging it on top of the pc tower, i sat it there. When its charging its on a flat desk surface as is the charge cable. I have sat the phone on my desk and sat it on top of my wallet and it falls off. So with this phone i will need to be careful how i place it. Of course its a bad design, i should be able to sit my phone flat on a flat surface and not worry about it falling onto the floor. Nexus aint gonna give me a new one if it were to get broken and no warning came with the phone.
oh and you know what, common manners to fellow humans, that aint rocket science :silly:

Search for Zagg. Also do not search for screen protector. Try searching "skin" or back protector.

my n4 has probably fallen/jumped at least 50 times over the past 5 weeks, and its still in perfect condition(no cases or screen guards). luckily, the far majority of falls have been on a carpet, but some have been pretty scary
I can also say that I find mine sliding. It's quite weird actually, from the tests I've done I've noticed that it usually occurs when I have it on my leather couch or my ottoman. Yes, I know it's not a desk but the phone is sitting there rather level. It has also done it on my home desk as well, but not at my work desk (yes, both desks are level). It kind of reminds me of an air hockey table type situation. If you have it on your desk and push it, it doesn't require as much work as lets say an SGS3, Galaxy Nexus, or Blackberry to move. Basically the way it's designed causes it to not create much friction between it and the surface it is on.
Although, none of this bothers me since the phone is a fricken beaut.

man this means no where can be trusted to sit your phone. what puzzles me is it always slides off to danger, not further onto my desk .

im not making fun of him. and there is something acting on it, its called gravity. it does mean that the surfaces arent perfectly flat, but even the slightest non perceivable slant cause it to slide.

Better get a thicker skin quicker as you're dealing with a lot of teenagers in these forums. Its like playing WoW, way too many prepubescent teens.
guys, it's not the phone. It's the surfaces you're placing it on. Most tables/desks are nice, smooth and shiny. Combine that with the glass and a NOT SO PERFECTLY FLAT SURFACE and you get falls
Trust me...it's not voodoo or non-Newtonian physics
Just get any cheap gel case and you're set. I actually got a brilliant one for 2 GBP Really nice looking and with really really grippy sides.
Thread clean. It's really not nice to make fun from someone, especially here - on a biggest tech forum in the world
