I have been using Microsoft Myphone to backup & restore my contacts, calendar, & text messages on my Tilt 2 & I love it but just found out that it is no longer working & I was wondering what backup & restore programs you all are using & the ones you like best. The most important things that I want to be able to backup & restore are my contacts, calendar, & text messages.I really liked using MyPhone because I was able to go to their website & sign in & could see along w/edit all of my contacts & calendar & also could see & reread the text messages I had saved.I'd really like to find another program that is like MyPhone if at all possible.
I did find something called M:IQ that seems to be similar to MyPhone & what I am looking for.Has anyone tried this program or using it now? If so is it any good & how do you like it? Also is it easy to use?
Any help you all could give me is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I used to use Lookout Mobile Security to back up text messages and call log. You could also use PIM Backup for that. An easier way would be top sync with Gmail via Exchange. It will backup tasks, calendar, contacts, and mail. Task sync was hit and miss for me, though.

try funamobl works perfect. it takes some time to find the right link to download and to figure it out but once you do it is easy.
I use Pandapp PC Suite for WM. It backs up my call log, contact, etc. But doesn't backup programs though. It's almost as if I never flashed my phone each time I did.
Sent from my MSM using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
I have been using Sprite Back-up 6.5.5 build 11 for awhile now and have no complaints. I have my entire phone backed up on my SD card. Has saved me a few times. Lots of options for back-up with the Sprite. Cannot find anything comparable.

Hi all, I've just upgraded my O2 Exec ROM, not being a PC user i assumed that activesync (using my flatmates PC) would back up everything, including MMS and SMS messages.
With over 300 SMS messages, a lot of them personal, others with important information in them, i would like to be able to recover them.
if theres any way to do this i would appreciate any help.
thanks,
brodie
Nope, you're f***ed. There's no recovery program at my knowledge.
did u make a backup? ...-if u made a full backup, just restore that.
no i think i just synced it. i saw no option for backup, only sync so assumed it would back it up.
I didnt really pay much attention to it, just checked all the boxes in active sync and synced it, upgraded the ROM and synced back again, but no sms.
Just looking now and my other email accounts havent appeared, am i missing something? does activesync not copy your other accounts either?
No, sorry to say but ActiveSync only copies you default outlook folders. No copy is made of SMS, MMS and other mailboxes that are set up. So sorry to say but I don't think you'll ever see the lost data again.
A little late for now but I'd recommend using a backup utility for future use. Which btw does not solve all of your problems as a backup made with a specific Rom can almost never be restored on an upgraded device with a different Rom. For SMS I use Jeyo Outlook Companion which creates a PST in outlook and keeps your SMS messages in sync. You can that also copy the SMS messages to any mail folder you'd like.
thanks for the replies all, looks like i shouldnt be so hasty and assume everything gets synced!
I'll look into backup utilities, have to wait until pocketmac or missingsync works with WM5!
I use jeyo sms outlook add on, for sms, and also look at personal vault, http://1800message.com/default.aspx to back up your phone I use Backup manager of sunnysoft, works like a treat.
Afternoon XDA!
I plan on a bit of a rom flashing marathon on my phone this next week to see what else is out there and perhaps even teach myself a thing or two.
My question is - which application is best for backing up my contact and SMS (and perhaps shortcut) data for the HD2? On older devices I've used PIM backup to take care of contacts and messages, but with the HD2's Facebook integration will this method work? I'd ideally not have to link everyone back up with their profiles after flashing.
I've heard that SPB backup may have issues if restoring from one rom to another so not sure how well it'd work.
What's your recommendation?
Thanks
Hi there,
Spb backup works great for me. Had tried some others but have been using spb backup 2.0 since my Touch HD. Never had any problem.
HTH,
Sam.
I also use SPB Backup.
I'm more than happy using MS myphone - backs itself up each night so I don't have to think about it. 200MB of storage, can even do pics and vids.
Hi, I use Myphone and Googlesync for my backups. Additionaly installed apps are on my PC or my Marketplace or PocketPCfreeware accounts and my data is on my SD card and PC. I think one of the problems people have experienced when they use full backup programs is if they accidently restore the registery from their old configuration over their shiny new system. Oh and one of my friends lost all his Footprints when he flashed without exporting them to his SD card (using the Export feature of Footprints).
Hope this helps.

How do you use google sync on the hd2? is there an app that I have to download?
Spb backup works great for me too!
Hi, Googlesync involves configuring an Exchange server at the address m.google.com in ActiveSync on your phone. It will then treat your GMail as an Exchange Server and you will have options on what to sync. Here is the info at Google: http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138636&topic=14299. 2 key points noted by Google; Back up Calender and contacts first (I suggest MyPhone) and don't try and sync tasks.
Regards.

But using export, you have to do it one by one. Is there a way to export all the footprints?
I found that it is easier just to restore the footprint folder content and all my stuff is back.
By the way, I just learnt that HD2 came bundled with Sprite Backup! At least in the HK versions. I don't know why HTC hasn't talked about it anywhere. It is sitting on my SD card and I never knew that it was there.

Yes, you can restore the foorptints folder, if you have backed it up to start with. That hadn't occurred to my friend
Good stuff
I want to back up my HD2 (full backup). Any software that works to restore everything as it was, e.g. contacts, sms, email account, facebook links with contacts, cab files, quicklinks etc?

Just make sure to copy all the files on your phone to a backup location
Or try PIM Backup: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
use spb movilbiles
SPB backup is the best, for me.
All full backup apps can have attendant problems if used from one flash ROM to another (ie not just a reflash of the same ROM).
They carry over file associations, registry settings etc and I believe contribute to instability issues.
So be aware and use them at your own risk.
For everything else (PIM, texts, browser favourites etc) MyPhone is sweet.
SPB Backup has an option to restore after a ROM upgrade. Though this doesn't work flawlessly (e.g. not all shortcuts were retrieved and had to be created manually) it does do the important things.
I have always used SPB Backup, never had an issue.
I use Microsoft Myphone. I dont get what the issue with it is. I dont both backing up texts as last time I did it was boring waiting for 4000 texts to restore back to the phone. I store all pics/music on my memory card so its only a case of contacts, bookmarks, calendar etc. All my FB links seems to magically reappear as well. I think this might be something to do with the Facebook tab though. *Credit to who ever built it*
I know im a newb. But how do you restore from my phone. Im new to windows mobile. I lost all contacts, calendar entries, etc. I saved to microsoft my phone, but how to restore? Also backed up to a few other outlets but cant figure out howto restore any of them. LOL
Sprite Backup for me. http://www.spritesoftware.com/
It's perfect, backups anything you want, including SD card. Using this with my Samsung Omnia sometimes gave an error in the report (although it didn't have effect on installing my backup!) but with the HD2 it doesn't even give this error. Backing up is easy, just set preferences and run it! The backup is an exe-file that you run from your device or SD card after you've done a hard reset. It basically saved my life several times after having to do hard resets!
right first things first ive done a few searches and coldnt find anything
I would like to know what you guys use to back up your phone. Im mainly after backing up my sms inbox, contacts and installed apps and settings. Ive had to factory reset my phone twice in the passed week lol lost everything and now have it tweeked to my liking now. so I best back up everything asap incase
thanks for any replies

I'm with this guy....I use Microsoft "My Phone" too....I like to mess with my phone and this program syncs everything that I need and stores it online. I can even access and make changes from my PC if I feel the need. Everytime I change my ROM I just sync it up and all my contacts, calendar etc are back on the phone!
Seem those guys never upgrade their phone, uh!
Every time you have to re-enter all config stufs (e.g. e-mails accounts & passwords, connections settings, and so on); everything can be saved by ActiveSync or My Phone EXCEPT those specific configs!!!
I just found CeRegistryEditor (link to ceregeditor.mdsoft.pl/?lang=en): it allows to backup & compare registry entries with file(s) by using ActiveSync connection.
Everytime you add/change some specific settings just compare entries with previously saved one and save it with mnemonic name; once you re-initialize your phone just load all saved keys, of course without forgetting to re-install all related programs, if needed!
Your phone will be just as you want in a couple of minutes. That's it!
rg,
Stefano
Definitely SPB Backup.
Give that a shot... it's a costly bit of software... but completely worthy.
Sprite Backup is a must for anyone, especially for those who wants to do some tweaking.
sprite back up
Exactly 12 hours ago my Leo 's sence stopped launching and I was in a horrible time.I had collected 79 nice opera bookmarks and doing a hard reset should clean all of them !
spb back up was not the solution ,cause it can't back up favourites.and Microsoft my phone couldn't sync cause the wi-fi was dead ! so I beamed up Sprite back up tool from my old Hd .
and it selected percisely what I wanted...I think spb phone plus or suit has the same function for backing up favourites but SPRITE is perfect.
I want to back up my hd2 too, can anyone tell me how to use Activesync for backing up plz
Hi,
i think you can't use AS for backup. You could copy all the user-data and programm folders but not the registry entries. You need special backup software for this purpose. I know Spb Backup and Sprite. Although i ve registered bith i mainlay use Spb because it works better for me. I think it is worth his money.

Re: HD2 backup
Personally I store everything on the storage card - and use Jeyo Mobile Companion to backup and restore contacts, sms, call history etc prior to flashing... works like a charm...
And in conjunction with Microsoft My Phone - never lost anything so far... even able to recover my business mobile while roaming...

As with Android you need to set up a GMail account, so you can access the app market.
Set up a new exchange e-mail account on your WinMo phone - Use the details you used in the GMail account. Once it is set up, the GMail account will pick up your contacts when you sync the phone (via the phone's Activesync).
When you go into Android sync your Gmail account.
PIM Backup.

if you use hotmail, just use activesync/exchange connection on your android
I got a question, when you install the wp7 on the HD2, do you also lose files from the internal memory? like the camera software or the album software or everything from internal memory?
so which backup file can i use to save all those folders and files?
I tried SPB.
Downloaded it ok.
Ran it ok.
Then at the end of the process it crashed the phone.
Booted but sense wouldn't load at all. Start worked but irratic and laggy, settings didn't open.
Tried numerous soft resets but nothing worked.
Did a hard reset and used Microsoft MyPhone to restore contacts, tasks, SMS and calendar all perfect apart from havingbto resync contacts with facebook.
I did have to download all my apps and mods again and confit email etc. A real pain but didn't loose anything valuable,
MyPhone very useful and free.

Hello,
I use spb backup for over a year and it works more that perfect.
Maybe you are doing something wrong (although I can not imagine what can go wrong in such an easy installation). I have used it for numerous backups and restores. No problem at all. Spb Backup is Highly Recommended.
Regards,
John
What do you guys use to backup your SMSes &/or call logs? I found these two:
SMS Backup - backs up your messages to a Gmail label:
http://lifehacker.com/5458083/back-up-your-sms-messages-to-a-gmail-label-on-android
SMS Backup & Restore - backs up your messages to an XML file on the SD card:
http://www.trickyways.com/2010/09/how-to-sms-backup-and-restore-on-android-phones
Anyone use any of these or recommend something else for backup?

I'm not rooted, I'd prefer to stay stock if possible.
I use SMS backup. It does not give me any problems. All you got to do is enter your gmail account and password once and it does the rest.
Just found this one too, SMS Backup+:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/sms-backup/com.zegoggles.smssync
Looks like its been updated more recently than the other one. Anyone use this one?
I use XArchive. Very simple, very easy to use.
http://www.absolutelyandroid.com/app-review-xarchive/
If you use the paid version of Handcent, they offer online backup of settings and SMS. I'm not sure about how much they want for it.
I love SMS Backup and Restore. Simple and does exactly what I want.
You can try MyBackup Pro. Don't know what it costs now. I caught it for .99 cent a while back.
Sent from my new BFF...Evo 4G that is!
I use WaveSecure to back up SMS, contacts and locate my phone if lost
https://www.wavesecure.com/
SMS Backup & Restore. It's free and saves your texts into a nice xml file.
A few more questions:
1.) The ones that put texts in Gmail, do they create a thread for each text or put a certain number in a conversation or how does that work? I text a lot, so that might get hairy quick.
2.) The options that automatically backup - is there a service running at all time or does the backup occur at an interval? I'd hate to lose battery by something connecting to Gmail every time I got a text, rather than bulk upload or scheduling.
3.) Finally, if manually backing up, is each backup incremental or is a whole new XML or new Gmail conversation created? Is the software smart enough to know what was backed up previously?
4.) MMS supported?
Thanks for the help folks, and keep the suggestions rolling!
I'm loooking for something similar as well. I've tried several different apps from the marketplace, and a few did their piece well, but didn't do everything I want. I've tried Titanium Backup, and to be honest, I don't really like it. "Backup Everything" does a pretty good job for everything except generic files (SMS, MMS, Phone logs = ok, Files {angry birds data} it can't do), although I'd like to be able to automate it. I've been using Astro to handle backing up of apps because I'd rather back them up seperately from the data.
Contacts, calendar & mail messages don't matter because they're on my Exchange server, so the SMS, MMS phone logs and angry birds data is really all I need to back up. To SD is fine, Dropbox wouldn't hurt though. Does anyone have any suggestions for an app that fits my needs?
Now that myPhone has closed, is there a way to backup and restore my SMS and MMS messages? SkyDrive is no help at all. I have all other data and my email safely backed up.
I have found an application called 'PPCPIMBackup' which was designed for WM5. Does anyone have any experience with this? I also have Sprite Backup and the backup utility in SKTools. I have a licence for SPB Backup.
My messages are critically important to me and the threaded version on my HD2 is extremely helpful. If I can't restore them after a reset, I'm in trouble. Unfortunately, that's just what I need to do. I can't afford to make a mess of this and so I haven't experimented with what I have yet.
Any help will be appreciated. If anyone has backed up their SMS, reset their HD2 and restored their messages successfully, I like to hear from them before I go further. I have read what I have found here but have found no mention of a successful outcome.
I have only had my HD2 for just over a year and Microsoft and HTC seem to be determined to turn it into a brick. If anyone is looking at Phone 7 devices I'd say 'beware'. Will Microsoft drop support for your phone?
I can recommend pimbackup. I use it after flashing ROM's. Works fine.
Edit: I have only used it on SMS msg's. No MMS experience.
I used spb backup and it also works fine.
Sent from my HTC HD2
Thank you for your replies.
My SMS are most important. I can live without my MMS.
Does SPB backup allow restoration of SMS alone after a full reset?
yes i think it does. sorry it's over 1 year now that i used wm on my hd2. but you can just make a backup and go to the restore menu before you reset your device. then you can see and be sure that you can restore only your messages.
but as far as i remember this is possible. i think you even can chose only to backup messages and not everything.
SPB will backup all sms mms 100% perfectly using the mail backup function.
This backs up email too & can not be sellected individually.
Have used SPB for over 5 years & have not lost any messages or PIM in that time.
Free PimBackup app is not that good, no MMS support & only inbox sms is stored (outbox is not, would make threaded sms a bit one sided)
If ultra important I would use both SPB & Sprite for backup.
Another good software for sms & contact backup is iMobile sms-contact backup (has PC app viewers which can be handy & supports unicode characters correctly)
Thank you all. I'm going to make backups with everything suggested.
Your comments have cheered me now that I know I stand a good chance of success. I thought I was stuck after the demise of myPhone.
I would press the 'thanks' button if only I could find it.
You can use any one of these to backup and restore your SMS: -
1. PPC PIM Backup
2. iMobile Backup Suite
3. SK Tools
4. SPB Backup
5. 91 PC Suite for WM
I use PPC PIM Backup regularly and have used it to restore my SMS & Contacts without any problems.
iMobile Backup Suite too is very reliable and simple to use. It gives you "export to text" option too.
91 PC Suite for WM has export to CSV/XML options which too are easy to use for backup/restore.
