[Q] SMS Backup solution? - Epic 4G General

What do you guys use to backup your SMSes &/or call logs? I found these two:
SMS Backup - backs up your messages to a Gmail label:
http://lifehacker.com/5458083/back-up-your-sms-messages-to-a-gmail-label-on-android
SMS Backup & Restore - backs up your messages to an XML file on the SD card:
http://www.trickyways.com/2010/09/how-to-sms-backup-and-restore-on-android-phones
Anyone use any of these or recommend something else for backup?

I'm not rooted, I'd prefer to stay stock if possible.

I use SMS backup. It does not give me any problems. All you got to do is enter your gmail account and password once and it does the rest.

Just found this one too, SMS Backup+:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/sms-backup/com.zegoggles.smssync
Looks like its been updated more recently than the other one. Anyone use this one?

I use XArchive. Very simple, very easy to use.

If you use the paid version of Handcent, they offer online backup of settings and SMS. I'm not sure about how much they want for it.

I love SMS Backup and Restore. Simple and does exactly what I want.

You can try MyBackup Pro. Don't know what it costs now. I caught it for .99 cent a while back.

I use WaveSecure to back up SMS, contacts and locate my phone if lost
https://www.wavesecure.com/

SMS Backup & Restore. It's free and saves your texts into a nice xml file.

A few more questions:
1.) The ones that put texts in Gmail, do they create a thread for each text or put a certain number in a conversation or how does that work? I text a lot, so that might get hairy quick.
2.) The options that automatically backup - is there a service running at all time or does the backup occur at an interval? I'd hate to lose battery by something connecting to Gmail every time I got a text, rather than bulk upload or scheduling.
3.) Finally, if manually backing up, is each backup incremental or is a whole new XML or new Gmail conversation created? Is the software smart enough to know what was backed up previously?
4.) MMS supported?
Thanks for the help folks, and keep the suggestions rolling!

I'm loooking for something similar as well. I've tried several different apps from the marketplace, and a few did their piece well, but didn't do everything I want. I've tried Titanium Backup, and to be honest, I don't really like it. "Backup Everything" does a pretty good job for everything except generic files (SMS, MMS, Phone logs = ok, Files {angry birds data} it can't do), although I'd like to be able to automate it. I've been using Astro to handle backing up of apps because I'd rather back them up seperately from the data.
Contacts, calendar & mail messages don't matter because they're on my Exchange server, so the SMS, MMS phone logs and angry birds data is really all I need to back up. To SD is fine, Dropbox wouldn't hurt though. Does anyone have any suggestions for an app that fits my needs?

Backing Up Contact's?

I used the "Serch Fourm Threads" but there was nothing as specific as some one just explaining like 4-5 steps on how to do it..
I would really really appreciate it if some one can take like 10min out of there time to show me a program to use to back up my contatcs bc i need to hard-reset my phone, then once hard-reset do something and my contacts will be restored..
I use ppcpimbackup. It's free and it backs up most of the data on your cell phone (i.e., call logs, etc.)

Get program, install it and make the backup file, "hard-reset" install the program again and open the backup file and it will apply my contacts to what they were?

Dashwire
I've been using a really neat online backup system called DashWire. Haven't messed with it all that much, but it basically installs a small application to your phone which then sends all contacts, text messages, videos, photos, etc. to your online account. I haven't tried restoring anything but it looks really cool. Oh, and it's free.
What i do is i use windows live, when i first got my phone i went to hotmail.com signed up for the email service for my phone only.
I put everyone email and other information in, i went to my phone and went to windows live sync and next thing u know all my contacts are on my phone. hope this helps
I use outlook.

backup solution

Hey guys. i'm about to dive into toasts rooting method and that raises the question of backup. currently i'm running titanium backup but i'm not sure if it also backs up my contacts, call logs and SMS history.
what do you guys recommend i use as a full backup solution?
thanks!
Spritebackup or titanium... sprite is more user friendly while titanium is more custom imo
Um using titanium..very nice

You can export your contacts from your contacts address book, push menu >> import/export. Otherwise, as long as you saved your contacts to Google instead of Phone..they will come right back once you log into Google.
I backup my SMS messages with an app called sms backup by Christoph Studer. You can backup all your messages to gmail. They won't transfer back to the phone...but that isn't something I would do anyway. The messages are accessible through gmail after using this... plus it is automated once you set it up!

I've used it and it good. It will back up everything sms and all. I use titanium back and sms backup. The good thing abought titanium is you can back up updated apps one at a time after the have updates not the whole thing. MybackupPro you have to backup everything again and that can get old.
Try out wave secure as well....
I am looking for a backup application that will backup to my PC whenever I plug in the data cable. Does anyone know of an application like that?

[Q] Backup & Restore Programs for the Tilt 2

I have been using Microsoft Myphone to backup & restore my contacts, calendar, & text messages on my Tilt 2 & I love it but just found out that it is no longer working & I was wondering what backup & restore programs you all are using & the ones you like best. The most important things that I want to be able to backup & restore are my contacts, calendar, & text messages.I really liked using MyPhone because I was able to go to their website & sign in & could see along w/edit all of my contacts & calendar & also could see & reread the text messages I had saved.I'd really like to find another program that is like MyPhone if at all possible.
I did find something called M:IQ that seems to be similar to MyPhone & what I am looking for.Has anyone tried this program or using it now? If so is it any good & how do you like it? Also is it easy to use?
Any help you all could give me is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I used to use Lookout Mobile Security to back up text messages and call log. You could also use PIM Backup for that. An easier way would be top sync with Gmail via Exchange. It will backup tasks, calendar, contacts, and mail. Task sync was hit and miss for me, though.

try funamobl works perfect. it takes some time to find the right link to download and to figure it out but once you do it is easy.
I use Pandapp PC Suite for WM. It backs up my call log, contact, etc. But doesn't backup programs though. It's almost as if I never flashed my phone each time I did.

I have been using Sprite Back-up 6.5.5 build 11 for awhile now and have no complaints. I have my entire phone backed up on my SD card. Has saved me a few times. Lots of options for back-up with the Sprite. Cannot find anything comparable.

[Q] Is there a tool to save "As is" to help restore

I love modding but hate having to enter my passwords, load the apps again, set the ring tones and calendar reminder tones etc etc.
I am looking for a way to save all that info, so that when I load a new ROM I can run the app and Google is there and has my passwords. My 3 email accounts are set up and ready to go. Ring tones and reminder alerts are set up. Home screen is set up. etc etc etc
A tall order I know, but there are a lot of modders and I am sure they are just as frustrated, or maybe they have the solution already??
Please share if you do! Many thanks in advance.
I'll answer my own question, after reading some of the posts on this and other places.
I believe that the Backup program included with MIUI Darkside mod will do what I want if I select System and App backups.
There is also Titanium backup which is an all singing and dancing app that does the same. For now I am trying the included free Backup.
I will report back if it does what I wanted on my next Mod.
Thanks for reading.
Mybackup Root is a consideration. That is what I use for going between ROMs.
You have APKs + data if you want, and then you also have a data section just for mms etc... but I have never used that, I just sync contacts with google and forget the rest.
Not sure of the difference between MyBackup Root and pro versions but root is free ...
At any rate, with a couple of clicks I can just leave the app restoring everything ... you could try it along with your other backup, doesn't cost you anything ..
I find it fast and less cumbersome than Titanium although I only used the free version.

[Q] Best (free) way to transfer SMS from Evo3d to S4 ~thanks!

Hello Everyone,
I am making the switch from an evo3d to a new S4 and I can not figure out how to import my SMS export file from the evo3d.
Is there not a way to do this without installing apps? If I need to install something what works best? I have tried to figure it out and have searched xda with no luck ( I have just found iphone specific stuff).
Thanks!

SMS Backup+ works really well for me. It backs up your texts to gmail and will allow transfer from gmail to a new device. I transitioned from my Evo3D to my S4 without any difficulty.
I use an app called "super backup". Backs up SMS and call logs as well as bookmarks and calendars.
I use go backup.
It lets me have the backup on drop box or Google drive

Titanium Backup Pro. It will be the best investment you've come across for our phones.
Thank you Everyone!
I just used Super Backup that gharlane00 recommended. The fact that it was made by an XDA member was pretty cool. It was quick and easy to migrate SMS, Call logs, Calendar, and Contacts. I am not sure the best way to do app data now...for example my GF has a good draw something run going and I dont want her to lose her stuff...nor my Plants versus Zombies standing , lol...
Again thank you to everyone for there help!:highfive:
This https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore worked so well I bought it. Just adust the settings so it saves to external SD card and import on the new phone and you're good to go. Don't forget to change settings in the new phone's SMS program to not auto delete texts and it will keep a long history of texts. Backs up to XML. Sometimes there are duplicate messages but that's not a big deal. I periodically back up my texts to card then delete them to free up resources. Highly rated app.
wonitys and
Have you tried the smart switch?
