I'm posting here the copies of AMSS that I have extracted from various ROMs, they are basically the same version (AABBQMLYM129005) but are all slightly different.
To install one of these, extract it from the 7z file, this will give you something like amss.mbn-162, rename this to amss.mbn and copy it to the /cust_backup/image folder on your phone. You can do this from a running system, from recovery (it's /cust/image in that case), or from the bootloader (pink screen).
I'm using amss.mbn-162 and it seems to work well.
AMSS is the Advanced Mobile Subscriber Software that runs on the ARM9 CPU in our phones, it is a complete embedded OS using the L4 microkernel and controls the RF interface, power management and some other things so is quite important.
hey dzo, thanks for the share mate, but can you put what this does in layman's terms? From what I gather, it controls RF, power mgmt etc but is this through manual intervention or does the software automatically optimize settings for these?

Ok I'm not an expert but afaik:
AMSS is the Qualcomm radio software (radio/baseband). Using wrong AMSS might 'cause problems with finding network etc. (e.g. using Asian AMSS in Europe) If you are experiencing problems with network it could be AMSS problem or RIL problem. I think it might be wise to use your own providers newest amss.mbn, 'cause then you shouldn't get problems and I haven't seen any improvement when changing it to different. I have never exprienced any problems with different AMSS, but I don't see any point in using other AMSS.
thanks for the clarification Pelemane. My 3G data sometimes works and sometimes doesn't and sometimes my phone drops out so I may try this to see if it fixes the problem
I remember I run a binary diff between B138 and B162, their AMSS should be the same.

Unlikely...........
I did have crappy signal strength on my phone and it would often lose network coverage without giving any indications (didn't show the no signal icon or say No Service). I was using the B137 mongolia amss as that was the last official rom I installed. Since using the official B138 Estonia rom I'm using the B138 amss and I have absolutely no issues with signal since.
So in my case changing amss does help.

could u share more of ur experience with this rom?
What exactly have you changed with this rom? Why did you choose the Desire rom? First up you need a new /system/build.prop then you need to edit the /META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script.orig file so it flashes stuff to the right locations. Then you need to change the ro.product.device so it matches the build.prop file. Then to top it off the bravo uses the MTD partitioning scheme but the u8800 uses the EMMC partitioning scheme. So to put it simply, the rom will not work without many changes.
Yeah it also seems to have modules built for 2.6.35.9 (including a bcm4329 driver whereas this phone uses a Qualcomm RF chip, I believe WCN1312).
atleast some work is going On
Updated the ROM, should work now- Can anyone test?

Hi
I heard somewhere that flashing the JPK (only JPK not the others) with bootloaders will give better results.
Bootloader of JPK and JPQ are the same, and I have got the same results with JPQ bootloader as the older ones. For instance, the crackling sound at unlocking the screen while playing music in the background is still present... Anyway, I think things like that are independent from the bootloader, but my curiosity drove me to test it

I want to know will running processor on a 800Mhz Clock Frequency effect the processor or Phones' chips life? Even if phone life will be affected by 0.1% please tell me. Or it is perfectly a recommended frequency?Also why cant my 5801 run Live wallpapers perfectly whenever Live Wlppr is used along side a app the app force closes and there are lots of lags in the phone? Please answer soon.Thanks in advance.
clarkkov said:
OCing the CPU or any other part of hardware will shorten the hardware component life because of higher operating temperature. It's hard to say is this particular SG3 hardware made to operate at 667MHz or is this frequency designated by Samsung to save battery life and to place this device in the low end of the market. There are rumors that SG3 CPU is designed to run at 800MHz.
Live wallpapers run fine on this firmware, you must have done something wrong when enabling them or you're using faulty live wallpaper. The lag will occur in any SG3 ROM as the CPU is not potent enough to run live wp with any other app (OC to 1000MHz if you want to avoid lags, you can also try other launchers, like ADW or LP instead of TWiz to reduce the lag).

There's a firmware update released at 2011-12-28 for U8800+ Synaptics touchscreen, the offcial staff/moderator said there're no side effect to apply this update on U8800, official thread: http://bbs.huaweidevice.com/cn/forum/index.php?app=forum&mod=Detail&act=index&id=34559 (chinese language, need register to download)
目的:修正U8800+ 触摸屏卡顿问题
适用范围:仅适用U8800+
升级前请仔细阅读《U8800+触摸屏固件升级指导》
升级方法:
1.1 准备一张SD卡,剩余空间至少50M,同时确保手机电池电量剩余50%以上;
1.2 在SD卡根目录下建立一个文件夹,命名为update;
1.3 将synaptics.img复制到update目录下;
1.4 手机关机,将SD卡插入手机SD卡槽;
如果升级过程中 出现 E:update failed" 说明您的手机不需要升级该 firmware,选择“reboot system now” 按电源键重新启动手机即可;

brief translation:
fixed: 'laggy' issue of U8800+ touchscreen
applied: to U8800+ only
steps:
1. prepared a SD card with at least 50M remaining spaces, make sure battery capacity have 50%+
2. make an "update" directory under the root of SD card
3. copy synaptics.img to that "update" directory
4. power off, and put SD card to phone
5. hold Vol+ and power button to boot into recovery mode, choose "touchscreen firmware update"
6. after update done, reboot
if you got "E:update failed" error message, it means your phone need not update, just choose “reboot system now”
Can you apply this update to both .32 & .35 kernels?
Sorry, I can't confirm it, no official document about this, most people use Android 2.3 to update this, but I saw few people apply on Android 2.2. ( see #58 reply of this feedback thread: http://bbs.huaweidevice.com/cn/forum/index.php?app=forum&mod=detail&act=index&id=34637&p=3 ). My phone does not have 'laggy' issue, I didn't apply this update, I just reply blueberetdb5's question for his Synaptics touchscreen.

This file is an optimized version of gps.conf for Portugal that allows faster gps locking by using servers and configurations specific for Portugal.
Instalation:
Case 1 - Before new ROM is installed
Open the zip file of the ROM and put the gps.conf file inside the /system/etc folder, replacing the original file. Install ROM zip as usual.
Case 2 - After ROM is already installed
With any file manager that has access to system folder (like rootexplorer), copy the file to /system/etc/, replacing the existing file. Reboot.
Note: I'm not the author of the file, but I don't remember where I got it... all credits to its creator
you can also try fasterfix from the market to set localisation information in the GPS.conf file.

You must extract the file from gps.zip then replace the one in \etc\gps.conf then reboot your device and try it. If it don't work maybe it is not compatible. For instance, I'm using Aurora last version on my u8800 with a internet data plan and I don't need to tweak nothing it works great from install without modifieing nothing. Try with a active data plan to see if it works better/quicker.
Rom zip is if you'll instal a new rom you can extract the content of gps.zip to the new rom zip and flash all together. Hope to had helped you.

[MOD][V3.1][06/07/12] 26.13.04.19 Radio lib-ril/gps .so updater-CM9 & AOKP based ROMs
FOR CM9, ANDROMADUS & AOKP BASED ROMS
IMPORTANT UPDATE: Update to Version 3.1 Why? I have done some research on flashing radio images and found some interesting information. Apparently there are 2 files that pertain to radios in the RUU releases, a radio.img and a rcdata.img. We all have been flashing only the radio.img file but the rcdata.img contains further carrier information that directly relates to information in the build.prop file. I have put together a new 26.13.04.19 radio zip file that contains both the radio.img and the rcdata.img. The .img files were taken directly from the latest T-Mobile RUU release. This new radio/rcdata zip needs to be flashed through bootloader just like you flashed a radio in the past. As usual, you''ll need to rename the zip file to PC10IMG.zip before you reboot into bootloader. Check the MD5 Sum after you download the file to your sdcard to make sure it matches the following:
MD5 Sum: 360EA26286DEC39FC8008B266F470839
DOWNLOAD VISION_RADIO_RCDATA_12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19.zip
MIRROR: http://www.mediafire.com/?vdecstne5uuvuxn
I have also updated information in the build.prop patcher with the proper information to match the information in the rcdata.img. This is now Version 3.1. After you flash the radio/rcdata img from the above link through bootloader, download the latest version 3.1 and flash through recovery along with the EFS wipe.
Several months ago T-Mobile released it's latest update for the G2. The OTA update contained new radio firmware and updated ril library files. Many of us running CM7 that flashed the .19 radio and matched the updated lib-ril files that were contained in this release found improvements in performance and most noticeably an improvement in battery life. It was later incorporated into Tsubus' ILWT CM7 ROM. You can find the CM7 lib-ril matching thread here and read users comments after updating the files.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1335127
I have compiled a new mod for CM9 & AOKP based ICS ROMS that should offer similar results. This has been tested with CM9, Andromadus and AOKP builds.
ATTENTION: I am not responsible if you brick your phone or if it starts a fire in your apartment by using this mod! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!
Procedure:
If you are not running the .19 radio along with the latest rcdata.img, download from the above link. If you need further flashing instructions get them here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970809
Make a complete backup with recovery.
Download the updater and flash through recovery. This will patch your build.prop file and update your radio ril and gps .so files. Many thanks to GinoAMelone for supplying the code to patch the build.prop file without having to replace it.
Download Version 3.1 - 26.13.04.19 Radio - ril and gps .so updater for CM9 based ROMS
MIRROR: http://www.mediafire.com/?6ausxuv6ppxhs0m
IMPORTANT: While you are in recovery, wipe your cache and dalvick cache and wipe the efs partitions by flashing the Vision EFS partition wipe tool.
Download EFS Partition Wipe Tool
http://www.mediafire.com/?rcdmtauld5mp27t
Reboot your device and you're good to go.
NOTE: At first boot, it might take a little longer than usual for you to connect to your local towers since you've wiped your radio data and the efs partitions need to be re-populated with the new data. This also means you'll need to be outside and wait several minutes for a new gps lock as the new data is obtained from the satellites.
Don't forget to hit the thanks button if this works out for you!
OK just tried it and all is working well now. I used the files put them in the correct places and the gps didnt work. Then I flashed the file in your op and the installation aborted, BUT my gps is working now. I dont know how though.

Will this work for the unofficial CM9 ROM? Also, thank you for doing this again. When i matched .so files on CM7.2, that was the first time i ever managed to eliminate the constant battery drain that i would always suffer from when using CM7. I hope that now we can see similarly amazing battery life on CM9 .
Also, would i be able to push those files to their respective directories through ADB? Or is it better to just use root explorer for copying them to where they're meant to go?
Tried it with [ROM][02-05-12][ICS|CM9] CyanogenMod 9.0.0-RC0 BETA 3 [Unofficial].
Signal was better before using those RILs so i restored my old ones.

If matching the radio drivers (that were released at the same time with the radio firmware) is giving you a worse signal this could be evidence that you are using the wrong radio with your particular carrier in France. The .19 radio was released by T-Mobile USA. You might want to try the radio released with the latest Desire Z AOSP ROM by your carrier if you encounter other issues such as echos in calls, dropped calls with call waiting etc. Sorry this didn't work out for you but thanks for giving it a go!

This should work for any ICS ROM that is CM9 based. Right now I'm getting battery life as good as I was getting with CM7 with the matched .so files and my GPS locks quick with NMEA strings and 9-11 satellites in view. Data switching handshakes are very quick, seemingly more quickly than CM7.
ADB will work fine. Anyway you get those files over to your system folders is OK. I've actually opened up the ROM zip folders before flashing and moved them there that way, but I believe you have to have an ENG H-boot, which I have, to flash an unsigned ROM.
Do I delete the previous files because it asks me to overwrite the file

I'm using file expert, when I copy and paste the build.prop from ur file
I used this since the other day and I havent been able to put m phone down! Everything works and gps locks faster which has been super useful for my day you dont even know!
Thanks for all the work and these awesome new files!
After matching the ril files, I'm seeing great battery life and strong signal!

That's great news! I appreciate the feedback. Confirmed working on Andromadus Beta 3.

And the test build copy of andromadus beta 3 (Flinny66)
well for me it works only in some way... battery life is great and all but: signal strength is always six bars = full (on andromadus six bar mod) and two bars on the 5 bars setting... settings show signal str of 0 dbm and 97 asu... no matter if im in city centre or in, lets say bunker... any ideas how to fix this?

I'm getting the same exact thing. Never bothered to check before. Is this problem new after updating the files?

rild.libpath=/system/lib/libhtc_ril.so
ro.telephony.ril.v3=signalstrength
have been removed from build.prop
and replaced with
rild.libpath=/system/lib/librilswitch.so
rilswitch.vendorlibpath=/system/lib/libhtc_ril.so
rilswitch.ganlibpath=/system/lib/libganril.so
afaik all of the ganril stuff and rilswitch is only used by wifi calling (that doesn't work anyway)
the ro.telephony.ril.v3=signalstrength bit missing is why your signal strength is not updating though.
