question reguarding overclock rom

hi, i've got a htc wildfire.. well obviously considering i'm posting in this section
anyway, i've installed wildpuzzle 0.8 with the overclocking kernal, what i'm wanting to find out is....
when running setcpu, the cpu will change it's frequency depending on usage.
but what about if setcpu isn't installed and you use the rom to overclock to say 748.. will the cpu stay at 748 permanently, or will it drop down and up natively depending on usage, like setcpu does??

i would say without set cpu or a specific speed framework, it would revert back to standard 528max 480min
which overclocking kernel have you got, be aware that if you have 130 kernel and overclock, wifi hotspot will not work, you can see phone but you won't be able to connect, you need to use 055 kernel from wildpuzzle 8.0.11 thread.
a small side note, i have just recently changed my overclocking from 691max to 652max, no discernable difference in speed, linpack for 691mhz was 2.9, for 652mhz i'm still getting 2.8 mflops, but huuuuge difference in battery life.
691 max struggling to get 2 days, 652 max after 24 hours i still have 82% battery left.

how do you see this mflops thing? and is it like a cpu score?

Download Linpack For Android from the market, and, Yes, in a way, it is like a CPU Score.

[POLL] What's Your Overclocked Speed?

You might have already figured out that HD2 can be overclocked as high as 1.5 GHz on its powerful Qualcomm SnapDragon Processor. Many people run their devices on default clock speed, but there are few of us who overclock their devices to get max out of it. So i have started this thread to know what your max clock speed is and what governer are you using. Post replies below. Also, don't forget to mention your Phone's Temperature if available.

1305MHz using interactive, temp alway @ 28°C even when phone get hot?? tho alway careful to let it cool down when it feels too hot.

I have underclocked ... to 720Mhz (interactive)
Performance is okay and saves battery live
Temperature is about 28 celcius.

1267, 768 when battery less than 30%, 422 when screen is off
On-demand w/screen on, conservative when <30% and screen off
Not great on battery, but good performance an no wake lag
CPU Load jump or whatever it is, set to 30%

Sticks with no overclock
using a rom which is fast enough and saves battery life, Dont see a point that needed to overclock CPU

Undervolted to 576mhz, for better battery life.
Runs smooth enough for all apps, including navigation and games

No overclock for me, don't need it, phone is fast enough as it is.
Clock speed: 998mhz (default), governor: ondemand, temp: n/a
Good enough for me sweet onough on may battery.
P.s. there seems to be no difference(performance wise) between rafpigna kernel oc'd @1.5ghz and tytung kernel oc'd @1.2ghz, when testing on linpack and/or other smarbench tools

SetCPU best speed

Hey everyone, just wanted to post this to see what cpu speed works best for you guys.. Im using these preset things with the program like performance or power saver etc but i dont seem to notice a difference all of them seem to be the exact same.. Wondering how to make it good for like 50% power and 50% performance, basicly balancing the 2 out as long as its better than stalk and not burning out my cpu.. so thanks, let me know what works for you guys as ive heard its slightly different for everyone else

I use the standard "ondemand" governor with a 998max-245min, but the thing I found makes the most difference are the settings under "Advanced".
I use the below "Advanced" settings along with a 245-245 screen off profile.
Seems to get me the best battery and cpu scaling.
It also helps to use an undervolting kernel like Freedom-More.
Try that for a couple days.
NOTE: click the apply button a couple of times (might be bug but they sometimes don't take on 1 button click). Try them as is without "Set on Boot", until you are sure that your phone likes them. Plus, check after a reboot that you verify/reapply them.
Sampling rate: 20000
Up Threshold: 85
Ignore nice load: 0
Powersave Bias: 14

The "presets" are how the cpu scales i'd use "interactive" or "smartassv2" 245 min and max at 998+ then search around for here for various profile set-ups

I'm running the Gingerbread-Evo-Deck 1.3 with a Savaged Zen 2.2.1 CFS HAVS Kernel. I'm also undervolted 50mV, and using the interactive x governor set at 128MHz-768mhz. Running a few other simple tweaks learned from Carhauler, and I've got excellent battery life and great performance.

I currently run mine on an ICS rom & it comes standard with a tiatmat 4.1.0+ kernel & the cpu is running at about 245mhz-1036mhz with smartass governor(I usually set it to smartass v2 but it switches back to smartass haha). My battery life for me is enough to get me thru the day.

Which ICS rom are you running?

I currently running RCMix3d Runny® Sense 3.5. Should I just got with ICS to overclock or just find a kernel that allows it?

Get a new kernal. Try Tiamat 4.1
I have my SetCPU at 128min 1152max smartassV2(i CAN overclock up to 1267) with 1 profile:
Screen Off 128min 245max
My battery life is extremely good.

it depends on your CPU . every CPU has different quality: some cam go up to 900 mHz and some do freeze even at 806 mHz. Julst test it out but remember not to set the frequency at boot ^^
e.g i could go up to 880 mHz with .29 kernel (old mur4ik ROMs) for a few hours.
wih .32 kernel (PCFighter v5) 825 was the maximum
EDIT: smartass v2 is best governor for me

I Thought SmartassV2 was a battery saving governor ?
my quadrant score with REVO is always better on ondemand

yes, I too have put that governor: D

for me smartass2 is best governor and my max cpu frequencu 729MHz, i use SDSL pre-Final, score in quadrant is 1259, and sometimes i oc it to 806MHz, then quadrant score is 1432, on same rom.

Smartassv2 is undoubtedly the best governor, my frecuencies are: min 245mhz and max 768mhz..
Antutu benchmark give me 1932

For me Smartassv2 is the best and my frequency is: min245 and max 806.

Smartassv2.
Min: 122
Max: 806

SmartassV2 with SIO, @122/600 daily use, Performance @245/852 for bench.
Freezes @ 864mhz

I use Smartassv2 min245 and max 729
It's the best for me, also best results with native freq.

Everybody talks about "huge" Quadrant numbers...like >1400 points with similar settings I have.
I get 1060 points with SmartAssV2, CPU Min 245, MAX 729, JIT ON, CompCache OFF, VM size 32.
Can it mean that my CPU is "weaker" then others?

Every cpu is diferent, mine go max to 787 and give 1389 on quadrant, at 729 smartassv2 i get 1193 on quadrant.

yeah mines is getting very weak too i used to get to 1500 for quadrant but now its very low like yours no matter how i set it.......
my cpu can no longer score above 3000................ ZZZZZ OMG next signing of contract is in may OMG

SmartassV2 gives lower scores.
Try with Performance governor, 245/~800mhz,u'll get an higher score

just wondering, where can i get smartass v2? would like to try it, but cant find it. or is it in the cyanogenmod settings of the rom?

If you use performance it will always scale the highest possible eg 806 so it wastes very much battery

Yeah,it's in Cyanogenmod Settings Go to Performance > Cpu Settings (mine is in italian,don't know if it's the right name)
You'll find, on the first option, the available governors.

I have the same PVS CPU than you with 0,9 Volt at 384Mhz and 1,05 Volt at 1,5GHz.
I could undervolt 50mV accross the board; undervolt the lowest frequenz (384Mhz) to 0,73 Volt and overclock the CPU to 2,0Ghz max.
Im running Cyanogenmod with Glitch Kernel and use Trickster Mod for OC and CPU UV.
With Glitch Kernel I can even undervolt the GPU 100mv accross the board with an increased max GPU of 450Mhz.
(More is possible, but I nearly dont play games with my tablet)
With this I get about 8 hours of SOD time with Surfing.
When I'm on a long business trip and use my N7 for (Kindle and pdf) offline book reading I reach something like 13-15hours SOD time.

I know a bit how i can get to know my cpu's pvs stepping, but since you have the same as me, what is it exactly? And is it considered a fast, normal or slow binned cpu?

mine are way lower and im pretty stable, no crashes but i dont' play games
im on ElementalX oc to 1.728ghz
at 38400 >>> im at 77500
at 702000..... 85000
at 102600.......90000
at172800 .... 102500

yup, run that for like 30mins on classic test, should be fine if it doesn't crash

I did that, but with voltages that are stable there, antutu crashes. And with voltages that are antutu stable, my device crashes randomly. I can run the scaling test with very low voltages across the board for more than an hour and it doesnt crash.
With other apps it just crashes.
This is an experimental undervolt that rarely crashes when switching apps:
I dont know which clock speed and its corresponsing voltage is unstable because the clock speed ranges from 384 to 1512 mhz and i dont have a crash log.
So I added 12.5 mV across the board, and this hasnt crashed so far!
But, being the perfectionist that I am, I want the Ultimate Undervolt. Is there a way to see what frequency you are running when it crashes?

I achieve stable 700mV at 1026MHz...
30mins stress run on "stability test" app and on stress run on "setCpu"
At 1134MHz the tablet freezes for the first time when I switch to 7875mV
Isn't it weird??

I dont think the stability test app is working. I could undervolt 1512 mhz to 900mV and have it run stable, but everyday use stable is with 987.5mV
