Hello to all.
I am 2 weeks owner of Acer Iconia A501 32G with following system data:
Acer APN version: 1.164-1
FLEX: 02_COM_GEN1
DEVICE VERSION: 1.0
Controller version: 21010300
CP version: T20
Serial number: XEH6QEN024127013351500
Initially WIFI worked well. I serf about one week. But yesterday i suddenly got that device do not see any WIFI networks - attempting to create manually the network that seen well from neighbor device (Huawei u8230 smart on Android 2.1) did not lead to success.
What i did
1) As my device was rooted with Iconia root application - i unrroot it and check wifi - the same results
2) Search simmilar problems for aceer A500 (dhcp lease file removal from /data/misc/dhcp),
3) did wipe and factory reset
4) Tried to use WIfiFix.apk for A500 - no success.
After wipe as device do not have any defined WOFO networks after activating wifi from "Setting-wireless networks" device even do not attempt to search any nets", after i add one manually it began writing "searching" - but nothing happens
PLease, please help me - id do not want my Iconia to be a brick. withiut wifi it is nothing.
Thanks a lot.
Is 2 weeks outside of your period to return the device? If not, take it back and exchange it. Backup your data to a micro SD card.
If you've tried all the a500 tricks I'm not sure what's left to try. Hopefully another a501 member will know. You might have to send it to Acer themselves.
Many times the wifi problem is caused by incompatible router software. While you would think Acer would take care of this via software upgrade, they do so only for limited routers, apparently.
I just spoke to Dlink, the manufacturer of my router, downloaded updated firmware, works perfectly for two days.

I have 5 different routers at my home, all from different manufacturers, when my wifi problems start i cant connect to any of the routers. Even my android phone tether does not work.
It always fails when trying to get IP. After reboot everything is ok again, and that's just for a day or two, then this happens again.
Thinking about returning A500 and getting Samsung Tab 10.1 :/

Have you tried a double reset on the iconia? I sometimes get a situation where it won't connect to a wifi point, it keeps cycling between connected & disconnected every couple of secs. Usually doing a double reset fixes it for a while.

This might sound kinda dumb, but I had the same issue. I was running stock 3.1 with richartrips custom kernel oc'd to 1.5 on demand. I installed a bit torrent downloader from the market to complement usenet and had an issue that when the tab would go to lockscreen it would totaly disable my wifi until reset. i was afraid that i screwed my tab. I identified that as the most likely culprit due to it being the last thing I installed after the fresh rom install. I unisntalled with no luck. Last resort was reflashing the rom which corrected my issue.
So my advice is look at what programs you have installed/running in background. See if you have any that have a persistant access to wireless and try to adjust there settings or uninstal and then restart your tab. If that doesnt work, if your rooted (or even if not) get into recovery and do a factory reset. Make sure to do a nand backup first.
Hope this helps you out
Hello to all
I checked many routers with the same result. Also check several custom images and now i am on Acer_A501_4.015.07_EMEA_CUS7. Wifi show the same symtops - trying to search and do not finding anything. But i was able to save lof during wifi activation. Please who have some ideas - reply:

Same problem with wifi on a501

Try inserting SIM card with the tablet off. One should never remove and insert SIM's with the tablet on. Messes things up.

i did like that, but after u insert simcard wifi does not find any connections at all. after u take out simcard and make reset wifi starts working again.

I have troubles with this item. The problem is that I can't find any wif hotspots and I can't connect to my notebook as AdHoc, but my friens with Loox 718 connecting without any problems. May be it 's drivers problem. May be someone nows right drives for this WiFi SD card, 'cause there is no drivers for WM2003SE on official cite. Please provide more info if you can. Best regards. Waiting for your response.
Hello, i searched about my problem but i couldn't found anything about it.
I updated to WM6.1 (WM6.1Pro v3.02 (sun_dream))
ROM version: 6.141WWE
Radio version: 1.15.00
Protocol version: 1337.45
If I want to connect to my WIFI, the BA said that the password must have 8 characters and were wrong. But my password ist longer than 10 characters and I got the right one. The encryption is WPA-PSK, or is only WEP with the BA possible ?

you have to get in to settings/connections/network cards and in the connection of your hotspot ot what ever you use you have to click "edit" and there choose your settings.
Hi,
I tried multiple builds, but wifi didn't work at any of them. I found out that most probable reason is inabilty to get MAC address for wifi.
dmesg:
wlan: dhd_preinit_ioctls: can't get MAC address , error=-110
I tired to modify startup.txt, but no results. I found that similar issue was resolved for other htc devices (tilt 2, touch pro 2) by correction of wifi-nvram.txt. I couldn't find that file on builds for hd2.
It would be greate if anyone could you say which file is responsible for setting up MAC address for wifi.. Or what can I try else..
Thanks you!
What radio, wm versions and android versions have you tried? I've tried numerous builds and wifi has worked for almost all of them (if not all). I've had issues with data working but usually not wifi.
Wifi has worked on every build I've used which is 90% of the builds on xda
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
do u know what a radio is ?? I thought so ... search the forum for it and installl and use the latest then try again.
My hd2 is T-mobile US version
My radio is 2.15.50.14
Android build is MDJ FroYoSense -=Revolution=- 1.6 (tried with built in kernel and hastarin's one)
just in case, ROM build is 3.14.531.1 from T-Mobile, but I also tried Miri_Steve0007_Elegancia_V5.0_FINAL with the same results.
Actually I asked a person who doesn't have wifi problems to give me his firmware versions (rom, radio) and tried them by myself on the same android build he has. Results are the same: wifi doesnt'work.
Under WM wifi works good. Here is a link to the similar problem resolved for touch pro 2, tilt 2 and other devices: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-695230.html
Thanks!

you may have forgotten to copy bcm drivers when you changed kernels and that can kill your wifi.

No, I have updated bcm4329.ko as described in readme file for kernel. Also I compared dmesg output and adb logcat for different kernels: they look similar.
logcat says: "Failed to disable WPA in the driver" while dmesg says "dhd_preinit_ioctl: Can't get MAC address, errno=-110" for both the kernels..
Thanks!
Just tested with different radios.. Results are still the same..
If wifi wouldn't work in WM, I though that it is a hardware problem.
Any thoughts are welcome!

Yes, but that's only there if you are using MAC filtering in your access point, or you're using multiple Smartphones with the same Android Build.
Just as a test to determine if it's in any way related to security settings in your Access Point, you could try to make your access point unprotected.....so NO WEP or WPA protection, SSID visible, etc.
If that doesn't work either, then I'm lost
Are you using MAC Filtering in your Access Point/Router ??
First time I tried to connect to my Access Point with Android, it didn't work either....untill I realised that the MAC Address on Adroid is NOT the MAC Address of the HD2. When I allowed the MAC Address of the Android Build on my Access Point I had no more trouble connecting, and my WIFI has worked ever since......
Be carefull however, different Android Builds use different MAC Addresses, so when you try a new Android Build you might experience the same issue.
Newer Kernels have an option to specify your own MAC Address during startup of Android.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for answering!

No, MAC filtering is not used. At least at one access point.

I did some more investigations and it seems that the problem might potentially be in wifi timeout settings, because there is a message in log (dmesg).
wlan: dhd_bus_rxctl: resumed on timeout
I downloaded kernel's sources to find out if this is the reason. Again, it is very weird, because wifi works in windows mobile.. Perhaps WM uses longer timeouts..
Another strange dmesg line is
wlan: firmware version: ver
perhaps wifi hardware has not been initialized correctly.. Just in case, below is related set of dmesg lines:
<4>[ 320.937774] wlan: wifi_set_power = 1
<4>[ 320.937835] htcleo_wifi_power: 1

<4>[ 328.065490] wlan: dhdsdio_probe: failed
Thanks again.
Something went wrong when quoting a part of your question concerning the startup.txt file, so for some strange reason my reply is on the 1st page...(at least when I'm looking at your thread).....
Anyway, the MAC Address you can specify in the startup.txt file can be used when you ARE using MAC filtering and/or you have multiple smartphones using the same Android Build.....so you don't have duplicate MAC Addresses on your network.....
As I'm not a developer, I'm not able to help you with your debugging lines....however, if you want to be sure that it's not some kind of security setting, you could try to remove all security from your Access Point, so NO WEP or WPA, SSID visible etc.
If that doesn't work either, then I'm lost
Only time I didn't get a WIFI connection was because of the MAC Filtering in my Access Point. When that was corrected I never had problems getting a connection on WIFI.
Good luck.
Pappagallo,
I tried to turn off all security, but no effect. Anyway, thank you for the advice I just don't know to to try else...
Another suspicious line in dmesg is wlan: firmware version: ver.
It seems that wifi is not initialized correctly in Android... It would be interesting to see this line for devices with working wifi.. But to do that terminal emulator or android sdk are needed..
Can anybody show dmesg and logcat when wifi is turned on? I would be very appreciated.
Thank you in advance!

Having a fault (update failed (1) )
Please help
I recently purchased one of those Chinese Android head unit to replace the stock Honda factory stereo (6-disc CD) in my 2008 Honda CR-V. This unit was sold on Amazon and the seller actually included the necessary bracket/frame to replace the original factory stereo. It was marketed as "Android 10 Car Radio for Honda CRV 2007-2011, 9 Inch Touch Screen 2G RAM 32G ROM Stereo Bluetooth WiFi GPS FM Support Mirror Link with Dual USB."
From what I could extract from the various screens, my HU is:
FF-5000 (Alps) as reported by Google
HMI: JC.D.Q.F.3.01.2021.05.21.08.30
MCU: TS907.190518(H)
Build number:
full_8227L_demo-userdebug 10 011019 1571038753 userdebug
Custom build version:
alps-mp-01.mp5
Kernel version
3.18.79 (gcc version 6.3.1 20170404 (Linaro GCC 6.3-2017.05))
The actual installation went fine with a reverse camera (I had "professional help") but I ran into three issues with the operational aspects of the HU.
Issue #1: I had logged into my Google account to access the Play Store, and it required me to enter a 4 digit PIN. This led to the PIN being stuck on the HU even when I had removed my Google Play account and each time the HU reboots or when I start the car, it prompts me to enter the PIN. A search here on XDA yielded some posts about installing a third-party app to remove the PIN settings which were hidden (see https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/remove-lock-screen-from-android-head-unit.3929076/post-85394787) but I couldn't find the aforementioned app and in the end, I was able to resolve the PIN enabled lock screen by doing a full factory reset/recovery. This was done by tapping the screen with FIVE fingers while the HU was booting up and having it to to "ROM recovery mode."
Issue #2: My unit seems to have really bad FM radio reception; it doesn't seem to pull in any stations at all. The seller had me try changing the "IC Type" in the hidden settings but none worked. Did anyone had any issues with the poor radio reception and what did you had to do resolve it? Replace the unit with a new one? Buy an amplifier? The cables to the FM antenna are connected.
Issue #3: Because of the PIN and poor FM radio reception issue, the seller recommended that I update the firmware and he sent me the firmware (only took several attempts). The filename was "8227L_8众越创UI军灿-国外10_v20_20210521.zip" and there were two files in the zip: 8227L-8.bin and 8227L-8.upd. The seller kept saying to copy it to a SD card and install but the head unit has NO SD card slot. There is a USB cable (two, actually) provided and trying multiple SD card readers and adapters and even USB flash drives and formatting them as exFAT, FAT, FAT32 or even NTFS doesn't seem to work. When I plug in the SD card or USB flash drive and tap the screen while it's booting up, the message on the screen says:
detected
Fail, please check usb and files...
So what does this actually mean? Does it imply that it found a USB flash drive/SD card but can't read it? This part is the most frustrating aspect trying to figure out why I can't get the damn firmware updated because it doesn't seem to recognize the USB SD/flash drive connection. Do I even need to update the firmware in the first place, with what I currently have or is mine outdated?
One disadvantage of doing the full factory reset/ROM recovery: I lost the "IGO Navigation" app, sample music and video files and not sure what else that came with the unit. Oh well.
Appreciate any help!
Thanks!
Hi there, I'm stuck in the exactly same situation! Let's see if someone can help us.
I had this problem months ago (could not remove Google PIN prompt, did a factory reset, lost iGO navigation). I asked the seller to send me the iGO pack to install it again, but he keeps sending me a newer iGO version that won't launch on my current system. So I thought about updating firmware. The seller sent me the 8227L_最新(一体机用).zip file to update firmware, and I put the two files in the root of a working USB FAT32 pendrive. But when the updating process starts, I get the "please check usb and files message". So yeah, same here.
Hi to all ! I managed to solve my problems with 8227L ALPS 5500 device with new software and with XTRONS branded one. I have a whole post about it:

I had this problem months ago (could not remove Google PIN prompt, did a factory reset, lost iGO navigation). I asked the seller to send me the iGO pack to install it again, but he keeps sending me a newer iGO version that won't launch on my current system. So I thought about updating firmware. The seller sent me the 8227L_最新(一体机用).zip file to update firmware, and I put the two files in the root of a working USB FAT32 pendrive. But when the updating process starts, I get the "please check usb and files message". So yeah, same here.

I lost iGO aswell and manged to obtain that from sellers cloud , ALL ! iGo app was only downloaded from Google playstore, rest is downloaded from cloud (maps - updated till 05/2021, license, etc.). I'm having this on my SD card on MAP slot on device just in case not to loose it again.

In my case the problem was that I was using a Mac to format the pendrive and copy the files. When I changed to a Windows PC, formatted and copied the files, the problem was gone. Cheers
I tried, still the same problem.
My PC is on Windows 10.

Try with SD card formated with FAT 32 sys and default settings if you have slot for SD cards.

I finally succeeded by formatting the USB drive and extracting the zip with my Android smartphone. My windows pc apparently has a problem.

Me pasaba lo mismo, siempre decía "Fail, please check USB and files", al final desde windows quité el check de formato rápido y el dispositivo actualizó.

The same thing happened to me, it always said "Fail, please check USB and files", in the end from windows I removed the quick format check and the device updated.
Gracias! Thanks!

Thanks!

I have the same device. Did you manage to flash the device? Could you please give a valid link to the firmware file?
