hello all, this past weekend I found gingerbread 2.3.4 at samfirmware and put it on my wife's Epic but I don't think she is really happy with it, so she ask if I could put the EC 05 back on is there a way to do this? And if so once sprint sends out the gingerbread update OTA will her phone be able to get it?
Yes, you would need to use Odin to install EC05 back on your Epic. In the Development thread, there is a thread with the instructions and downloads to do it.
Thank you, is there a link to the page

It's one of the first 3-5 threads, as it's stickied. Talks about fixing a bricked phone or something like that.
Go to the development section of the Epic 4G and you'll find what you need with links, videos, screen shots, all the goods.
Before embarking on this Odin journey though, I would suggest getting a better USB cable than the one that came with your phone. It sucks.
EDIT: Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052813
Many thanks my friend.
Don't forget to back up anything you don't want to lose.

Search for RUU and you will find the wisdom you seek.
This needs to be moved to the general section. Not too mention, you need to search first before asking questions that have been asked plenty of times in the past.

Try that fancy new search function.
So "searching" aside.
Why are you wanting to Unroot for 2.1? If you currently enjoy the privledges of Root, this would make no sense.
After the 2.1 update is released - it is more than likely that our asroot2 exploit along with most of the others that have been found will be patched. My guess is HTC has a team of people correcting root exploits as users find them.
Eris for example only has root because of a leaked development version of the rom that still had root in it.
besides all the good info posted above if all you want to unroot for is to move your phone to the new 2.1 official being released, supposedly, on Friday than all you need to do is nothing. The release is most likely going to be an RUU just like the leaked version and that means that when you run it everything on your phone will be wiped. So there you go, if you want official 2.1 on friday, do nothing till friday and then download the release and install it.

As far as the searching goes....since bricking my original Hero I am too afraid to go based on the information scattered in threads so I post my own question because I have in the past discovered that things change and most of the people in this forum are pretty up to date with the current scenario of things. So I ask the question. If I were to reword that question into a statement of confirmation would that have changed the interpretation of it? I have the file downloaded to go back to stock. I just wanted to see if I would have gotten a link to the same file version as me.
As far as going back to stock goes Kcarpenter I am going to be giving this phone to my lovely lady who will in turn let the kids beat on it. She is not into all the r2d2 c3po software and wanted me to put it back the way it was when I first bought it. And yeah you were the one to help me figure out how to flash my Hero. I switch at least twice a day I have no clue which version I am running. Thanks again. I will be back with a Nexus One otherwise I am taking the Samsung Moment for a spin.

Now that the slide has Root and an update, I have a question that may have been asked/answered in previous threads, forgive me in advance (I did a search and could not get an answer)...
Once rooted, will the slide still get the Froyo update?
Also if the phone has to go back for exchange/warranty, is there a way to flash it back to "Stock" as we did with the Samsung BHII?
TIA!
There is a nandroid backup of the stock rom available in the development section of the forum to revert back for warranty, not sure if froyo will goto a rooted slide, but I'm sure the devs will have a 2.2 rom out soon

Wait... There was an update?
This is the one thing keeping me from rooting.
Just back up your stock android rom before rooting so you can restore it. When you get to clockworkmod for the first time create a backup.

½anyone know where to get the RUU of the slide rom, not mixed and modified by a dev or cook?
but the origional rom or lastest version of it.
the nandroid backup will get you back to stock(ish) and if you're rooted with an aftermarket rom, you WILL NOT receive any updates from tmobile.. A couple days after release of the update, we'll have a rooted version, i can bet my right nut on it(and yes i do still have my right nut lol)
Guys... I don't play forum police or anything but the questions go in the q/a stickied thread or in general. The moderater already moved several threads like this today. Oh and when we do get an update... it will posted here after the proper mods have been made. You'll only have to wait a couple days and I'm sure that will be faster than you having to wait in line for your ota to be beamed to your handset. So go ahead and root it.. trust me! You'll be glad you did. Oh and if you get an ota... don't install it! Contact me or one of the other forum members. Or better yet post your news and we'll tell you the steps so we all can enjoy it.

Same problem. My vibrant does not boot Tried the battery method, removing battery, holding volume buttons while putting it back in. Does not work Any other ideas I could try ?
DEAD Vibrant after OTA
Yesterday I borked my Vibrant. Spent alllll night using Odin to get it back to factory and then allowed the Tmobile ota update figuring that it worked fine before. Well it went to reboot and never came back. BLACK screen. Left it plugged in while I ate breakfast with tears dripping in my pancakes (I went to bed at 6am!) and I noticed the top of the phone was very hot. Not the battery the top.
Sometimes I hate technology but technology always hates me!
Would it be worth building a DIY plug?

First of all, what the HECK were you trying to flash onto your device? The only thing you should be using ODIN for is JFD or JI6. Those are the only official T-Mobile firmware you should be flashing to restore from a brick besides Eugene's Froyo, but that's for like emergencies.
Second of all, If you have the Bell Vibrant, this is the wrong forum.
Finally, there is no ODIN 3.1. You must be using Odin3 1.0 which is VERY unstable. Please do more research before you attempt to do things to your phone.
Address these concerns and we can proceed.

Be more helpful before you post here in our forum and do more research.
If Odin3 v1.0 is unstable you should offer the ignorant massess here the correct version to use including a link to it.

Listen here little guy, I was talking to him not you. I asked him three questions to verify what he did because if he doesn't even have the right model phone then this is the INCORRECT forum. The firmware he was trying to flash is incorrect and not stock. T959UVJE8 looks to be firmware for the Vibrant but stock firmware is T959UVJFD and the OTA update is T959UVJI6.
Posting in "our" forum Mr. 3 posts? You are telling me to do more research? That's funny.
Everything I mentioned can be found by simply going to the development section and looking in the Bible. I already mentioned that you need JFD and JI6. The latest version of ODIN is 1.7. All of this can be found in less than 2 minutes.

Honestly, you need to start by looking through there. It seems you both have a lot to learn and spoon feeding you isn't going to solve the bigger problem. Hope you get it resolved. Look through there, find the files you need (you need to get use to looking in the Bible) and come back. If you still have problems after READING, I will walk you through it. Good day.

TMobile Vibrant. It does not even start. So, Odin is not even in the picture. I was flashing the 3 button fix for vibrant using update.zip method. It flashed successfully, but after flashing, it never came back on.
I managed to get my Vibrant into DL mode the other day when it was just a black screen by...
-take out battery, sim, and sd card
-plug phone into wall charger (not computer)
-hold volume buttons while popping the battery back in
it took me a couple times, but i guess the wall charger gets a better jolt?
fyi: my vibrant is not hardware locked
hope this works for you

Hey guys I need some help/direction here. I got my phone from best buy and bricked it a few days later. Then I ued odin and flashed goddamn dg27. I was not aware that was NOT the current build. I am on dk28 or froyo right now but I do not like how slow and crappy it is just for those little extra features so I would like some kind of odin or update zip that I can use to get it back to normal or to a state that I can update to di18 or w.e. it is. E.g stock that I can get ota updates also.
From My Samsung Epic Using TapaTalk.
The stickied wiki on this forum has directions.
DI18 i believe is the last official update that we got from sprint
here's a link to it
http://www.multiupload.com/X9AB1U56JV
just use it in odin
@Kitteh298 (Misleading Brother): Why don't you ever state what exactly you want, I could have gotten you back to DI18 all along. I thought you wanted to get back to DG27 with all your settings, in which case your backup in Clockworkmod would have worked.
@Everyone else: I'm sorry he wasted your time that could have been used to help someone that actually needs help.
You always have to do this.

Hey guys, all credit goes to retnuh730, he posted these directions to help someone unroot in the dev sections. I happened to go through the google doc and was very impressed with how helpful/precise it is and wanted to share them in the GENERAL section just in case someone could use help unrooting.
Edit: retnuh said he can't take credit for the instructions because he bookmarked them awhile back when he came across them, (but thanks for posting anyway). so thanks to whoever made these instructions!
Edit 2: fixed the links, thanks guys for the catch

sorry guys, i just copied and pasted the thread comment itself. it should be fixed now.
Wow, talk about a timely post. I was helping a friend unroot tonight due to a dropped Evo and the resulting broken glass screen. I thought I had it pretty down pat meaning I read about it, knew the process but couldn't find a working RUU. (I was in a hurry as well). Now I have the ammunition to accomplish the task. Thanks again.
I have done this to my phone several times, and also for some friends a few times too. Thanks OP for the links. I know the process by heart, but for people still following the old tutorial on here this should help because the old tutorial still links an old RUU and you will get the main version is error, which happened to me. It wasn't until I downloaded the 3.70 RUU that it worked.
Thanks for the post.
Tried to download teh RUU and it said decompression failed, I am on a mac and have tried this with different versions and they all fail. What the eff is going on?
Can you unroot to stock without using the USB connector
My HTC Evo 4G usb port broke off the motherboard, is there anyway to unroot back to stock without using the usb connector that is required with the RUU way?
