[Q] Difference between Clockworkmod Recovery. - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

The title says it all, I don't understand what is different between Clockworkmod Recovery 150mb, 250mb and 400mb? If I flash a 400mb recovery can I install a rom that requires 150mb? If I flash a 150mb can I install a rom that requires 400mb recovery?
In this thread, at the download section.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=908528
It says " 4.X is bigger then 2.X so you need at least a 390mb system partition. If you flashed the recovery with 360mb modded file, you have to reflash it again " How do I check the modded file size? and reflash what?

Hello,
The size speaks of itself. Some Roms (like Sense Roms) have lots of components which requires more space from your Internal Memory (NAND) . And others don't, (like MIUI and CM) . And if you flashed a 400mb Recovery you MAY be able to use a 150mb ROM on it but it's absolutely not recommended as the rom may malfunction. and when you try to use a 150mb recovery with a 400mb size rom it will not install . (even if it did, it will stick on a bootloop) .
You can check the modded size by checking flash.cfg (open with notepad)

The quoted size refers to the size system partition that is created, and the system partition must be big enough for the rom you flash.
Yes you can flash a small rom to a large partition with no side effects,,,BUT you lose the extra space. So a 150 Meg rom on a 250meg partition results in 100meg totally wasted. A 250meg rom won't flash to a 150 partition.
If the rom doesn't tell you what size to use, extract the system folder from the ..zip, and see how big it is, (right click-properties) and add a few Meg.

Yep just choose the size based on what ROM you want to install. You should check the individual ROM threads for instructions. And just btw I found this HD2 toolkit thing very useful. It allows you to repartition to any custom size you want (not only 150, 250 or 400 Mb), among many other things.

How do you downgrade the mb? Like I installed a 250 mb cwm and I want to revert to 150 mb... How do I do it?

Just flash the new partiton. This will delete everything on your NAND, so backup first.

just the same as you did the 250, except you either edit flash.cfg or use the toolkit and select 150.

[Q] Use Larger CWM recovery size than needed?

I'm trying to flash a rom for example http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1100707 and requires 260m recovery size and 1gb partition.
My phone currently has a 400m recovery and 1gb partition from previous rom. Would it be possible if I just installed the new rom without changing recovery to 260m?
If possible any side effects?
Googled b4 and no results...
Ok tried it and booted successfully.
Problem was that I had almost no storage space..

Hi,
The point of the correct CWM size is to accommodate the system for the ROM you are using.
It only needs to be a little bit bigger than the actual system itself.
The rest of the space can then be allocated to the internal memory and therfore be used to install apps.
If you use a CWM that is too big,you will have no room for your apps etc. as you found out.
It's not difficult to re-partition your CWM especially now that KSUBEDI has made THIS TOOL (Don't forget to thank him).

[Q] How can I verify the CWM partition size?

Hi,
First of all I am sorry for the noob question, but how can I verify what is the partition size of Clockworkmod Recovery is creating in my cell phone?
I have a T-Mobile HD2 with MAGL 1.3, Clockworkmod Recovery 3.0.0.1 and Hyperdroid CM7 installed. Under Settings/About Phone/ Mem Info I see 134MB/411MB. Is the CWM partition related with this?
In the past I used the HD Core Droid version 1.5 witch was a very big Android ROM (270Mbytes), now a installed the Hyperdroid witch is very light (67Mbytes). But I just installed the ROM without changes in the CWM layout. Any suggestions about?
Thanks

looks like your partition is set for around 400mb
you can modify the flash.cfg file in cwm by opening it with notepad.
and change the numbers to those recomended by the Rom dev
misc ya 1M
recovery rrecov|ro|nospr filesize MAGLDR_recovery_3.0.2.4-seadersn.img
boot yboot|ro 8M
system ya 400M
cache ya 8M
userdata ya|asize|hr allsize
Thanks for your help. Just a few question.
Where is located the flash.cfg file? So, just changing the parameter system ya from 400M to 150M is enought to release space to install more apllications?
Thanks

u will need to instal everything again and use the toolkit to install the 150 mb partition ... witch will leave about 200mb free ...if u install 120 mb that will leace about 300 mb free ... if u go lower mayve the rom wont boot.
for hyperdroid i used ti flash 100 mb but with 90mb the rom dont boot ...it's advisable to flash the partition set by the dev of any rom...

no, it isnt related at all, thats the memory, the RAM, not the partition size.
there is nowhere as standard that shows you teh size of the system partition (which is what you mean by CWM partition).
You can see the size of the data partition by going setings - storage - internal storage.
to see teh others, get 'super manager' from teh market, open it, and choose file explorer.
now, at teh top of the foldes list, in small writing under where it says 'back up level folder' it gives you details of teh folder you are currently in, ,
so use it to browse into your system folder, and look at the info.
EG mine says 'total 150M used 137.4M, bla blah' because I have a 150Meg system partition, and teh typhoon rom comes to about 137 meg when unzipped.
If i now browse into the cache folder, that info shows 'tot 40M, used 1.1M.....' because i chose a 40meg cache partition.
you can do the same with the sd-ext folder to see how big and how full your EXT partition on the sd card is.
Thanks a lot for all the answers. Now the this thing is getting clear for me.
Thanks guys.

[Q] Stuck on bootscreen new nand rom

Today I was updating my android rom (one of the first nands) and I've updated magldr and installed CWM.
Then I installed a new rom with CWM and after reboot he keeps showing the bootscreen of the rom, I've tried another rom and it's the same...
Can anybody help me?
The most common reason for being stuck at bootscreen is improper partition size. You sure you got that right?
I've taken the largest partition size (400mb)...
you don't take the largest, but rather the most suitable. (or the one stated in the rom's thread) you should also take into consideration whether the rom NEEDS sd-ext or not.
What rom do you want to use/upgrade?
Have you met the requirements? (sd-ext/system partition/cache/radio)
I've a EU 512mb HTC HD2. I don't know my rom anymore that I used but I think its a darkforce froyo rom...
I've parted my sd with cwm: 1024ext, 64mb swap and used the 400mb CWM
Now I want to install the Runnymede 3.5 or the Desire HD 3.06.405.1 - Sense 3.0 - Android 2.3.5 [v1.4][RAFPIGNA 1.9GB], i don't know which one is better...
link to those roms please?

okay for the first one (runnymede) you need 6/200/8. that means 200mb system partition, 6 boot partition and 8 cache partition. AND A 1GB SD-EXT
And for the second one you need 5/155/5. which means 155mb system partition and 5 megs for both cache and boot. AND YOU NEED 1GB SD-EXT.
Neither of these ROMs will run under a 400mb system partition ~!
And remember, always wash your hands and wipe your phone/sd before attempting another rom

If you're using the old method, then look for a file called config.cfg, edit that using any file editor.
But if you're using the NAND Toolkit, you can edit them by selecting the desired partition from the panels on the left or the right, depending on your bootloader, and the cache is just right below those panels.

I don't see why you would need a larger partition but an easy solution is to go to the HD2 CWM thread and download the latest version, then within the downloaded folder open the file flash.cfg (not flash.cfg.txt) and change the system partition to your desired size, then flash through daf.exe

to explain, in case you didn't realise, , making the system partition bigger than that rom requires is pointless, since the system doesn't store anything in the system partition, except the system. The data partition (and sd-ext of in use) is where all your apps and data get installed. If you make your system partition 100mb bigger, for example, your internal storage will actually go down by 100meg.
When you partition, the data partition is set to 'allsize', meaning it will take up however much space is left after the boot/cache/recovery partitions are created.
When you look at the available internal storage space in settings, it ONLY shows you the space in your data partition, nothing else, which is why it will never show 1024mb, more like 800mb for a cm rom, or 550mb for a sense rom.
thanks
thanks for the info.. sorry for the delay in the reply

HELP - I installed this ROM and now i have low free space.

HELP - I have not few free space.
Hello, I installed this ROM today: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1912740 but now it says that i have few free space to aplications. 6.9MB and only 92KB free
I installed the 400MB partition Clokcwork Mod and i created a partition of 1024MB in my SD Card like it says here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044830 . Why is that? How to resolve this? Thank You.
1- Do not create multiple threads with different problems when you can just combine all of them in one thread.
2- That ROM (apparently) does not support SD-EXT out of the box, and you flashed 400mb recovery *clap*. It says "150mb MAX" if you are doing the odex thingy. with 400mb you lose ALL your remaining space.
3- You can either repartition your system to a smaller size (using the HD2 Toolkit) or just try to install an A2SD script.
4- That guide is kind of outdated.
Good luck.

So you're saying that i should install the 150MB Partition Clockwork Mod instead of the 400MB, and reinstall the ROM? Thanks.
Yes, I am also saying do not follow that guide. Use the ToolKit.
