Best ROM For Battery Life? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I been searching for a while but nothing. The Rom I have now battery dies after 3-4 hours of usage... is there any roms with 6+ life... thx
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

Doing what? The last two roms I've had give me about 8 days of standby, but probably 2 hours of browsing and 4-6 hours of talk. With light use during the day, I easily have 50% battery when my HD2 goes on charge.
My current ROM is here.

all cm7 have almost same consumption but u can ask the users of evey rom to know....
by the way ...wrong place to post ur question ...

The best time gave me Frankinstain Droid wirh 1st sense... it is really the best imho

HyperDroid CM7 is best choice for me. At the end of Day with bit internet surfing and 30 minutes of phone calling, it still has 71% . And it's every day the same percentage.
Modifications:
-Tasker profiles for disabling phone in the night, GPS turning on basing on app start.
-RIL Tweaks matching my provider
Important is, that you uninstall all unnecessary stuff like widgets you don't use.

Best roms for battery...
MIUI ROMS (NDT/LADY). The best batt life usually. Some Cy 7.1 roms last 8hrs but most dont. Just flash a miui and turn off gps and bluetooth when not in use...wroks for me...

I use Hyperdroid Cm7 [look at my signature below] with Radio 2.15.50.02 and i have the best battery life!
Ps: Wrong section to post your question mate!

Battery life depends so much on usage pattern ... I can't tell that often enough. My setup e.g. is primarily for business with primary use of push email, phone, bluetooth connection. Occasionally Internet, but only when Wifi is available.
So my setup is
- private APN (most ports blocked, so Market and many apps using non-8080 ports won't work)
- push email/calendar/contacts sync (Exchange server)
My experience is that "background sync" is a real battery sucker, so I switched it off (as described above, Market & Co. won't work anyway as long as I am on the private APN). With this setting, I can survive two full days, between 60% and 70% battery left when the second work day starts and around 20% left at the end of the second work day. Moving around (travelling) decreases my mileage, but I am always >50% after one full day.
Switching on "background sync", using weather and other fancy stuff brings me down to 25-30% after one day. I am using a Gingerbread ROM with Sense (Sense of Eclipse 2.0.0)

I have tested few ROMs for now and all I can say .. CleanEx is the most efficient for me and my battery. Try 1.19 UltraLite Turbo. The point is it has most of junky apps and visual effects removed so you put inside the ones YOU really really want via cabs. ROM as core as possible. Simple.
P.S. It is not commercial, just my own experience

Many Thanks, what sort of life are you acheiving?
Turn everything automatic off or pare apps down.
I took my TP2 from less than 12 hours to 4 days doing one thing; turn everything automatic off and run manual. Turn location service, weather...off. I don't need the Twitter app running; I have it setup to SMS text me and I receive tweets as text messages. Over in Wi-Fi set it to best battery and over in back light drop it down to 60 percent and even lower while driving at night and set it to turn off the backlight after one minute as low as 30 seconds and off after a few minutes. There is tweak in B&B Tweaks for power save mode which I believe turns wi-fi off while it's in sleep mode...I set my email accounts to run once every 4 hours and my Google mail to run once a day. There is so much information on our devices that requires the device to literally always be in contact with our providers and now I know why it requires a data plan. So many apps are tied to it.

Like SnittyKitty said, I have disabled all `automatic connections` OFF, everything is on manual. When not using data connection - always switched into 2G mode, at home only Wifi.
Battery life ? Some news reading (RSS hub, web pages), mail ... few times a day + some txts + some voice calls ... about 3 nights and days to make my battery flat, sometimes 3-4 days, depends.
Last week I was testing my battery by running internet radio (Miasto Muzyki from OpnMarket via data connection over 3G). It took about 9% from battery life for one hour of listening.

It could help to make it a habit to carry a spare battery in a case.
I have a form fitting plastic case for the spare battery, and it goes with my phone everywhere. It was annoying at first, but now it's a habit. I don't end up needing it most of the time. But it definitely saved me few too many times.
I am thinking about buying the extended battery, but........I like how thin the phone is...
sigh...
As said before. set all to manual or about every couple of hours. use bandswitcher to close your data connection
look here to see what power consumption is used for what service. you can decide yourelf what you are using and what effect it has on batterylife if you switch it off.

at the end you should be able to get a good battery consumption on every rom.
i have use different ones and always managed to get a 2 day+ batterylife

battery life improvement?

hye,
I just bought a HTC leo which I really love.
but there is just one thing I'm concerned about, the battery life.
with my htc touch pro 2 I was able to use my phone 2 days before recharging but I can't do that with the htc HD2
IS THERE A WAY TO IMPROVE BATTERIE LIFE?
thanx
use less of your phone the hd2 drains the battery and is very good at that.
Or you buy another spare battery to switch with the exausted one when you're on the go, they're pretty cheap on ebay with a mains charger
only tips, would be turn all you're updates off, i.e, email, weather, twitter, stocks etc. screen brightness, not much else really, i get a full day out of my battery with everything turned on and full screen brightness so im happy
switch off 3G whenever there is no need for it, best is using a tool like wmlonglive to do this automatically. Will improve the battery live especially if signal strength is changing often between 2G and 3G
don't use windows live push mail, it will improve your battery dramatically
edward
my HD2 just takes 30 minutes to drop from 100% to 70 % .....
from the bottom of my heart , i want to say , htc fone ..... not good as they say ,
crap
battery drinker
just after some games , it hots ...............
will change other fone ,
I do not have a problem with the phone. it lasts me 2-3 days depending on where i am. thus depending on phone signal strength.
Further when you want to improve battery life look at the treads about that. there are so many with so many suggestions. quite a few have improved my battery dramatically. search and try.
@Felix
Are you using a Stock-ROM?
When yes, then install atleast BsB-Tweaks and activate the powersaving settings ... (the most cooked roms already have this settings)
It will bring some extra minutes/hours
My HD2 (fully loaded over night) is at 77% after 8 hours and some phone calls (ca. 30 minutes), sms and some gaming and surfing
@enchanter
yes, it drains the battery pretty good and yes its becoming hot when you play games or stuff ... but what is the problem with it?
We all knew this - before we bought a HD2
ha ha , Pliskinius has the coolest answer
" what is the problem with it?

u right man ,
@ pliskinius: I don't know what a stock rom is... it is the rom who was installed when I bought it.
my battery lasts one day and a bit, so there is not really a big problem, but when you go somewhere and forget your charger...
@enchanter: I'm really pleased with my htc, its my 6 or so and they become nicer and nicer..

Try this fully drain the battery until the phone shuts down then take out the battery for two minutes, put the battery back in (DO NOT TURN ON THE PHONE) and charge until the green light comes on, take out the battery for another two minutes then put it back in and start up, this should improve battery life.
Also other factors affecting battery life are the Rom version,Radio and HSPL.
nice idea @nosh - will try it too ... maybe it brings some extra minutes
@Felix
you are using a stockrom (stockroms are the original ones, wich are installed when you pick up a new phone)
get this little tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=589305 and activate the energysaving feature (will improve the battery life)
@ nosh 10: I'll try that thanks, but I heard that fully draining your battery is not a good thing.
@ pliskinius: haha, yeah I know I don't know a lot about WM
Laurentius26 ROMs get an excellent battery life. I get 2 days without deactivating anything. And everything works perfectly and smoothly. I have the 2.10.50.26 radio ROM and the Laurentius26 GoldEdition V2.0 Spikeā„¢ WWE 21899. Can last up to 2.5 to 3 days by deactivating 3G. I download weather every 3 hours, tweets every 4 hours, e-mail every hour. Then I make phone calls about 15 minutes per day, sms 10 to 20, pictures about 10, surf with Opera about 30 minutes per day. Remember also to close all unused applications (for me the best task manager is the Touch X manager that is on Xperia X2, lets you choose between short click on the cross to minimize the app and long click on the cross to close the app).
Edit : It's now 15:50. Was 100 % yesterday evening by 22:00. Now it's 73 % left. But I only used my phone since that time to make a countdown for cooking at lunch time.
I'm currently in Japan, using phone on 3G, very little use, listen to some music daily (30 min) and play around an hour. I'm getting 3 days easily without a charge and could easiy stretch to 4 days.
Back in my country I disable 3G and use only 2g with auto updates on every 3 hours, no email push no twitter whatsoever, just weather updates. During the night the battery drains down by 15% and with normal usage I'd have to charge daily.
15% during the night with maybe 2 updates during the night and data connection disabling just after a few minutes shouldn't drain the battery by that much. Dunno, but I'm pointing my fingers towards 2g.
I'm no expert, actually I'm far from that, but could it be that 2g uses more power from the phone?
Without any usage at all, here in Japan, I hardly get a 10% battery drain in 24hrs compared to 15% during the night back in my country.
Maybe new comm chips Edge eats more than 3G as all the phones are now optimized for 3G, I wouldn't be surprised at all.
But one thing is sure : if you have bad 3G coverage or bad quality signal, it really drains your battery. Only way to avoid this : disable 3G and you phone will stop changing from Edge to 3G or HDPDA several times per minute.
I'm using WMLonglife, and I've set it to 3g only. Now I have no idea if here in Japan they have HSDPA or Edge or if the software is keeping the phone on 3g, but I haven't seen the phone changing from 3g even when the reception went down to 1 bar.
But i'm pretty impressed with the battery life at the moment. Pity i won't have the same battery life back home.

Battery life is horrible..just horrible

after getting 2.1 update..my phones battery life has become more horrible.
when i am out clubbing, phone doesnt even last 8 hours.
most friends with Blackberries keep their 3G switched on always so they can use whatsapp or BBM
but for me..if i keep 3G on..the battery wont last for few hours..
how are you guys dealing with this problem?
i am thinkin of buying an extra battery and keeping it in my pocket when out.
or thinkin of upgrading to some other android phone with froyo
My phone is lasting 2 days now.. I did find a few things that were killing my battery though (Handscent bug on unread text messages, some self updating widgets I was using.. ).. suggest you try to suss out what's preventing the phone from sleeping and ditch the app, or replace with one that doesn't cause the problems...
(I've also rooted, enabled JIT, removed Timescape and a few of the other std apps too but don't really think that any of that made much difference to my battery)
Using custom rom (2.1 b005 ; i know old, but good ) with a task killer and extended controls (app) for de-/activating APNs
Also using setcpu set to poversave, max 512 and min the lowest

1% in 3-4 hours ..u mean standby time?
standby time is pretty decent by default anyway
but usage time is very very low.
Disable face recognition service. I get ~3-4 days of light usage now and can do a full day at heavy usage no problem.
i'm losing 3% an hour on standby and i have nothing running, how do you guys last 1-2 days?
that looks like you have such a lot of battery draining apps.
do this:
charge the phone all the night and in the morning turn it off.
instead of turning it on with the power button, press the MENU button and the power button both at the same time.
after you see the sony ericcson logo release the power button, keep the MENU button pressed until the phone boots up
now you are in safe mode
in this mode all your start-up apps won't boot, only the needed by the system.
Keep this way all day long and by the night check your battery indicator, if it is way too much diferent than before, blame your apps.
Also remove timescape, this will give you around 15% more of battery life.
btw: make a shorcut on the homescree of your whatsapp and everything you need to stay communicated, because they won't be on the apps drawer

Custom b006 is also great at battery life. I have 3g always enabled and connect a lot to wifi at home and my battery is at about 60% after a full day of usage.
Another tip, if you want to stick with original firmware, you could try data on demand. This enables mobile data connection only when screen is on and saves you a lot of battery.
Sent from custom AOSP 2.1 using XDA App
Battery life has been greatly improved in 2.1 so I would be checking what apps you've installed because it's more than likely due to one.
If you don't use/configure Timescape, it doesn't take battery life. No need to uninstall. I haven't, and I can get two days, with plenty of usage.
I've found, though, if you reboot the phone after giving it a full charge, it tends to work a lot better. Yesterday, after using the phone for a few hours at/after work, I was at 70%. Played Angry Birds for 30 minutes, brought it down to 60%, and it was 56% by bed time.
I don't know how you guys are getting 2 days or more... for me, I'm struggling to get through the 24 hour period !!
Between, I don't like to turn off the data or stop syncing this and that sort of things. Stopping these to save on the battery, must get a old Nokia phone which can last a week without a charge.
Give any real advice other than this if possible.
Did u check whether ur battery usage have high "cell standby" consumption? I know mine has bloody high 40%...believe this is one of the culprit...
Compared with wife's x10 mini...hers superb battery life easily 3 days normal use..with 0% cell standby...argh..
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I've said it before... Bad apps or bad widgets cause the battery to drain when on standby..
If you are getting substantial drain when your not using the phone then it's bad apps or bad widgets preventing your phone from sleeping.. when sleeping (even with wifi/ 2G/ 3G and syncing switched ON) you should be seeing between 1-3% per hour depending on how much you have syncing.
I've got FB syncing, auto sync on google sync (contacts, calendar), and googlemail push all on, all the time.
You need to work out what's at fault and find an alternative which doesn't cause the problems.
Also when you just updated your phone is doing all kind of stuff in the background. After a few days it is much better already, my phone last now for 2 days without any task killing application, but I did remove a lot of useless default crap using titanium backup application...

my x10 was stay for 2-2.5 days .
after using BB charger it stays 20 hours .
even when i back with the original charger it stays worse than before
I habe 3G always on and my Phone lasts 2-3 Days
Hmm without 3G / Data enabled I can use my phone for 3 to 5 days because I only use them when I needed it only. My friends have it enabled everytime and he gets about 1 days and a half in quite poor reception area, maybe other setting also affect battey life? because I think the x10 battery life is comparable to my previous nokia e52 with 1500 mAh battery in similar condition (3g / data and gps active only when needed).
Battery time on 2.1
Hello i'm a x10 owner and after the upgrade at 2.1 mi battery time is more than awful around 1,5 days on 1.6 i have the battery up to minimum 3 days, i use advanced tak killer on 1.6 i had es task killer (much better than advanced task) but on 2.1 if i select kill all it turnes of my signal and my sd card and if i select kill when scren off when i'm in a call and the scren goes of bye bye signal and convesation ( what to do??????????????????????????????
And a anoyng thing i have many aplications that run by themselfs like yahoo messenger & mail, youtube, gesture search, and 2or3 more the question is whyyy? I never touch them and they are running i think thats why my battery dies so quick please helppp, i was weryyyy happy with my battery time on 1.6 now i hate 2.1 (
its not recommended to use a task killer on 2.1 as it has better task management

I am Depressed!

It has been almost a month since I've gotten the Galaxy S2.
I literally waited like a longing puppy for almost half a year to get this into my hands.
I have to admit, it is one of the most beautiful creations to ever grace our earth, but gosh, it has this one big, big flaw... (for me) battery life. Before you dismiss this as another battery life complaining thread, hear me out...
I have tried EVERYTHING.
Ever since 2.3.3, battery drain. Then 2.3.4 was announced... NO MORE BATTERY DRAIN. The news caused a burst of elation, but it was all too brief. Flashed to 2.3.4, same deal.
I've tried all the ROMs-- Litening, Villainrom, Cognition, Infusion (now defunct).
I've tried several kernels -- the standard CF kernel, neophyte's, mirage, etc.
I've calibrated my battery after each flash.
I've tried downclocking it with SetCPU.
I've frozen so much with TitaniumBackup.
Dormancy settings, system update settings, modem roms, I've tried them all.
I even purchased, in desperation, a third party battery which claimed to have 2000mAh capacity.
All to no avail. Nada, zilch, non. NOTHING has worked for me.
Last night for example, I had charged my phone to 100%. When I woke up 7 hours later, it had fallen to 63%.
Therefore can deduce that consumption is is about 5% per hour with screen OFF.
I have also made it a point to test a different ROM/kernel for at least 3 to 5 days before I make a change.
Now I really don't know where I'm going wrong, yeah I do have a few widgets and stuff, but what is a phone like this without widgets?
I am getting so sad over this issue. This phone is so perfect in every other way.
Why? Is it just me?
One no mention of actual battery life .
Two phones get fed up with multiple roms kernels etc rammed down their throat and dont work well .
jje
What exactly do you mean by 'battery drain' ?
Starting an new battery drain thread without even describing the type of battery drain is not a god start for this thread.
What is your idle drain? (% per hour when not using the phone).
How much "display on time" do you have when the battery is starting to be empty (no guessing, hard number from the battery menu please). A lot of people underestimates how much active use they have with SGS2.
Please also add graph for battery statistics, both the first page and also for the battery graph (press the small graph on top).
Just trying different ROM's in order to solve a battery drain issue is a bad idea, it is much better to find the root cause of the battery drain and solve that specific issue.
I mean I leave it overnight, and it falls from 100% to 60%.
It has never lasted me beyond 9 hours with mid level usage.

Apologies, my post has been updated. I don't have a good graph with my now since I'm charging, but I will post one up tomorrow.
Do widgets really make a big difference? Because that's the only thing that I have not really tested.
Could very well be a misbehaving app or widget. My phone in idle uses 0.5%-1% an hour with wifi on. Without wifi it goes slightly faster strange enough. I have some widgets that update every hour, gmail push, whatsapp and Samsung account sync.
Test without syncing and widgets and then re-enable things one by one to find the problem.
Another battery thread. That really IS depressing.
i just got my phone few days ago, battery life isn't great so far but it isn't as bad as your case.
I would recommend you do proper tests after starting fresh. flash a stale official rom, keep the phone barebones, dont install apps etc.. then test bat life with phone call usage.
Then slowly start adding and enabling things like gps, auto sync, background data and so on, till you find the cause. I think the battery life thing in the settings can help too.

40% overnight is huge, I get approx 5% in 7-8 hours.
With 5% drain per hour with no usage, haven't you tested to turn off things until the drain stops? I would start with wifi, SGS2 doesn't work well with some routers. Then just continue with the usual suspects: widgets that connects to internet etc, email sync, facebook etc. (freeze with Titanium)
Do this systematically, you could turn off several things at once, but not too many, try to find the real cause.
There is of course a possibility that your phone is broken, but that isn't my first guess.
Why does no one try Juice defender???

Oh yes, that night the 40% drain was with Wifi on, and I heard that there have been issues with the DIR-655, which I am using.
Anyway, even with wifi off, my battery life fell from 100% to 83% with a very slimmed down ROM, everything that could be frozen, frozen.

I would, but the thing is, the battery life should not even be that bad in the first place.
Sounds to me like you have a rogue app. I get 12,14 hours of heavy usage with brightness set to roughly 75%.
Don't flame him. He has tried alot things prior to posting. This is the place to post. Try the criskelo rom. It is a great rom with great battery life. Freeze wifi sharing. Delete apps at the beginning that you don't use all the time then add extra apps one by one and see what impacts the battery level the most. Check update schedules for things like news widgets and beautiful weather-I have mine set to six hours or so. There is absolutely no reason why you can't last a full day with 30-40% left.
Well, first of all, it's just a phone, although an expensive one, so no need to be stressed.
Secondly, it sounds very much like you have a faulty battery or device. Maybe you should have replaced it as soon as you noticed the problem. There's definitely something wrong there if it goes from 100% down to 60% overnight (assuming it's not heavily used during that time).
You already tried most of the things that I would do to tackle the issue. Try swapping batteries for a few days with somebody with the same handset, and see what happens.
Good luck!
For giggles, why don't you hard reset your phone? Then, instead of loading tons of apps of questionable quality, task killers, memory managers, and battery monitors, just load the stuff you need everyday. Things like e-mail and social stuff. People that haven't tortured their phones with excessive crap seem to get better battery life without even trying. With over a hundred apps, all the syncs syncing, heavy Wi-Fi use, and Exchange push I'm now up to 14-18 hours with moderate to heavy use. If the experiment works, start loading the rest of your stuff on your phone to see what the impact is.
Another thing to consider is your network connectivity. Your carriers signal strength and infrastructure could be part of the problem. Certain carriers and locations seem to contribute a lot to batter drain. Also, the SGS2 is very router sensitive. It likes Netgear, D-Link not so much.
Good luck.
This is with a screen on time of 2:14 too, and overclocking to 1.52gHz
There is no battery issue, this phone has twice the battery life of the desire hd and thats a fact, i have not changed fast dormancy or anything, this phone is king for battery life.
Played games and browsed internet, i would say medium heavy usage
Using 2.3.3 KF3
Also if you had a laptop that lasted 10 hours with 63 remaining wouldnt you think that was good? This phone is the absolute top dog, i would even say its better than IP4 for battery now
Also used cardiotrainer to track my run this morning using GPS, ran for 30 mins and lost around 6 percent... Amazing!

Yep Juice defender sucks, and is not needed really...
You either have a rouge app sucking the life out of your phone,
Your syncing at too short periods (mine is set to 1 hour)
Your phone signal is weak so your phone is using more battery drawing 3g from your service provider

ROMs that meet my criteria (mainly battery)

Hi,
When I first bought GS2, I used to get great battery life overnight like 3% total with app settings below, and my phone was able to last up to 5 days if I don't use them. I use my phone to receive occassional calls and use apps like GPS navigations/browsers for urgent work only.
After many Kies stock upgrades and flashing custom ROMs, my phone is down to ~1-2% battery drain every hour at night, I consider it a lot because I prefer to go multiple days without charging. The ROMs I already tried were CM7, CM9, neatrom, checkrom, etc.
Can someone suggest a ROM that meets my criteria:
Apps:
- default apps / configurations
- Works with gmail sync and have google play
- Works with exchange mail setup
Settings that I can live with overnight:
- 2G
- no data, no wifi, no gps, no sync
Battery criteria:
- no more than 4% drain overnight (8 hours), ideally 2% or less!
gb roms drain less than ics roms do, so if you want more batterylive, i would advise you to install checkrom v6 or other gb roms (checkrom is the best for as far as i know)
i had best battery with it, and then you can undervolt a little bid
manually disabling data when you dont need it saves alot of battery! Data on is one of the biggest drains of battery.
Install betterbatterystats (you can find it for free on xda), and see which apps are causing wakelocks then change their settings or uninstall them.
a long time ago, on checkrom v6, together with phenomenal kernel and undervolting, i only lost 2% or less during the night.
i cant seem to find gb version of phenomenal kernel though (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601520)
Lp7 for me has the best batt life, first do a full wipe
