Just reaching out in case you all ran into this issue.
I'm running stock Android 2.3.3 on my Droid X. I got the OTA Gingerbread update when it launched 5/31.
The Car Home app has been on my phone since I bought it last August. However I've had several hang ups since installing the Gingerbread update and finally got around to running a factory reset in efforts to clear up some issues. Now I only have Car Dock installed and Car Home is not listed as being compatible with Droid X in the Android Market.
Anyone know how to get this installed on a non-rooted DX? I can't track down the apk to install.
Thanks!
Chris
sorry to tell u this. but from what i have read and my own experience, u should just sbf back to froyo (2.2), there gave been alot of probs with ota gb. as i said thats from my perspective. if u want to keep it then google the car home app and dl it. its not wares cause it comes on the phone. i would upload it but im running cm7 and loving it!!! and i happened to remove car home n e time its there.

also if u cant find it on google then dl a stock froyo/gb rom and use rar to grab the apk from there. should be in data/data/app or data/app or most likely system/app. hope this helped

What is the best way to go from a rooted 2.2 to a rooted 2.3?
Dan
I'd love to also, sadly it's not here and may never be.
Just install the OTA update it doesn't matter if you are rooted or not.

I updated to 2.3.340 while I was in the Verizon store when I got home I tried a slew of one click roots and the only one to get the job done was z4root it worked the first time

im on 2.2 rooted, but when i click to check for updates it says im up to date. what gives?
you have to be totally stock before it will let you update, if you're build.prop is far enough off it won't even show there is an update.
how do i go back to totally stock on 2.2? I renamed the bloatware .apk's back to the original files, what else is needed?
I know I know, there are probably lots of threads on this but I'm having a difficult time finding them.
Basically I just need some guidance in how to go about
1) Rooting the phone
2) installing whatever is needed to flash a ROM
3) how to flash a ROM
Let me know, I have a droid incredible and I'm very familiar with that process- but since the X has a locked bootloader it seems it's different here.
Look for z4root, droidx bootstrap and do lots of reading.

Already did, here's where I'm dumbly stuck.
I download z4root off of here since it was removed from the market. I have the settings enabled where I should be able to install apk's that are not form the market, however when I try to run the download it'll tell me "can not find program to run this file".
Pretty annoying and frustrating, any suggestions?
FYI it is definitely .apk I didn't rename the extension to anything else.
Did you download it directly to your phone? You need to download it to your computer and then move the file to the sdcard. Don't know why but it worked for me. I was having the same problem.

Ah ok, yes I did download it to the phone. Weird because my incredible didn't have to do that.
I guess different phones have different ways.
My sister with the droid x is out and about, so I hope to work on it when she gets back and hopefully get a good ROM going on it.

The file here at this link will work no parsing error when downloaded to phone, there are some other vids on the channel that may be of use

Thanks, finally got it all working (yesterday) but wanted to post to thank you guys for the input and also to say how amazed I am at how much smoother and quicker the phone is without the bloat.
Didn't realize it was tied down so much.
Ah crap.....based on that endorsement I'm DEFINITELY gonna have to root now!

I rooted my sisters Droid X, my dad has the same exact droid X phone unrooted.
Comparing the 2 is completely different in how quick they are.
My dad's phone is a headache of lagginess and disappointment in speed.
Quite the opposite on the rooted phone.
I used the Liberity 1.5 ROM and also downloaded Launcher Pro from the market (just suggestions ) I never liked ADW launcher.
Have a question. I'm running a rooted Droid X on Verizon wireless running Android 2.2.1. I'm currently running Liberty 2.0.1 right now on the device. Is there a way to put a gingerbread ROM on my phone so I can be running gingerbread? Right now verizon doesn't have an update to push my phone to a 2.3, but is there a way I can manually do this? I only ask cause I also have a HTC Desire running cyanogenmod7 and it made my phone go from 2.2 to 2.3 and I'm curious if there is a way for me to do this with the droidx on verizon and if so where can I download it from?

Liberty for gb will take u from froyo to gb, but u will have to purchase donated toolbox from the market, well worth it if u ask me

Do you want liberty gingerbread or just stock gingerbread. Google gingerbread and you should find the last update. I do know it went public and you just flash it like a rom. I read about thus today on an android website just not sure wich one. Might of been android central.

You can find the gingerbread files on google, or check the site in my sig for the files. It's a 3 part file, is pre-rooted, flashable in clockwork mod recovery. There's also an update (.591) to the 3 part file listed on there, but must be flashed after.
well u finally decided to upgrade to gb using p3s rooted gb i think. i had to sbf back to froyo cause it caused my charging port ti go awol any suggestions? yes i wiped like 4 times including cache and dalvik. but ither than that it looked really nice. and root explorer wouldnt work either...

Yeah, you have to sbf back to froyo before installing rooted gb.
There is an actual guide somewhere I know, google it - I just saw it like a week ago. In a nutshell:
Make sure you have the right files.
You need leaked rooted gb, all the sbf stuff, droid x bootstrap and droid 2 bootstrap, and I think that is about it.
Root current device build.
Install droid x bootstrap.
Make a back up.
Sbf.
Install droid 2 bootstrap.
Install rooted gb leak .596, I prefer deodexed myself but idk...
Use droid 2 bootstrap to restore.
Remove droid x bootstrap from phone, or at least uninstall. Not compatible with gb.
I don't remember if I had to wipe data or cache or dalvik anywhere, last weekend I tried that new apex but didn't care for it and had to sbf and reinstall to get back to .596 myself, so I feel your pain on that. Had to do it so many times I thought I was going to brick for sure, I just kept trying. Eventually I got it right, on like tuesday.
Good luck.
Ps, idk about the not charging thing, sorry.
DX 2.3.3

Might re install busybox, or try a newer root explorer, if you haven't tried those things. Also might wanna try reseting battery stats, but there is a recommended way to do it, saw a post on gizmodo a while back.
Good luck

I think it's total BS that Motorola spent so much effort blocking tethering and failed to implement a basic thing like stable 3g or a working compass.
Google Sky Map is fixed. Happy days are here again!

right now i have a vzw droid-x running the alltel rom which is android 2.2.1
the reason i run this is because i do not have a vzw account and i can use "use gps satelites" and get my gps position still.
if i wanted to do that with a vzw rom i would have to activate phone.
anyhow long story short.....
is this based off a vzw rom.....would i be able to get my gps position by using ONLY "use gps satelites"?
btw i am rooted using the "superoneclick 2.1.1"
any info would be great.
thanks
updating to 602?
Im running 2 part gb odexed on top of rooted stock froyo and my radio shows 12. Does anyone know if I have to go back to froyo to do this 602 update? Or can I just unfreeze my frozen apps and update. (although everything is great). Thanks for any help.
Is there an official list of what the update fixes? Swype has definitely improved but the network connection is still randomly dropping on my DX

Or a camera that can save the resolution setting.
No idea how they didn't fix that one. They even acknowledge knowing about it and had it reported to engineering.
I am running 2.3.3 4.5.596 rooted 2 zip update. How do I update to 602 without screwing up my root ?

I'm not sure why you think you can't use the GPS without activating the phone. Unless I'm missing something there should be nothing preventing you from using the GPS without activating.

its a known problem.
im glad you said "shouldnt be"
one more thing:
make sure you read complete thread before you reply or you will look silly
Camera app still reverts back to WS mode after reboot or after you close the app via app manager or task killer, etc.
What is the baseband radio version?
