i have Motorola droid 2 on 2.2 rooted with bootstrap recovery, everything was workin fine till i decided to install custom rom, which was unleashed epic 2.5 (by mat) and now everytime i turn on my phone it goes into a loop reboots and never turns on all the way.
i have tried using sbf RSDlite to restore it, tried using linux ubuntu(newk8600 method ty btw) method as well to restore it, none seems to work i keep getting errors whenever i try to do it.
however before i installed the custom rom i did full backup using bootstrap recovery but the only way (that i know) to get in recovery is using bootstrap app, so is there a way i can manually get into bootstrap recovery so i can restore from backup?
please let me know, or if you have different method i'll appreciate your help. thanks in advance.
Which version of the software did you have before you installed epic unleashed, and which SBF did you use?
From what I have heard, Epic Unleashed will "brick" your phone if you try to install it on the 2.3.20 build. Since your phone did get bricked, it's likely that you are running 2.3.20 and not 2.2. You might want to make sure you are using the 2.3.20 SBF to flash your phone, and not the 2.2 SBF (which won't work because the kernel changed between the two)...
What type of errors do you get?
i always have luck getting into clockwork recovery by having my phone plugged in and within the first few seconds taking out my battery forcing it to take along time booting after the M logo and hence putting it into clockwork. I hope this helps
after you get passed the M pull the battery then boot back up it should come up in to recovery
thank you all for your help, however i tried all of these steps already, but i found another way to get it workin, here is the solution to whom got the same problem as mine.
its not letting me post the link for some reason, anyway just search for (Droid 2 Global SBF File (2.4.29) Full and RSDLite ).

Glad you got it fixed. Let me ask you something though. Before you installed the custom rom, did you wipe data and cache? Not doing so could result in a bootloop.

Sounds like the OP was trying to install a ROM for the original Droid 2 on the Droid 2 Global. It wouldn't have worked, no matter what install steps were used.

It's all good people need to read where they are posting this is in the D2 General section not the D2 Global general section. That's half his problem, he's been looking at ROMs for the original D2 not the device that he currently uses.
Hey XDA, relative noob here.
Currently running Liberty 1.5. With the donate Liberty toolbox can I go straight to the liberty gingerbread update? Or do I have to go through Liberty 2.0 then 2.0.1? Also, does the gingerbread liberty update include D2 bootstrap or do I need to get that now?

Short answer....yes. There are basically 2 files located in their "Nightlies" ROM list. The first, "Full Install", is for users on Froyo (I'm sure that includes users that are running ROMs other than Liberty on Froyo). This .zip file will not only get you Liberty Gingerbread, but also get you updated to 2.3.3 (Gingerbread). The second is for users on the leaked Gingerbread. Hope this answers your question.
By the way, DX Bootstrap will work on Gingerbread. You should have to go to Settings/Applications/Development and uncheck "USB debugging".
So it won't matter what version of Froyo liberty I have? I can just flash straight to GB?
That is correct. First file, "Full Install", will get you both Gingerbread AND Liberty. Second file will get you Liberty for users already on leaked Gingerbread.

One last question, does the toolbox automate the process after the zip file is downloaded or will I have to go through clockwork manually and wipe data/cache and install zip?
I think it does take you through the process. However, I would install it manually, going through ClockworkMod Recovery (Bootstrap). Also, "wipe data/factory reset" 5 times then install from SD Card. It's always a good idea to do this to clean the heck out of the phone. Especially since you're upgrading to Gingerbread via a .zip file. Just talking from experience. Hope everything goes well.
By the way, it might take a while for the phone to boot, so make sure your phone is fully charged and give it like 10 minutes after it goes into the boot animation. Hope this helps.
If I already have rooted GB and I want to install Liberty, I will still be rooted after I install liberty correct?
Yes. In fact, that's how I installed it to try out the ROM. I was on the pre-released gingerbread, rooted, without any ROM. Then installed the 2nd file located in their 'nightlies'. It's ok, but I like Broodcomb 2.0. I'm sure once Liberty is fully up and running in Gingerbread, I'll switch over.

I was wondering why I could not do a back-up. Every time I tried to get to recovery I would have to pull or even once sbf. Thanks amzing how much info if you dig.
Hmm, not sure. I've been on Gingerbread now for a couple days without any issues backing up my data. Sorry to hear you're having issues. If anyone out there is having issues running Droid X Bootstrap on leaked Gingerbread, please respond.

Absolutly STUNNING rom. It's continued to be the best ROM I've come across. Each update that comes brings with it a smoother experience. I love my Droid X like I love getting a new phone each time.

The only issue I had with DX Bootstrap was during the actual installation of Gingerbread. It bricked my phone both times I used DX Bootstrap, but when I used D2 Bootstrap it worked perfectly.
Ok. I am a huge liberty fan but I went to the GB leak as soon as it was rooted. I would really like to go ahead and get back to Liberty GB but I have a question. I have never updated to the. 588 build. I am still running the. 573 build. Is the new Liberty GB compatible with that version?

Good question. The Liberty ROM Manager doesn't state specifically which version of Gingerbread you need to be on. So, with that said, I can't imagine that it would matter between .573 and .588. I'm sure what's important is that you're on Android 2.3.3. Any reason as to why you wouldn't want to jump on the latest build? I'm sure there were some fixes addressed on .588.
Just never took the time to SBF back to Froyo...... This build has been very good to me.

Similar here...I installed the Original Rooted and Deoxed Gingerbread....Used it for a couple of weeks while trying to decide if I wanted to update to the "Official Version"...Then the Liberty Rom came out.....installed it over the Gingerbread version I had....and all was well.....I can't say enough good things about the battery life on Gingerbread....it is double what I was getting before (Liberty 1.5)...
Also fwiw...I was not able to get the Liberty Automatic install to work..I had to Manually boot up the D2 bootstrapper and do the usual process from there.
Well, to follow up on my post, I took the plunge. Its only been a few hours but everything seems to be working very well. Decided this morning to just dive in and see what happens....... And, just in case someone has the same question I did, I installed directly over .573 rooted, non-deodexed, and experienced ZERO issues with installation. Latest nightly also installed with zero issues....

Is anyone running the Gbread 595 leak yet? I am thinking about trying it out this morning, as everything I read indicates it will be the launching point for what could be the official 596 release on the 13th.

I downloaded it yesterday, and am running liberty v.5 on top of it and I love it. It is really fast, and other than a few bugs with my contacts syncing up with facebook, I am having no problems.
Im gonna wait it out, till we get the official release... Apex2.0.0 is pretty sweet for now

Weird issue I am running into....
I upgraded to 588 with no problems from 340 Froyo. I used DroidX recovery to accomplish this. When I rebooted 588 I tried to go to 595. I tried using DroidX recovery but this did not allow me to boot into recovery...it only gave me a blank screen. When I got back to 588 I uninstalled DroidX recovery and then installed Droid2 recovery. I was then able to reboot into recovery and try to install 595. The install aborted saying it was looking for 3 arguments and got 4.
Any ideas? Which recovery should I be using thoughtout this?

Both recoveries (AFAIK) are the same clockwork recovery, it's just a different method of "bootstrapping" so that you can get into the recovery. Droid2 bootstrap works on gbread unless USB debugging is disabled, then droidx bootstrap works.
Sounds like you got a bad file.
Just redownload the file and it should work
Yes the one I downloaded yesterday was bad, and a new one was uploaded. I just downloaded the new one and am going to try again to move back up to 595. Once that happens I am hanging on til the 13th.
I would assume once this official update comes out then VZW will no longer support the DX with official updates. We really need to get Moto to unlock the bootloader for us, so we can continue to develop for the DX.

I have made it successfully to 595. I am having a problem with Gingerbreak 1.2, so I am betting there is something in 595 that doesnt allow it to root.

P3Droid released three different versions of .595: full stock, rooted and odexed, and rooted and deodexed.
You can try flashing one of the rooted .595 releases.

Yes it looks like the rooted ones will accept Gingerbreak. I may go back to .591 and hold there until the official OTA version comes out.
You shouldn't need Gingerbreak on the rooted ones, as they are already rooted.

So you're not running it at all then... lol. You downgraded it back to .591 when you installed Liberty.

Curious, I'm running .573 now, if I flashed the latest rooted & deoxed, do I really have to sbf back to Froyo before hand like I've read in other places? OR can I just flash over it and roll on?

Not having luck.
I tried to install, initially from my rooted deoxed stock .340 to rooted deoxed .595, first got a corrupted file report....would not upgrade.
Next got boot loop (repeating M), so SBF back to stock 340...Rooted and tried again with the same file and got a very unstable phone, reboots etc.
The only thing I can think of is that the phone was stock rooted but not deoxed, so when I tried loading the deoxed version it didn't like it? no idea.
I did a wipe before each load but can't seem to get it to work on my phone. My phone is very new.
SBF'd back to stock unrooted and I'll leave it like that to see if I can get the update from VZW.
I believe you have to start at .588 (or .573) then flash .591 over it, then flash .595 over it.

Not completely accurate.. I went from .588, to .595 without any adverse effects. Phone is a bit snappier than before too, app drawer scrolls more fluidly, etc.
Looking to just one click and install a stable rom(cm7?) on my buddies droid x.. any of u guys know of a one click for droid x and the best available rom for droid x.. I'm not looking for fanboy roms here just want the best all around average user experience.

Check out that sticky. Has all the information you need. Hard to give an opinion without being a fanboy, so just read on up and decide for yourself. BTW, cm7 is not very stable for the droid x, so you might want to look at alternatives.
Z4root in the link. I don't think you can install cm7 on the DX due to the locked bootloader.

I would recommend liberty or apex rom, had them both before and really liked them. Currently running the team black hat .595 rooted and deodexed. I froze all the bloat, changed the boot logo and animation too. Probably just depends on what level of customization you are happy with.

CM7 isn't available on the DX so you're SOL on that one.
The easiest way to root is (as previously mentioned) z4root which is all done on t he phone itself, you just need to grab the .apk from the XDA forums here.
Personally I would recommend Fission over Liberty but that is only because my DX doesn't seem to always play nice with some of the Liberty tweaks. Fission 2.6.1 (Froyo 2.2.1) hasn't been updated in a while but it is very solid, very fast & has excellent battery life (when paired with SetCPU.)
If you want to go the *leaked* (meaning it isn't done yet) Gingerbread route, there is the TBH (TeamBlackHat) stock releases or you can also check out Liberty Gingerbread (which I've been running for the past couple of days). So far so good with Liberty GB but battery wise I think its better on something like Fission.

Did u ever get root permisions to work on titanium backup and how?... Root is workin for things like root explorer addfree amd bootstrap but I cant get root permisions on titaniumbackup?

And have stuck with Liberty ever since switching to it.
Currently running liberty gingerbread 0.5 actually...and even as a beta it seems to be running flawlessly.
2.01 is on froyo, and is a stable version if you'd prefer that.

Liberty 2.0.1 is the best user experience. Plus they have a supported and free toolbox. Z4 root works.
Ok, so I have a question for u guys if u don’t mind. My buddy has a droid x that he is wanting to flash custom roms on. I have a htc evo and I have quite a bit of experience when it comes to that phone but im completely clue less when it comes to the droid x. He has ran z 4 root and is fully rooted and has a custom recovery but he was saying something about he needed to deodex the files on his phone before he can flash a custom rom which sounds weird to me. If any one could help me help him I and he would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

That is wrong actually...you'd only need to do that if he wanted to keep the stock ROM & just theme it. If he wants to flash a different ROM then all you'd have to do is drop the ZIP file onto the root location of the SD card & wipe cache, wipe data, wipe Dalvik and then install the ROM (like you would on any other ROM via CWM.)

Exactly. That's what I was thinking. I tried telling him that the stock rom would have to be deodexed in order to flash a theme but since he was fully rooted and he had a custom recovery he should be able to flash a rom but he wasn't listening. Fission is indeed 2.2 (2.2.1 to be exact) and (on my phone) it works fantastic...Liberty and a few others aren't as friendly some apparent reason.
Liberty is the most active I would say but b/c they do a lot of tweaks, some phones (like mine) are finicky with those tweaks. Their Froyo release (2.0.1) is solid & their (leaked) GB mod isn't half bad either.
CWM does work, you just have to apply the Droid X Bootstrap Recovery installed & run the bootstrap in the app then reboot in order to get to the CWM interface.
So that cwm business sounds annoying do I have to do that everytime? Is there a working recovery for this phone such as amon ra? As I mentioned before fission includes one correct? Can the fission recovery be used to flash other roms? Also is there a 2.3 update coming for fission?

It's not as bad as it sounds to honest, it takes just as long on my wife's Dinc (running CM7.0.3) to hold down power, choose reboot then choose recovery to get into CWM. The bootstrap app is free (just gotta search online) or you can support Koush (the dev) by buying it in the Android Market ($2.00).
That's the best the Droid X can do to get into CWM b/c of Motorola locking down the bootloader. The only ROM I know of that lets you boot into recovery is Liberty *BUT* it honestly is faster using the dedicated bootstrap app.
Not sure about Fission going to 2.3 however not much has been updated on Fission since 2.6.1 (based on 2.2.1) was released but my guess is that it would however get updated to Gingerbread. GB on the DX is not *officially* out yet so all the leaks at this point are still just leaks...and all the GB-based ROMs are based on potentially unfinished leaks. It does run (really) well but it still is running a handful of Motorola services (even Liberty GB is) and I prefer as close to AOSP as possible...which is why I always go back to Fission 2.6.1.
Seeing 60-75MB of memory used (instead of 100+MB) in "running services" with (near) AOSP ROMs makes my inner OCD geek happy
Update 4.5.5.621 is live and breaks the ability to SBF back to an earlier version.
Only take the update if your willing to lose the ability to SBF. A fix is in the works but there is no ETA.
If you decide to update, there is no way to root, but OTA Root Keeper can be used to retain root.

No, but be aware that you will not be able to return to .605 or earlier, and you will lose root unless you use OTA Root Keeper.

I was on stock .605 with 1 click root then updated with the .621 OTA and after it was done I still had root. Verified by running Root Explorer and Titanium Backup.
Update: After reading a response to this post I decided to try and see if I could get root access with any new apps that were not installed prior to the .621 update and I have discovered that I cannot. So user trebuchet76 (the one that had questioned my results) had the right suspicion that I didn't really have root anymore but rather the apps I had installed prior to the .621 update that had root kept it after the update but new apps will not get root access.

A few questions:
- can I update without flashing back to stock .605 (understanding I need to use OTA root keeper to keep root access)?
- once I do that, will I need to flash Liberty back on the phone again?
Basically, my DX was a total piece of crap until I switched off the Verizon stock .605 update. I would rather not lose the freedom I have now and be forced to stay with Blur and whatever other bloatware is installed by Verizon. In all likelihood I'll be upgrading in a few months anyway, and Liberty has made my phone not only tolerable, but fun again. I'd rather skip the update entirely than go back to the stock ROMs from Verizon.
Actually, my next phone choice will probably be based on how easy it is to root... ;-)

Don't update! You won't be able to flash Liberty, and you won't be able to flash back to .605 to install Liberty.
If you update there is no going back. Ever.

What about a hard reset. Then root shut off ota then sfb 605 re_root shut ff ota again ? Could this work?

If you are on .605 or below disabling the OTA Updater will keep you from updating, but once you update there is no going back.

i hadn't seen this thread when I took the ota. tried to sbf using rsd lite 4.8 and the following sbf files, 2.3.34, 4.5.596, and the latest 2.3.4-4.5.1. found the last one through a Google search, it said it would work but it doesn't. so my old dx is currently out of commission. i wanted to use it as media player but i guess that's not going to happen right now.

The .621 SBF should work. Make sure your battery is charged and try SBFing again. If RSD Lite doesn't work try using Linux.

it still failed and now battery is too low to program and dx won't leave bootloader with battery in.

You have to use RSD 5.4 or higher with the .621 sbf.
OTA Update
Appears that keeping my .605 is a good thing, how do I disable the updater??

is there a way to charge the battery? only bootloader screen comes up with battery in, says code corrupt, battery too low to program.

You can strip the red and black wires in a USB cable and place the exposed copper to their respective battery terminals while the battery is in the phone.
This will allow you to SBF the device.

Just thought I'd share this.............
So yesterday I figured I try to get root back and if anything it would brick the phone and there was an sbf to get it back. At least to .621 stock. Well I did the one click root ( droid3 i believe it was, with of course with droid 2 bootstrap ). So it put my phone back into clockworkmod and I was able to wipe everything including the dalvic cache and restored my phone to a backup I had from stock .605 that was rooted but no rom installed. It actually worked no brick, no nothing. So I ran the D2 bootstrap and went back into cwm and restored to another backup I had with liberty 2.0 running.....and that also worked. Now, I was surprised it actually worked so I went into about phone and confirmed! It did say .605. So I was ecstatic!
I was prepared to brick my phone (which wouldn't be the first or second time anyway) but glad it all worked out. Now im back to being rooted and running 4.5.605.

holy **** it worked with rsd lite 4.8 after wiring split USB to battery. you are awesome.

I'm on CM4DXGB, the only update's I will EVER take again for my DX is the ones the ROM devs put out, screw Moto's crap!
