Another New tablet file manager
Check it out.
Have to say just downloaded it, but it looks very nice.
Open a folder and if there are folders inside this they show in another pain, and so on...
Hope you like

Looks nice, I personally like File Manager HD for casual browsing/file exploring, very easy to use and allows you to bookmark folders into a side panel for quick access.
Still need Root Explorer for the more powerful options, however.

Will file manager HD do the same as root explorer? Still learning this system. Thanks
I have both on my A500, and while File Manager HD is awesome for searching for files and general moving/shuffling of things, it has no root option, so you can't change permissions on files if you want to. I have Root Explorer strictly for that reason. If you aren't rooted, then I'd just go with File Manager HD, its got a bit better UI and looks pretty classy and will do anything you would need it to do. But if you are rooted, or are planning to root your tablet, get Root Explorer for that.
As a personal choice, I mostly use ES File Explorer, it has a root option and is almost as nice to look at FM HD.
Hope that helps.
+1 ES file explorer, looks good, tablet optimized... kinda... and root support!!!, it's free goddam!!!

+1 on ES as well. I use my desktop as a file server for my Tab
MK
I use File Expert, which is free, has root access and also supports transfer of files to and from the tablet via wifi and over the internet. I have Root Explorer on my phone and I transfered it to the Iconia, and there has been a time where it was more convenient to use than File Expert, but in general, I am very satisfied with it. Plus, it's free.
Just a thanks
Thanks to all that posted. I have been really tacked out getting this tab the way I want. (Nub). Good thing got laid off last week, now have much time to play.

Hehe, free is always good!
I can't seem to find where you look at folders on the Nexus 7, am I missing something? On my galaxy S2 I can open up and go into all the folders available on my phone but I cant see the icon to do this on the Nexus 7?
you can get a file explorer app from the play store for free. astro file manager and ES file explorer are two good ones

Strange its not included by default, thanks.
Never had any file apps on any of my android phones before, that seems like a Samsung thing.

Google has said that they don't want to create an OS that requires the user to need a file explorer.

Lack of file manager has been a trend in general; I don't think you can even get one on Windows Phone unless you unlock.
Solid Explorer
At first I thought I was just missing something when I couldn't find the explorer. It became essential when some videos I bought over didn't show up in the download folder, so I installed AntTek Explorer. Seriously, ANYTHING would have been better than nothing. I understand not always needing it, but it's good to have the option. At least we can download one easily enough, so it's fine.
Nexus7 2012 Help pls
I've used Motorola for the past 2 years and am able to connect via USN to my Win7/64 bit system with ABSOLUTE EASE.
I am dumbfounded because I am NOT able to view NEXUS files/directories on my PC.'
When I connect the USB- I only see DCIM and Camera. (If I selected Camera MTP).
If I selected media Device which is the default, I see nothing in PC File Manager.
This is very disappointing because I'd really like to see files on the PC, because typing and moving and renaming is so much easier.
Yes, I know I can see files using Android File explorer, etc.
I am preparing to root my phone, as I did the Razr, and wanted to back up files using Helium (old Carbon), until I get it rooted and can use my paid for Titanium Pro.' --- So, where the devil will the backups be stored? Going back and forth between tablet and PC is odd to say the least.
I thought Nexus was the bomb for allowing users to totally manage their devices. Guess u have to have tiny fingers, great eyes, and LOTS OF Patience!
Any help or comments is very much appreciated.
As I am using a custom font the Samsung My Files is showing little weird scaled fonts, so I need to switch to some alternative app. What options are there, like as simple and less cluttered as My Files?
Thanks in advance.

You might try Astro File Manager. I don't know how it will act with font issues but, it allows app backup ( not data) without root and is a good file manager.
Hi,
Personally I really like FX File Explorer, it has also a Root Access option, so it's quite handy. And there's Astro too, recommended by the other user.
All the best,

Solid Explorer.
if you've ever used a little known OS called Microsoft Windows, you might be familiar with how exploring and handling files works. especially how convenient dragging and dropping is, right-click to create new content whether it be a new folder, notepad, zip archive, etcetera.if you ARE familiar then you're going to LOVE solid explorer. even placing folders, pics, items, etc on the desktop itself. it can read and handle even more than Windows itself! (I know!), think notepad++ baked in. you have 2 file windows set apart by a swipe left or right, you can navigate to x directory on one, swipe right and go to y directory on the other. just as you would view 2 different file windows on a computer, and so naturally if you want to drag and drop between two windows you can by literally dragging and dropping.
landscape mode shows both windows at the same time for a near parallel windows experience!
lastly just as in Windows, if you have a Google Drive/DropBox/Box/whatever else is out there folder on your desktop or left tab in Windows file explorer, you can also get that gets, so you can literally navigate/ drag and drop items/folders from or to your Drive/DropBox whatever, more natively than the Google Drive app, or even the Google Drive website on your computer!
I can't tell you enough how much I rely on Solid Explorer. it's a lightweight smooth hella feature rich mini desktop inside your phone. it's apps like these that make me not need to own a computer. seriously.

Thanks a lot guys. I forgot about this topic and found Solid Explorer with my own searching, it's indeed awesome. But that FX File Explorer is great too. I just wish Solid Explorer has an option to show both External SD and Internal SD on portrait, like it does on landscape. And FX is great, but I found that I spend a little more time with it, because there's no sliding option to toggle between Internal and External SD, so I have to go back to main screen and then enter either, still it's nice. I think I'll stick with Solid, but as a free app FX File Explorer is awesome.

I'm looking for something like this: https://www.pushbullet.com/. It requires Android 4.0 or higher, so this itself won't work, but I'd love to have a one click send-to-nook app that I can use to send stuff from my laptop without a cable (especially for pdfs). I was never able to get Gapps working, so emailing myself won't do it. Anybody know of anything similar? Thanks!
Neat idea--less cumbersome than Dropbox for that purpose. How about something like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smarterdroid.wififiletransfer
Says it's compatible with my Nook--doesn't mean it will work. There seem to be a few similar. Google "wireless send file to android app"
Meanwhile, I need to look at that
Update: I tried the app and I like how it works...but: when I transferred a book into the internal My Files folder it did not show up in the Library, even after a refresh. Under the My Files tab it did appear but could not be read. So I tried a transfer to the My Files folder on the sdcard. That showed up in the Library right away. Not sure if the process can be tweaked, but it's worth looking at more closely. It may be worth noting that ES File Explorer has an ftp interface (news to me but I found it) but it's not as user-friendly as the WiFi Transfer app.
If you have a dropbox account you can use dropsync instead of the official app, it can sync entire directories so it works much like the desktop client.
However, it doesn't do direct over-the-wifi transfer, so perhaps that's not what you're looking for.
Try airdroid, not exactly one click but drag and drop

I'm looking for a way to copy an application from one device to another? I picked up Minecraft Story mode with the Season pass when it came out, all available episodes install on my Phone and Tablet just fine but my Shield will only run Episode 1 (Presumably as that's part of the install from the Google Play store) and episode 2 is still showing as purchased, coming soon.
Telltale aren't even responding to my support tickets and it looks like other users are having the same issue with the Shield.
With that in mind, I was hoping there might be a way that I could copy the files for episode 2 over to my shield to make it work... any ideas?
Maybe install TiBu on the SATV and give it a shot that way? You'll have to be unlocked and rooted to do so, but it might be worth a try.
I used to copy the apk from the source device onto a network share using solid Explorer and open it up on the shield.
Now I use HALauncher which has functionality to push installed apps from one device to another. You just need to install it on both devices I'm not sure if it requires root though.
I use FTP server to copy from my phone and laptop http://nvidiashieldzone.com/index.php/shield-android-tv/tutorial-ftp-server-on-shield-android-tv/
Thanks for the suggestions, Its not the APK I necessarily need as that downloads from the Google play store. Its the additional files that get installed as part of the process I need to find and copy.
Clearly I don't know a lot about the android file structure but I was basically picturing a folder somewhere that had a file (or Files) for each episode. Given each episode is about 700mb, Id have assumed there's 2 files of 700mb each for each episode.
Finally got my response from the TTG Support agent this mornig, they basically said they dont know what the issue is.... what a cop out.

Theres an app called DiskUsage, that lists all your files according to size, might be easier to find them using this app, i think external storage needs root thought

Try using ES File Explorer, on the main page where it lists images, videos, apps, tools, hard disk(s). Tap on the top right hand section labeled "Apps," (it's labeled with a green Android robot icon). From there, scroll to your Minecraft app and long press it to select, once selected, hit the double Android icon on the top toolbar to backup the app into apk format. Then go back to the main screen inside the file explorer and select your main storage (usually labeled sdcard0), then find backups folder, open that and in there open the app folder. Once in the app folder find a copy of your Minecraft in apk form. You can now move this file anywhere you wish. You can also choose to extract the files in the apk file by tapping on the three vertical dots icon for a drop down menu, and selecting extract. Also, you may want to grab the "games" folder found in /sdcard0 directory. This folder is where Minecraft app saves your game progress (you can copy and/or move this folder anywhere you wish).
try this
es file explorer is no longer available on google play store. load apk from your phone to a usb drive first. then, download and install mi box apk installer on your shield and install all apks that you just copied.
