Hi all expert and senior
I am currently using Dexter's new PRIMEE p9-3 ROM.
And now I plan to flash the kernel suggested by him.
I never install kernel before, so I want to make sure I have the correct steps before I start the installation.
1. Download picasso-hc-kernel-picasso-hc-kernel-master.tar.gz into SD.
2. Reboot into recovery.
3. Wipe cache and cache.
4. Flash the picasso-hc-kernel-picasso-hc-kernel-master.tar.gz
5. Install PRIMEE_AcerIconia-p9.zip
6. Install primee-patch-p9-3.zip
7. Reboot.
1 more question, can I use the tar.gz file instead of zip file??
.tar.gz? I think this file is a source, usually kernels and ROMs come in .zip
Check again that kernel thread and see if you can find a zip file.

Apologies if this question is fundamentally stupid, I am a noob and have never tried modifying a ROM.
My question is if I can copy a CWM kernel zip file contents into a CWM ROM zip file and flash my phone without breaking / bricking my phone.
Background Info
I typically try and run the latest leaked stock ROM.
At the moment it is EH17.
I swap out the kernel for the plus kernel so that I can run ext4
I'm looking to start trying out some themes
I recently watched qbking77's video on how to uninstall a theme
Its essentially just just re-flash your CWM ROM
I would like to be able to flash without having to swap file systems every time.
Will extracting the ROM zip, overwriting files with kernel zip contents, rezipping, and flashing my phone cause problems?
Thanks for any help you can offer
Hmm, if you are just running a stock rom, you dont need to uninstall anything. You can just download a EH17 theme (or whatever type of ROM you are on), boot into CWM, wipe cashe and dalvik cashe 3 times each and then choose install from sdcard and choose the theme you want to flash.
Now if you want to try another one after that, do the same process. Wiping the cashes and flashing the theme is all you need to do.

Bro, is this europe firmware?
yes, exactly..
Its my current ROM now..
Total noob.
Is there a recommended how-to doc that walks a noob through this process? I found this one:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1379650
but it's not for devil and I'm not sure of the differences.
Follow the instructions in that walk-through, and once you have a working ICS rom (might I recommend SlimICS 4.2?) you can just download the devil kernel zip onto your SD card, boot into recovery (3 button salute), clear cache and dalvik cache, and flash the new kernel.
same itudive
Thanks for the tips.
I've only flashed with odin. How do I flash from devil from the SD card?
Once you've flashed the cf-root tar file from Odin, the recovery image on your phone will be replaced with a ClockworkMod recovery. Most ROMs, kernels, and other tweaks are packaged as flashable zips that you apply through CWM recovery.
LMGTFY: http://www.theandroidsoul.com/how-to-flash-zip-files-using-clockworkmod-cwm-recovery-on-galaxy-s/
So if you follow the HOWTO you originally posted, you'll have already used CWM once to flash your original ICS ROM (the stock kernel of which is pretty good). Once you've done that, you can download a flashable zip of Devil kernel (probably ~5MB, called Devil3_0.79_i9000_CFS_BLN_CMC_20120618.zip or something of the sort). Then boot into recovery, wipe cache, go into advanced and wipe dalvik cache, go into "install zip from sdcard">"choose zip from sdcard", select the devil kernel zip you downloaded, wait for it to install, then choose reboot system now.
Hi To All,
Im a new member to xda, but i have been lurking in the shadows for a couple of weeks now i am starting this thread to provide the things that i have learned about using the stock Lupus ICS/GB Kernel by wedges this is the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2167766
i would really like to say thanks to him he had done a great job.
So some issues i encountered while using the kernel
1.) Cant Create A Nandroid back up: so i flashed LuPuS-Stock-ICS/GB-v1-480p.img and flashed Krisdee's rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2161560 (thanks krisdee one of the best ics roms for my play so far) but i could not create a nandroid back up i tried everything fixing partition/wiping dalvik cache etc.. after a day of troubleshooting i found out that the way to create a back up with this combo kernel + rom is to use the TWRP recovery instead of CWM Wedgess has the instruction on how to select recovery on his kernle on his OP. i was able to create a successful back up without getting the failed to back up /system image.
2.) Install Zip file failed in TWRP: so now i was already using TWRP to flash zip files but some files were having error during installation saying failed/ found a fix on this one as well what i did was uncheck the check the check zip sign and also check md5sum successfully installed those files. However there are zip files that i really could not install so i decided to Revert back to CWM recovery was able to install the zip files correctly however some of those files that was not installing in TWRP but installed on CWM successfully caused broken system.ui and boot loops TIP: if its not installing in TWRP even with all options uncheck it may not work properly and may not have proper permission to set for your ROM.
3.) Mount SD CARD: Not working on TWRP Found a fix on this as well just install latest drivers from the latest flashtool
Hope i Helped ( Please correct me if i have made any wrong move on this post)
here is also the link for the latest flashtool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351299 all credits to these great devs much respect
Hi,
I have e400 rooted and cwm recovery installed.
I downloaded the rom in zip format.
Upon opening the zip i found a file named "boot.img"
Now i guess this boot.img file is kernel.
Can someone please tell me how can i install this kernel ?
I would really appreciate if someone gave step by step instructions to install custom rom.

You don't have to exctract the zip...you just need to wipe data,cache,dalvik-cache,and the flash the .zip of the rom...
Sent from my LG-E400 using XDA Free mobile app
You boot into cwm then wipe date factory reset and wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache then install the ROM(zip form) then reboot system.
