So you all know the big things Touchwiz updates, but here's all the lil' stuff they don't advertise. I was fortunate enough to visit the event and grab a T-shirt. Basically a lot of the stock apps are kind of revamped.
The video player now makes smaller videos full screen, it has the option to make your video look warm, cool, or normal, and even bookmark spots while you're watching.
The Click sound when closing the tablet sounds different, a lot cleaner and realistic.
They've added a file browser so no need to use a 3rd party one.
World Clock, a 3D globe world clock that you can literally spin and see dark and light sides of the world, pretty cool.
The screen, when held upside down, will no longer go black, and turn back on upside down, it will now rotate 180 just like its ipad bretheren...
Thats the Jist of what I can remember.
One question I had and was wondering if anyone could answer, is that
they've added an option in the wireless tab labeled, Kies via Wifi. I loaded up Kies on my macintosh, and clicked that option, it scans my wifi but never recognizes any devices. anything I should know on how to get that to work?
The included file manager is great. It far better than the junk you see in the market.
Also they added a great task/RAM manager app in the mini bar.
I am wondering if it's similar to Kies Air? If that's the case you won't need Kies installed on your Mac since all communication takes place within desktop browser. Simply launch the app on your device and it will give you a URL to enter into your desktop browser. It really is a very cool app

Was "quick controls" in the webbrowser added by the Touchwiz update? I don't remember seeing it before. It's in the browser settings, under labs, you can then use the browser in fullscreen, hiding the tab bar and the url bar. The browser is then controlled by swiping from either side. Here's a screen:

Sadly I don't think thats what it is,
- it says "Wi-Fi Devices on [your wireless network's name]
- then it will Load a bit and eventually say "No Devices"

You must be kidding. We are talking about file manager for the tablet not a network file manager. Quite funny. Also, ES File Manager is a VERY crude app and the UI is not optimized for tablets. Its a pain to use. On the other hand the file manager that comes with TouchWiz is fully designed for the tablet, its VERY intuitive, very easy to use, and has a FAR superior UI and navigation. You must be kidding because no logical person would have posted what you did.

I was just going to mention this. If you use ES File Explorer you have to cut and paste to this stupid, crude TAB. Then from this stupid tab you copy to the locations you want. ES File Explorer is such a crude painful app to use.
IMO jeandujardin01 is just trolling. Nobody with any logic would post something like that and be serious.

How so? ES File Explorer is lightyears ahead. Especially with the fact that you can manipulate the files with root access (i.e. copy/delete files in the system/app folder). Not to mention the tons of other options it provides over the basic File Manager.

Does the SGS II have NFC (Near Field Communications) Support?
Answer:
P-Eazy said:
I have an email from Samsung claiming that no models worldwide will support NFC, I have posted it earlier in this forum. Samsung Korea have also confirmed that NFC capabilities will be included in new uSIM or MMC technology, it has therefore been left out of their phone models.
The extra thickness of the SGS2 in Korea has nothing to do with NFC, they have an extra chip/antenna on board to connect to high speed internet services.

what is the biggest microsd card i can put in this thing. What do the 'classes' mean? which class is recommended?
Answer:

32GB
The classes refer to the speed the card can read & write date.
The greater the class the greater the speed.
Classes start at 2, then 4, 6, 8 & 10.
However not all manufacturers class rating is equal in speed.
i.e. A Sandisk Class 2 is greater in speed to a Kingston Class 4.
My favorite card is the Sandisk 32GB Class 4.

The Samsung App 'MiniDiary'.
This is very similar to the version Samsung put on the SGS.
Whilst it looks great it does have one major flaw..... You can not save the cards you add to the diary.
As such a fresh factory reset deletes all MiniDiary notes and photo's.
Question therefore reads ~ Has anyone found or can think of a way to recover the cards saved using MiniDiary?
If so it would be good to add this to the Topic here.

You could use something like titanium backup - or if you don't like that, you can just use something like root explorer to copy out it's data directory. Both requires root though, and I can't see a way around that...
The idea behind a diary app without internet syncing is terrible though, although I don't know of any that actually do sync...
EDIT: If you go into a diary entry, you can publish that one entry to facebook, or send as an email.. but yeah, hardly a backup.

Yeah, thanks Ryan. I did think Titanium and rooting would probably have to be the only option.
It was a long-shot to hope there could be a better way of syncing the data.
As you say, it is inexcusable in that Samsung provided a Diary App that you could not sync or backup.... They did it on the SGS and I complained to them then. Obviously no one listens or thinks deeper than the surface of using this App.

z4root will not work - only known method of rooting is flashing a different kernel. Hopefully someone finds an exploit...
As far as diary apps, there doesn't seem to be any internet syncing diary apps in general. So maybe nobody has thought of syncing with a blog or something yet... weird.
Maybe I should make a diary app that syncs back and forth to google docs or something, haha.

There is Journal - Orange Diary which has Import/Export to Google Docs and Backup as well.
It also allows you to add photo's similar to MiniDiary but with Journal you can add as many photo's as you want, plus audio notes as well.
However, it doesn't have the same facility as MiniDiary to link your photo's directly to a map which is a boom, plus I rather like the eye-candy of MiniDiary.
You make a Diary app Ryan that does all this and I'll pay.

I started on the wrong foot, but finally found that it likes Android 1.6 Apps!
- Angry Birds!!!!!! (with music and usable, albeit, it just takes a little time to Start just Once Initially, the everything is quite normalish after initial start..... But the initial Splash screen looks so cool on the smartwatch it is worth the wait).
- Dolphin Browser
- Opera Mini Browser
Hints:
- To download anything in Opera Mini, select the DCIM folder, it seems it does not like to download on initial root. Warning, it is not fast downloading.
- When typing remember that it is a good idea that when typing in the small keyboard, that if you are fast, and keep pressing a key and notice it was not the one you intended, before releasing the key, if you do it fast enough, you can move your finger towards the correct key before releasing your finger. This is much faster than having to delete a wrong entered letter. If you keep pressing and fail to move fast, it would suggest alternative based on the wrong letter and you can no longer move to next, but if you click elsewhere, it won't type the wrong letter.
- Dolphin Browser is great because you can define shortcuts for common menus (remember you don't have a menu key), with its gestures. I made a gesture for settings and other to go to downloads and for full screen!
More Apps come!!
Please Share your Apps!!!
More Apps!
- Aptoid works quite fine to install new apps.
- Backgammon Free
- Bazooka Rabbit works! (albeit, not all the screen appears, but it is playable).
- ES File Explorer
- .... more to try ...

I'd be interested to see how some apps work compared to my Motoactv. So some examples would be emulators such as gbcoid, snesoid and n64oid. Maybe some android games such as Hill Climb, and Hardest Game Ever. Apps, I dunno, maybe root explorer (or just explorer), a browser (I use boat browser mini), and mxplayer playing a video would be cool to see. Everything but the emulators I just got off the Google Play store. If you can't access the store on the I'm Watch yet I remember being able to take apps off my phone. Just download the app on your phone, then use a file manager to browse to /data/app/, then send it to your computer (I use bluetooth). I can send you the emulator apk's, just PM me your e-mail.
Use bluestack make it easier to grab the apk and download multiple apps at the same time,
Games or apps compatible with android 1.6 will have a much better chance of working...

go jkeyboard works
mobicalc

voice search kinda works, cant find netwrok connection. would like someone to get that working.

but there arent many people who are rooting and or doing things for the watch,. So if you can give me any ideas as to what to do to it or how I'd appreciate it,. Such as unlocking the bootloader

Well theres two ways to do it.
1. you can do the whole rooting process by getting the ADB software from imwatch and using super one click to root it then install it through a sideload manager.
2. you can download all the apks in there and go to the im market and get Sideload Manager app from there. Then you'd put the apks in the DCIM folder and go through the Sideload Manager and install it that way.
Note: You should disconnect from the pc when trying to install through sideload manager app for option two.

Agreed. It's kind of weird for an OS to not have the ability to manipulate files out of the box.
I love file manager HD (Tablet) by rhythm software. Handles everything I throw at it including multipart archives, and has text editor built in and lots of good functions. Think there's an ad version but was well worth paying for. You can also give it root permission in the options so you can use it like root explorer.

I haven't been able to find a decent root file manager that gives us a decent tablet-view yet.... would love to find one.

I wanted a sleek File manager with functions and it does what it says! Give the Free version a shot and if you like it then buy it and get rid of that ugly ad at the bottom (It doesn't work on Phones or Just my galaxy S2)
I discovered this problem earlier today after several days of testing. I had originally thought that the problem was with CM10.1 ROMs, but it now appears to be a Nova Launcher limitation (unrelated to ROMs).
I have been using Nova Launcher ever since it first appeared on the scene. It’s a great launcher and, regardless of the problem in question, I will continue to use it.
As many of you already know, Nova not only allows you to place shortcuts on your home screen(s), you can also create folders with shortcuts contained therein. App shortcuts are easy (using the drag-and-drop method); however, if you want file shortcuts, you need an appropriate file manager, such as Solid Explorer (my favourite), ASTRO File Manager, ES File Explorer, or Root Explorer, etc.
I have five home screens containing numerous app shortcuts, as well as quite a number of folders that contain both app shortcuts and many file shortcuts.
After more tests than I care to admit, I have been able to determine that Nova has a limitation on the total number of FILE shortcuts (not app shortcuts) that you can have on your home screen(s). For me, this limitation is 61 file shortcuts. If I have more than 61, and I then attempt to up-date my ROM (currently using CM10.1 Nightlies), Nova force closes the moment you reboot to your home screen. Nova boots properly after a ROM up-date if there are 61 or less file shortcuts.
Exception: If you never up-date your ROM, you CAN have as many file shortcuts as you want; however, the limitation takes effect the moment you up-date your ROM.
Caveat: Even if you ultimately bypass Nova Launcher, remove it from your device, re-install it, and then attempt to restore the shortcuts via your novabackup file, it won’t work.
To repeat, this limitation applies ONLY to FILE shortcuts. There does not appear to be any limitation to APP shortcuts. For example, I reduced my file shortcuts to 61 (allowed), and added another 20 app shortcuts to a sixth home screen (just as a test). There was no problem after up-dating the ROM. All file shortcuts were there, as well as the additional 20 app shortcuts.
While the 61 limitation applies to me, I’m not saying that it couldn’t be a different number for other users. I’m simply stating that other users should be aware of a potential limitation.

Jesus. Who would want so many shortcuts? Half of those I bet you barely use.
I suggest you emailing nova launcher with your beef.
I use nova launcher and it rocks.

I absolutely agree. Nova is the very best. However, I need the shortcuts. It makes my daily work life much easier to quickly access files when I'm with clients. And, yes, I do access about 80+% of them on a daily/weekly basis.
I've come up with a solution, though, using Solid Explorer (my favourite). It isn't exactly what I wanted, but it's almost as good.

I doubt this problem should be adressed to XDA, the limitation is app related, the dev has to know
I would also suggest you moving all your files to a folder you create, then shortcut that folder instead of each individual file
Damn that is ALOT of file shortcuts!

Thank you for your comments. I have already sent a note to the app developers. I was simply posting it on xda to let others know, as I first discovered the app via xda a couple of years ago.
On your second suggestion, I have already done that. Thanks, though.

I think it is cool when people use their smartphones in ways most don't think of...especially for their business.
Interesting find.:good:
Hello all. I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a file manager for use on my OP6T (any Android device, really) that has these features:
1) Multi-tab support
2) FTP support
3) Custom Gestures support (this is important to me)
The only file manager I've ever found that has all those features was ES File Explorer, which we all know was removed from the Play Store. I know it's still actively developed, but I'm looking for an alternative, if one exists. I've searched the web using the usual search terms, but nothing shows up. I really got used to being able to open new tabs, close tabs, navigate the filesystem, and many more things by just using gestures in ES.
You all are my final hope in locating another file explorer/manager with those features. My fingers are crossed! TIA
Solid Explorer, hands down. Best one I've found yet

I believe you missed the part where I said that I want the app to support gestures. As in custom gestures, not as in just swiping right to access the second panel.
Yes, Solid Explorer is good, but doesn't have gesture support. Thanks for your suggestion, however!!
