current OTA vs TW OTA - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

There is currently an OTA as most of you know that adds Google Video and locks unlocked devices.
There is also the new TW OTA coming out tomorrow.
Does anyone know how updates will work? I don't want to lose the unlocked bootloader but really want the TW and am afraid I'll have to get both to get the new TW.

I would suggest you wait for Devs to get their hands on the new TW & their new ROMs that come from it.

On Samsung's changelog of what's included in the TW update, it shows Google Video included in the package so I'm not sure how some people are getting it as a separate update unless they have a Google IO tab. http://www.samsung.com/us/article/galaxy-tab-10-1-updates

Has anyone received this that doesn't have an I/O Tab? Anyone that has a locked retail? I'm wondering if Samsung's sending this to serial numbers that didn't get locked during production.

I went back to stock yesterday in anticipation of the update tomorrow. I have a locked retail tablet and received the 11.2MB OTA so now I am on KG4.

I noticed the the samsung app did an update today, but didn't notice anything. Is this where the update comes from?
Thanks

Unlocked Hero on AT&T -- will I get updates?

So that's it-- will I get updates without hacking the phone since it's unlocked? I'm not really looking to hack, ROM, etc.
Also-- the locale I had to choose was definitely not the US. Philippines, Singapore and Thailand were my options... so far this hasn't caused me any problems. Does it matter?
Data & SMS/MMS are working great. I am in LOVE.
Finally, is there a way to disable the HTC theming? I love it the way it is but would like to get a better understanding of what is pure Android and what is the HTC theming?
Thanks and best regards,

I believe the Android phones currently on the market use an OTA (over the air) updating feature. Since AT&T does not have the Hero, they are not going to be providing updates. To get updated software/firmware, you would have to download and install a ROM, either from here or HTC's website.

If you are fine running a non-US locale, then more power to you. The first thing I did when I got my Hero was to install a custom ROM on it which included an application which let me set US as an locale.

Thus far, the GSM Hero has never received an OTA update, though the facility does exist. The update to 2.73 was delivered as an RUU that you needed to manually load onto the phone. I expect future updates to be delivered the same way.

OTA Released (Root for manual update) - Flash on Market MAR18 (Leaked)

Motorola XOOM users on the Verizon Wireless network: starting tonight, a maintenance release is rolling out to you in phases, so watch for a notification on your device that will tell you when it’s ready for download. The update includes required enhancements to support Adobe® Flash® Player 10.2 (coming soon); it also includes a fix for a bug we identified with Daylight Savings time, so be sure to install it!

how will us with wifi only get this?
Any update is good news at this point I think. I wonder if there is any harm in updating, ie will it remove the ability to root and what not? I wish they would provide more details on what exactly the patch does. Also, it clearly says on the Verizon network, what about those not on it and are only on wifi?

MY droid always popped up updates even when I was only on wifi. I imagine we'll all get it or someone will post the update.zip anyway.
I'm curious if the Tegra 2 versions of flash (10.1) floating around will have something to interact with, and start functioning. They have with everything else. As soon as I get the OTA (no 3G), I have a folder full of them in my Dropbox.

Question of the day. No dialer :/
yesssssssssssss
Glad to see an update but there is nothing listed to get excited about except a possible problem with the upcoming daylight savings time switch. Who cares about the flash update since it does not actually include it. But this will be a good test run to see how the updates are sent out and applied.
Cann't wait for the update to start

You can force a check by rebooting. Not the best method, but it works.
Why do unlocked xooms need to get relocked?
I understand why you need to be on stock boot.img but i don't understand why you need to have the device relocked to get the update.
It makes no sense.

According to the system update tab this didn't happen in 3 reboots since the announcement. Still last check at 5:20. Really want to see if any of the 10.1 Tegra versions work after this. I've been frantic to have Flash lately (PlayOn/Netflix).

It might have a minimum time between checkins. Mine said 9:20am, then showed current time for last checkin when I rebooted.
So would it be fair to say that those of us who have rooted should wait until this update is released to see if in fact we really do need to revert back to stock/locked condition? Because I'd really be pissed if we had to lose all of the data on our Xooms just for this update, when very few of us have actually changed anything with the boot.img, etc. I mean back when I first rooted my N1 but before I flashed custom ROMs, I never had to wipe back to stock to receive OTA updates, so why would that be the case here??

Off my boss at work! - I guess it has the US ICS on it... but its really nice.
Any problems...
Are there any downsides to using a US rom?
For example:
Keyboard Layouts
Access to Apps from the Play Store
Access to other content from the Play Store
Other regonalization issues
On the flip sides, apart from the benefits of ICS itself, what would I gain from switching to a US rom as a UK user?
That's a pretty generic question, sorry, but I'd love ICS and would wait, but if there's no downsides I'll get it now.
Thanks

Made the same switch myself and glad i did
keyboard layouts - pretty much the same apart from the £ and $
Play Store - Not had any issues myself and the prices comes up in £
being on a US rom means your going to get ota updates quicker than the uk
I briefly installed the US ROM, but quickly changed to team EOS due to the US locale annoying me!
- US Keyboard Layout
- US date format
- US English spelling (Damn annoying with autocorrect!)
I also need to occasionally write in German, so the lack of other languages (except Spanish IIRC) was also a problem for me!
I have been running the US ROM since HC 3.1 - not had any issues really
I thought the UK language keyboard stuff was in ICS now? if not then I havent noticed an issue at all - market is still all english anyway - it doesn't go on ROM region for the apps
So at the risk of being stupid...
So at the risk of being stupid... I'm guessing it's possible to switch back should I hit any locale issues?
The way I read it if I flash to a US Rom, I should be able to flash to the UK variant when it is released (should I decide to bother).
Assuming I do go ahead:
1. If I stay on the US Rom will OTA updates work?
2. Similarly, if I can then switch to UK ICS, should OTA updates continue to work for this too?
Apologies for the newbie posts, I have been reading the boards for a long time, but what I've remembered in my addled brain has left me somewhat confused.
TIA.

There will be no Lollipop for US carriers until months after the international phones get it. There is a lot of back and forth between carriers and Samsung...this has always been the case and always will be. Whenever you see talks of a model getting an OS update and release date, it is ALWAYS the international version and then you may see "speculation" as to when "some" of the US carriers will start rolling it out.

I'm not talking about the 4.4.4 update, I'm talking other updates, 4.3, and I think the update that fixed moving apps to the SD card.
Plus, the 4.4.4 update is kind of pointless for the S4 right? Didn't Samsung make all the fixes in that update in the 4.4.2 update?
Awesome update, thanks for posting!

That is not correct. The international S4 got 4.3 2 weeks before Verizon and the only reason 4.3 was rushed to all devices was because it added Galaxy Gear compatibility. Sammy and US carriers wanted to make sure everyone bought phone and watch combos for the holidays. Verizon was the first US carrier to release... And I am sure all for monetary reasons. They had to release bug fixes soon after.
As of yesterday my lag free hangouts are now back to being laggy, not as bad but it's there again back to textra I go.

Thanks for the suggestion, that is always an option. TouchWiz Home is currently behind two versions on my device. I should be getting the June security update soon. I will check to see if it gets updated then. In the mean time, I was hoping someone from Canada could confirm if they have the same issue that I have.

You won't get it with June update. Btw I can download it through play store using Galaxy S6 and S8 Port rom.
Mine says the same on the play store, pretty messed up. On the latest version of TW home they have fixed the horrible lag when opening and closing the swipe up or down app drawer. everything seems to run just a little bit smoother.
heres the latest apk for those who are looking for it.
The update came in and it's working now. I wonder if Samsung may have been staggering the updates or there was some kind of delay caused by the play store.
For some reason, shortly after I did the update it went back to not being compatible and it has been that way since. It appears to still be the same version that I currently have but I wonder what will happen when the next update comes.
