Galaxy S II Rom Battery Reports - Galaxy S II General

Phones back, but CBA testing the rest, sicking with MIUI and ICS builds
First, a description of what is going to happen in this thread. I am going to be running a wide variety of roms (see list below). Running it for one full charge on my usage.
My Usage
I would class myself as being a medium user. I rarely use games, but use the internet a lot. I check XDA, every half hour or so, email in on constant sync, checking every minute or so. WiFi and 3G are always on.
**NOTE**
I cannot guarantee the exact same usage every day, this is a rough guide. Allow 2 hours leeway on each rom.
This is only a rough guide, to see whether some rom makers claims of amazing battery life are true. I will also screenshot the battery usage to show any battery draining apps.
Rom List
Click the rom name to view the post with stats, links to the rom thread are at the top of the stats post.
---MIUI---
---Cyanogenmod---

---Villain Rom---
---Cognition S2---
---Lite'ning---
---LeoMar75 Rom Revolution---
---Solar Flare---
---Sensation by Crysis---
---Stock KF3---
---Stock KG6---
List will be updated as I test more, but in theory, if this forum is arranged correctly, any not in the Origional Android Development section would probably have the same battery life.
CURRENT ROM IN TESTING: Lite'ning
Summary of findings
So far I have only tested the AOSP roms, and well, whilst officially CM7 lasted the longest, it also had the lowest screen on time, and dev-null, which lasted the shortest amount of time, had the longest screen on time. In summary for these, I would say there isn't really a difference in battery.
The big comparison will be between AOSP, Samsung based and Stock. I honestly don't think I'll find any difference between any samsung based deodexed roms, origional or not. As they are going to have the exact same core to them, if after testing 3, they have simmilar battery, I will skip the others to test stock, as this is better for the comparisons. I will test them again at a later date.

interesting topic. I think what may also be useful is to display the screen on time for each rom you test as this is probably what determines battery life the most IMO.

Please repeat at least a few of the tests, so it is possible to infer the variance of your measurement process.

It looks very interesting. It will be nice to see something like this. Good Luck with testing

I'm going to give miui a pretest after I've done the rest because cyanogenmod is lasting a lot longer, after 1 day 14 hours I still have 30% left
Will repeat tests once all are done
Swyped from my MIUI Galaxy S II

Look forward to this, i have tested battery life twice on Cognition 1.15 - 1.20 and 1.30, version 1.15 has the best battery life i achieved almost 29 hours, 1.20 comes in next almost 27 hours, 1.30 was disappointing i cant remember what (check the thread) but was nowhere as good as the other versions.
I have also just tested [ROM][03/08/2011][XXKG5] stock odexed + APM + NINPHETAMINE kernel 2.0.4_BLN ready by Sicopat and it has come in at an impressive enough 26 hours or thereabouts
Anyway ill keep an eye on this thread

can't wait to see all the results, very interesting topic.
Battery life is the only thing I am worried about.

Great thread! Can't wait to see the results, although I would have made the tests without Juice Defender.
Also, what kernel are you using?

I use whatever kernel is bundled with the rom. And it shouldn't effect it because it uses the same settings on all roms.

I saw the review of that Mugen 1550 mAh, you just get 3 h longer battery life.
With 3200 mAh the results are 3×standard 1350 mAh battery life.

And concerning the Mugen Battery, well they say 3 hours but considering the wear on this already year old battery (which is about 30% less than what it used to be when i first purchased), i am expecting a 5-6 hour gain. At least, those are my hopes

yea, it's amazing. but won't run juice defender so I just turn off data updates overnight and my battery stays basically where it was until klaxon wakes me up, then I enable data updates again and go for another day.
I could use a new battery, but aside from that I get more time from this rom than any other.

There seems to be a few small things that need resolving DK, but I am glad Elelinux is helping out as well now. Very different build styles but same goal. Feeyo took it down to the essentials, its very light. Just need Erasmux out of retirement now
I have 3d issues so might try reinstall as others don't get this. Fee usually finishes a new build while you download the most recent one! With Ele on board we might get 3 dl's a week!

gps: Always enabled (Remember, it only eats battery if its actually being USED)
3g: Always enabled
Wifi: Enabled if in range of wifi ive used before.
Auto sync on (juice defender and ultimate juice syncs every 30mins)
Stripped out any apps I dont use (including facebook, the new update killed my battery around 3hours faster than the old version so I uninstalled facebook altogether and use tweetdeck instead)
Aeroplane mode overnight.
Medium usage-
50 SMS a day. 30mins phonecalls. A few gmail notifications and replies. about 4hours web browsing (wifi). A few market updates. and some brief GPS usage (runkeeper or C:Geo)
Battery time:
Currently average between 36 and 39hours.
On Feeyos older 2.1 roms I used to get a full 3 days but kept it on 2g only, standard clock speed, and disabled tilt sensors.
(Edit- In case you can't tell, Im a battery snob lol. If an app is using too much battery I get rid and find an alternative I also only have 44apps installed )

If I have long calls, play any games or use 3g data more than 2-3 hours in a day I have to recharge (yellow/orange/red battery indicator <25%?).
Update your ROM dude! The new Froyd or Floyo (my favorite), either one with the newest Flykernel, will greatly improve battery life and performance. It's worth spending the time doing it.

[Benchmark] Battle for Battery Life

First and foremost, I would like to commend all developers, software engineers, modders, tweakers, designers that contributes to the betterment of our devices. GREAT JOB to ALL of you! Keep it up! Respect and Thanks to all!
There are so many ROMs out there that we can pair with so many KERNELs while we can choose to apply different MODEMs. Whether they be Stock or Custom, one thing remains important to us is our SGS2's BATTERY LIFE.
With so many people saying different things about the battery life.. this rom/kernel ate, doubled,f'd,saved my battery, while this modem somehow gave me more juice than that one.. so i'm sticking to this/that one.. Its all getting confusing and complicated. Problem is that different people's apps/usage/definition_of_usage varies.
So here I performed benchmarks to compare battery life as I try to make other things constant. Hopefully this is a start and others would also help me here.

Let the result do most of the talking. however that doesn't mean that a certain kernel is better. battery-wise, yes. but feature-wise I am not sure. Also, I have confirmed to myself the the biggest battery consumer is the DISPLAY!. Keep the whitebackgound up and charging via usb couldn't catch up. at least in my case.
I hope someone using other ROMs(VR, Cognition, Sensation, etc) could also share similar benchmarks.
My Tips when doing a similar benchmark.
- get a toggle to always ON ur phone. will never sleep and will not lock the screen. I used Widgetsoid.
- Don't play games. but if you really want to, play the same game on the same level/stage with the same duration of playtime.
- You can watch a movie. BUT, watch the same movie for each test.
- your device might be more app efficient than mine, doesn't matter. compare by percentage.
- target: linear slope in graph. would entail constant usage.
- use "Stablity Test" app to drain batt faster.. word of caution tho, this means your CPU will be running max speed. let your cpu rest after tests.
THANK YOU! I hope we get more info and results..
Thanks alot for this mate, we need more of these to compare as people are looking for more battery rather than speed. In my opinion I prefer speed.
I'm going to be flashing Cognition 1.50 tonight for my next theming project and I'm going to test Hellcat Kernel to see how the battery is there.
Great work.
i can give you some rough results from ROM/ROMS I HAVE USED
i have only had my sgs2 a few weeks and only really had time to test 1 ROM fully lite'ning rom with ninphetamine 2.02 and 2.05 kernals
on heavy use i was getting 26hours
i have just yesterday installed leomar revolution and altho going through the calibration process (i have calibrated , now just waiting for it to discharge so i can full charge again ) on ninphetamine 2.0.5, since calibrating 10hrs 10 mins ago with heavy use apart from the 5 hours sleep i have had im down to 20% battery which is not looking so good at the moment . after my full discharge and full charge i will be able to post more accurate , but looking at this its a huge battery drain compared to lite'ning rom . all the same settings are applied all the same sync times etc , wake locks seem to be better on leomar and everything else infact in beeterbatterystats , so i dont know why the big drain

LeoMar's ROM is fully Odexed which may cause the issues with Battery drain and he also uses a ROM Kitchen which relies heavily on his ROM which is probably why it drains like a b****.

There isn't much difference, deodexing makes your boot faster and increases speed.
Odexing is just leaving as is for compatibilty, like for example JKays Themes & EDT Tweaks you need an odexed ROM or a Semi-Odexed ROM.
It was kind of confusion to me until I learnt about it.

heavy usage can be very subjective. can you try before going to bed to sleep the ff so we can get really see how long you battery last when compared to others.
apply a white background on an empty homescreen if possible.
disable the screen time out. i used widgetsoid app for this.
adjust to highest brightness.
then just leave it on while you sleep.
the next day while you charge your phone, you can go to battery usage, take a screeny(home+power button), then upload it here.. dont forget to include your rom and kernel used..
Thank you! the more data the better!
Great mate!
Epic thread, thnx man! Much appreciated, just switched from Ninphetamine to Speedmod thnx to this thread.
Nice to see someone do this kind of tests. Im looking forward to see some results from the new Ninphetamine kernel 2.1.0.
Well i didnt compare the kernels but im running lite'ning rom 6.1 with Ninphetamine 2.0.5 kernel, lots of sms this weekend and lowest brightness tho but 5hours and 40min screen time, I dont think thats bad at all ?
switched between cf kernel and the one which comes with lightning mod 6.1 and i dont see a big difference
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
maybe on a heavy usage you can get that result but on stand by i got better result with ninphetamine even wifi was enabled.speedmod was consuming more power.
yeah.. on stand by of course we'll all get better results.. but I'm afraid that would take me days/weeks/ probably months to test how long battery would last on stand by.. I need to get at least 10% drop on stand by and rather take the estimates.. but again 10% drop on standby may take long..
ANYWHOO... New results added! Used Jeffrey_Speedfrey kernel
Thanks Man, that is a great info
please try It with 6.1 and give us the result if you have time
will do that after I test ninph 2.1.1 and speedfrey 3.0
Great.

Nexus 4 owners, what's your average battery life?

Just wondering how much battery life you guys are getting on average.
Please post battery life, screen on time, kernel, and ROM.
I charge my phone every night so my total time is usually 13-14 hours
Getting about 3.5 hours screen time with about 15% left (will post screenshots tomorrow, I've been flashing a couple new kernels and roms so my battery life is terrible today XD)
My best results have been on franco r93 and unofficial PUB build 5
There's already a thread about this.
Find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1992627

Battery Guide!!

Well I decide to start this thread for us, to have a guide about wich ROM are we using and the battery average drain. Feel free to post you battery screenshots, and of course your information.
ROM
Average time
Percentage
Any tweaks.
Thanks!! Lets build some usefull information.
Hi,
I can only report bat usage on two ROM's since only used two till now.
JELLYTIME by Randomblame
Average time: about 13 hours
Wifi constantly on, mobile data also, average calls time between 3-4 hours, average of 1 hour of internet browsing, no gaming at all
Although it is a very good ROM, for me battery up time was a half that has with a stock ROM. It drains about 4-5 % per hour on standby
Any tweaks: No tweaks
CyanogenMod 10.1 Nightlies / M-Series by Mustaavalkosta
Average time: about 20 hours
Wifi constantly on, mobile data also, average calls time between 3-4 hours, average of 1 hour of internet browsing, no gaming at all
Battery time for this ROM is superb, I think it's a far better than a stock ROM. If I don't use phone much it can go 24+ hours on standby (Actuly I'm planing to do little experiment, to see how much will last on stand by only)
Any tweaks: No tweaks
Sorry I don't have screenshots
P.S. I think you should change thread title, since this is comparison between ROM's it's not guide for anything
If you guys are going to do this, it may be good to set more factors in. I.e.: age of battery, if on data, reception strenght and so forth.
Sent from a dream.
Ok I 've got one of those 2450 mAh Gold battery's for my desire HD not sure if its the real thing or that high as it was only £7 on ebay but its better than my stock battery for sure.
I'm running AOKP 9/13 build with Sync on, Gmail push, some SMS ,Maps, internet, calls and running Android pro widgets for facebook and Greenify to kill Maps.
Today I have 57% battery after 9hrs 56m on battery
40 % screen
25% calls
15% standby
11% idle
6 % Maps
3% Android System
2% akmd (what's that?)
I think those stats are great and as good if not better than when I was running Mike's Android revolution HD 7.3.
Really pleased with AOKP very stable and no FC. Only thing is the proximity sensor works but sometimes must switch back on in a call, but I've heard this is a common problem with JB roms. I can live with that and I've heard of a recalibration app that might work.
BTW I use android pro widgets for facebook as I prefer it to facebook app and I'm sure it's better on battery life. Also less is more don't download to many apps, they bleed that battery with background maps and internet.

s4 (i9506 model) best battery life rom ans kernel

hallo guys. i search the best normal looking rom or and kernel for the i9506 model to have a longer battery life. atm my battery lasts only 8 hours with a new battery. im using cyanogenmod 14.1
I really don't think you can get more than 8 hours out of the S4.
Most people barely get 4 hours.
i remember times where i could use the phone for more then 15 hours at stock rom. im not a poweruser just watchin 1-2 times per hour at my phone..
i thought there is some better rom concerning battery times :/
Only with a bigger battery.
The maximum is 5 hours screen-on time you can get.
