Guys -
Bought an 07 from ebay. It was advertised as unlocked, a 16Gb model "from expansys". That was in the advert.
I've got it and I'm pretty happy with it. But the phone is quite clearly targetted at the German market, and starts up with a T-Mobile logo. It has a bunch of German-only applications, and IE defaults to a German search site. None of it really stops me from using the phone, so I'm not really complaining.
But is the "from expansys" bit a load of **** and bull, or did they genuinely sell models that were for the german market? I suspect it was a phone bought from TMobile in DE and then unlocked and sold on. Which is a little bit naughty really.
These are my numbers, are they current NoDo?
OS: 7.0.7392.0
Firmware: 2424.11.2.3
Hardware: 3.15.0.4
Radio software: 2424.11.2.2
Radio hardware: 0.0.0.800
Bootloader: 5.2.1.4
Chip SOC: 0.36.2.0
Thanks
These were sold on Amazon.DE for £170 I believe........
Hmm, that's a little irritating if true. Were they sold on Amazon.DE as unlocked?
I bought my 16 GB Samsung Omnia 7 from expansys-usa.com and it is from Germany.. it came with a german user manual... But mine dosent start with a T mobile logo like yours.. neither did I had any preloaded german application...
You can make sure yours is from germany by checking 'samsung network profile'.... if the list has a lot of profile ending with '.de' than its from germany..
i dont know what i should call my mobile? unbranded factory unlocked phone? i dont think its factory unlocked, i think expansys unlocked it before shipping it to me, because the seal was broken.. but neither does it start with Tmobile logo like yours so it is 'unbranded' i am sure....
Bought mine from ebay as well (German seller) and it too has the IE as default with the T-Mobile branding, but since that was advertised (and doesn't bother me at all) I have no problem with it. I think after Mango is released, none of your problems will stay unsolved (windows phone will be more open, maybe more customizable as well)
No, that's alright. T-Mobile in Germany doesn't lock their phones.
So you have an factory unlocked but branded phone.
I'd recommend to just flash the unbranded generic Firmware for your area. Then you'll receive all updates without having carriers mess with them.
Thanks everyone, all interesting stuff. As I said, doesn't bother me too much at all (well maybe apart from IE using a German search engine, which is a trifle annoying).
Any downsides to flashing with a UK unbranded firmware? Losing data/apps?
All the 16GB models in Germany came with the T-Mobile branding when they were first released.
This might have changed by now but when it was first released it was not possible getting one without the branding. No matter from which shop you bought it all of the inventory was branded. You can always get it flashed! Unofficially or officially.

I recently purcahsed a supposedly unlocked "new" softbank x01ht. I know it can't be new because to unlock it they would have to mess with it out of the box. I e-mailed the seller and he assured me it was unlocked and the OS was in english. I also found some other posts on this board questioning the legitimacy of these cheaper unlocked softbank phones. I'll give an update on whether its legit or not when it arrives on monday.
Just want to know if there are any American users of these softbank phones? Especially in California? Are there any issues with this phone on the t-mobile network? I am pretty new to the pocket pc/phone scene. I read through the FAQ on the wiki I just have a few more questions:
1. What exactly is the radioROM. Is it part of the main ROM or a separate ROM?
2. Is it safe to assume all HTC Hermes model phones are pretty much the same hardware wise and just differ in cosmetics? So if I load a HTC ROM on my softbank, it pretty much is a HTC phone in function?
daemonk, i tried my best to find out what are these devices' S/Ns, that seller didn't answer, would you tell us what is the S/N when it arrived?
sure. I bought mine on ebay btw. There was a thread previously on the same seller. The shipping tracking says its being shipped from Hong Kong.

I purchased one from them also. The Serial number starts with HT638 and it came with a dopod rom installed and bootloader 1.04. It was shipped to the US from Hong Kong overnight.
I am returning it because it came with one dead pixel on the screen. They say that the return time takes 14 days and they gave me a return address in Bellevue, WA.
Hope this info helps anyone.
wow that makes me feel a lot better knowing its not a scam. I hope mine comes with no dead pixels.

Yes there are quite a few Softbanks in HK. Street price selling just under US$500. Official Dopod selling almost US$800 in HK.

softbank sells phone devices with their brand name only in japan. i presume any softbank devices sold their should be the ones sold through any illegal channels. no one can justify the $300 difference on the price tags if dodpod and sofbank sold there are both from the legal channels.

They're not "illegal". We call them parallel import. But then for the $300 difference, we don't have any customer service and we're on our own if the Softbank goes silly. See, if they can make a profit at $500, then the street retail in Japan should be around $400. Good deal for such a device!

whatever you name it, they are not shipped there through the proper softbank channel.
there are those in japan buying them from softbank with the contract and personally exporting them unused to elsewhere after canceling the contract, but that will not work anymore with the ones shipped with the new rom after Dec 2 as nobody so far including pof has been able to unlock it.
if any unlocked ones are still flowing through from elsewhere, it could be from factory level and that is definitely through any illegal channels as htc should ristric that.

Let me know when yours arrives. I am curious about a couple things...
1. Does it have any bad pixels?
2. Does it have a Dopod rom and 1.04 bootloader?
I hope my replacement does not come with the 1.09 bootloader.
Since these come unlocked with the Dopod rom installed, then I would guess that I should be ok with my replacement when it comes.

i'm surprised if it comes with the bootloader 1.09. the bootloader 1.09 checks the cid and it won't let you flash the dopod rom on softbank device. you cannot unlock softbank x01ht that comes with the new rom with the bootloader 1.09. if it comes unlocked with the dopod rom, the bootloader cannot be 1.09.
alright just got my softbank phone in. From the looks of it, everything looks legit. I want to charge it fully before I turn it on so I'll post on the ROM version and stuff tomorrow. The manual is in Japanese as I expected, so how long do I need to charge this thing for the first time?
The S/N is HTC638XXX btw.
okay so mine is basically just like Freshter's. It has the dopod rom and 1.06 bootloader. No dead pixels .
So I guess the guy is legit? I havn't really had enough time to play around with it to notice anything wrong so I may not be the best authority on it.
The guy I bought it from on ebay is selling 5 more apparently.

It seems that yours came with bootloader 1.06 while mine came with 1.04.
I just sent mine back today for replacement because of the dead pixel.
The seller has been very responsive to me, but it is a shame that I have to wait 14 days or more to get a new one.
I'll let you all know the specs of my new one when it comes in.
Thanks again.

Well, I finally received my replacement X01HT yesterday after a month of waiting.
As promised, here are the specs:
X01HT (HERM200) with Dopod ROM
Bootloader: 1.04
ROM Version: 1.23.707.4
ROM Date: 07/21/06
Radio Version: 1.14.00.10
Protocol version: 32.50.7018.00H
One other thing that I noticed was that the first one I received (and returned) had the part number 99HCE045-00 XT01.
This new one I received yesterday has the part number 99HCE045-00 XT02.
Does anyone know what the difference is between XT01 and XT02?
Edit: Also wanted to mention that the new one has a serial number starting with HT647...
Can you help ?

Also, where you ever able to update the ROM????
Any answers can be a great help.
I buy one from pcmonde on amazon and work very well.
I Update it w the official rom wm6 on spanish for the TyTN from htc.
Works very sweet!

I don't understand your logic. Unless it has been "stolen", it is as legal as it can be.
i'm new to the xda scene but i am awaiting a recently ordered softbank x01ht that a 3rd party rogers dealer has ordered for me from an authorized dealer in vancouver. this comes with waranty and all for about $570. it comes locked and in japanese as i was told by the person introducing me to person ordering.
hello!
i am ready to order my hd2 (Greece is where i am located.)
So, after searching some greek eshops,i seem to find 2 different versions of the hd2 and i am confused.
There seems to exist a T8383 model and a T8585 one.What's this?Anyone knows?
http://www.skroutz.gr/s/94970/HTC-HD2.html
T8585 is the HD2 that I have.
The other could be the test phone, or a other branded phone (T-mobile etc.)

T8585 - HTC HD2 (not "Touch" any more, also known as Leo).
T8383 - WTF???
In theory it could be cut down version. But apart from Czech republic and Greece no one seems to have that sort of number. Could it be something like HTC made in Greece?
More
I am concerned.
I already own a touch diamond greek. The company that alters the software (translation etc) is ace hellas i know. This is not the case in this T8383 model.I was about to buy it but then i thought i would post here the question. It is 50 euros cheaper than the eshops selling the T8585 and also the T8585 is not expected here in nothing less than about 20days.So could this be a test model or something like you mentioned before?
Perhaps when it was know as Touch Pro Three?
Sould i avoid it you think and wait for the T8585 model?
how much does the hd2 costs in Greece? In cyprus is estimated 685 euros!! i think i will be buying mine from Germany in December...
btw both my Polaris and HD where also customized by ACE Hellas and they also seemed to be more expensive than in any of the other shops, I just fell for the salesman trick that only the ones customised by ACE Hellas are under HTC's warranty, which seems to be bull****!
sorry i missed your link on the first post... they are even more expensive in Greece!!! why dont you buy from abroad?
what about expansys??? http://www.expansys.com.gr/d.aspx?i=188868
its an english version of it
About 700 euros here and big stores like www.plaisio.gr say it will be available late november to december, and the T8383 model costs 650 and is already available. i will probably wait

i don't believe there would be 2 versions of the same phone, unless branded like vodafone or something.... or it could be that the seller did not read his notes very well... i mean 3 can easily be misunderstood to 5!
Maybe the T8383 model is the one with dots on the screen
No it's not a branded version, that's what i tried to explain before.I have to buy from a greek eshop because vodafone gr gives me some money i don't know the word in english, money discount for buying a new phone and shops like expansys.com or other do not cooperate on this with vodafone gr the said
i am beginning to think it's a first version of the phone probably, though it could be wrong spelled,a number "5" turned to "3".
Thanks anyway,i will wait and pay 50 euros more,i will give so much money,i have to be sure not to buy a beta phone version or anything

Nope, I've got a T8585, and it's got dots (Well, actually they're lines in a diagonal grid pattern with dots at the places where the lines cross).
But yeah, maybe the T8383 is one of the prototype (Those that said Pro.Three) or pre-retail (The ones without the pouch, MicroSD card, etc.) models, or just a random name for a model that doesn't differ at all.

legally they shouldnt sell you a beta phone and get away with it, so dont worry
*I believe* the difference is only down to the radio frequencies that 3G HSDPA data runs on.
One of them probably does 900/2100, the other maybe 850/2100.
i called the company today (one of the companies that sells the T8383 model).
They said that tha package was the full one, including an sdcard etc.
When i told them about the T8585 being the official one mentioned in the site, they replied that perhaps there is a type error.Could someone made this error and then 2 or 3 sites just copied it wrong?
The description in all these sites selling the T8383 is the same (copy-paste)
So should i just buy it?
I can hardly wait another one for the T8585 sites.
I wll also try to contact htc
how to find that number on the phone?
Linuxmaniac, unless you got a serial number from one of the T8383 models, don't bother contact HTC.
I already have, and they need a serial number in order to verify if the device is real or fake. they didn't answer the most important question - if there's a T8383, or not.
I contacted htc. They replied and said that there is only a T8585 model and i should only buy from original retail suppliers of htc in greece.
The site is not included in this list for Greece.
Also, the site after i called them changed now the model name to T8585 and put up the price 20 euros.
Still its 30 euros less than other shops in Greece and most important for me it is available.
So is this 30 euros just some sort of tariff for the buying from the "original" supplier?
Maybe this was all just a type error?
Some shops could lose clients easily afterall.
I think will order mine from this shop and then send the serial number to htc.
Do you agree?

I went into my local Vodafone store with a friend who is after one the same as mine and we where told the 16GB version is no longer available in Europe , is this correct?
We tried a Phones4you and they did not even know there was a 16GB version for sale.
On the plus side he said Vodafones version of Froyo 2.2 when it comes out will not have all the Vodafone crap integrated into it this time around.

they did have 16gb last week in holland though =/
When I was looking to upgrade through either Orange UK or Phones4u there was no option for the 16gb version (which I really wanted) so guess it's not that readily available

I think the 16GB version is exclusive to Vodafone. Other operators here also sell the SGS but the 8GB (as in the phone stores)
No, there is an unbranded 16GB available for Portugal. I have one that I bought in Holland ( http://www.studentenmobile.nl ). It came with English and Portuguse manuals.
Product code is : GT-I9000HKATPH
Build Number: ECLAIR.XWJM2
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
I rang Samsung Netherlands, and they said that the guarantee is valid in Holland, and everywhere else within the EU for the I9000.
Anyone know the country of origin of the GSII that Newegg.com is selling?
It doesn't look like it's Europe because in the product picture tour it has what looks to be a US travel charger. Other vendors that sell the GSII show European chargers with a US converter added.
Central, South American maybe?
Bump? Talked to Newegg in an email and they replied made in Korea....sigh.....
Sigh? You rather want one made in china? Remember samsung is in korea.
No, i wanted to know where they imported this phone from not where it was actually manufactured.
Get it from Expansys, they should be shipping UK phones now that supply is keeping up with demand. Tell them you want a UK phone when you place the order and you should be fine. If it ends up being something else, they're easy to work with for exchanges too. They'll also ship the phone back to the UK for you should you ever need warranty work whereas the newegg.com phone is sold without a warranty.
I bought mine from overseaselectronics.com and it came with U.S. samsung OEM charger and last but least it's made in china...but the quality of the phone is top notch, I don't think it's a knock offs....Oh...this version of the phone when you first power on the phone it's in different language as a default.
I just got my SG2 from newegg yesterday. I can't tell where it's from. I guess I'll have to do some more reading to find out what the differences are.

I did post this question at the end of another thread, as it looks like my trusty old Note 3 is definitely deceased now, but it would probably be better in its own thread.
I want to get an S10+ and quite like the idea of the ceramic black back cover (the 'pearlescent gloss' look of the regular black - actually, closer to greyish - version seems a bit tacky and could pick up marks easily) but I don't think the 128GB version comes in that finish in the UK?
I've found a Spanish site that is offering 128GB Ceramic Black (https://www.costomovil.es/moviles-y...samsung-galaxy-s10+-128gb-ceramic-black-libre) but I'm not sure of the variant that they would be selling - they state it's an SM-G975FZKDPHE. I'm assuming that any official European release version (I would be buying SIM-free unlocked) would be the same base hardware, and have the same range of cell-frequencies, so it ought to work just as well here in the UK as it would anywhere else in Europe. I could probably even install official BTU firmware via Odin anyway if I wanted to (I think some banking security features are regional, presumably based on the ROM?).
However if I buy now from Spain, and the UK does leave the EU soon (at the moment, who knows!) do you think Samsung will still honour their originally offered 2-year purchase warranty here in the UK (as they do now) based on the market conditions at the purchase date? If not, it seems the same sort of gamble as buying a grey import from Hong Kong/etc.

The site has made a mistake with the listing.
SM-G975FZKDPHE is the product code for the 128GB Prism Black standard model.
The Ceramic black one has a different product code:
SM-G975FCKGPHE (512 GB)
SM-G975FCKHPHE (1 TB)
You can flash the BTU ROM, insert a UK SIM card and do a factory reset. The phone will fully convert itself and will act as if it was bought in the UK.
You'll get all UK carrier and region specific features like VoLTE, WiFi Calling (both carrier dependent), Samsung Pay and so on.
Cell frequencies are the same across all Europe and Middle East since they all use the same variant (SM-G975F).
No clue about warranty though.
Actually, I think I may have found an even better fit for me - the upcoming Samsung A70 due out in a few weeks. https://news.samsung.com/uk/capture-connect-and-conquer-with-the-new-samsung-galaxy-a70
The A70 will still be a 128GB device, with an even bigger AMOLED screen than the S10+ (including embedded fingerprint sensor), bigger battery, SD Card, 3.5mm headphone jack... and no annoying curved display, a proper flat screen! OK, so it's 6GB RAM instead of 8GB, and I suspect the triple-camera won't be quite as good as the S10+, but then at less than 1/2 the price there are bound to be a few compromises (but hey, coming from a Note 3, it's still going to be a spectacularly better camera than the one I've been using).
