Camera noise when switching from video to photo vice versa - Galaxy S II General

There is this sound coming from camera when toggling between photo and video modes. it sounds like the lens come in contact with the glass cover. when I look at the camera you can see the lens moving forward and back when switching from video to photo vice versa. is this normal?

Absolutely. Lens adjusts itself for different focus, so a sound will come.

It's "normal" for all OC cameras, haven't heard any other camera versions behaving like that.
SAlmighty, can you humor me and check your camera version ?

Cam FW Ver: OMEF01 i don't see this version on any other thread
used " *#34971539# " (from another thread) to check firmware
is this a new firmware?

camera firmware version OMEF01?
who else has camera firmware version OMEF01 ???
i should create another thread and find out

Did you ever update your camera firmware from Samsung Apps ? Sorry for asking so many questions, but it looks like you have a rare version of cameras and up until now only OC cameras had this noise and autofocus when opening camera, switching from pic/video mode, starting the phone, etc

Abnormal, defective part. You need a replacement or repair.
I have 2 unit SGS2. One absolutely with no noise. And the other one with mechanism noise when switching photo/video mode (just like yours), or even occur when activate and closing camera apps. Basically, both with same firmware version.
Update firmware/phone also won't help for me.
Finally, I have decide to sent it for repair.

Do you remember the camera version of your faulty phone ? Keep us informed about the result when getting the phone back. I couldn't encounter any other version of camera doing that, except for OC ones and this rare OM camera version. Considering all OC cameras behave like that, then we must assume all phones with OC cameras are defective, which i doubt.

Can't remember. But I can get it from the other SGS2 which was checked exactly the same firmware version with the faulty one. Will update here once i got it.

is there way to check the version history on the phone?
i don't think I ever updated through samsung apps for the camera firmware, only for the apps
does the O make any difference?
the pictures are very crisp but the mechanical sound worries me because i don't know if it is a defect

is the OMEF01 a newer revision of the existing OC cameras?
holyguyz, if you cant remember the firmware version then it really doesn't prove helpful for me to determine if my camera is defect or not
you either had one unit with the OC camera and the other something else

I guess you could return your phone and see what they say. If it's faulty they will replace it, if not, i guess this behavior is normal for these types of cameras. I'm interested to find if it's normal or not too, since my OC camera does the same, but i assumed it's normal since every guy with an OC cam has this "problem". Your camera seems to be very rare, i didn't check the whole cam update thread again, but i'm sure i haven't seen anyone reporting having that type of camera.

i have already said, i will check on the other SGS2 which was checked to be the same firmware on my faulty one. i will post/update here, once i got it.
btw, i have sent my SGS2 for repair. i'm also quite frustrated of such a problem on the phone. i can't even really use the phone since i bought it a month ago. perhaps i need to wait another month to get my phone fixed and then can officially use the phone.

My camera clicks just like this, but otherwise takes pics and vids perfectly, so if it's faulty, it's just the noise that's faulty and not the operation lol

please make sure you need to disable the audible settings before trying to listen the camera mechanism sound. that's your choice to keep the noise "problems".
in my point of view, if there's a fault like mechanism sound, there's possibility the hardware might fail/die anytime (or not, if u r lucky). i will not keep the faulty phone (like a bomb timer). since still under warranty then just claim it.

im not saying there is a fault with the device, the pictures are amazing, no pink spots or other so called image variances. the 1080p video can be described in one word as, perfect.
since Sp1tfire said this was common in owners that had devices containing ' OC cameras ' and since then have not encountered any serious problem, then this must be normal, but only for all camera models that begin with ' O '

i have nothing to say... i'm not blaming anyone here.
sorry, if any nasty post or reponse.
just let it go, wait and hope for the best to come.

well i'm hearing 2 tiny clicks when switching modes, is this normal?? :-\

Possible Nexus Camera "Issue"

So I like most everything about my nexus but the way it takes pictures. Its not so much a real issue because it doesn't prevent the camera from working.. but it seems the chip/sensor they used for the camera gives a red spot in all pictures in the center of the image, most noticeably in pictures with a white or light background/image. I'll attach a picture so everyone else can confirm what I mean... I was hoping we could get HTC to replace the phones that have this issue via the warranty as this seems to be an issue with many nexus ones (based on a couple of reviews and the pictures they provided there). Here's my sample picture. You can also see it on screen when looking at what you're going to take a picture of.
Also I do research in a lab and its a procedure for an experiment I'm doing... just realized what I was posting might seem odd... didn't really read it before posting.
It is a software issue, so they are not going to do a warranty replacement. Droid had the same deal with it, seems to be something with the base 2.0/1 Android framework, I am sure it will be fixed when google releases their bug fix update(don't ask when, no legit idea beyond guessing sometime around the start of February, since that seems to be the typical timeline with phone bug updates, about 30 days after launch the first update is released).
Correction. It's a HARDWARE issue. Dont believe me? leave your cammera on for a couple minutes.. Goes away right? Its cuz droid camera was the same.. or similar? They had a bad batch. Mine has no pink eye(N1) =>
The Droid's issue was partially a software problem...
http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/17/motorola-droid-camera-autofocus-fixed-in-secrecy/
As well, it is a "who really knows?"
http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=10749
It seems many phones, with different camera's and so forth are having this issue... CCD seems to be the manufacturer of all the sensors, though, so perhaps there is a problem with the firmware from CCD causing this?
I highly doubt that every single camera sensor ever made by this company happens to have this sort of issue due to hardware. That would be pretty insane! However, if it was a firmware issue, then it would be present in every handset that uses a CCD manufactured/firmware supported camera, and this seems to be the case.
As well, it has already been stated the HD2 will get an update that fixes it. Hopefully the Nexus One is in the same boat. I didn't notice it on the test unit I used, but I asked the current tester if it was happening, and on all 3 it is present. It isn't noticeable in most pictures, though, especially with the flash on, FXcamera set to the proper white balance, and so forth.
EVERY Nexus One you get will have this issue. IT IS SOFTWARE. My N1 has it, the replacement I got has it too.
I've just taken a load of pictures and no pink from what I can see with both flash on and off.
Took pictures of a white surface and no pink. Must be hardware.

http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/phot...authkey=Gv1sRgCNKM3fOF452TyQE&feat=directlink
Do you have any camera apps installed? FXcamera with proper white balance settings(sometimes auto is perfect, sometimes you have to do it manually) makes it go away a lot of the time too.
Eh Hem.. Guys are you all forgetting that my N1 DOES NOT HAVE PINK EYE
From what I understand this is a hardware issue. This was also present in an earlier HTC phone (I think the HD2) running a different OS altogether.
yes this was a widespread issue on the HD2... and it was completley fixed by a SOFTWARE UPDATE! >.<
A cursory search of the words "hd2 pink camera issue" on Google seems to imply that this is actually a hardware issue.
Edit: The source of the confusion http://www.redmondpie.com/fix-pink-camera-problem-on-htc-hd2-9140202/:
HTC first confirmed it as an hardware issue but then later they found out that it was infact a software issue, rather than a hardware one.

I believe the SOFTWARE update is just overcorrecting the blue/green settings on the center of the camera (Guess...) to cancel out the HARDWARE problem with YOUR camera. But again.. It is a Hardware issue for sure. Sorry guys xD I win!
I wouldnt trust htc if you ask them though.. I dont think they are certain what planet they are on half the time.. I asked about how they know that I unlocked my bootloader and his answer was basically.. voodoo. Soooo yaaahhhh... Notice that the cameras are the same for droid HD2 and Nexus one? and those are the only 3 with the issue? Not the G1 with ported software? => hardware folks

I agree, just because the manufacturer releases a software fix doesn't mean its a software problem to begin with.
The first day I had the phone, I really noticed the pink spot. Yesterday I took 30 pictures, I didn't notice it at all. Today If I look hard enough I think I see a little tiny pink, viewing the image of a white piece of paper in the same place (office) I first tested the camera.
Yeah I noticed this too. It only really shows up if I take pictures of white paper or a white wall. Every other normal pic I take turns out fine but I do hope they can fix it with a software update... wouldn't be too hard.

Anyone elses camera make a clicking noise?

Just noticed it with 2.1 roms, could be other as well but never paid attention. Especially with Google Gogles and Barcode scanner, the camera clicks when it focuses and when it snaps a picture. This doesn't seem normal.
You answered your own question. The auto focus. the click is it going back to the starting point.

I don't recall ever actually being able to hear it is the thing. So im wondering if my camera is taking a crap on me.
After I flashed Damaged rom, I noticed the same thing. It just seems like the 2.1 roms go about controlling the camera hardware a little differently.
Mine has always done it, Stock or Not.. even the warranty replacements did the same
Ive heard the same thing on most the phones ive had. But i agree with what that the person said above. i think software just changes the way it use the camera hardware.

Same here. Mine has made the slight clicking sound right from day one.
The only time I really notice it though is when using Barcode Scanner.
it does that because the camera moves forward and back that's normal nothing to worry about
On the stock ROM and with the camera it would focus pretty smoothly but you could still hear it a little bit.
I noticed that with Google Goggles the autofocus goes crazy and that is probably why you notice the sound more.
Its just the focus, its quite normal... w/ any camera...

[Q] My HD2 Camera isnt working good.

Hi,
The day when I got my HD2, the camera hasnt been that good.
Sometimes it takex excellent pictures, but many a times it doesnt.
I upgraded to the stock ROM 2.XX and now running the latest Elegancia ROM.
Sometimes the camera just tries to focus and then just takes what is possible.
But yesterday i compared mine with another HD2 (also with the stock ROM) and the other phone takes amazing pictures.
Could it be a Hardware problem?
One more thing that I have noticed.
usually i do not like to set the Image preview on. But many at times, I hear the click and as I decide that the image is taken, the picture appears to be stuck and later refreshes. Turning the Image Preview On resolves this problem.
Its like as if the camera has become faster and more responsive.
Any clues for the image quality? or the Auto Focus ?
I havent tried the registry tweaks etc,
I tried setting ISO to 100 ,
Flicker to Auto,
Image quality to Normal.
Elgancia rom has camera issues I had a problem where they came out really blurry or the flash and the camera would make everything white. If I was you I would flash it back to t-mobile stock rom and check if it makes a difference if not maybe its your phone.
You more than likely have original release HD2 hardware. What color is your reset button? If it's red then you do indeed have first revision hardware, and the camera not working properly is a known hardware fault, and most of the time T-Mobile will replace your device free of charge because it's a known problem.

But I assure you, I would check back the Stock ROM later and let you know

Or.
Maybe if someone else had this issue and got it fixed ?
Wonder if there is any fix that i can try.

CAMERA FIRMWARE APKs

Hi people
there has been a big issue going round where people have started getting clicking noises coming from their phone/camera. we all have our different reason for when it started but the important thing is getting to the bottom of it. i have installed different roms and updated the camera.apk which has given me about 3 different camera firmware versions. all of which the noises reacted different. some worst then others. i believe the reason for the noises is that our phones along the lines of installing different roms has given us the wrong firmware for our cameras. as far as i know from reading about the phones have been shipped with 2 different cameras. therefore it would make sense that having the firmware for the camera which your phone doesnt have would course the camera to not work properly.
so im asking everyone to take their camera.apk from their phone and upload it to this thread with the firmware written next to it so that eventually we will have every camera firmware there is for us all the download and install and if im right we will come across the right firmware for our phone and the noise will have stopped.
What are these noises, I've been with several SGS2's and never heard of any..
For the camera APK's you can always take them apart your self, would be much faster that waiting for anyone.
Actually you might be wrong with your assumptions, the only camera version that clicks when opening or changing to video mode is the OC camera, no matter what camera firmware you install.
mine makes a noise but it always works. normal for me. running kf3.

well if that was the case then why had my phone never made the noises? i had different stock roms, custom roms and then i installed miui and the camera noises started. sometimes it does it when the card is reading, when i use flashlight when the phone turns on and when i open camera. so its really not what you think. inless maybe its oc firmware what tells the camera to do it? either way for something to not do it then do it after changing a rom it is def down to firmware not hardware

Maybe you didn't pay attention before and your camera was acting like that before too. From my talks with romanian SII owners i got to the conclusion that all OC cameras do that, while the rest of the cameras don't. Don't you think it's a bit weird that every single OC camera does that and others with different camera version couldn't confirm clicking noises ? Can't be a coincidence.

but like i said. they are going on the basis of what the phone tells them on the firmware. whats to say its not the oc firmware what tells the camera to do the checks what make the noise? i know 100% it didnt make the noise before. and im not the only one. i bet u any money if someone can make a apk which will install se on my phone rather then oc my phone will stop making noise
Guess you are stuck with the clicking noise until Samsung releases an update that could fix it. Doubt you can change OC to any other version. Mine is OC and acts the same.
Isn't the clicking the shutter opening? If so that's hardware and can't be fixed with firmware, maybe that's the reason for two different camera models, new one with a quite shutter

Pink camera spots

Hi guys,
My camera has some pink spots.
The spots seem to be in a fixed position, when I zoom in, they move and become bigger as if they would be on the lens.
I have had this issue for over a month now, but I can't seem to find a fix.
My apologies for not having done extensive research, I'm very busy with my exams (next week).
I'd like to know what is wrong and whether it'll fall under warranty.
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: the attached picture hasn't uploaded properly
New cropped picture attached
A few months ago many people had this problem, though only the one's having the Samsung camera sensor.
But this issue was fixed by Samsung with a FW update a few months ago...
See: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/help/camera-problem-pink-purple-spots-s7-t3414431
You're FW is up to date and everything??
The problem is most likely software. Try to install another program for the camera, and take a photo with the new program, most likely there will be no heels

So it can still be problemma in the broken pixels on the matrix. It seems to me necessary to carry a device to the service center and then everything will become clear
i think your camera sensor has been damaged. have you ever playing with laser before? i heard thats harmful for camera sensor
