I just can't seem to crack the battery life conondrum. I've calibrated (charge to 100%, wipe stats, then full cycle).
If I'm listening to music its consistently I'm sucking ~10% an hour, if idling ~4-5%. Which means I'm getting around same battery life as my old nexus one – mediocre, I end a working day with around 30-40%. If I want to go out after work i have to remind myself to charge during the day...
Right now I'm even running a mild setcpu undervolt (with faux123 kernel) and profile (screenoff max cpu 600mhz) but seeing not much improvement if any.
I am on gingerbread AT&T radio so thats not it either... any tips aside from 'use juice defender' (which I don't want to do as I want always on data instant push etc., I know juice defender basically shuts your data radio off)?
Note this is the same with stock gingerbread as well as the ROM and kernel I'm currently on (redpill, faux123 kernel)
I've done everything you have and i'm on a Bell Atrix....i have been looking into this for about a week or more and i just can't crack it either!!! it's driving me nuts and i have spent sooo many hours googling, searching xda and other sites and have tested MANY different methods and still can't seem to figure it out. For me i know its the phone idle...but what it is i can't tell, i have SystemPanel monitoring as as well as watchdog which i alternate with. Flashed the battery calibration fix and calibrated the meter blah blah blah....driving me nuts and i know its not a faulty battery because before i unlocked and flashed 2.3.4 i could get about 30 hours with heavy to moderate use!!!
For the love of god i wish a team of dev's would look into this!!!!!!!!
Honestly none of the faux kernels worked for me... Try gobstopper, stock kernel with watchdog was the only combo to give me good battery life. Not to mention lock sounds works properly, and its fast. All bell users should use it. Seriously... 19+ hours worth moderate usage.
phone idle is still high but it seems to be a slow drain.

2. Flash a kernel which allows overclocking, install SetCpu, add battery saving profiles (downclock to 500mhz on screen off, downclock to 800 mhz when battery less than 30%, downclock to 800mhz if temperature higher than 50C)
3. Freeze all MotoBlur bloatware (there's a guide in the general section)
4. Disable data and wifi unless you need it
5. Install Watchdog and set it up according to instructions I provided in my calibration thread.

Well, if you keep data or wifi turned on at all times, then there's no way you can have something more than mediocre battery life, sorry.
It's not the Atrix'es fault, its the brutal truth with all modern smartphones.
1 personally run ninja speed freak, i get amazing battery life. simply amazing, days on worth of battery!
it is not a kernel issue, i simply dont know exactcly what hack in particular gives ninja the amazing battery life. but im working hard to determing this so i can share it.

I'm not signed into motorblur either.
I do turn off wifi when out, but bluetooth is normally on.

The people in this thread have listed all known steps to improving battery life.
If you really follow all of these guidelines and have bad battery life, you might want to try a battery replacement.
If you are sure your battery is not the problem, you might also want to try a couple of custom roms. Who knows maybe you will get lucky with one of them.

Is there any way to log off from motoblur once you are in so you can stay offline? Of course any connection that gets cut will increase battery life.

Admittedly when I first installed 2.3.4 OTA, battery life dropped like a stone, but I drained it flat, and then charged it up again and its been fine ever since.
I'm running on stock 2.3.4 without root, and I have quite a lot going on (IM's/Facebook/Twitter) and I can last well over a day and a half with moderate use, this includes sms and calls.

Battery life is a very subjective issue. One person might be fine with the phone, while the other person will say battery life is terrible with the very same phone.
Besides the obvious drainage problems, it all depends on how you use the phone.
Honestly the best thing that worked for me was turning off "Syncing".
I currently have 3G on, BT on, ETC...
Syncing in the background killed my battery life. Now I usually make it through the day without the need for a top-off...

Im in stock gingerbread and battery life is definitely worse than on stock 2.2.2 and and im basically running the same Apps. I am a heavy user and I used to drop 10% per hour. Switch on at 7am and by 5pm I was changing battery. Now I am switching around 3pm.
That's why I have 3 batteries!
I still think its better than nearly every other device I have owned but that nay be because battery is larger. I dont know why they don't design to put in 2400 mah batteries (my treo 650 had one!).

The treo 650 also had a thickness double that of the Atrix .
The batteries in your phone are high-capacity lithium-ion batteries. This kind of battery technology cannot be simply reset and “re-calibrated.” When you follow the steps to recalibrate your battery and delete the batterystats.bin file from your phone, you are getting rid of more than what you think… Stored inside that batterystats.bin file, your phone keeps detailed logs of the capacity of your battery and uses it on how it can be utilized more efficiently. By deleting this file, it basically wipes the phone’s memory on what the battery can really do. This actually does damage to your battery by using up valuable charging cycles, all while giving a fraction of battery life and performance.
Now, you might be saying uh-oh, I’ve already re-calibrated my battery! What do I do?!
Well here’s your answer. Use your phone like normal. Yes, your battery and phone wont perform as good as it can for a while, but after a few days, you will notice that it starts doing better and better. Give it time, its trying to rebuild all those logs that you just deleted.

This is the first time I am reading this sort of opinion, though I have read countless info on the subject.
If you want to make such a strong point, you better have source to back up your opinion (article, studies, other source of proof, etc).
These threads are all USELESS without NUMBERS.
Like another person with common sense already stated in this thread, you need to provide numbers.
GB has this improved tool (over 2.2) where you can see how your battery is wasting its juice. Watch those numbers for a few charges and then POST THEM TO COMPARE.
Saying your battery sucks without giving any numbers is like calling a color ugly.
(just in case someone misses the points, without numbers it's hard to compare, since it mainly becomes an opinion at that point)
P.S.- Please don't post "My battery lasts for over 9000 hours." and think that's enough info. Use your head.

from what i can tell, battery life is MOSTLY tied to the kernal. Try an undervolted one, i've found they all work pretty well (hydra and KK)
o alright im using kings #2 BFS kernel undervolted and underclocked
I research before I got my DINC so I never used the factory battery from day 1. I have the same size battery but is 1750 power rating... I think Verizon has a newer one which was before I got mine...

Not directly related to the ROM. Check out the Hydra kernels. Also, with regards to battery, you need to do some recalibration so it works better. I got the 1750 battery for the DINC and it was dropping battery very fast no matter which ROM/Kernel combination I used. Finally found a thread that discuss how to get the OS to read the battery levels better. As an example, my battery would run down from 100% to 90% within 10-15 mins! After trying the following, everything works better.

Here's a summary of what you need to do:
01. Power off phone and change battery to full level (Green light).
02. Unplug the power and plug it back in. It should take another 15-20 mins to go green again (there's a thread discussing this also -- "bump" charge).

04. Reboot phone and use without recharging until the battery drains completed - i.e. phones shuts off. May want to turn it on once it shuts off.
05. Charge normal and you should see a positive change in the battery life.

Yeah but how much do you really gain by doing all that? And how often if at all do you have to do it again. I have the 1750 and it seems to depend allot of what kind of signal and which radios are on.

Of course if you had bad or no signal, the phone will use up more battery. Normally when you don't have any signal and you check the battery status, the phone tells you to put it in Airplane mode to conserve battery.
For me, it's worth doing because my battery does not drain as fast for my usage. Since I did this over the past 2 days, I've had the phone one on a single charge with about 6 hours of Awake Time (gaming, Internet, phone calls, texting, emails, some GPS usage) and UP time is 22 hours. And the battery is down to 20%. Definitely an improvement for myself so just try it if you like and see how it works out. Everyone's usage is different so it's hard to quantify.

bump charging before wiping stats makes no difference. bump charge is still necessary regardless. until htc acknowledges its a problem and fixes it on their end, bump charging is a part of our lives if you want a fully charged battery. unless you use an external charger of course.
I charge externally and I still bump charge tho I don't need to power the phone on and off. Also the bump time is much shorter

Nah, Virtuous gets really good battery life, especially with the custom kernel built for it.
Does JuiceDefender even function on CDMA phones? I thought it wasn't working
I would also like to know this! What about SetCPU profiles too? I just want the best possible battery life, speed is not very important to me.

im in the proccess of downloading and setting up virtous ill report back with different kernel set ups. i just want a rom and kernel set up that will last easily the hole day
Bump charge with or without battery stats wipe doesn't seem to make much difference for me. I plug in at home/car/computer and carry a spare battery. Just wish there was a way to turn off 3g and force 2g with Verizon on CDMA phones. That way I could still have data/internet.
i have some thoughts on battery life that id like to share.
our batterys are a " 3.7v" Li-Io.
a typical 3.7 li-io shuld have the folowing voltages...
4.2-4.25 fully charged
3.7v " nominal " charge
3.2v " sag" (voltage mesured when a nominal battery is hit with full rated discharge amperage)
3.0v discharged
2.5v the protection curcuitry kicks in
what ive been seeing on my vibrant is
4.24v @ 100%
currently im at 9% @ 3.709v
im projecting it to die @ 3.700v ie the " nominal " voltage
we are missing out on over half our battery potential.
i remember back in the G1 days when cyanogen lowered the shutdown voltage. i dont recall the values, but it helped.
now, i dont know if this is handled at a kernel level, or in the rom or what.
ive been doing experiments on my wife's hd2 running android, and seen great battery life even with it only having a 1200mah battery
it see's a full 4.2-3.0 discharge cycle
yes i know its diferent hardware, but the battery technology is the same, but we have a larger battery.
theres alot of talented dev's here, i doubt it'll take to long to find a solution to the early shutdown so we can finaly see full battery life.
Definitely sounds like there will be a viable solution to this. I don't know much of what you are talking about but i fully understand it. Cant wait for a solution.

thats for reducing cpu voltage.. ie: undervolting...
im talking about actualy useing the battery's full potential rather than pretending its dead when it realy has 60% left.

Ah, ok. like i said it might not be what youre looking for...and i learned something
It is probably done this way to conserve battery life expectancy. I remember reading somewhere that unlike the old nickle based battery, Lithium ions likes to remain stimulated, as it likes to carry active charge and be topped off when ever possible. Oppose to discharging it completely and then recharge the battery. So at 3.7v vs 3.0v, you don't have the battery completely drained so that in long term it doesn't ast at least 2 years like the specification stated (2 years, drops capacity to 80% if battery is well taken care of, ie topped off when ever possible, modest temperature, humidity, etc.)
I am no battery expert just what I though might be the reason.
As stated above, this is done to increase the life of the battery. A LiIon battery can only be power cycled so many times before it looses too much capacity to be used any more. By not fully draining (or fully charging) the battery you are able to get more cycles out of it. Here's more info.
Of course if you figure out how to change the set levels, you will get more time per charge, but you might have to buy a new battery sooner.
I'd be willing to trade increased usage time for battery life span especially seeing as they are so cheap now a days. I'm not a dev or anything but it would seems like the problem is software related not hardware. I've been through 5-6 ROMs all with horrible battery life until installing Macnut R11 and suddenly getting almost double what I was getting before. Changing the battery voltage for better life per charge would be icing on top of the cake though.
right, i understand that for optimum longevity they recomend staying between 40-60%.
we currently are well above that, we are in 100-80% range. 3.7v is the nominal voltage and we are useing that for shutdown voltage. so basicly we are draining the surface charge of the battery as it comes off the charger.
think of it another way: a 12v battery in our car, is it realy dead when it drops to 12v? no.... if i recall, 10.2v is considered dead. and most batterys sit at about 14v just after you turn your car off.. ie: just off the charger...
heat is the primary killer of a li-io battery. more so than discharge cycles. ie: constant heat generated durring charge cycle does more damage than the cycle its self.
so if we are currently only useing the 100-80% range, and we were able to unlock the full 100-0% range, our run time would be greatly extended. the typical user probably charges over night, and durring the day if they think there going to need a top off. thats to charge cycles in 1 day.
lets say @ current useage you get 8 hours use, if we were to unlock the full capacity, we could get an easy 24hours of use, therefor kill the need to have a mid day charge cycle. the overall life span would increse not only due to the number of charge cycles, but also the heat cycles.
this would also make it easyer to stay in the optimum 60-40% range (we cant even drop to 60% right now) providing even better battery life....
i can see if samsung had chosen 3.5 or 3.2v for shutdown, those values would have goten awesome life. once again, it seems that samsung engineers just throw stuff at a wall and run with what ever sticks... hmm... the battery says 3.7v, i guess thats when its suposed to be dead?

On the vibrant, where is battery percentage calculated? Within the Kernel? Or is solely in hardware? What determines @ what voltage the battery should shutdown?
From what i can tell battery level is set in "mBatteryLevel" And that is set in the Status.java file. ( hxxp://android.git.kernel.org/?p=platform/packages/apps/Settings.git;a=blob;f=src/com/android/settings/deviceinfo/Status.java )
But there is other stuff going on that i have no idea about...
I'd really like something to come of this. Like you guys, I'm sick of not getting a full day out of my battery. Bumping for great success!

Also the vibrant SAMOLED display brilliance isnt pretty for free, that sucks up most of the batter right there dont believe me, check ur batter stats ureself. u c HTC, Moto dont have a screen like this right now in the point of time for a reason. cant have both, It dont work that way...Just like You cant have a 1700 HP V24 engine and want 55 MPG out of it too...if this is u then thats pure ignorance. Myself personally thinks its basically software headaches from samsung that cause diff problems (bloatware running in background). All the hardware is doing is what its told by the software. If the software says run random apps in background, it does it but at the expense of battery life.

what rom/kernel are you running? ive seen 4.2-3.7 on every combo ive used, battery wiped etc. i have evn pulled the battery and done a deep discharge to 3.0v

personaly, i usualy get 12-16 hours with moderate use. so i wouldnt say that i get " poor battery life , esp with the early cut off voltage.
I'm running Onyx 3.1 with the Voodoo kernel. Currently at 54% at 3.779v
My problem is with the standby drain-- I'm consistently losing 3% per hour even when sleeping. For some reason this ROM spends a lot of time doing VM swaps. Tried lowering minfree thresholds in OLCF, but system is still way too active.

Actually, I rather like my 1ghz. I underclock to 600/800 to try to conserve battery where possible and my phone runs just as smooth as it does at 1ghz.
Sure a little OC doesn't hurt, but really what's the point right now? There are no "practical" apps out now that demand more than 500mhz, and you can still do more than enough multi-tasking.
So instead of sounding like a pretenteous asshole, either contribute to the topic or shut the hell up.
Now then, I wanted to ask about the possibility of an extended battery for the Galaxy. Something with more amperage perhaps?

Lately I've been running the latest update of the same ROM (Nonsensikal Froyo - now 15.2) without any CPU apps (no o/c'ing through script either), no autokiller, no battery tweaks (just Juice Plotter) only 1 widget (Fancy Widget Pro), JIT enabled, VM heap @32, compcache @18 (default) and depending on which app I look at, TiB or RE, I have +/-110mb of free RAM, very minimal apps. Also, I upgraded to CFSv9. I even bought a Seidio Innocell 1750mh extended life battery. I recalibrate my battery after flashes ....
Oh yeah, a little more info, I am not a power user, just an average user with poor to ok reception, I tend to use wireless at my house b/c reception out here in the woods ain't good, but turn it off when not needed. I use airplane mode during sleeping hours as well. The max of my battery usage is Display, then And OS.
Ok, now the question ..... If I don't use airplane mode, I get maaaaaay-be 6-8 hours of average phone usage, usually less !!
What finally broke me to PM you now is that (i recently put numbers on my battery icon) while typing a text message earlier (a few minutes tops, not on wireless) I watched my battery click down from 50 to 48 !!!
When I charge my phone full & I easily lose 10% in half an hour (I've tried this with SetCPU, JD, CBT, Super Power, CPUBoost Lite - I think you get the gist) ... and not including airplane mode, I NEVER get more than 6-8 hours of battery life !!!
Is there any knowledge that you can give me on this issue or have I pretty much exhausted my options ? I am this PM short of resigning to crappy battery life

What does the phone/Spare Parts say is using all the battery? Have you tried flashing and then using the phone without installing apps (other than the essentials?) Are you leaving the phone idle, screen off, and noticing the same big drop?
You could try going to stock for a bit to see if it improves...or trying a different ROM. Maybe you have a dud battery?
Edit: Sorry, you may have meant this to be directed at someone specifically.
Just an observation. If you're not using anything to overclock the phone maybe the battery life would be better if you at least underclock it. I suggest Conap's CPUBoost Lite, free on the market and here. Just set the minimum frequency to 245760 (my suggestion), and I currently have the screen off Minimum to 19200 and the screen off Maximum to 480000.
Also, I used to use Juice Plotter. I theorized that maybe Juice Plotter wasn't great for my battery itself.

I noticed the same thing when I used Juice Plotter. I got significantly less battery life when i had it. Try deleting Juice Plotter and see if you get more life out of your battery.
well you've noted your in a poor coverage area, and that is your problem, nothing can completely fix other than moving, but you may want to research flashing a new radio, becareful and check your md5 hash sums

Actually, the Verizon Network Extender can definitely help without moving. http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/accessory?action=gotoFemtocell
It's $250, but probably a lot cheaper than moving, and it should help with battery life. It does with me - I get 24-32 hours on a 1750 battery, with WiFi on all of the time (I have the old, non-3G extender.)
I'm running Tazz Froyo and get a minimum of 24 hrs on stock battery. I would try changing roms.
Battery life on my eris was never good, that's why you buy a extended battery. I have the biggest one that they have on amazon and my battery can last for five days with average use

so my battery has been draining really fast too, but my question is does the battery recalibration work? some people have said their battery drops even faster but is that only the first time?

Yes, it works if you do it propely. Charge phone to 100%, boot into recovery, wipe battery stats, reboot phone. Use your phone as normal until the battery is fully discharged and it shuts the phone off. I sometimes try to turn it back on also just to make sure it is all the way dead. Plug your phone in to charge it, walk away, don't touch it until it is 100% charged. Turn your phone on and use it as normal. It sometimes will take a few times charging it to see a difference. If I missed anything or mistyped anything some one correct me please lol
First and foremost this guide is based around the Sprint Nexus S 4G. If you do not have the Nexus S 4G, Than this guide will probably not help you. =)
Secondly all credit goes to the wonderful people that work endlessly to make these wonderful Roms and Kernels. Without you guys Android wouldn't be what it is today!

Now. Lets begin configuring your rom and kernel!

Set the following on CPU Master

If you notice your phone has a slightly worse or little to no improvement on the battery this is due to you deleting your battery stats. As you use your phone it will write new stats and you will begin to notice a difference after a few cycles. Just make sure your battery is charged when you wipe them, Let the phone run almost completely dead. Plug it up, Let it charge back to 100%, Unplug it. Rinse and repeat. Just be sure to unplug it when you notice it's fully charged even if you don't plan on going anywhere. Just let it sit and run on battery so that it calibrates the battery stats while it's idle as well.
Now as you should already know your battery life is going to heavily depend on use and SIGNAL STRENGTH. It seems a lot of people don't realize the more signal you have the longer your battery will last. If you're in an area with very low signal it can kill your phone in a matter of hours.
I have attached a screen shot of my battery life using this above method. Other settings I will mention
- WIFI ENABLED and CONNECTED
- Bluetooth and NFC DISABLED
- Automatic backlight control enabled
- Facebook notifcations, Weather and Contacts are the only things set to SYNC on my phone.
- Usage: Light to moderate. This includes a few texts throughout the day. A few phone calls, and a brief checking of facebook every now and then.
If I'm missing anything I will update this post. That is all for now. Happy modding and may this tutorial work the same wonders for you as it did me.
Also I should state that the phone finally died at around 2Days 17hrs on battery. My goal for 3 straight days was cut short after a few 30 minute phone calls and other work I had to do on the phone.

I thought it was the More Bars you have the more Data Kills Your Battery... but sprints 3G sucks .. some users only experience a .5kbs to 1.0 Mbs (if your lucky) ... that being said I think that's why your battery lasts longer. But then again I'm on Wifi so my battery has lasted all day ^_^ 15% left. Nfc on , Bluetooth off , screen at 50% brightness and heavy usage. Buuuut in your screen shot below your on 3G ... the 2 days.. was it always on Wifi?

I don't use any "power-saving" apps, just AOKP Milestone 2 with Steve Garon's 1.14 kernel to run 50hrs with nearly 4hrs of screen time.
100/1100mhz, interactive governor, standard voltage, bln/bld on, wifi used whenever available. It doesn't help that my office is in a poor signal area - battery life would be much better if the signal reception bar stayed green all the time.

Screen time out is on 30 seconds. and Wifi was connected virutally through the entire time, exception was when I visited a friends house which is why in the screenshot it does not say it's connected, However it was still active.

Those are very nice stats, Question, On your battery log, What are the massive drops in battery from? low signal or just heavy use on your phone?
Also I believe I'm going to go back an retry my experiment with SmartassV2 governor and On Demand. because I recently read they are better than conservative.
By all means play around with these settings and if you report back something I can approve on I will be happy to update this post and give credit to whoever finds more tricks to improving the battery life even more =)

They're from heavy use, probably angry birds or web browsing. The poor signal usually results in much slower drain.

Not saying you're wrong, but based on past experience when I lived in an area where my phone was constantly losing and gaining signal or especially switching between Verizon (Roaming) and Sprint to find a signal, My phone would get very warm and it would cause massive battery drain.
Also in regards to the Sprints 3G speed.
Here in town where I live now, with the new KL2 radio

I have attached screenshots of 3G speeds. It seems today when I ran the test the speeds aren't that special, I guess it all depends on network load.

I can get about 4-5 hrs on screen-on time a day with a full charge before it dies. I couldn't imagine spreading that amount of time over three days unless I was travelling again or something lol

Haha yeah sorry about that guys, That could have been helpful for me to post, but I actually just now realized you could view your screen on hours by clicking it. I feel about stupid now.
After I tweak some more settings and do this little experiment again I'll be sure to actually include that, Seeing as it would have been helpful LOL

How do you get your phone to idle so well? I can never get the battery stats to flatline like that. Could it be due to me having BLN turned on as the OP said that causes an idle bug?

There's a possibly you're running an app in the background that's preventing your phone from deep idling. Also try the battery saving app I mentioned in the post as well. It works wonders for some, and others don't notice difference. There's a lot of varying factors.
Have you wiped your battery stats and calibrated your battery with the method I mentioned above? Also you can check to see if your phone is deep idling by going into NSTools and clicking Idle stats.
If you see that your idle numbs are higher than your deep idle stats, Than yes, Something is preventing you're phone from doing so, and I would recommend disabling BLN and seeing if that fixes it.
It could be an issue with BLN and it may not be. My entire post is basically the steps and settings I've figured out and tweaked on my own to achieve maximum battery. I've read around and it seems some others have used BLN without any noticeable difference in battery at all. I guess it really just depends.
Also to the other post, The main reason I run my phone unclocked is basically, in use, I prefer the CPU to be at the lowest max speed possible, while remaining smooth, and I've noticed no lag at 800max, So therefor even when I'm using my phone it's still not going to be pulling as much power as if lets say I had it set to 1000 or 1100. Overclocking is great, Don't get me wrong, but unless you're doing something heavy like gaming or a sheet ton of crazy multitasking, I don't really think it's worth it. That's just my opinion though =)

How exactly am I handicapping? I had people asking me how I was getting my battery life and wanted me to post up details on it, so I decided I would. I run an underclocked phone because like I stated in my previous post, I don't see the point in running a overclocked phone unless you're going for benchmarks or doing a lot of heavy multitasking and then by all means, Take the 5 seconds to change your max CPU speed. If you're referring to me not running BLN, That's because for some, including me it keeps your phone from idling and will cause battery drain. It works fine for some, others it doesn't. I'm SURE it's a problem on my end, but until I get it worked out I'm just leaving it off for now.
I've been learning about rooting and modding since the Sprint HTC Hero days. I'm far from a professional and will be the first to admit I'm an amateur compared to you guys, I cannot develop, I cannot code. I'm simply wrote this guide as a reference point for people wanting to get good battery life, That's why I said tweak with the settings and have fun.
The main reason I'm so ecstatic about the battery life, is up until now I've barely been able to get a days normal use out of an android phone even running custom roms and all that good stuff. Now I can actually use my phone throughout the day, Throw it on my dresser at night, and wake up the next morning with still enough charge to use it again without having to worry about plugging it up every night.
Home or not, this info can prove to be very useful depending on an individual's circumstance. I work multiple jobs and when I get home, sometimes I'm so tired I don't even bother to fiddle with my phone's charging cable and just crash on my bed. I've gotten great battery life using similar tactics (went to bed with a 13% charge once, woke up with the thing still alive and kicking), so again, some may find this extremely helpful. Good work!

Since the beginning of Android one thing has always been an issue with some of the greatest ROMs.
........................Battery life.
Every day lives are drained away by the pleasures and features of such fantastic ROMs... and such things at time seem so hard to bare that we try to change the lives of our battery by going to a different ROM.
So now you have a chance to make a difference, nay, an opportunity to change the lives of many...
This thread is strictly for how to save Battery life. CM9/AOKP have amazing battery life by themselves (but yet can always be made better) But for those on MIUI (Not so great battery life) this will be really useful.
Understand that everyone's device is different and although you may get 15 hours off MIUI/AOKP/CM9 others may only get 4 from them.
Post what it is that helps you achieve maximum Battery life. You may be the one to solve the cure to wowhowdidmybatterylifedroptwentypercentinanhourosis.
Be sure to include:
1. ROM
2. Kernel
3. Tweaks that have been applied through ClockworkMod
4. Apps used to save life
5. What battery you use

I think the OP is looking for more practical solutions where they are not disabling major features of the smartphone.

1. CM9, although i think aokp does better.
2. Samurai Kernel, although just about any other ICS kernel should help. The biggest thing that you can change between kernels is the Governor and I/O depending on these two will determine how the CPU runs and in effect will determine battery life. Conservative is just about the best for battery life. If you need slickness and not too worried about battery Ondemand. If you want the best of both worlds i Think Wheatly is a good compromise. Also I/O , Sio is "simple" but VR is flash based so it tends to be the best. Otherwise Noop/Deadline. Also voltage.. undervolting will help limit the amount of well voltage to the CPU. So the lower you can get it the better.
3. Dont have tweaks i apply through CWM but i Run the V6 Supercharger, 3G turbocharger(optional), and the Kick Ass Kernelizer from Zeppelin.
4. I cannot stress this enough, Apps that say they save battery... run... which uses RAM and Resources... meaning its running trying to save you battery, Using battery. Which is stupid... and useless.
5. I have two a 3500Mah and the stock 1.5 year old 1500mah.
6. Typically with 3 hours of display over a period of 15hours (1500 mah) and around 5 hours of display over a period of 22 hours (3500 mah). However this is on wifi, 3g would deduct these a pretty good amount if you have sucky speeds.
He needs to get over it... lol. The only thing that truly saves battery life is managing your connections. There is no magic bullet unfortunately.
PLEASE! Don't tell us to turn off data and never sync the phone. Obviously if you don't use the phone the battery will last forever. I need a phone that can do the following:
Receive emails and texts as they are sent. (I use exchange push)
Last 18 hours on a standard or 1800 mAh battery.
I can just barely make that with stock FC09, I'd love to run ICS but with either CM9 or AOKP I barely make 10 hours.

Why must people post unhelpful comments such as the one above? I don't understand the logic there...
anyways since this was aimed at miui I get pretty good battery life with it... (3.5 hours screen on time) nyan v5 ftw! No special features... uv a lot (won't list my settings cuz every phone is different) and no oc... used to use jd but, it saves more battery if you just switch things off manually... really though until I flashed nyan my battery life was atrocious, but now just about on par with the peoples rom (4.5 to 5 hours screen on time!) Oh yeah, all this with the stock battery...

PLEASE! Don't tell us to turn off data and never sync the phone. Obviously if you don't use the phone the battery will last forever. I need a phone that can do the following:
Receive emails and texts as they are sent. (I use exchange push)
Last 18 hours on a standard or 1800 mAh battery.
I can just barely make that with stock FC09, I'd love to run ICS but with either CM9 or AOKP I barely make 10 hours.

On aokp with 1800 mAh i can do about 3Hours of screen on time and 15 Hours of battery life and my phone was awake 75% of the time.
Screenie was at 15%
This was stock Everything Except ROM haha

Think about if your screen was on while the device was awake..your time would be cut in half

6. Depends on use. But I usually get the estimated six hours consistently.
7. If you're going to use a task killer just use the built in one. Overclocking is bad, and in my experience so is undervolting. GTalk, official Facebook application(especially this. Even with notifications off it still is always going), G+, and more are always running and are a drain. No live wallpapers, and no widgets that require constant updating. As much black as possible. Don't use third-party batteries. Obviously turning off 3G, 4G, sync, and such will dramatically increase your battery life.
WAIT! Why am I writing this? There is a freaking optimization guide. Why does this exist? For ****s sake.
Running AOKP build 36, stock, FC09 modem 15 hours running takes me down to 50% batt hour of screen time, constant crappy wifi connection in an area with crappy cell signal sync for everything but email and g chat is every 2 hours (weather and all that). Big thing to save batt for me was turning down my screen brightness. I was also getting crappy battery life till i let this rom install run the battery down to 5% twice.

anyways since this was aimed at miui I get pretty good battery life with it... (3.5 hours screen on time) nyan v5 ftw! No special features... uv a lot (won't list my settings cuz every phone is different) and no oc... used to use jd but, it saves more battery if you just switch things off manually... really though until I flashed nyan my battery life was atrocious, but now just about on par with the peoples rom (4.5 to 5 hours screen on time!) Oh yeah, all this with the stock battery...

By no means was I saying never enable your 3g/4g.. but the fact remains that the single best way to conserve your battery life is to be smart about managing your connections. I.e. not leaving it on ALL day and to only turn sync on when your actually checking your e-mail.. be that through an app like juice defender or manually toggling. If that's not more helpful than what you posted (UV a lot and don't overclock??? Duh.) than my bad bro!

-I don't use the supercharger, but I do apply the same oom ram mods. These help close unused apps when they exceed the applied limit. Based on my experience, it's kept apps under control.

-THIS +9000! An app that spends all of it's time stopping other apps is wasting just as much "battery." I maintain, Advanced Task Killer, with NO, I repeat NO AUTOKILL. Set a widget on your home page, tap it occasionally to make sure everything is closed. Same effect as the built in task manager, but one single convenient tap.

-These numbers are pretty much the same for me. I almost always average 3 hours display on the stock battery between games and internet. 5-6 hours on the 3500, but I'm pretty sure it's not reaaallly the 3500mah it claims to be... . I NEVER turn off wifi or 3G, but google autosync is off until I edit my contacts.

I don't turn off my connections at all and get great battery life... and seens how the op states don't say anything about disabling 3g or anything id say your comment was the least helpful on the thread... but at least you tried... don't get into a battle of witts with me, I'm afraid your unarmed...

Firstly, I'm not trying to get into a pissing match with you. Its pointless. Secondly, the op makes no mention whatsoever of connection status. Thirdly, while you might get decent battery life w/o doing it.. I guarantee you'd do better if you did. Straight facts.

4.System Tuner Pro configured to UV, under clock to 400mhz on screen off, to close apps that don't automatically restart themselves, configure "auto-kill" so its not as aggressive with killing apps that just stay on, and a few sysctrl edits that I honestly don't think make a difference.
5.stock epic 1500 mAh, my sprint store wouldn't give me an sgsII battery
6. 12-18 hrs depending on use, though it has definitely drained quicker
7.be easy on data! (There kennyG) turn off wifi when your not near your networks, turn off mobile data, Bluetooth, and autosync when your not needing it. (Unless you absolutely need PUSH email for your job or whatever though honestly as far as my job goes if its important enough for me to need the message immediately they will simply dial my phone number. Yeah I'm old fashioned.

- I get 15-20 hours depending on how much music I stream during the day.
- I got the biggest boost by using the profiles in CM9 to optimize my connections and syncing depending on where I'm at during the day. I have Wifi at work and home, so I have it toggle my data off during that time period and vice versa when I'm mobile.

Using AOKP with shadow kernel.
Best thing I did to help with battery life was to turn off all notification options in the FB app. And I set haxsync to download photos only when plugged in.
