[Q] Temp Root and Removing Bloatware

Hi Everyone,
Longtime lurker here. Didn't want to ask questions until I exhausted all the Q&A threads. This is my first Android and by the way the Red MT is smokin!!!
I read all the threads relating to rooting and most of what I have gathered is about permanent rooting. I think the best bet for me is temp rooting and to remove the bloatware that came with my phone. However, there's not much info and instructions on temp rooting.
Can some kindly give me a step-by-step instructions on what I need to do to remove the bloatware (amazon thingy and the games) without permanent rooting?

Easiest way is to disable apps, rather then removing them. This way you will avoid potential issues with future OTAs as well. You will not gain any space neither if you delete apps since most of them are in /system/app partition with is not user accesible.
1. Get Visionary from one of the threads here on on MoDaCo and temp root.
2. Get Titanium Back-up (get pro version, it's very nice and not too spendy)
3. In TB, go to Back-up/Restore tab, click any app and choose "Freeze" option.
This will put app in disabled state. Yes it's there, no it's not active, not in the app drawer and not taking up any resources. I would also detach those apps from market (again, in TB) to make sure you don't update them and put them back in "enabled" state.

I did it another way - get visionary (its not on the market, google modaco and get the apk. You will need a file browser like astro, navigate to your downloads or whereever u saved it and instal it from there). Then get a terminal emulator from market. Open visionary, do root now or whatever that option is. It will take a minute to temproot, when done it wont say anything but it's rooted. Dont reboot.
open terminal emulator type
su (this gives u superuser access)
then type
pm list packages (this will list all packages)
then just look at the packages u want to disable (they're selfexplanatory mostly) and type
com disable EXACT PACKAGE NAME WITH CORRECT LETTERCASE (press enter)
and so on, it will tell you that such and such package is disabled

What you want to type is

Please double check your spelling when you give instructions to someone else.
Titanium does exactly that (pm disable) but with UI so it's a little easier for new users, that's why I recommended that instead of doing it manually.

is the "pm disable" command like "freeze" in titanium backup? or does it uninstall the app completely? if it freezes it, how would i unfreeze it?
also, if i remove or freeze apps with a temproot, will the apps still show up or reinstall after i reboot?

This worked like a charm on my G2....other than you MUST have the PRO version to freeze....Rebooted, uninstalled visionary, superuser, and ti backup afterwards...Apps still disabled! Yay!

Being that the phone will do a security check there is no way to delete the applications from the phone's hard drive w/o permarooting.
the T/Backup sounds like your best option.
Although the root.sh scripts are extremely easy to execute will little chance of "bricking" the device. If you should want to permaroot the phone

You can batch-freeze
To save time and effort in removing bloatware on a re-boot with Visionary, create a file (Titanium Backup Pro calls it a "label") in Titanium Backup Pro containing the apps you want to freeze.
Then, after a reboot using Visionary for temp root, you can open TB, go to "Batch" operations in Menu, scroll to and select "freeze all user & system apps" and apply the filter you created when the next screen appears.
Apparently perfectly safe because all of this is undone at the next reboot.

Freeze is permanent, you don't need to re-do it after reboot.

Is there a way to remove the Sense UI with this method?

Removing Sense
Don't know about removing Sense (I haven't used Titanium Backup to freeze specifically sense-identified programs) but you can freeze the programs the Tmo puts in the interface, like Faves, and install one of the froyo 2.2 launchers. I've done this and my 4g home screen looks just like my N1 home screen and the app drawer is as clean (almost) as the N1's also. So my 4g has the feel of my N1, with the benefit of 4g access. Wish I could get rid of the lame "genius" button though.

Would anyone know why none of the apk's would show up under backup/restore?
I'm perm. root with S=OFF and have the pro version of TB.

When you open up TB, you need to go to press the "problems?" button below.
this will install busybox.
then you should see them under backup/restore.

[Q] Prompt to Complete action using Easy Launcher or TouchWiz Home

I have the 32GB Galaxy S 4. I rooted my phone using the motochopper exploit after I received the OTA update to I337UCUAMDB and I also replaced SuperUser with SuperSU. Every time I restart my phone and enter the unlock pattern I am greeted with a prompt to Complete action using Easy Launcher or TouchWiz Home. I have selected both and tried choosing Always or Just once for each choice but after rebooting I am always presented with the prompt again.
Has anyone else seen this or does anyone have any ideas why this prompt is appearing?

If you're rooted, get Titanium Backup and freeze the launcher you don't want. If there's only 1 installed, you won't get the popup.
You can also go to settings/applications and do a "clear defaults" on both, then reboot. Maybe that'll help the choice stick.

I tried clearing defaults and also clearing the cache and data on both but I still got the prompt. I froze EasyLauncher with Titanium Backup and that worked. Thanks for your help!

Is there any other method of accomplishing removal of that that prompt? I do NOT wanna spend 6 bucks a ****ty backup app just to freeze one stupif thing because of a bug in the S4. I have app quarantine but it doesn't allow me to freeze easy launcher.

You can freeze it with the application manager. Just select the one you don't want and where Uninstall usually is you will find "Disable”
You can find this disabling option for system apps when you change to the "All" tab.

EDIT: It's *greyed out.* I first hit force stop and it still didn't ungrey disable
i would post a screenshot but it's blocking me. If it let's me post this remove dots from beginning of URL

Some apps do not allow you to disable within settings. Just support the developers of Titanium Backup and purchase pro and freeze it.

app quarantine=free allowed me to freeze 25 apps. would have paid for
nottach xposed=free provided 70 extra options
titanium= $6 bucks and does all kids of things i don't care about. all i want is a bug gone that I shouldn't have to pay for
there must be some other way of freezing the app or fixing the bug

Wanting things you shouldn't have to pay for, sounds fair and logical.
Can't you just use ES File Explorer (Free) and delete Easy Launcher then?

Yeah, like the person above just stated...you can use es file explorer or some other root file manager, you don't even have to delete the app...you can freeze it by renaming it!!!
Install es file explorer (free)
Enable root explorer
Mount /system
Navigate to /system/app
Rename the app by placing .bak at the end
Now its no longer recognized as an app due to the .bak at the end instead of .apk, if you want to unfreeze it then delete the .bak part and make sure it ends with .apk
-if your sure uninstalling it won't cause any issues than you can just delete it if you want

I installed ES File manager. Went to Root explorer. Uninstalled Easy Launcher. It said the uninstall failed, however it was removed from the list. I rebooted and no more easy launcher prompt!! THANKS :good:

I started having this same problem yesterday. When I reboot the phone I get prompted to "complete action" either use "touchwiz home" or easy launcher. If I select touchwiz home and set as the default action and reboot I get the same screen again. I'm just wondering what caused this and how I it can be fixed rather then disabling easy launcher.

Disabling Stock apps?

Hey guys i have the n8010 And i wanted to disable some of the stock apps like Google+ Google Games and so on.. but in App Manager it appears only the options Force Stop, Uninstall updates, Clear data/cache. I did disable them on my HTC device but here i cant...
Im running full stock and 4.1.2 Android, Shouldnt I be able to update to a further one or it isnt released yet?

you are going to need root to freeze or uninstall the system apps

You have to uninstall the updates first. After that, the "Uninstall Updates" button will show "Disable" and you'll be able to disable them

They can be simply disabled without root as it was said by coyoteelab. But cannot be uninstalled. When they are disabled they dont start.

As coyteelabs said... go to settings - applications - all apps - select the app you want to disable. Then..
1. If necessary, uninstall update first (select uninstall updates)
2. Then click disable (for some apps you need to uninstall updates first before you can disable them).

How do I remove Skype from SM-T585?

I disabled and stopped the process, but Skype still appeared in Updates. I then went to developer options and set it to Inactive. Is this sufficient?

If you want to permanently uninstall it, then download Link2SD (works faster than Titanium Backup) and uninstall it there. Reboot your device and it should be gone. If the app is still there uninstall it again from the Link2SD app and then reboot again. It should be gone by then.

U need root to uninstall it. Otherwise u can only disable it.

How do I root it?

Memory leak ?

After working an hour or so, the android tv becomes sluggish or even frozen.
If I then use the remote to switch off, then it will no longer restart and the only solution is to remove and reinsert the power plug. Then everything is normal again.
Sometimes it works a few days without problems.
Cleaning cache and restarting apps does not help.
Not sure but I suspect only internet browsers cause it, not apps like HBO or Youtube, though they also become sluggish. I tried many browsers, and none made the problem disappear (some sometimes caused videos to severely blink)
Device is Thomson 43UE6400 made by TCL V8-R851T02, now v645 but tested many previous firmware versions.

You need to look at ram usage. If it's topped off, look at individual apps to find the culprit.
In Android I use Running Services in Developer options.

If you can run the app DevChek, it does.
You need to be able to see ram usage, it's an important tool...

You have to remove system app which you dont use for example google music
How to do it?
Download kingo root https://root-apk.kingoapp.com/kingoroot-download.htm
install it, open it connect wired/wireless mouse, press get root, wait for it to get root, if it is stuck at 90%, press back and an error will appear, close the app, delete kingo root from settings app section. turn off and turn on again you will see superuser app open find app section then select system apps and select one of them which you dont use then press delete.

Not recommended. It likely won't root it and could load malware.

A trojan preloader wouldn't do anything at first...
Loading unknown firmware is high risk.
This one is already attempting to exploit known vulnerabilities to achieve root, not a good start.

Through adb removing system apps and installing them wont work thats the reason root is needed.
