Got up. Settings, about tablet, updates, check for updates, and nothing found. ;( not that I really expected anything. But one can hope. If anyone goes to the event or hears when it will be generally available..... post here.
I called Samsung asking about the screen glass and touchwiz update. They didn't know A) if the 10.1 is Gorilla Glass and B) said generically the touchwiz update would be available sometime this month. Grrrrr.....

I dont understand. TouchWiz is not being released today. All that is happening is Samsung is throwing a celebration now that its complete.
This is what I find: ..."will begin rolling out over the air to all Galaxy Tab 10.1 owners beginning Friday, August 5."...

There was a thread dedicated when the tablet came out arguing if it has gorilla glass. In the end people determine that it does not. But if you go to corning website http://www.corning.com/index.aspx, they recently added galaxy tab 10.1 to the list on having it

I don't have enough posts to post the article but to summarize:
Hankil Yoon, vice president of Smartphone Product Planning, Samsung Electronics, said “GALAXY Tab 10.1 is recognized for its high-end technology and amazing design, even among industry experts. For the GALAXY Tab 10.1, Samsung Electronics searched for the most durable, scratch-resistant glass, and again found the perfect solution with Corning Gorilla Glass.”
That came from an article on Corning's website.
So what are the odds... Who thinks this is going to be a new build or the same one that was mistakenly OTA'd?
The Anadtech guys are already on it.

Even more interesting on the Gorilla Glass is this page on Samsung's site:
http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa/jsp/faqs/faqs_view_us.jsp?SITE_ID=22&PG_ID=2&PROD_SUB_ID=2076&PROD_ID=0&AT_ID=373666
Where you will see this:
Corning (Gorilla) Glass: No
I know. So confusing. I have the invisible shield installed but the media dock peels away the bottom corners. Also it does not refract the glare as much and does seem to cause my finger to skip some or not make as great contact on some gestures. So been thinking of peeling it away if the G-Glass is there. Its always in the leather pouch when not in use. So I feel good it'll be OK for the most part.
Once I see a review of the Bluetooth keyboard notebook case, I may go that route for obvious reasons. You can eject easily from the case for handheld use, as well as close case for easy portability.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk
Corning is always making false publicity about their products. If you look on their site, you'll see that they mention gorilla glass being used in htc wildfire, htc desire, and even the old htc hero. That's ridiculous. I don't even understand why nobody sued them for false publicity.

How about Galaxy 4?
They have Galaxy 3 (I5800) and Galaxy 5 (I5500), so Galaxy 4 (I5650) could be in the line ;-)
Basically the same as the galaxy s with a small oled screen on the bottom to be used for notifications, etc. I think they're calling the small screen the 'ticker' or something. It's just a refresh, not a next gen device.
Thats if it's the same device I read about...

Seeing how long it took the Galaxy S to get Gingerbread, I'll take this chart with a heaping tablespoon of salt.
Also, no way will the Nexus S get ICS after the S2 (one of the benefits of a pure Google device is quicker updates).

It's certainly a nice table someone put together. The site's done in broken english and there's no source for the information. The info's not provided anywhere else on the web and while all the devices listed were previously announced by Samsung as being upgraded they refused to provide a timeline. And ICS for the SGS2 in four to six weeks, seriously? The Nexus, the ICS launch phone, isn't even going to be released in the U.S. until December. Color me skeptical.

As much as I would love to believe this, I can't.
I'm expecting ICS in forever and a day, that way if it comes a day earlier than expected the wait will still seem like forever.
However I think January 23 is when it will be rolled out.

they are just guessed dates right??
yes samsung and others have confirmed ics for some of their devices already out but no dates have officaly been confirmed have they
that site is very misleading to me bbecause come december everyone is now going to be going where is ics , when really that date has been picked out of the air as a random date by someone
i cant see an offical samsung build coming till next year , now the devs on this forum on the other hand are making great leaps to getting a full working version on the sgs2

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but I guess they want to make sure it works well on their flagship phone...
Samsung Galaxy Note Update – No Ice Cream Sandwich But Worth It
Want Ice Cream Sandwich on your new Samsung Galaxy Note?
Well your going to have to wait, read on to find out more:
Samsung update Galaxy Note but not with ICS:
With the UK seeing the arrival of a White Galaxy Note today.
Older owners of the Samsung Galaxy Note have been waiting for news about its future upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich, but with the debacle that has ensued for many devices it looks like Samsung are playing it safe with this new update and not giving ICS a chance to cause havoc on more happy new customers.
Firmware update not ICS:
While I can see the disappointment in peoples faces already, all is not lost with this update as it does appear to offer some significant improvements even if it is only a bit of a make-up job, so here is what will be included with the update:
Set brightness levels for browser to save some juice
Improved lockscreen with arrows around the padlock, encouraging you to swipe to unlock.
Preinstalled torch widget that supports three different brightness levels
Keyboard now has five rows with the number row being always visible
New “one hand” mode that shrinks the layout, making it easier to type with one hand only.
Calendar app now supports different date formats
It appears that the update is only for devices that are unlocked and it will be rolling out right about now, with carriers bringing the update to owners at a later date. This will be to ensure that they dont p*** off more people with an unstable update that can and does occur…wise move I say.
Are you wishing that this was more of an Ice Cream Sandwich flavour than a tarted up gingerbread?

Ah ok, since the article was written on the 23rd I took it as the author was saying they (Samsung) had decided for the Note to get ICS outside of the original target of first quarter 12'
its by far too late now, we should have it immediately
Can't wait!
All those features are present on current LA4 Gingerbread ROM.
All those features are not the reason why we want ICS
Q1 means November+December+January in USA.
Samsung is not based on USA so they may mean January+February+March.
I expect a lot more from the ICS ROM than a few new icons and changes on the lock screen. For example corrected color rendering.

In nearly all circumstances, Q1 in the US means January through March. The only exception that I know of offhand is the "fiscal year" (used by businesses for financial reporting) in which Q1 is October through December for whatever reason.
I don't think they're going to let us wait much longer than march.. That'd be a bit dissapointing.
I just wonder if we're getting more specific dates any time soon. As that'd be nice to have, a date to look forward to.. Now it's just wild guessing. Could be tomorrow, could be the end of march..
Yeah I've learnt my lesson. This article is just an opinion piece.
There is no statement from Samsung talking about a new delay. I still expect to see it in the 1at qtr this year (next few months)

Seriously if they don't fix core issues like color rendering with ICS, I am switching to Galaxy Nexus.
I knew that I will have to deal with Touchwiz, the bloatware and slow updates, but I never expected issues like this to arise when I decided to get the note.
Is there a problem with color rendering? This is the first I heard of this. Is it a wide spread problem? All I hear is how beautiful the screen and colors are.

Where on earth did you hear that!?
The year is divided into 12 months. A quarter of a year means 3 of the 12 months.
If you'd like to know more about counting up to 12 and dividing it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calendar_year
explaining each quarter and their dates.
Here is an extract:
Generally speaking, a calendar year begins on the New Year's Day of the given calendar system and ends on the day before the following New Year's Day. By convention, a calendar year consists of a natural number of days. To reconcile the calendar year with an astronomical cycle (which could not possibly be reckoned in a whole number of days), certain years contain extra days. Through further insertion of non-day units of time, the calendar year can be further synchronized; however, these extra units of time are not considered part of the calendar.
The Gregorian year begins on January 1 and ends on December 31 with a length of 365 days in an ordinary year and 366 days in a leap year giving an average length of 365.2425 days. This is very close to the average length of 76 Islamic calendar years (based on the average time between successive vernal equinoxes, currently 365.2424 days and increasing marginally). Other formula-based calendars can have lengths which are further out of step with the solar cycle, for example, the Julian calendar has an average length of 365.25 days, and the Hebrew calendar has an average length of 365.2468 days.
The astronomer's mean tropical year which is averaged over equinoxes and solstices is currently 365.24219 days, slightly shorter than the average length of the year in most calendars, but the astronomer's value changes over time, so William Herschel's suggested correction to the Gregorian calendar may become unnecessary by the year 4000.
[edit] Quarters
The calendar year can be divided into 4 quarters, often abbreviated Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4:
First quarter: from the beginning of January to the end of March
Second quarter: from the beginning of April to the end of June
Third quarter: from the beginning of July to the end of September
Fourth quarter: from the beginning of October to the end of December

Regardless, I don't mind waiting 2 more months for the update. This phone is fantastic so far just the way it is. If it gets better? Fantastic! hehe. I'd love the new ICS OS. It looks great and it sounds great. But there might be a lot of bugs. 2.3.X has been around for a while and has a lot of bugs solved, ICS is on one device officially (maybe 2?) and 0 for any 3rd party non-google developed devices.
Regardless, bring it on!

USB jig no longer removes custom binary count!
Can confirm that CF's triangle away works!
Just installed stock over LP7. No-wipe, Signal Boost is included & works
Additional Orange branded apps are.
App Shop
Backup
Games
Internet
Ringtones
Signal Boost
Weather
Siyah-v3.1rc6 Kernel
Feels snappier than LP7!
How do I root this ROM? I had root previously using the zerg rush exploit, but now i've lost it due to the ICS upgrade.
Thanks for any help.

I use Siyah kernel & Odin.
Used this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
Worked fine.
I can nuke all the nasty orange apps now.
I got an update but took me to 2.6 :/
Have been waiting for the update and it finally arrived today.
What can I say- hugely disappointed:
1 very slow browsing and YouTube
2 don't see many changes in the interface
3 scrolling is laggy
4 voice search hardly ever works
Could go on and on... It was supposed to be an improvement and not other way round.
Is there any way to make it more like ICS. I mean ICS launcher instead of TouchWiz, roboto font etc...

Connect your phone to Kies on your computer and it should automatically prompt you to upgrade. If that doesn't happen I would suggest you update the Kies software and manually check for any updates for your phone while your SGS II is connected. If it still doesn't work contact Orange.

Hi mate ive contacted to them and they said Because i have the i9100P i wont be able to get the update to 26th or something.Other users with i9100 will recieve the 4.03 update
I wouldn't get too upset about it, as I said earlier there isn't much to look forward to, wasn't for me at least
So what's that P stand for. Is it any different?

Hi
its the i9100
TBH i am finding ICS to be quite good so far, does seem snappier on menu's
As has been said no big difference really to the GB 2.3.5 but so far no issues.
(i did lose all my Home screens during the upgrade)
I am not a "power user" just used for general light browsing taking Pics etc.
But so far no show stoppers.
(i was offered the update to GB 2.3.6 last week but didn't have time. When i went to do it today i was only offered the ICS Update. Kies did not update in the meanwhile)

Sure the P models have NFC.

This all but seals the deal for me wanting this to ship with KitKat. KitKat gives us hope of rooting and staying on 4.4 until something is figured out with 5 while having an awesome device.
Ya I agree. I don't think we would be missing much without 5.0 anyways. Really the only great thing I've heard about it is that's it's capable of 64 bit but we don't have 64bit CPU's so what's the point. However, if it is 4.4 we might get root but doubt any unlocking. A Verizon branded Moto is not very promising IMO.
ill take 5.0 all day long
I'm praying for 4.4. I'd love to have Xposed on there as well as changing the dpi settings, because I hate the stock dpi. It's always too big. If it ships with 5.0 I'll be disappointed. Probably will still get it though.
Yeah, I'll take 5.0
Anyone saying they want 5.0 in this thread didn't read that article lol
It will most definitely ship with 4.4.4 according to all the leaks and the images....

I have heard rumors of a 64 bit memory interface. The actual CPU won't be 64bit but if there's parts that are 64bit we may see benefits. I think the Nexus 6 is rumored to have the the interface as well.

Nope, read the article and all the same, would take 5.0...Moto phones are damn near stock Android..just with the Moto goodies...I went from crack flashing ROMs on my GS3 to never flashing a single ROM on my Droid Maxx because the OS just works right the way it is...
I have no doubt that root will come to 5.0 in time...

yes no root on android5 is a big question. but i think it isn't too far to wait for rooting android5 devices because android is open. i'm not sure that my opinion is right or not but i think someone will work hard on it.

I read it, and I would miss root for some things that just work better with access (Greenify), but I have been running a few days without root to see how it affects me and the conclusion is barely at all.
The only think I am going to miss is being able to tell Tasker to clear all recent apps. but I only have to do that because my Razr M has 1GB of ram and usually only has 80mb free. Turbo shouldn't be a problem in that regard
I think rooted or not aside, the main reason I would root is for Xposed, which doesn't currently work on ART. It (probably) will someday, but doesn't currently.

Here's a question: since it is shipping with KitKat and we don't yet have a way to root 4.4.4, is there a way to block the OTA to L for those that want to hold off? I use to block it on my other Droids, but that required root.

In the short term you will probably have to decline the update. It usually pops up asking you to accept the OTA every few hours, though.

I normally had an option to choose when it reminded me next. So if it reminded me today at 5pm, I'd tell it to remind me at 4pm. So it would go 23 hours without reminding me.
