Is there a default password for the lockscreen if you don't set one?
Yes, I are an idiot. I was playing around with the lockscreen feature, didn't know anything about it, set a gesture to unlock it and figured that's all I needed to do, and now I'm locked out. Didn't set a password.
The gesture I set does nothing except get the keypad to display, and it seems anything will do that.
yeah, also never set a new password on your phone before going to bed, especially after a couple of drinks. been there. done that.
not sure about the nook, but on my htc aria i had to reset to factory. please say you have a backup......
EDIT:
I was thinking. maybe boot into cwm and wipe data and re-flash cm7
Try using ADB.
Thanks. I'll file this away, I've already wiped and reinstalled. Nothing I tried worked.
My curiosity is a two-edged sword, sometimes I learn great things, sometimes it messes me up (like this time).

The problem is that a forgotten gesture pattern can't be RELIABLY reset using the too-many-tries approach, only using the WIPE approach.
Up until now, it has been possible to disable the pattern lock such that it will no longer prevent you from unlocking the device, but the existing pattern is still stuck in the phone, preventing you from re-enabling it, since you STILL don't remember the old pattern, AND you can't simply go in and change the pattern because to change it, it asks you to enter the OLD pattern, which you'll remember, you don't remember. I guess the reason for this is that if somebody is messing with your phone, they won't be able to lock you out by changing your lock pattern.
I haven't seen anybody actually post this solution, so here it is...
rm /data/system/gesture.key
** you need root.
Simple. Now the big question is why isn't this gesture key stored in the sqlite database along with the lock enabled and permanently locked out settings?
Probably a good idea to disable the gesture first.
re: continuation
IS this regarding Haykuros G1 pattern lock fix? PLease elaborate if so. Thx much!
By the way
I remember my pattern and looking for the easiest way to get back in my phone. Is your fix in addition to Haykuro's? Or stand alone? Please advise. Thx
It might work standalone, haven't tried. Depends on what kind of checks the software makes.
Note that there are two locked-out states that you can be in;
1) forgot pattern
2) forgot pattern and tried too many times (permanent lockout).
I was adjusting my e-mail settings when the phone frooze. Had to remove battery to restart.
But after that I got stuck with this lockscreen.
Softreset didden't work. Tryed to switch between windows standard and windows classic lockscreen but nothing.
How do I get "The Slider" back?
(I have no lockscreen mods installed)

Go to the settings tab, Menu, All Settings, Lock and go to the Display tab. Make sure you've got Windows Default selected, not Windows Classic. Click OK and it'll ask you to restard. You should now have the lockscreen you want back.
Hope this helps
Edit:
Sorry - I just noticed your device isn't in English. I hope you can translate my instruction on your device okay.
Sorry, I guess "Standard Windows" is Swedish for "Default Windows" so i have already tryed that.
I have also tryed it with HTC sense off but still no change.
Still in need of help!

Okay - sorry mate. That's me done then.
Thank's for trying!
So what do you think, will a hard reset do the trick?

I reckon that would do it, yeah, but it seems overkill doesn't it. I'd hang fire for now and see if anyone on here comes up with a better solution. At least the phone is locking! It could be worse.

when i sekect lock from all settings, theres only setting password and hint. nothing else. my lockscreen wont automatic lock wen my screen is off.
I found that after a soft reset my Lock screen would not appear after the phone had gone to sleep (or I'd turned the screen off manually).
I solve it by .......
After a soft re-set or having turned the phone off;
go to Start
press 'Lock' at the bottom left of the screen
The lock screen now appears and then acts normally - until the next soft reset when I simply repeat the above
Nop!
Allready tryed that, still the grey lockscreen...

Lost Screen lock
Here is the one simple solution that works for me:
When I installed some cab. files I have lost the screen lock.
Longpress the end/power button. this will bring out options to power off, Lock device, set vibrate...
Simply press "Lock device".
Now you have a screen lock that keeps working.
Well I've tryed that but It will still use that grey thing...

Some people don't really read that well, do they?
argh
i have to always manually set the lock device. it wont automatically do it.
i recently installed pocketshield and that messed it up so i dont think everyone deleted properly?
should i use SKTools or a software to delete unused registries? or is it cab files?
YEEEES!
I figured somehow the default windows lockscreen file must have got corrupted...?
So I installed this cab:

found in this tread:

As a last attempt before a hard reset. And thank god it did the trick!
Thank you all for your help, without this forum my HTC would have ended up in the bin the day after I bought it!

still didnt work. just still acting the same.
i have the same problem after i have installed puremind's 1cab4all_20shcutsv1.3No.Net3.5.
i tried the above suggestion but didnt work, i have to put the lock device to make it work, but i dont want to enter the password everytime to go to homescreen.
Anyone have the same problem?
1. This happens a few times on my HD2, make sure you have BSB Tweak installed. There is an AutoLock switch on there. Make sure that is set to On (which it will be default).
2. Then on the odd occasion when the device does not lock, hold the power button to get the Quick List and click Lock Device, now it will be ok - till the next time it happens (mine usually after a few days in which case repeat step 2).
Hey Ppl....
I've found a file called libphonelock.so under /system/lib/
Maybe if you remove it with the TB, that it remove X10i lock screen?
anyone as know it?

ZOMG. This is definitely a step in the right direction.
I'm going to contact the developer and find out if I can get the code to the lockscreen disable portion of the app. Would love to see if I (or someone with actual Android programming experience) could tweak that into something that disables the swipe lock but can keep the pattern lock enabled.
-edit-
Email sent, though BIP's developer is out of town this weekend. If anyone knows of any other apps that accomplish this, I'd be interested to know.
lock 2.0 disables it, as well as the app "no-lock".
problem is, even with the new version of battery indicator, every app ive tried the stock slider still manages to come back someway somehow , battery indicator seems to be the best solution so far, and im wondering if its lock 2.0 that somehow brings back the stock slider.

Hey have you ever been able to receive a response from the dev?
If you are seeking a "new" lock screen, or the "no slider" look.
I highly recommend Widget Locker.
It has a root bypass of the lock screen "5 second rule" which starts up the "old" lock screen.
I bought the app, used the root bypass option, and i havent seen my old lock screen yet.
They even have a keypress unlock, if you want a very simple lock screen, and you can hold your back button down for .5-2sec or so to unlock.
Though, I dont use the pattern lock, so i have no idea if it works in combination with this or not?
Edit: Disregard, I didn't realize the age of this thread D:
Sorry for resurrecting such an old thread. Funny thing is that I actually did start using WidgetLocker and I DO sometimes get the stock lock screen before it starts, so I was looking for a way to completely disable the stock lock. There are some apps out there that remove the stock lock but it causes every hardware button to wake the device up, which is no good. (This includes battery indicator as I just found out)
Yea, thats no good, it kinda defeats the purpose of having some sort of alternative lock screen when it wakes up on key press like that
I'm not sure why, but i have never got the lock screen to pop up again, unless i kill widgetlocker myself.
Well, if you indeed find out how to get rid of that lockscreen, i would love to know, it would be nice to not have a app constantly running pretending to be an alternate lockscreen, you know?
I am using the Extended Controls app from the market.
With it you can enable & disable just about everything the X10 uses (including the lock screen).
[Q] Android stock Lock Screen in 2.2 - changing "vibrate" slider back to "silent"?
So I just renamed the "HtcLockScreen.apk" file on my Desire (LeeDroid rom) to have the default stock lockscreen (which I like better), and it worked.
However, I've noticed that the right slider only switches from "Normal" mode to "Vibrate". However, I never use the vibrate mode, and I'd like to make it switch to "Silent" mode instead of vibrate (in fact I've read that's the way it worked in Android 2.1).
Is there any way to change that? Any possible hacks? Or at least make it rotate through silent/vibrate/normal? I don't want to place additional widgets on the lockscreen, just making it work with the default slider which I like a lot.
Thanks in advance.
Nobody?
sorry but i dont have a solution but just to ask i also renamed the htclockscreen.apk to htclckscrn.apk and rebooted but nothing happened
could you you tell me how you did it (A)
Im with you op. I dont like vibrate mode because it still wakes up me at night on my bed stand. Toggling between silent and normal would work perfect for me. As a result I keep my phone in the living room when charging

Sorry, I didn't know this thread got any replies, and email notification was off.
I didn't do anything else really... you need to rename it from ADB though (with the phone in recovery mode), because otherwise the change will be reverted back once you reboot and nothing will change.
Once you rename it, the phone will automatically use the default Froyo lockscreen (this is, if you have a 2.2 rom).
I am now running eb01 and Froyo from a package in the [ODIN] EB01 .tar file w/ root and CWM! instruction thread. I cannot get the phone to lock based on the security policy ActiveSync pushed to it.
It asked me to create and verify a password; I can go in and change the password; change whether PIN or password is required; screen timeout set to 15 seconds; puzzle lock is on; no wake-lock problems, email delivers fine.
The only time it requests the password is on reboot.
Any ideas ? This is essential to my business use of the phone.
You might want to try out a different rom such as super clean 2.5. The stock email app is a little buggy and doesnt always function good with exchange. I have had to problems with the email app with superclean.
I can get the phone to lock as it should on screen timeout only if I remove the server entry from 'select device administrators'. The flipside is that then I get a notification to 'update security settings', and when I do, it fails to lock again.
Id like to see if this can be fixed before resorting to another ROM. Otherwise, any market apps to recommend ? Just need a simple device lock for privacy.
PS - tried to disable puzzle lock in CWM-red to see if that was somehow in the way, puzzle lock still appeared after reboot.
This isnt working in SuperClean 2.4 or 2.5 either.
I am now running the SuperFrankenClean 2.5 after several cache wipes, factory resets and the like. Was hoping even something like Titanium might have been in the way on restoring system files so i added corporate email before anything elsewas restored; still no luck.
Everything is running fine (even battery stats wipe via terminal emulator was slick) but no corporate security is killing me. nothing I have tried can get the device to lock unless the phone is rebooted; only then does it ask for a password. I also get prompted for password on screen off (the way it SHOULD work) after removing the corporate admin, but then email wont work until reinstall of the policy and the puzzle lock returns. Seems backwards to me.
So am i looking for an email .apk that supports encryption, a patch update or do I ignore status of corporate admin\ lock failand find another way to lock the screen ?
Anyway to lock the screen at this point is what I am resigned to.
Still loking for an answer on this if anyone has an idea. Stock, debloated, sc 2.4, sc 2.5 and frankenclean roms all have the same behavior, so I assume its a deeper issue than the rom. The behavior is correct when the security admin is removed but reverts when activesync server forces settings update.
A short term fix is using an app lock program, but it is less than ideal. Need phone to lock on screentimeout set to 15 seconds, but only forces a password entry on reboot.
Thx
