Anybody get a message about a mandatory voicemail update? I tried updating and it keeps failing.
Yeah I updated it and it installed. It would continue to bug the crap out of me if I kept saying no. Regardless, I use Google voice for voicemail anyways.

Thanks! since you said you got it to update, I figured it would be related to some sprint app I froze in TitaniumBackup. I unfroze it all, rebooted and it updated successfully.
As far as I know every new phone has that mandatory upgrade, my step-son's Transform did, my wife's Shift did and my Hero did after the swap out (and I bet my Shift will when I get it tomorrow). It should work, just don't exit out of the status screen when you're downloading it, if you hit home or go to another app it will fail.
got the same update and installed just fine. Besides the voice to text, not much is new...
it took me 10 or so trys before mine worked. I updated my PLM first before it actually worked. pretty annoying.
Does anyone know if this might undo root? I just got this notification but I don't wanna install any updates til I know its cool for sure

it won't bother root
It will bug you forever with a new "Try our FREE new voicemail to text demo" button on every single voicemail you listen to, though. Wish I could just go back to the old version without hard resetting. It's like having a Sprint ad on every voicemail. (edit: it's free for a month, then $2 a month thereafter)

I was able to delete that little ad just like any other voicemail and don't get bothered by it any more. Do other people have this problem too? I must be just missing it or something.
Edit - I thought you meant the actual message...
I flashed the Evo(Shift)Nonsense rom a couple of days ago and had this same problem with the update failing repeatedly. Eventually I had had enough and on a whim I found the backup of the updated voicemail apk from when I was still on stock and installed it...viola no more nags and the VVM is updated. File attached if you want to try it...
Haha awesome..thanks!

Yep I got this too, on a whim I decided to turn off wifi, then it was able to update *shrugs*

thx ! i been trying to get rid of that nagging mandatory update notifcation all day! finally got vvm working on a GB rom on evo
If you deleted the Sprint Updater app, the upgrade will have a general failure. Toss that apk back into system/apps, reboot, and it updates fine
Thanks alot hdmunger! That .Zip worked for me!
Just letting the 3g download the update has always fixed the issue for me
Okay I registered my note with Samsung and tried out the Samsung dive app, I tried the ring phone, track phone and so on, but after trying out the unlock screen feature, now everyone I check for software updates on my note, I get no updates available very quickly followed by a statusbar notification telling me my screen lock has been reset to default by Samsung dive. I have tried logging out of my Samsung account, I have even deleted the Samsung account app from my phone, I have unticked the remote feature in settings, but it still does the same thing when I check for updates, as I have the unlocked international version so therefore waiting for ics to be made available for my note.
Anyone else tried Samsung dive and having the same issues, or am I missing something to turn this off.
It is now becoming very annoying constantly doing this, but it does only seem to do this when checking for updates.
I don't want to do a factory reset as I don't know if that will even cure this, and then still have this notification but having to start over again setting up my phone when I have it just how I want it.
Any advice is most welcome.
Same issue here, I agree, It is annoying! Any help would be appreciated.
I installed AVG Antivirus Pro, which Samsung was giving away for free for a limited time in my country.
Works great.
Back on subject. Have you tried resetting the app via Applications in Settings? Might fix your issue. If not a factory rest will probably do it!
I'm having the exact same issue here. Does anyone have a solution to this?
I hopefully seemed to have solved the issue. I had the exact same issue. I logged onto the samsung dive website and chose the option to 'Lock My Mobile' and entered a pin. Now on the phone I unlocked my phone with the PIN previously set on the samsung dive website. After this the problem seems to have disappeared.
Hope this works for you all

I can't believe it. I even called Samsung Customer Services regarding the issue and their response was that my mobile isn't compatible with my country (Canada). I did what you advised and I'm tracking my phone now on Samsung Dive!! Who thought it could be such a simple solution. THANK YOU!

Samsung Dive is a website. In the event you lose your phone you are able to track it. Just login to you samsung account on your phone under setting>accounts and after that you can go online to track your phone.

Hi,
Thank you very much for posting your finding. It also fixed it for me. :good:
Hi Guys
I have searched the forums but cannot find anyone else with this problem but ever since the OTA update to ICS I cannot click the sign in or sign up buttons for the Samsung Apps store to register my device? Anyone else had this problem, the button simulate being pressed but nothing happens..
I have already stopped samsugn apps and sync, flushed the cache and restarted in the hopes this would kick start it including turning the phone on and off mutliple times but I cannot get past the sign in screen, please help! I already lost one Note and had to buy this one because of it so I want to register it before I lose it again.
Thanks!
Same problem please help?

Had the same after deleting my samsung account from the phone, because every time it wanted me to log when i was checking samsung store, thought it was a problem with the account, but even few hard resets/factory reset/full wipes same. For me the solution was to reset the phone. But before that think about the brick issue on ics and if you can get it fixed if you get bricked. Try changing languages before anything else.

whats the best way to carry out the changing languages option?
I had a problem with login in the Samsung app. Solved it by logging on the Samsung apps website first and then I could login in the app.
Try that, maybe you can make it work that way.

thanks already tried that i can log in fine on the samsung website even can create a new user name...
guys the problem is very clear when you try to 'press' the sign in or sign up buttons they appear indented as though they pick your gesture but nothing happens, there is no dialogue box that appears to enable you to type in your username or address, its definately a phone issue and it only happened after the ota ICS update
Guys have the same problem after ics update in my SGnote.not able to sign in samsung acount. Hope we get some update from samsung to fix this issue...regards
i have the same problem on my Galaxy Note. logged in using my friends S3 it logs in fine. Its definitely a Phone issue with ICS.i hope samsung resolve it soon.
I can't pin it down to this being an Android 4.3 issue or an update to the app itself so i'm asking for other peoples experience here. When you receive a facebook message and the screen is off, does it wake the screen?
I should also mention it happens too on my Nexus 7 (2013)

Yeah, I also noticed it started yesterday or the day before. Android 4.3 stock firmware. Pretty sure it's apps fault, tried different ROMs and got exact the same result. Someone should report this to developers.
I have a HTC One S, same thing occurring here... it appears to be the Messenger App's fault. Since I have had the same issue across 3 different roms
Yeah, I got the same issue with parandroid and the stock 4.3.
The screen wake up when I get a message on the desktop computer. I've shot down all the notifications on the phone and the problem's gone now.
**** .
So I'm definitely not alone then! I've just reverted back to the previous version and that's fixed it for the time being. Also sent the devs a message from within the app but seeing as this nod Facebook, who knows when it will get fixed

Good to hear, it's really annoying, I hope they fix it soon. Any tip how to revert back to old version? Or maybe you have the right apk to share with me please? I don't even know which version was the working one
Facebook is always a fail app.
The new update fixed it momentarily, but it's doing it again. I'm on 4.2.2 on an S4 and it's doing it too. Kills the battery, I hate it. Turning notifications off completely only disables it as it automatically turns on after a few hours.
Anyone have the APK for the version before this crap started happening?

Version 2.53 (here) doesn't seem to wake the screen for me...
Can't believe they still haven't fixed it... Wish more of my friends used hangouts
Well, thanks for the effort, but it still didn't fix my problem. Also tried different versions, but neither of them did work. Gotta wait for official update.
Okay, so I've found a fix. After trying absolutely everything I tried greenifying the app. Obviously when it's greenified the screen doesn't wake, because you aren't receiving any notifications at all. Strangely enough though, when you de-greenify the app, then run it again. No more screen wakes!
Have no idea why it works, but it does! So I'm happy!
I take back what I've said... It works temporarily, then starts waking the screen again

I'm also having the same problem, with my HTC One and my Nexus 7 2013.
I can reproduce the problem on the followings devices:
* HTC One running Sense 5
* HTC One running Google Edition RUU (4.3)
* Nexus 7 2013 (4.3 JSS15Q)
I dunno if the problem is really app related or not... What i find out is that trying to login with my friend account, the screen doesn't wake up when receiving a message. I tried further and created a dummy facebook account, and same, doesn't wake up the screen.
Just my facebook account is waking up my screen.
I didn't try long enough with my friend account and my dummy account if the problem will appear sooner or later.
Could be account related or app related, or both...

This is really interesting... I will try a friends account too to try confirm your findings. Maybe there's some abstract setting on the Facebook account itself that is causing the issue?

Okay, So I tried a fake account as well. Bam. No screen wake upon receiving notifications. So i'm going to assume it's account related... Only Facebook could pull this off...unbelievable..
unbelievable but true! it is account related. The question now is:
What do we have in common? (Developer?)
and are there any settings in Facebook which could stop this behavior.
I have the same issue and tried everthing to get rid of it without turning all the notifications off on the app. I really dont like to have my screen on every time a get a message. I could notice that this is happening on android and ios devices.

Sorry for bumping this thread, but... did anyone find a solution? I've got the same problem with Facebook. I remember I applied for beta testing some months ago, but then I "resigned" and went back to the normal app. Problem still occurs, though. Isn't there a way to solve this?

I've not found a solution yet All I know is that it's somehow tied to the account and that it's not device/rom related

Well this is the buggy Knox update. Samsung already heard about it and they said they should provide a fix by the end of this week (lol).

I read somewhere else that you should press the update, which I did of course yet it keeps saying network error or something along those lines

With the update 4.3 this should be fixed.
It looked like Samsung accidentally pushed out the Knox binaries without the management app and the update server being online.
Anyway, if the message keeps coming back, I recommend to disable the Knox service entirely. I did it with Titanium Backup, just freeze any app containing the word "Knox".
