...
Well I had a dash and I kinda miss it. I could stream video from anywhere on skyfire so I could watch anime and shows. I could watch ANY video file on TCPMP, and had Mobile Office etc etc etc. Since there are a million WM phones the programs that were availible were enormous but Android is pickin up steam and many companies are plannin on using the OS which means more and more apps
Best thing you can do is go the link already posted and get some info

I'm, surprised he came from the dash and not the sidekick - if you ever want to fear for the future of our species, check out the danger forums. If you can find three posts on it that have complete sentences and/or all words spelled properly, you've count at least one of them twice. It's ridiculous.
Since I am not smart enough to make fun of his grammar, I'd like to address his problem. OP needs to realize that WM has been out for years (and hasn't changed much in that time, I've had an ipaq 1945, MDA, Dash, Tilt). G1 just got paid apps when, 6 months ago? When Android is around for a few more years, then no matter what you are looking for, there will be "an app for that".
I have also had a Dash in the past. It was a rock solid phone and I loved it. Give the Android OS more time to develop. WM has been around for many years.

2 things...first, you misspelled ****** (lol). Second, I moved over to the g1 after having a Dash. I loved my dash, took it on deployment with me, had it for almost 2 years, but after using the g1 I can safely say that I am not going back. Learning the G1 took next to no time, but just going back to the Dash for a little bit (my wife uses it now) it seems like there is a learning curve (and it was my primary phone for 2 years). I know the thoughts going through your head and the questions. I've been there. Ultimately the only thing that I can say is try it. That is exactly why there is the 2 week return policy. Play with the G1 and if you don't like it return it, get your money back and go back to your dash while you wait for the Dash 3G to come out.

Actually, there are a large number of mistakes in your "sentence." First, as pointed out, you spelled "******" wrong. Second, when referring to yourself, "I" is capitalized. The method in which you used "it's" would require the apostrophe. Third, "alot" isn't even a word. It is actually two words "a lot." I won't even begin to go into the grammatical errors in the use of "it's just I text a lot" as I don't think you would be capable of understanding that.
I'm not trying to be a jackass, but when someone resorts to name calling and rude comments because they cannot take a joke, it seems warranted to put the person in their place. What Luca_Dream posted was funny. Why can't you just accept it and say, in net-speak, "LOLZ, you're right. I'm just so used to texting!" In that way you would have shown maturity and good humor without getting the "smack-down" from the community.

Grow up and take your ignorant self back to the Danger forum. I used a Dash for two years and and used a Sidekick for a year and a half. Between texting friends, bright kite and twitter I rack up about 4000 text messages a month - so yes.. it is possible to "text alot" and still manage to put together a sentence with complete words, punctuation and at least 3rd grade level grammar.
At least PRETEND that you respect yourself and maybe others will return the sentiment.
Plus, I don't suck ass. I'll lick it every now and then though.
Just got pointed here as the post some were above was reported,
Lost for words but that could be due to the one of the follwing facts
1) I can't spell
2) Was not aware of nolageek habits or are they "work ethics"
3) Can hardly read as I seem to be laughing to much.
Think some of the above was handled rather nicely in a politicaly incorrect manor maybe.

Else lets get back on topic
Hi devs,
I was wondering... maybe there is "an app for that", but I have not seen it..
I will be updating to the newest greatest android phone when it is released for Sprint / CDMA. But what will I do with the beloved HERO?
I was thinking it would be great for my kid; or kids in general as a:
for younger kids: MP3, Movie, Internet, GPS, Photo device
for older kids: a cell phone / leash.
But there are some things I dont want my kid to have access too. I want to limit the phone and give only access to only necessary functions.
So, here is my request/suggestion:
Have a "Home" app that can lock down the phone's functions. The parent can turn off/on the functions that they want the kid to have.
-Lock down the Dialer or make it invisible.
-have only calls to short cuts "people"
-911...
-GPS always on
-Text limitations.
-use a software like "wavesecure" to look at the phones activities.
-app to see where they are and where they have been.
-set timer on some functions: like can make calls / text on weekends only.
-Limit access to the "Market"
-Limit access to the Internet (kid friendly).
-ability for us to call the phone, it auto answer, speaker on, and not show any trace of it being on. ( )
(just to name a few options)
This might be a great app that sells a lot.
Lol...
some of them sound a bit erm controlling but im not a parent what do i know..
I think the internet is semi-censored by your phone internet provider when on 3g(Dont think so on wifi). Was for me anyways!
yes.. I agree.. it is very controlling and big brother feel to my request.
But .. as a parent.. I want to know..
and Knowledge is power
and better for my peace of mind.
Till they are out of the house.. I WANT TO KNOW.
I dont want to be one of the parents.. after the fact..
and say to myself.. "i wish i had known"
Parent = Responsibility

Well, u may say that, mb that's off topic, but 16+ kids do need their own privacy and controlling the phone of such kid is completely inappropriate. I would understand if u weree talking about some 10yo though.

my kid is 6 .
yes, as they get older. you try to teach them good decision making. and with that you give them more freedom and responsibility. Which they must earn, not an age-given right. OF COURSE: each kid is different and different situations.
I will then give them back more rights. I will release control over certain areas. Till finally they are out in the world and trying to make their way. And I will just sit back and be their safety net, if they need it. Praying that I was able to teach them and give them the skills to make good decisions.
Till then.. I want to know... so that I can help guide them away from harm.
similar to a 16 yr old chatting online..
and you not watching what they are doing..
Or texting message, with photos of themselves... in not so good pictures.
we have all read and heard of these bad situations in the news.

Replied in your other thread.

What proves that you lie? The next:
1) thread was created on June 28 and even was in search results 1 or 2 times for me or even on one tech website, but it is 6 MONTHS AGO, no EFFECT was then and during this period! FOLKS! 6MONTHS you keep your silence waiting? and now are yelling like sheeps?
2) all complaints appeared in OLD THREAD simultaneously on December 31, but you say that it was for a long time;
3) you name your devices every time without any detailes, the name of Device alone says nothing for bug fixing; this is ordered by your owner, TROLLS, to name all Android devices here to demonstrate the scale of your 'problem'; this addresses your claims to usual consumers, buyers, not to developers; you just need an attention of consumers, which buy devices, not developers who should find your INVENTED bug in REINVENTED thread;
4) you post here almost identical useless 3-4 words messages. DO YOU KNOW THAT THIS IS a developer's forum? detailes? logs? screens? descriptions? or you don't have a good another place from where you could scream?
5) you use the same words in all 3 places where ****storm should been created to make a feeling that these words are so obvious, but they are written down in your file on computer.
6) bugs are usually a result of updating or installing or some intrusions, you don't connect your complaints with any of your actions with Android OS or OS's changes on your devices.
7) nobody here don't try to really find a solution for 'his problem', because you just need a ****STORM, yelling, scandal; it says a lot about true your goals here;
8) those 2 resources from whose you came here are perfect for starting ****storms. theey are big and different to target different users- one is more glamorous and another one is more geeky;
9) you use term 'switch' and competitor's phones. Folks who experience a problem will not start their messages from the words 'I think about breaking my contract' or 'I'm switching'. You talk to customers/ buyers, saying this, NOT DEVELOPERS;
10) the idea for ****storm was found excellent, must agree: SMS is a basic feature as dropped calls during an important call, everyone sends millions of messages every day, half of them are so sexual and zesty that will cause firing and misunderstanding everywhere, even EMBARASSMENT!;
11) old retired idea about Google's privacy concerns is a very good sauce for such stories;
12) a slap into the face of openness- 'Look, Google, what we can do with your openness and your Open Handset Alliance!';
13) exactly before CES 2011;
14) tremendous growth of Android that needs ****storm to be able to compete better and to shine brighter;
15) just to create a proof for the words that you repeat on the internet as zombies about Android.
16) this thread was old,but once established and almost forgotten due to its uselessness, it just needed reinvention on December 31; this fact gave to this thread so bad-needed maturity to show that nothing is fixed from the 1st report; which also help push the theme 'Google doesn't care'.
17) if this bug was existing you wouldn't act as you act now

I don't agree with everything he says but the bolded are good points. [I don't think the guy speaks English]
Not saying that the issue shouldn't be resolved as fast as possible..
Just kinda funny that, as he points out, if it's such a "serious issue" why was it barely-if ever- talked about until RIGHT before CES?
Also kinda funny that every time this bug happens...the text is of a sensitive nature....
I call BS on that.
As I have said before, Engadget is a lot like "sexy action news" with their "the world is ending" article titles.
This issue, while it does need to be fixed, is not as serious nor is it as excessively occurring as claimed.
If so, then it would have been reported more often in the last six months than ONCE.

It's simple: A lot of people don't get to use the AOSP message app - how many stock Android phones are there? But if you go on AOSP ROM threads you'll get see SMS complaints pop up occasional. I guess it's a story because it still hasn't been fixed after all this time plus a HUGE stock phone just dropped - the Nexus S. Reviewers have taken notice.

The "claim" by Engadget is that it is an issue in coding of Android and "will occur no matter what SMS program is used" [which is complete and utter bull****]
It DOES need to be fixed but the timing and "end all" nature of Engadget article screams attention whoring.

not sure if this is the same bug but me and my brother who both have had evo's since the launch had a problem with clicking on a conversation, starting to write a text and notice that we were actually sending it to a complete wrong person. It was few months ago, i actually sent few msgs to wrong people before i caught on.

That seems to implicate that it is not SMS app specific.
But as I said, others have read this and made the claim.
This has happened to me numerous times on stock, custom sense, and MIUI ROMs. I'll send a text to someone, and both they and a random person that was already in my texting list (someone that I have texted before) will get the text. It has happened on all 3 of my EVOs. Also, sometimes when I click on a thread it takes me to a completely different thread. I have almost sent a text to the wrong person because of this many times.
I think I understand this. It has something to do with the way Android handles the "back" hard/softkey function. It's missremembering which tile is where in the stack. It seems to happen when the "stack" or remembered tiles is too large. Try spamming the back button sometime. Occasionally it will do some interesting things.
Fix may be as simple as a small routine that scrubs whatever cache is responsible for this behavior.

This happened to me, I thought it was me not paying attention, or that might have really been the case. I almost got caught up it something because if it Now I tend to delete all the other sms's in my inbox while having a sensitive conversation.
Guys, I don't question that this happens.
I know it does because it's happened to me.
Once or twice...
I DO question how it suddenly "happens all the time" and only when its a "sensitive message". I call complete BS on both issues.

Not gonna lie, pretty hilarious things have happened to me because of this bug. I either send lots of awful text messages, or my phone is trying to mess with me.
One time I accidentally sent an old school friend a text meant for my girlfriend that was pretty mushy. Woke up to a text back going.. "..um wut".
The second time was more terrible; some less-than-politically correct stereotypes questions meant for a close friend that ended up sent to a (thankfully trustworthy but still awkward) co-worker. :B
I only noticed after sending the text (and sending it IN THE THREAD for the person it was meant for) and then being redirected back to my list of conversation threads only to find that the completely incorrect contact was now at the top of my list and was in fact the newly chosen recipient for my text message.

I couldnt care less to be honest, the whole point of this is that yes infomation about you is taken and stored on a gigantic scale, but that info on my credit cards, my store cards my carrier usage and my WP7 isnt available to anyone but the servers they reside on.
That is the fundermental difference between MS and Apple.

Hehe, no me either, just a conv starter.
On a related note, police have been using the iPhone location list (held on the phone itself, unlike wp7) to tie user to location when investigating crimes, tomtom have sold harvested driving data to Dutch police who have used it to set up speed trap stings, and two women have filed a $50mil suit against Google for harvesting their data.(not gonna fly, of course, but interesting none the less) a few days after a similar suit against apple.
As per above post tho, store cards are the big one, hugely intrusive, many hundreds of terrabytes of info every year.

fixed.
And they make money by sending adds to your phone. In the future if they know where you are they can send adds from nearby shops to your device. Yup you are paying them to send you spam.
Spam but maybe not
Well if they actually get it right then maybe the ads will be helpful.
If I am in the mall to buy a pair of Jean and I get a link sent to my phone telling me that I can get 15% off at this store and 2 for 1 at that store, well good for me and them.
Also I live a vanilla life so who cares; the only people that are worried are the pervs, cheaters, and such that are afraid of getting caught.
Now I wouldn't mind that much as long as it was pertinent to my needs and consistent with my location and timing. How are you getting those ads? Texts?
I've been getting a bunch of spam calls and texts here lately and I do not list my cell number anywhere! So it must be from WP7. Am I right? I mean my number is listed in the donotcall.gov
Wow I didn't know they track android to.
Well now everyone knows that Windows Phone tracks your location and it will be saved.
Now the question is: Does anyone know how to turn it off? ^^

If you read that article and most importand others like that in the web you will be notice that:
1. Apple - Tracks you and keep the data for a year or more. And the most importand is that
anyone who can get the hands on your phone can see all the places you where
for a year !!!!!!!!!!!!
2. Android - Keeps your data for a week
3. WP7 --Keeps ONLY one record and it replace it with the next one
THATS THE BIG DIFFERENTS

Its Zdnet PC Magazine
from the article "

The big picture here is that Apple has lie on this matter ...
Six months ago when they say (i think) in a congress hearing that "We are not tracking location at all"
And still they say the same lie in a recent article in the "Apple's Media Center" aka Engadget blog..

Good choice of reading,,,, there's a good editorial on theregister about the legality of even collection, let alone using data harvested from a phone, since it is covered by different laws than, say, a computer, since it falls under the telecommunications act

But even though it is something mandated doesn't mean that the OS makers Apply, Google, and Microsoft are just doing it because of that. Trust me there are hidden agendas here with this whole location tracking thing be it from the government or the private sector.

Look at this. So, Search, from thegreatestdataminingcompanytheworldhaseverknown is now metasticized throughout the Android OS. Every page, every app, calls out to thatsearchengineeveryoneuses. It's even listening when the phone's OFF! I'll say that again: it's listening all the time. And there's no way to disable it! Coming from Intelligence, and as I've never trusted them, I've always deinstalled most G**gle apps, but now it appears their creepy circus-colored fingers have permeated throughout.
I realise that my point of view will strike many Upright Citizens as shocking because, after all, 'we can trust them'. All I can say is, our public education system has failed us. (Hint: If you are not paying for a product...
... you are the product)
Time for me to start looking into Linux options. Failing that, I'll just stick with Carbon 4.4.4, which serves fine. Oh, I'll probably try Andriod L, but I'm pretty sure now of what I'll find.
Interesting read. I never trusted them when it comes to your data and listening. Lol
If they want to watch me look at tits and asses, so be it
And the Moto X has had always on listening since release, better just throw the phone away and get a dumb phone...

How do they decide who to listen too? That's a lot of people to eavesdrop on. ?

Reading that post says to me that the phone listens when the screen is off, not when the phone itself is off.
There are also options to turn off the "search from any screen" feature.
So I guess I am not quite as paranoid as you, yet.
Maybe that's why fewer devices have removable batteries; so we can't turn them off all the way.

You have a misconception of your importance. This, you were trained into though, so you come by it honestly.

Doesn't matter. With a security mindset you assume it's always you. Ask Schnier.

Ya, but what proof do we have at this point that it's not listening when actually -off-? I have none. (ref: OnStar) If you deal in sensitive matters, would you give them the credit? I wouldn't.
Looking into this, I find there is no viable Linux alternative, as we used to have with Opie. So either I block everything G**gle with an independent app like Android Firewall, or do with 4.4.4.
Oh no! Now everyone will know about my life because I'm super-important.
I'm not going to even try to say that Google does no wrong and doesn't use most of the data we send to it for advertising, but they don't listen to you, the phone does.
The phone listens for certain frequencies of sound in certain orders, if it doesn't see those, it keeps looking. It doesn't record every single thing said and send it to Google, it only sends what you say to it (everything past "OK Google").
It's the same way a button works. Nothing records when a button isn't pressed, but things records when it is.
As for the rest of Google, they do make their living off of a free service, what more can you expect? I'd rather pay for a no ad version of their stuff instaid, but untill that's possible, that's just the way it works if you want those beautiful services.
i really couldnt give a flying hoot nannies @#$% about that i have got absolutely nothing to hide. i read an artical a while back that the CIA tracks anybody who is "tor curious" hi CIA i really dont care if you're reading this because im on you internet monitoring list or whatever. i am not doign anything that i dont have the right to do. Damn i love the US. anyhow if your concerned about that what about this than?

It's simple my friend...... A smartphone is not for you then. Get an old flip phone and no one will spy on you. ?
No tablet or computers with cameras or microphones either.
New cars have Bluetooth... Not good.
Some TV's and video game consoles have cameras. Gone.
Can't think of anything else just yet. ?
Yeah.. it's not recording and streaming everything you say. The always listening feature isn't going to decipher everything you say until it matches the hot word, that would kill your battery. It's only kicks in when it detects multiple tones in a certain order.. I don't even know why I'm typing this, think what you want dude, that's not how it works. Keep your conspiracy theories to yourself.

The phone has a co-processor which is independent of the main system. Sure, its main function is to watch for keywords and instigate searches based on commands, but it can also be co-opted. I'm not saying any more because apparently I'm frightening a few people here who don't want to face it.

Nice trivializing there, Darth. Of course I've hardened what I have, and since this is such a touchy subject I'm not giving any hints. You have no idea who I am or why I bring this up.
You guys just blithely hand over all your contacts, your network of friends, your calendar, the websites you visit, your searches, your location 24x7, hell your very phone calls. I feel sorry for younger people these days who have no idea that all their online activity will follow them around -forever-. The stupid things they say online, being victimized by bullies, all will follow them to every future job application, every romantic engagement, and their future neighbors will know more about them than they can imagine. And I feel sorry for those whose self-esteem is so low that they feel worthless.
You just have no idea what prostrating yourself to the authorities like this, means. You have no idea what it was like in East Germany or Soviet Russia, much less where we're headed. You've never read 1984 or Fahrenheit 451. And you will pay the price by a subtle enslavement which is too abstract for you to understand, without an education. Something will smell bad but you will never be able to figure out what it is nor do something about it.
I am not here to bicker or school you. I was just trying to do y'all a favor by giving you a perspective that you may not have seen, with everyone so anxious to be "licking your lollipops". I tried to help, but some of you are too cool for me.
Thanks for that. Maybe you should unmask yourself and make a proper point rather than misguiding, misinterpreting and mistakenly telling everyone that they are stupid. Oh yes, and telling everyone what they may or may not have read (wrong on both counts).
Where did you get your education? Were you ever told to think for yourself? Let's go back over that last one again, as modernity tends to gloss it... Were you ever told to think for yourself?

^ completely agree
Yes, I know. I'm the bad guy, lol.
See, this is why no one any longer shares any real information with you on The Internets. You feel frightened of what you are doing when I demonstrate why... and so you senselessly take it out on -me- rather than getting your own sh*t together. Good job there.

Don't lie. No one will believe you after a while.
Remember, privacy is an inherent human right, and a requirement for maintaining the human condition with dignity and respect.
Cardinal Richelieu understood the meaning of surveillance when he famously said, "If one would give me six lines written by the hand of the most honest man, I would find something in them to have him hanged." Watch someone long enough, and you will find something to arrest -- or just blackmail -- with. Privacy is important because without it, surveillance information will be abused: to peep, to sell to marketers and to spy on political enemies -- whoever they happen to be at the time.
We do nothing wrong when we make love or go to the bathroom. (the adults here, anyway) We are not deliberately hiding anything when we seek out private places for reflection or conversation. We keep private journals, sing in the privacy of the shower, and write letters to secret lovers and then burn them. Privacy is a basic human need.
If we are observed in all matters, we are constantly under threat of correction, judgment, criticism, even plagiarism of our own uniqueness. We become children, fettered under watchful eyes, constantly fearful that --either now or in the uncertain future-- patterns we leave behind will be brought back to implicate us, by whatever authority has now become focused upon our once-private and innocent acts. We lose our individuality, because everything we do is observable and recordable.
How many of the adults present have paused during conversation in the past four-and-a-half years, suddenly aware that we might be eavesdropped on? Probably it was a phone conversation, although maybe it was an e-mail or instant-message exchange or a conversation in a public place. Maybe the topic was terrorism, or politics, or Islam. We stop suddenly, momentarily afraid that our words might be taken out of context, then we laugh at our paranoia and go on. But our demeanor has changed, and our words are subtly altered.
This is the loss of freedom we face when our privacy is taken from us. This is life in former East Germany, or life in Saddam Hussein's Iraq. And it's our future as we allow an ever-intrusive eye into our personal, private lives.
Liberty requires security without intrusion, security plus privacy. Widespread surveillance is the very definition of a police state. And that's why educated people must champion privacy even when we have nothing to hide.
The level of stupid in this thread astounds me. If someone wants your information or something of yours, they're going to get it. It doesn't matter if your phone is always listening or not.

'Good job' there, eh, "imnuts".
Giving up is not the answer.
i love how, when everyone doesn't jump on this tools bandwagon, he turns on the forums.
Op is as a TROLL!
