So I rooted the thing in order to remove some stock apps that just take app space and do nothing...I used 'Root Uninstaller".
Removed Wisepilot,Postcard,Playnow, etc. ,result:25 Mb free before,25 Mb free after?!
->apps removed,free space completely unchanged.Why???
So I installed root explorer and began searching for the apps remains myself.Couldn't imagine it,android system is complete MESS.Anyway, there are 25 mb free in the /data folder,so I assume that's the folder...cant find the apps I deleted, only their empty folders. There's another folder- /system,that has 38 Mb free, but that's no use to me...
Help please,I'm lost in there.Where are the files I should clean up ?

Try searching with root explorer this apps in data/app and system/app (.apk files) and delete them.
Ah,now I see...the stock apps folder is separate from user apps folder.I have some questions then:
1.Can I install apps there?38 Mb free
2.Can I merge them somehow?
3.Which apps are ok to remove(no damage) by the way?
4.What's the goal of the phone being rooted then?I wanted to free some space, but since I can't It's useless by now.Anything else to do?
1. Yes you can.
2. What do you mean merge? it should be in system/app
3. Just dont remove system files. Just remove the app you wanted to remove eg Removed Wisepilot,Postcard,Playnow.
4. Rooting the phone can give you overall access to your phone filesystem and even put custom ROM in it?
Dont tell me you rooted your phone without knowing its pros and cons?

You have full control of your phone (mainly acces to system files, edt, copy, del).
U can install any soft which needs root acces and upgrade functionality of your device.
Recommend!
Cool, how do i do that?(install apps is stock apps folder instead of user apps folder)

hi, my legend is running low on internal memory and i would like to know if there is any way to explore it i already checked installed apps and there is no way that i have only 8mb left with few apps,i think the system stores old installers and such somewhere because the memory keeps getting lower everyday
Which rom are you using?
using stock 1.31 with few mods :/
Yeah, I found that I ran out of internal memory pretty quick so I followed the instructions on this board to root it with a rom that had a2sd (apps to sd card).
You could do that, or you could just hold off as Froyo (Android 2.2) will have that feature. No idea how long you'll be holding off for though.

You could try Androot (soft root)(search for it) and then get root explorer and then delete any APK's left on the device from using HTC sync, they should be stored in DATA/DRM/TMP (or something like that ).
My friends Legend was down to 15mb and removing all the stuff that had been installed via HTC Sync, got him back to over 100mb free (dam Swype beta's and iGO8 ).
HTH.

Is there any way to remove the carrier bloatware and such through with Androot and Root Explorer?
I tried deleting the Teeter.apk and .odex file for example with Root Explorer (mount r/w active of course), it yet it's still in the programs list and it runs. If I reboot my device and return in the /system/app folder it's back.

for stock app you have to use this method
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...apps-from-the-htc-desire-with-adb-in-windows/
but you have to do it before first boot of the rom else you will get some kind of errors (they just show up as "false" null or something like that if you try to add widget or something)

Search for 'move to SD'.
Search the Market for App 2 SD
App to sd opened up about 25% more memory. Thanks guys
You can also try Darktremor a2sd script. It should allow you to move not only apps that can be moved to SD card but every apps along with the dolvik cache and user data files.
I haven't tried it on my HD2 yet and I know its still in beta, so I can't guarantee you whether it will work or not. But at least it worth a try. If u wanna try it do a nandroid backup first, just in case it mess something...

You can delete unused stock apps by purchasing an app called 'Root Explorer' from the market (or install any root-enabled file explorer really, i just like root explorer the best lol) and delete the .apk file of whatever app you don't want from /system/app directory of your phone. If your rom loads the system to ram memory, you also will have to delete the .apk from /system/ram/app directory or it will re-appear

I got root explore and did the following. clicked on root explorer then went into sysytem then app and deleted the facebook and twitter apk. They still appear in my apps though. Is there something elseim supposed to do?
Still no instructions on how to delete stock apps via root explorer? I found this on the thread to my rom but dont know how to install it. I got it on my desktop but now what? Can anyone help?
If you wish to gain an additional 27MB for apps in /data/ you can install the my new partition layout MAX[Build.v1.1.7]. This is NOT required and you can use any of my other partition layouts with build v1.1.7. However if MAX[v1.1.7] partition layout is used with older builds your Phone will not boot. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Navigating through my root tree, I´ve stumbled at so many bloatware files I just want to delete to save some storage space (16GB version here) but I´m a little afraid of. They are on the /System/App folder and for every .apk there´s a .odex file, so I would like to delete them both. Is it safe? Is there any verification process at boot of these files? Some of them look like really system apps that I´ll never touch, but others are for other phone carries in my country, social networks I´ve never heard before etc.
There´s another folder called /System/Apps/Bootup that I would love to delete files from, there´s a lot of LG crapware in there that I think are loaded at boot but I have the same fear of bootloops...
Any solution to my urge to free some memory?
Hi,
Delete some apps in /system/app not gonna free up your "sd card" storage... You always will have the same free amunt of memory available on your 16 Gb...
It's normal to have an .odex file under eachs system apps, your rom is odexed (search on Google if you don't know what is it).
You can delete some system apps but be careful at what apps you delete, make a backup first.
Some system apps are alright to delete along with the .odex ones too. There's a list in the general section I believe that lists off apps that can be deleted with no issue.
Problem is though unless you plan to store stuff in your system partition, deleting apps doesn't really increase your usable storage.
Sent from my LG G2
Re,
Yes there is a (brief) list here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2456974&highlight=list or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2521066.
Like SupaSwag said when you delete an app, delete the .odex file too. If you don't know what you are doing I recommend you to leave the system apps as there are to avoid any kind of issues. At best you'll gain a little free RAM and maybe a little battery life without some apps runing/connecting to the network in background but in any case you will not gain more usable storage. At worst some function will not work at all, Force Closes, bootloop, etc...
In any case backup first (backup in recovery if something goes wrong and you encounter a bootloop) or at least a backup with an app like Titanium Backup (and make an uptade.zip in Titanium).
And what do you think of the apps in the bootup folder?
And then, how van I free some space for my mp3s? Coming from a S3 with a 64gb microSD card.

Re,
It's some LG apps, the name of the apps say all: TaskManager, FileManager, etc... Nothing very important it's LG stuff but it depends of you... I deleted all the apps in the /system/apps/bootup because I don't need them with my use, but you?
I think the best is to freeze those apps with Titanium Backup, use your phone as "normal" for a few days and if you don't have any issues or if you realize that you don't need them, then delete them...
Another solution is to rename the apps you don't want with the .bak extension, in case you need an app you can rename it by removing the .bak extension, reboot and the app is here
Hello friends this is my first contribution to this forum, this file removes unnecessary built-in apks present in, /system/app & /system/priv-app.
I will miss the applications removed?
No, because a current copy of them is running on /data/app
Goal
Remove unused applications by the system
Free up space in the device memory
Compatibility
Nexus 5 android 6.0.1 must have root and twrp
How to use
Installed the android 6.0.1, get in playstore and update all applications, now just flash the zip via TWRP.

This is a system partition
The deletion is useless because you can't use this space and you won't appreciate any differences
Read here, it is very very important
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64208563&postcount=3393
Personally I prefer to disable unnecessary apps
Pay attention
I do not like duplicate files, disabling an app the same will continue in the system, the idea is to not disable an app.
If I have the upgraded chrome in data\app I will not want an unusable copy of it on \system\app. My list does so with 30 Apps, if they are all updated on DATA I see no utility in maintaining obsolete unusable in the SYSTEM, and we still have the possibility to uninstall those we dislike.

If you read that post he clearly says that to modify system you need to delete things from it to be safe. He is pointing out that it is an unknown. He said even to make small changes you would need more space. I see no reason to leave unneeded files in system. Maybe you want to run an app as system app and these unneeded files are getting in the way. Nothing wrong with getting rid of them.
We can use some root enabled file app managers (like es explorer, solid explorer) to uninstall the system apps.
I just want to know if is it safe or not?
And is it different than using flashable script?

File explorers with root function can enable manual removal of system apps, but it is laborious and tedious remove as many apps, It is safe if you know what you are removing, because the system is running if you give problem can fall into a bootloop... my flash file is safe removal of 30 apps, all with updated copies of the same in DATA folder so I ask you to enter the play store and update it before you use it, nothing is lost only copies obsolete and useless are removed.
The advantage here is not to miss anything, remove enough waste Rom, and return the power to uninstall what you do not want. I do not use play books, play movies, keep, Drive, Hangouts... so without losing any, then after the flash zip i have the freedom to uninstall what I want.
I have the 8GB/256GB direct from OnePlus and looking at the system partition size see it is 2.7GB and almost full. OOS is 9.0.5
Does OOS and OP6T have a fixed system size or does it resize according to needs when flashing?

Did you ever find any info about this? I have the same config, barely used the phone for 1 day and only have 54MB free
The system partition does seem a bit tight. 've got about 60 mb free.
Looks like priv-apps, where OP has put their own bloat, is taking up most of the space that could be deemed useless.
A "community" debloater script could be useful, I'm thinking.
Gaining place in system partition is irrelevant as by definition the it's reserved for system apps you don't gain anything for your personal apps located in /data partition. This one is dynamic and adapts itself.
Debloat is only interesting if you want to get rid of unused system apps eventually, more a cosmetic goal.
54.5mb left in system for me, running 9.0.6 here. Now how the hell OP can fill a nearly 3GB partition with an Android build is beyond me. That's a lot of bloat!

Wouldn't that system partition be for both A & B slots so it's really 1.4GB or so for the ROM? That falls inline with what the full ROM update sizes are (and typically have been for the last few OP devices). :good:

I thought Diskinfo showed only the mounted system? I might be wrong though! It does make more sense since a 3GB rom installation seems overkill!
I just updated to the latest 9.0.15 and Solid Explorer says "0 B free of 2.71 GB" for the root partition. Unable to use many of my apps that need to push something in the system partition, it says no space left.
Has there been any workaround for this? I've got really less apps installed and I remember nice amount of space left before upgrading.

Bro, I too faced the same problem when I flashed the latest 9.0.15 rom first. I am rooted and wanted to chnage the hosts file, but total commander and other files managers like ES, EZ all gave an error that /system has not enough memory. Then I thought of reflashing the same rom again as I did earlier, and things worked out fine. I was able to edit the hosts file and save it. I was able to mount it. But still I just have 7 mb left of 2.71 GB. I don't know the exact reason for this :/
Yep same here, glad others are seeing this, not glad any of us are. Hoping for a solution soon.

Same here. Was gonna post a screenshot, but it looks like everyone is becoming aware of the issue.
Just an fyi, I tried deleting a few things like icon pack apks to see if it would free up space. Diskinfo shows it still full but titanium backup says I have 6.7 mb free. I thought that was enough space for my adaway hosts file to work, but it still says my storage is full.

I moved some things around in the system/reserve folder. It has OnePlus apps in it. I moved the whole folder, changed my font with ifont and did the adaway, but I couldn't move the folder back due to space. I remade the folder and moved most of the apps back, but couldn't move everything. I left out the icon packs and a few other things. I wonder if I can just reinstall those apks if I really want the apps? So far, I haven't noticed any issues. I still have enough space available for these apps, but I guess Android won't let them move due to space.
Just updated to OB14 and the system storage is FULL!

Go to root folder.
Then go to System and then App.
Find the folder for the app you want to delete (I removed Google Play Movies which is in a folder labelled "Video").
(optional but recommend copy the folder somewhere on your regular partition (e.g. any of your normal folders like downloads, twrp, etc.)
Then delete the APK in the folder. I kept the folder in case I want to add it back I'd remember what it was called.
Reboot phone.
Enjoy the free space.
