You need to odin back to 2.1. The search for an app called z4root mod. This will allow you to gain root access the doenloan rom manager and install CWM and from there you can install any 2.2 rom you want

Did you just root? Did u also install a rom on it?
thanks for the replys =] im not using the model with a headphone jack, im using the original model 32B.
i have not installed any ROMs on it, im thinking about unrooting it, and then trying to root it again, do you think that will help?

trying will give you the best answer.
You don't get root access on the default rom. After you root you need to install a custom rom to get access to applications that require root.
thanks, worked perfectly =]
I had a stock 2.1 Epic rooted with Z4. Manually upgraded to 2.21 effortlessly, all works well.
Tried rerooting with Z4 multiple times and it would not work. I removed Z4 from my Epic.
How can I reroot? The good news it Titanium is still freezing the apps I previously had frozen. However, I have no way to add freeze or unfreeze.
Thanks,
Todd
If z4root don't work just use the one click root with clock work. Its easy and straight forward

Thanks I found the problem I had the old Odin version and then I used the update that had root and recovery built it worked fine after that. I was wondering if you knew of anywhere I could find a kernal that allows overclocking and or has a 600 mhz step in it?
If your going to flash a froyo rom, there are no kernels yet. If your going to start on a 2.1 rom then thee are a few god ones around like the phoenix kernel, the extreme kernel and numerous others that allow over clocking and under clocking. Check the epic development threads for the 2.1 roms and they have the links to kernels there.

Same here, Id rather have an instructional video instead. Because this one click root is not working. I'm wasting too much time already trying to root.
OneClickRoot with Superuser for EPIC w/Froyo
I have a link for a oneclickroot for the epic running froyo without getting a cannot or willnot or failed because of Read Only. Unfortunately because I am a newbie it says I have to post 8 posts before posting an outside link. I uploaded it to my personal website which I use to advertise dogs that I sell. If you want PM me and I will give you the link to grab it off of my site.

Trying to root my epic on my mac and cant seem to find anything that really seems to work, I am really starting to doubt my own intelligence at this point and really don't want to screw up my new phone....any help or a rooting for morons walkthrough would be helpful, thanks so, so much!
you could always run windows virtualized on your mac and do it that way
Try this thread.

it worked, thank you so much, i dont know why i couldnt find that before, thanks a lot!
You could have also used an app called z4root.
You are welcome. It can be difficult to find info in the forum but that is the link I used to root my epic back in April and I had the linked stored so it was easy to send it your way.
Z4root works if you just want root but if you want to install custom roms you need clockwork. The link I have allows you to root and instal clockwork.

My problem was that I would download SuperOneClick and it would not give me actual root. The SuperUser icon was in my app drawer but if I tried to use any apps that required root access they wouldnt let me. When I opened Super Manager and clicked "Enable Root Access" a popup would come up and it would say something like "Your ROOT image will not work" or something like that.
The problem was this:
I found out that I had downloaded the most recent version of SuperOneClick. This version will not give root if you had the official 2.2. update. You needed to download the 1.5.5 version.
I hope this will help anyone who made the same mistake as me.
anybody? im freaking out since no one else has had this problem.
Try enable USB debugging
Settings > Applications > USB Debugging > Enable.
You should repost the OP with the solution in case someone else has the problem, if not people will search in vain.

good idea. Ill do it now.
Thanks alecjake, I am on ka6 and have heard there were issues with the latest SuperOneClick. Odd that an older version can root froyo but the newer version can't. Very helpful advice.

One thing you also want to do, is after using superoneclick is to reboot. That way root actually works.

I also have problems with rooting my andriod, I ran Titanium Backup but it required root access to work, so I downloaded z4root and universal root apk, it says that my phone is rooted but still Titanium Backup cant detect any root access.
Also my Link2sd App(app2sd alike) also requires root, I think I rooted my phone but still doesn't work. A noob like me really need your help guys.. thanks in advance..
BTW i am running 1.6 andriod firmware.
Easiest way I've found is to use AIO Vibrant Toolbox. I'm on my phone so I can't link it but just go to the development section and look for the post with the program name in the thread title. It's super easy to root with it. Just follow the included directions!

1.6? do you have a t959 vibrant? if you do, you need to get to stock 2.1 JFD, then you can follow these instructions:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/605-guide-root-odin-clean-metamorph-swype-tricks-ninja-apps-everything/
or go with the AIO toolbox which is more user friendly
After all the moaning and groaning about loosing root after the OTA I bothered to lauch into boot loader today and check my "S" status, and it is OFF. does this mean that i can flash a custom recovery? If so, where can I find a flashable version of Clockwork or amon?
any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you used unrevoked forever to achieve root, you will not lose s-off from an ota. After receiving an ota you can simply flash a PC36IMG of a custom recovery and then flash the latest superuser.zip from your recovery.

Thanks guys, i got it done but had troubles with superuser not flashing. Had to go to androidsu.com and get the ginger compatible version. Didnt even know there was such a thing. Only issue now is that it kicks an error in rom manager when trying to fix permissions. Any ideas?

I think you need to flash a rom now. I don't think you can add superuser to the recent OTA. Once you flash a rom, you will be rooted, just not on stock (unless you flash the stock GB).

Remove rom manager and reinstall it. when you try to fix permissions this time you'll see the SU prompt to accept.
You need to flash a rooted rom now... Soff does not provide you with SU permissions inside stock rom.

Thats what Im doing next, uninstalling it and reinstalling. It does currently get su permission, but something just may not be right.
You can have su on the OTA, you just have to go to androidsu.com and select the version for gingerbread. Worked for me....
Try downloading titanium backup from the market. when it first loads click on problems at the bottom. this will install the newest version of busybox which may help the rom manager issue.
Sorry, edit...

Could it be from trying to run fix permissions in Rom Manager but having Amon Ra loaded? Or maybe still the wrong version of SU? I believe there's an app in the market by the same guy to fix Superuser version.
