[TRADE] Epic 4G - Nexus S General

Hey,
I have a great condition Epic 4G up for trade for a Nexus S 4G. Everything works great and it comes with a charger and a dock (20 dollar value!), also with a high quality USB cable. The Epic 4G has a great android community and has many roms available for you flash-aholics, and I'm sure a lot of you will enjoy its huge keyboard. I just want to change it up a little bit with a new phone. I am willing to trade in the Tempe-Phoenix area. PM me with offers or if you have any questions, post them here.
Thank you.
EDIT: Also comes with $30 Extended battery 3500 mAh, and $20 Game Gripper, plus stock OEM 16gb SD Card, All Free of charge.
PICS: http://www.mediafire.com/?3qsy8mm9d1bav2m

Just so you know you may want to offer some extra $$ as well. I came from the epic and the nexus is a far superior phone despite having nearly identical specs. The epic plus an additional $50-100 might make someone more likely to bite. Good luck on your trade.

I threw in some more goodies

The 16GB SD card comes with the phone, don't know why that's mentioned as an extra. Anyway I still think with all that you may need $$ but I could be wrong. Good luck either way, you'll love the Nexus when you get it!

Well, it isnt extra, but some people may not know it came with it. I just forgot to list it.

Why is the Nexus S, with identical hardware, a far superior phone?

The hardware is not identical. The Nexus S is thinner, lighter, unencumbered by a physical keyboard, has NFC chip.....

However, the epic has the same processor, a better camera, and a keyboard. Those are pluses. the only thing that the nexus has on the epic is a nfc chip. That's why I think this is a fair trade.

I'm not saying the Nexus S is better, or that it's not a fair trade.

Don't worry, This is a friendly trade

Here are some pictures.

Nexus s is superior because its pure android, its not polluted with touchwiz.

Too each his own, the AOSP project for the epic 4g is comming along smoothly, and should be quite finished when GB Source drops for us, even though we have really, really good leaks for gb right now.

You right I been working in 2.3.4 for the epic just holding on kernel source. Art I think its a fair trade if you find someone who bought the nexus and didn't realize the specs on it for instance someone who can't do without the camera, sd card slot, audio quality so goods luck bro

I wouldn't trade my Nexus for an Epic.
Matter of fact I sold my Epic for $200 and scored a brand new NS4G on Craigslist for $170 a few days ago. Yeah, I couldn't believe my luck. Haggled the seller down to 170 from 225. Haven't been able to put it down since.
Finding it hard to decide on which rom to stick with permanently MIUI or stock? MIUI is just so sick though...hmm hmm hmm

Nice lol I bought mine like last week and even though I misread the keyboard I love my nexus better I sold mine for 260 with game gripper 3 batteries couple of cases and extra charger and bought a nib nexus for 270

Nexus S or EVO 4G

Which is a better phone all around? I was thinking about getting a Nexus.
*PLEASE VOTE AND GIVE YOUR OPINION *

just phone wise definitely nexus S.
however it doesnt have a sd card slot and the screen is abit smaller.
also consider the carrier and if you would prefer that over sprint.
I would wait till they announce the Nexus S on Sprint and make sure the specs are the same. I would assume they are with the exception of adding a CDMA radio with wimax.
Definitely Nexus S.
Evo is nearly 2 generations old. (and RAPIDLY showing its' age)

I just got mine a couple months ago and I don't real think its showing it age. I have had all the Verizon big ones like the X and the Inc and I know that they are also not the newest phones but there is always something that will be a bit better and faster. The biggest thing that I like is that Sprint is truly unlimited. Im almost up to 9 gigs with 4 days left in my cycle. I need unlimited because I had to get rid of my home internet due to lack of work in my business right now. The Nexus S is a nice phone but really..no sd card?...and I had the Fascinate with verizon and I had to depend on devs for gps fixes and usable roms but I know the S is a google phone so it shouldn't indure the lack of Samsung updates. Its all of what you like and which service does well for you in your area also.
Oh lord not another one of these threads :rolls eyes: lol
If nexus s doesn't have an sdcard slot(hopefully it does) how is it even a competitor with other smart phones out there. I'd pick my evo all day because of the huge ass screen and its an HTC. Evo 3D sounds like a winner(based on rumors).

+1 Screen and HTC
16GB of internal storage is a lot. If you need more that's fine, but 16 GB should satisfy a ton of people.
Edit: Things better on the Nexus S.
GPU: PowerVR SGX 540 can compete with the Tegra 2, EVO's Adreno 200 barely beats the original 2009 Droid's PowerVR 530.
Cameras: Samsung makes good mobile cameras, HTC includes terrible ones.
Display: SAMOLED > Lousy TFT
Internal Storage: EVO has a microSD slot but has very limited internal storage. Nexus S is capped at 16GB but has way more internal storage for Apps and 16GB is not bad at all.
NFC: I'm sure this will come in handy, will it this year? Maybe not but it's good to have one.
Gyroscope: Better gaming, especially FPS'.
Software: This is tough but you can knock a Google supported phone. Come Ice Cream time, you'll be watching Nexus S users playing with a fully working, HW accelerated OS.
It's just a really tough decision for me bc I'm thinking about getting the Nexus and giving the Evo to my girl. Don't get me wrong I love my Evo, I'm just ready for something new!

Like i said..there will always be a better phone than what you have but sometimes the network and carrier matter also..If I go 10 miles away from my house with T-Mobile I go to Edge....not on Sprint. In the end it really doesnt matter to me what people decide on..I have to use whats best for me and so does everyone else. If price matters though I'm sure you have seen if your a Bestbuy rewards zone member you can get the S for $99 on a 2 year agreement with the coupon...not a bad deal.

If I can manage to keep myself from going to get that Nexus then I may just wait for the new EVO or Nexus 4G.

Is the nexus s considered the fastest android phone?
It seems to me that the Nexus S is going to be a lot more difficult to root than my EVO was. I used the original Simple Root so I guess that says A LOT!!!

I read through some of the guides and its a lot of stuff that im not too sure I know how to do. It also says that you have to re do clockwork every time you want to flash a ROM...
If the Nexus S hits Sprint, you better believe I'll be selling my EVO to buy one.
1. The earlier you sell your EVO, the more you can get for it.
2. Nexus S will sell for a lot more than the EVO by the time HTC has a dual-core badboy on the market.
You see what I did there?
I'd say Evo, but that's because I've had nothing less than perfectness from my own Evo. However, the Evo 3D was announced/leaked, so I'd wait on that, because truthfully that sounds loads better than the OG Evo. But, anyways, the Nexus S is also (I'd imagine) going to be one of the phones at the top of the list for updates since, as the adds say, it is "pure Google." and they love to roll out updates, whereas the Evo is moving down the ranks with all the new phones announced at MWC and the like. Also the Evo is a beast of a phone, much larger than the Nexus S. It's really hard to define a clear cut answer, just do research and pick the phone that provides what YOU want from it.

Really? Its a Nexus phone... While I personally dont love the Samsung construction of mine, there is something to be said of Nexus.
Part of that is the hack-ability, fastboot oem unlock. Same as N1. Literally two adb commands to root a NexusS, and recovery works just fine. Although I gotta say I miss AmonRa when using my Nexus, I just cant get used to Clockwork...
Both phones rock. NS is far beyond Evo internal wise, but I like the feel and look of my Evo far more. Only knock I have against the Evo (since buying a seidio3500, and having it last 48hours+) is the QSD8650 and Adreno200. Been available since the Eee pc in 2009....Not exactly new tech, and holy poop does my NS do 3d games like a different class of phones compared to my Evo. But then I go to HDMI the ***** to the TV for some N64oid+wiimote and....o yeah...
Edit: Forgot to mention, I think I'm gonna craigslist my NS for something dual core, if that says anything.
^^^^ see that's what I don't understand is the adb commands. How do I open the command prompts?

You'll be able to do little nerdy stuff on the atrix, so if rooting and having some fancy home screens considered enough then go for the atrix.
For me having 1 gb of memory + qHD res screen is a deal maker/breaker
Also, a doubt that the atrix's bootloader is gonna be locked forever anyway...

Go for the Atrix you'll love it I'm sure. You said you'd like to root and have a little fun with it, you can hook up the Atrix to a nice sized flat screen tv via hdmi and turn it into a computer. The Nexus S is also kinda outdated tech already. The newest thing is the dual core and 1GB of ram that's more powerful than my netbook lol.

Agreed!
I like to tweak, and I have been more than happy with what I have been able to do on my 1st droid phone with the help of the XDA community so far.
I connected my phone to my flat screen in the living room last night to show the the Webtop and the family couldn't believe what they saw.
Get an Atrix, and in 5 years when nobody carries laptops anymore, and it's all done with cell phones, you can say you had the 1st one!
I have an atrix right now and was thinking of switching to the nexus s, don't want to lose my 3.5 g though
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Both the phones have their own stand point.
Atrix on one hand does the deal breaking job with its Dual Core Processor/qHD Screen, but, it has MotoBlur and no Gingerbread in sight yet.
Nexus S on the other hand is Google's own, it has got all the Goodies except the Dual Core Processor/qHD Screen, but has Gingerbread on it already, has a SuperAMOLED Contour Display etc...
Holding two phones in your hands and comparing them side by side will do the trick. Go with what you like.
So far I love my Atrix. Haven't used NS yet, no comments about the performance, but if anyone wants to try different roms, NS is the one. There are a lots of Atrix users not liking the phone because of MotoBlur, which seems ok to me.
Personal Opinion : I like the way the bootloader is locked, so that you will have consistency on your phone, you don't have to back up your phone, messages, notes taken etc every now and then just because you are trying thousands of different ROMs available every weekend.
The Nexus S is clearly faster despite having inferior hardware, scrolling through homescreens and the app drawer is much faster on the nexus S. However, the atrix has the edge when you're actually opening those apps, albeit a small edge. The nexus S will receive more updates than the atrix and it's also already on a new version of the android OS.
However, i love my atrix. The fingerprint scanner (when it works) is pretty darn sweet and a great feature to have. I don't think dual core is even utilized yet, but i hope when it is the atrix will be even better than it already is. Oh, and the nexus S doesn't support 4G (?source). While the atrix doesn't have 4G yet, it should be coming out very soon.

HAHAHAHAH man i love this forum
I switched to a nexus s, I get the same quadrant scores if not higher than the atrix. The phone feels great works amazing and the roms only make it better. There is no lag and the camera kicks the crap out of the atrix. Battery life is phemominal and much better than I had on the atrix, plus it's much more vibrant with the samoled vs pentile.
I would get a nexus because at least for the moment it works better than the atrix.
Not trying to be a jerk, but as someone who has had both devices I can say nexus is much better.

I agree with you but I guess you are happy right now with NS because of the possibility to be able to flash any ROM anytime you want because of the Devs support. I wouldn't compare them both right now, as Atrix is not upgraded to Gingerbread yet. If the NS is still kicking Atrix's butt even after the upgrade, I am all in for this beast by Google.
I still love the stock Android experience, but Atrix's performance is not that bad. It does the job, it performs well. To me, except the VOIP voice support issue, everything else is much better than my N1 and iPhone 4. Battery life is way better than both, higher res screen is great, plus a Dual Core processor is a deal breaker... again, all of this is a personal preference.

Need opinions: Nexus S 4G vs Evo 3D

I'm due for an upgrade from an Evo.
I have 2 choices, Nexus S 4G or Evo 3D.
I've had the Evo since the first day it came out and loved it since. So I'm kinda hesitant on wanting to give it up.. so I'm thinking Evo 3D might be a nice upgrade but I keep hearing Nexus is a better phone.
Which one would you choose, and why?
I'm a sense type of Guy so I would stick with HTC. I think the 3d is faster than the nexus too.

Going from an evo to a nexus really isn't an upgrade.......get the 3D (dual core).
Nexus is and lighter, and supposedly guaranteed to be up to date with OS releases, if that's important to you. Everything else I've read says that even the old Evo 4G is better.

As long as you root I wouldn't worry about the OS. My girl used her upgrade on a nexus s and its no way better than my evo IMO. Plus it has radio/signal issues based on what everyone has been complaining about. Why go backwards?
Nexus S

*no HDMI
*radio issues
*Samsung lol
*many more

The only thing the NS has over the EVO really is battery life. EVO 3d is the latest and greatest, NS is 2009/2010 tech under the hood, already outdated IMO.
It had a nicer body? I do wish the evo wasn't so square and more like the my touch or the upcoming sensation in body type.
I went with the Evo 4G over the Nexus S...No HDMI on the Nexus was a killer and I really like this kick stand

Well, the user experience is what counts, of course. But wit the Nexus S you're giving up the HDMI out, you're giving up the kickstand, you're giving up 1/2" of screen realestate, you're giving up an SD card slot (and potentially 16 GB of additional storage) and I've heard the Nexus S isn't any faster.
I do like the form factor (size, shape and weight) though, to be honest and would probably have gone with the Nexus S instead of my Evo had it been available at Sprint when I signed my contract (I asked about it at the time but they coulnd't give me a firm release date).

GPU being slightly better doesn't mean its a better phone overall. I play with both phones on the daily and its not a night and day difference......its still old technology either way.
Well thanks everyone.
I have decided to go with the Evo 3D.
The two big breakers for me were:
Nexus S is made by Samsung.... mehh..
and that it's... made by Samsung.
I've played with it a little.. it feels VERY cheap.
I'm going to upgrade to the new Evo.
Thank you all.

Slightly better? Its 4-5x as powerful and on par with today's dual cores. The Nexus S has okay hardware, slight but needed upgrade over the EVO because of the GPU. CPU wise it'll perform about the same as dual cores until Android and its apps gets proper support; by then there will be GPU acceleration and since the NS' GPU is reallly good, you won't notice a visual difference anyway.
That said, newer phones will be better on paper but the Nexus S is all about software. You can bet on the Nexus S having Ice Cream months before the 3D or SGS. I personally like my NS (was going to get the Sprint N1 over the EVO 4G before it was cancelled but have a ATT N1) and will jump immediately to the next Nexus. Will never own another non Nexus Android phone.

You expect that to be true with ICS? Anyway, get ready to watch the Nexus S and Nexus 3 running a stable build of ICS for 6 months before any non Nexus phone. If you thought CM 7 was buggy, get ready to see what GPU acceleration does to porting.

Where did I hear Nexus S2/S+ in July?

Learn from my mistakes....stick with Nexus phones!

Ok, so I bought a Nexus S around January of this year. Full price from Best Buy. Thought it was fantastic. It was my first "Nexus" phone. But a few months later, I got bored and heard about the Dual Core HTC Sensation. So I sold my Nexus S and bought the Sensation.
I loved this phone at first, but the novelty wore off. But the entire time I had it, the Nexus S was in the back of my mind. Sure the Sense 3.0 looks good, but for a dual core phone it didn't feel better. The Nexus S is faster. I know that Sense uses a lot of memory, and the Sensation was my first Sense phone, but it ruined Sense for me. I dislike Sense because of the Sensation and will probably never pick up another phone running Sense.
So, this weekend I sold the Sensation to a user on this site and bought another Nexus S. I feel that at this point, if it isn't a Nexus phone, then I don't want it. Dual core or not!
LOL thanks, i guess that summarizes what i've been hesitant about
I was also thinking about picking up the Sensation, or the G2x, but no matter how i looked at it, it didn't have as much development going on as the Nexus S
also the lack of SAMOLED is a big no no for me.
the only phone i've set my eyes on at the moment is the Samsung Hercules due out on the 09/26th
Yes, I missed the hell out of the Super AMOLED screen. It was one of those "don't know what you've got till its gone" type of things.
I would stay away from the Sensation and stay waaay the hell away from the G2X phones
The Super AMOLED spoiled me so I hope that Samsung gets the next Nexus phone too.

did you see the news about Google buying Motorola? http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-20092362-94/google-to-buy-motorola-mobility-for-$12.5b/
... seems like the next Nexus is going to be a Motorola
i wouldn't mind if they build them with SAMOLED from Samsung
after all Google is buying Motorola to get the patents to protect all big 3 (HTC, Samsung, Motorola)

Too late into the development cycle for Moto to get the next Nexus..but maybe the one after that. Plus, Andy Rubin just said even Moto would have to bid for the Nexus just like everyone else.

I returned my EVO-3D for my Nexus-S. The Nexus is the faster and smoother phone in my opinion.
Plus this screen after setting up Voodoo is amazing.
The next Nexus will be made by Samsung most likely or LG. I see Motorola making the Nexus-Four

I like the open, devvy nature of this phone.
I just wish my battery didn't suck.

To be quite honest, this is one of the less active boards, development wise. Not complaining, just pointing it out.

I don't mean xda's NS4G section, I mean the whole idea of the Nexus phones in general.

I think partly because it "just works".
The EVO boards everybody was trying to get AOSP/Cyanogenmod working and bugfree (bluetooth stack issues) and add Wimax support.
G2x also trying to get AOSP working, in a stable fashion. And they're trying to port the LG camera to AOSP. Also bluetooth issues there.
Here everything already just works.

Yeah, I remember seeing your name on the epic forums, the Epic ain't a bad phone, but the nexus is just to legit in every single way.

This has been covered ad nauseum, but basically the other phone development forums are swamped with activity, most of which revolves around trying to get their phones to be like the Nexus is out of the box.
Maybe someone can start posting ROMs with features like "SENSE-less, no Touch Wiz, MotoBlur removed, ZERO BLOAT!!!!!?!" and then we can be like the other forums.
I second that, OP. Had the NS4G but then bought an SGSII and jumped on AT&T. SGSII was an AWESOME phone hardware-wise, and really liked that I was only paying $10/mo data for unlimited hspa+. But software wasn't as good as stock GB, and I missed the form factor of the NS. So I sold the SGSII and now looking for an AT&T NS, probably a white one since they went down in prices recently...then consider the Nexus 3 when it comes out
I have to agree with most on this board. if you want the newest updates always and if you want all the apps to work with your phone right off the back, stick with nexus. skype and netflix worked with the nexus right off the back, it took a couple of months before most of the other phones caught up. nexus prime is definitely my next phone, and hopefully it drops soon

About to buy this phone! is it worth?

about to buy the gsm version of this phone to be use on tmobile.
i know this phone is about 2 years old but is it worth buying it for $200 USD
how is the development here? is it slow, abandon?
i see that there is a sense 4.0 rom for it! and its pretty good with latest update from Google.
I have a galaxy s2 t989 and im kinda tired of roms that are based on stock
i like to have different UI on a phone
I guess im looking for a good phone that have a variate of roms like sense, tw, vanilla. etc
and this one seems to be it. what do you guys think
This phone is a great phone! Are you buying it ne

I had the GS2, then got the Nexus S 4G. No regrets, I love it. Many ROMS/kernels to choose from, not to mention 4.1 is coming to the device.
thanks guys, I'm just waiting on a answer of this guys I found on cl. thought about the Gnex but it doesnt seem to beat this device when it comes with roms and such.
The only thing holding me on buying this phone and get the Gnex is the processor a dual core vs a single core.

Really and you have the HTC EVO 3D where you referring to that phone as garbage? That phone sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!
My Desire was better (LOL) but it is a good phone too! It is worth to buy it for 200.
its 100% worth it. i bouth the 19020a 7 months ago for 350$ and still dont think i wasted a cent. would probably pay it again if i broke this one
The Nexus S is one of the greatest mobile devices ever made. The hummingbird combo is such a strong processor for it's time, paired with a wonderful screen, sleek black look and styling, and most of all, a Wolfson DAC for top notch sound quality.
I would buy a Nexus S just as a ipod or ipod touch replacement. The fact that it's a phone too is a great bonus. The downside of course is only 16gb internal storage so some may need to be selective with what media you put on there, or get your cloud on.
Personally I'd try to get a GNex on the Google Play Store, its 150$ more and you probably won't get that (darn why did I get a year & half old phone) idea in your head lol It is still a great phone but if you've tried a 720p screen before its hard to go back to a 480p resolution, not to mention you'd be getting like an extra year of official Google support, who knows how many more official updates our Nexus S will get haha. Back on topic, yes the Nexus S is a great phone and you'd be getting amazing AOSP ROMs along with it but don't expect fully functioning sense and touchwiz ROMS, they are great but very buggy IMO.

The ban isn't complete until they pony up the cash. I just ordered the nexus after hearing about it. 350$ and the resell value will be high if the ban is permanent.

When i bought this phone 1 year ago there were already dualcore phones but the price of nexus s and knowing that it is official google phone attracted me to it.Today nexus s has ICS and soon coming JB ,my brothers LG O2X according to harware specs much better then nexus has GB on it and it performs much slower to my 4.0.4 offical ROM.So i would recomend this phone to everyone.I love it so much
