Watch out Gmail 2.3.5 update seems to break widgets and launchers that show unread Gmail. Now I wish I had backed up my GSII Gmail with TB...
Yeah that kind of sucks. Will just have to wait fire the launchers to provide us with an update!

You can do a Google search for Gmail 2.3.4.1 and install that. Fixed my problem.

or you can just go back to market, search for gmail and click uninstall updates.

Just download the previous version from forum or custom rom that has gmail inside. Just take the gmail.apk then install

I had issues rolling back... Even after uninstalling the update, my notifications were still broken, ended up doing a factory reset (and good thing I do a daily backup!)
Was having all kind of other problems with the new gmail app too...auto sync wasn't working anymore so had to refresh manually, emails sometimes wouldn't send and the number of unread emails wouldn't clear. A complete mess really

I can't update GMail, I can't even see it in the Market? Does anybody know why?
It's not among all the Apps I have downloaded.
I can't even find it when searching for it, it just doesn't show up!?

Just search for "gmail" in the market. App is preinstalled so it won't show in the apps downloaded from the market, but if you find it in the market it will just say "update". And yeah, 2.3.5 gmail breaks all notification services that are supposed to retreive unread emails, no longer possbile for now, but i use Samsung Social Hub anyway.
Here is a link to explain it further.
"Basically, previously an app just had to declare that they use the READ_GMAIL permission in it’s Manifest and it would all work. Now though, they’ve added the androidrotectionLevel="signature" which means that only the Gmail app itself can access it’s DB (as that’s the only thing which will have the right signature).
Which means that all the Gmail notifiers, widgets, etc in the Market will not work. Ever. The same can be said for FriendCaster’s Gmail notifications feature.
Thanks Google…."
Yeah!!! Thanks Google!
Edit: Also, Google's competitor (Windoz Phone) shows an unread count on their phones, why can't google have the same native widget that does an unread count. We had to completely rely on 3rd party developers, BUT NOW it wont work!
STUPID GOOGLE!

just don t install de update , or unistall it from market , it breaks , popup , missed reminder , etc.... i won t install untill the other app works with the new gmail
Gmail v2.3.5 seems to break ADWNotifier to. Because that can notify of e-mails from Gmail.
ADW Notifier can no longer do a "count" but can put up the question mark bubble, at least in Chuck Norris mode. Latest update fixed the FC issue it was having.
Google probably though they were helping increase Android security, as I imagine they changed the permissions to prevent potential privacy problems.
I unlocked Gmail 2.3.5. Pure messenger widget can read Gmail 2.3.5 (modded) if you follow 'solution 3' ... http://bit.ly/ph4T0a

Would be nice to try Social Hub, but it will not accept GMail as an account on my phone. Gave up on it.
Tried the uninstall update method. No go.
Google's starting to develop some of the M$ bad habits. Maybe they ARE getting too big.

I am having an issue with my stock Gmail app not pushing my new emails. It just started NOT happening all of a sudden. Any suggestions? Still on stock rom 2.1

Are you using any task killers?

i am having the exact same issue, it started today. the only way i can get my emails pushed to my phone is if i go to the gmail app and then do a refresh. i have to do this everytime i want to read my gmail on my phone. and i do not run any task killers. i am running bionix fusion. i have rebooted my phone, battery and sim pulls and nothing is fixing it.
ditto
I'm having the same problem.
Running:
-Bionix Fusion 1.1
-Project Core v1
I flashed the JI2 modem yesterday again to see if it would help improve my battery life. I'm not sure if that's the reason I'm not getting gmail pushed to my phone though.

Same here. NO task killers and have to refresh to get my emails. Only difference is I am on stock.
Had the same problem. Go to menu>applications>manage. Once there, press menu and change the filter to show all apps. Its set to 3rd Party by default. Then, find gmail, and gmail storage and clear the data and cache for both.
Open gmail and it should fix it.

Sorry, but it didn't work for me either. Bad thing is that there are no other good email apps for gmail. Maildroid is what I am currently using just so I can get notifications. One thing I forgot to mention was that it was working fine today before I downloaded Gmail notifier from the market. Deleted it, but it hasn't worked since.

Actually this fixed the issue for me - or so it seems so far.
I am having the same issue, and I also downloaded Gmail notifier from the market. I tried deleting the data and the cache as well, and so far no change.
I have stock JI6, never installed gmail notifier and it stopped working last night. Will try the cache method and report back.
Funny thing is that I have two gmail accounts. The one that's NOT tied to my phone user information works just fine and is getting the immediate push emails.
Same here no new emails are shown in the phone Gmail since last night
is Every other phone having the same problem now?

In this case, i would check settings on gmail server and in accounts & sync. Maybe try resetting the values just to deflag and reflag it.

Hey, guys. I just installed the DK28 Froyo Stock ROM. I was using Lookout Mobile Security to backup all of my contacts and pictures.
However, all of my contacts aren't syncing from Lookout. Is there an easier way to get back all of my contacts from Lookout?
Also, my account only shows the apps from the Marketplace that I had purchased, but not downloaded. Is there anyway to download everything I had before? Thanks.
Don't know about Lookout; I always sync contacts through gmail.
Don't know about pictures; all of mine are on my SDCard.
Your free apps do not show up in the marketplace...until now. Now that you're running 2.2.1, anything you DL will re-dl every time you replace ROMs or wipe your phone. (this may be due to updated marketplace and not 2.2, but I'm not sure)
Lookout is garbage. I use appbrain to save my app and google to save my contacts. Have you tried logging into your google on your phone to recover your contacts?

It's due to both.
It's Lookout Mobile Security. It's a great piece of software. However, I think it's stuck on restoring my photos.

No, Google didn't sync all of my contacts. Just some. Is there a detailed way to show how to sync my phone contacts with Google? It wants to sync like every e-mail address I've ever e-mailed with my phone.
Just today I started receiving facebook notifications on the top notification bar but I have never signed into facebook from the phone. I also checked the website and all of my notifications are turned off. I only get them when someone sends me a message and when I drag the bar down and click on it nothing happens. It is becoming really annoying so I would greatly appreciate any help.
If its popping under notifications then it would be because of a facebook app that u must of signed into at one point in time and to shut off notifications go into the face book app when the app loads push back sp yr at the screen of fifteenth options then just click the button next to the home button to bring up setting witch u can fix in there or just easily sign out

I have never signed into the Facebook app on the phone. In fact, I just did a factory reset after I had to SBF back to froyo to install the pre-rooted gingerbread. I even tried deleting the facebook app and still got the notifications. It shows up like an email notification, but with the email when you click on it it opens the email. With this notification, if you click on it, it just goes away but nothing else happens.
Then I have no clue of how to help u but if u don't have anything installed on ur phone yet u could all ways try to do another factory reset
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA Premium App
I never said I didn't have anything on my phone; I did a factory reset a week ago and since then I have installed alot of the apps/games I had prior. Facebook was one of the apps I installed, but I never signed in. Never before today have I received these notifications. I didn't think it was the facebook app since I never signed in, but I deleted it anyway and still got the notification. This would lead me to believe it is not linked to the actual facebook app itself. Within the past day, I have done anything that would lead me to believe it was behind these notifications.
Did you add a Facebook account through Blur? That is another possibility as the built in account system sends you notifications for some things, including messages.

Yes, but the reason I didn't think it was that is because the notifications just began yesterday and I have received messages prior to that with no notification. Do you know where I can get to the settings for that? When I go into "My Accounts" and click on Facebook it only gives me the option of removing account.
Ive used the Gmail application since Ive had my phone and Ive been using LauncherPro for about 2 months now as my default launcher. LP has always showed the email count in the launcher until this recent Gmail update. Now it doesnt even with the option checked too.
Anyone have any idea? Ive tried reinstalling LP with no luck.
It may have something to do with the Gmail update, since it adds Priority Inbox support, and the notifications are set up different. Try going to the Gmail settings - your email account - Labels to notify - make sure your Inbox and Priority Inbox are set to notify. If they are, maybe the LP developer needs to update to accommodate the new Gmail changes?
The newest gmail update has blocked access for all third party apps to access it. Multiple apps like launcher pro and missed it do not work now.

To add onto what everyone previous has said, the dev. of launcher pro made a blog post on his site (launcherpro.com) about this latest gmail update.
I didn't know that. Does the developer have plans to update?

Dev was supposed to rewrite the entire program. That was awhile ago and no dice. Not sure if there is a work around the gmail issue anyways.

it's not just lp,it's any home launcher that uses the notification

You can try rolling back to a previous version, but unfortunately we're at the mercy of Google right now.
it works fine for me, and i've been using launcher pro for a while now. no i don't have the e-mail count but the notifacation pull down is just good looking in gingersense.

I'm fairly certain almost everything else in launcher pro is running like normal for everyone with the exception of the gmail integration due to gmail's recent update.

SKORPiO1975,
Yes, this is a known issue. What happens is the Gmail App sends a notification to the upper Status
Bar and since the Kindle Framework is different than the stock ICS Framework it causes the bar
to disappear as it attempts to post a new message icon into the Kindle Framework. The solution
is simple:
1. Upgrade to Gmail 4.1.2 by installing the attached Gmail apk
2. Open the Gmail Settings, choose Message Actions
3. Change to Do Not Show
4. This solves the problem.
thank you prokennexusa the gmail app you linked above. I downloaded the one from the play store earlier and it kept crashing. I haven't encountered any problem w/ your version yet. Also, do you have an ICS version of the contacts and calender that i can use w/ gmail? because I don't want to use the stock email program I deleted my accounts on it, and now the contacts is all empty. something got screwed up here.
I can't wait for the day when I can replace all this amazon crap w/ a clean CM rom.
thank you!
