[Q] Well this work to unroot Rooted Gingerbread 2.3.4?? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

By my understanding you can't just flash the new gingerbread update 2.3.4 if your rooted and have s-off right?
(unless it's the rooted one which I currently have http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175536)
you need to be unrooted with s-on?.. So I'm thinking about unrooting my phone using the automated way
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=924923&page=13)
so now my question is it safe to do this with the rom I have? Because I have read forms that once you update to the new ginger bread you cant downgrade? Or that it's just a little more difficult to do right? ( I don't know if has to do anything with the rooted one I have btw) so if I unroot using that method well it root since I'm technically going to downgrade right? Since the unroot instructions says you have to flash the PD15IMG.zip (which I think it would be an older version.) So that being said can I just unroot using that method but instead of using the PD15IMG.zip they give you can I used the new gingerbreed PD15IMG.zip file SO WHEN THE PHONE BOOT UP I WOULD HAVE THE NEW GINGERBREAD UPDATE 2.3.4 well that work?!?!?!
reason for unrooting have bad chip..

this update i think is no different than the full RUU we had before, if you flash this or that RUU, you will goto stock unrooted factory mode, with just one think that may or maynot happen,....
1: for me i still have S-off, so i still do whatever i like.
2: for many they turned to S-on and now stuck with this ROM as this version 2.3.4 is not rootable at the moment.

Downgrade Problem!

I have searched and searched, tried every method, but I am offically stuck (I think) - I'm prepping a rooted Eris for return - i had previously been able to flash the 2.1 RUU to return to stock, but it now will not work - I guess somewhere along the lines of rooting/ROM flashing my bootloader has changed (it is now v1.49.000) - I can't get any RUU to work (get ERROR in RUU interface) - I have also tried flashing a P00IMG through HBOOT, but it also errors out (something is older than something else - forgot exactly) - I have tried flashing new HBOOT/Recovery Image through ADB per a JCASE post, but that will not work either - I've gotten older ROM's loaded that will allow for new OTA updates, but they ultimately will not work (signature issues i believe) -
So the question is, is there a method that will get me back to 2.1 "stock" & get rid of Amon Ra recovery?
Again, I have searched and tried every method I could find - I have updated my SDK - help anyone?
Ive seen people just send in rooted ones without any problem, so I dont know if they'll check. But if your worried, i would just flash a 2.1 rom that looks like the stock, cause i dont think they'll know the difference.
Do you have a Nandroid backup from when you first rooted?

Unfortunately I don't have it - you wanna loan me yours?
I'm only kind of kidding....
download unzipme.zip which jcase removed on xda from here http://androidmobileos.com/?p=14928 Inside theres dowgrade rom that you flash through custom recovery (which ever one you use). After that you just follow the instructions (adb parts). Works very well. If you will have any issues with adb part as far as flashing back to stock recovery and hboot than check your hboot version and make sure its s-off. If its not you can get it s-off with batery pull trick.
i had an issue like this where the ruu would say that my phone was disconnected and told me to connect it to the computer,i was on a froyo rom,i flashed a 2.1 rom and the ruu worked, just an fyi just incase this might help if you want to return to stock 2.1,once you run the ruu and sync with google you wiil receive the july update also.

Firstly, how did you root your phone? I see your join date is from '07, so you aren't a newbie that came on here in June when you got your Evo (like me.....lol). If you rooted the "old school" way using toast's method, all you have to do is flash a Sprint RUU (any Sprint RUU, as it will prompt you to the an OTA update to 2.2 even if you flash an older RUU) and your phone goes back to stock. If you rooted with Unrevoked Forever that keeps S-off, then it may be more complicated. I wouldn't be able to tell you because I've personally never used any of the Unrevoked team's stuff.
oh, sorry for lack of pre-rooting details.
yea launch phone with(at the time) 2.1, and i used that 3 button OTA simpleroot.
can i flash the sprint ruu 2.2, then use the new unrevoked?
do i need to wipe any details with ##786#?

Help with unrooting

first, yes i know how to search!
i've found out that when you want to unroot your phone you have to do it using ruu's.
how do i know wich Ruu i should use?
when i install the Ruu, is it just like installing a new rom using clockwork?
and when i've installed the Ruu how do i uninstall clockwork and all the other things that comes with the root?
i am currently using the standard 2.1 update 1 rom for wildfire (original rom)
if you plan not to do rooting and flashing anymore, just update to 2.2. Everything will get original, but you will lose the opportunity to root it again. Otherwise, flash a kinda of unroot image, which comes with unrevoked, i didn't hear about it anyway. Try yourself.
To install the RUU, Download it (It will be an EXE File), install HTC Sync on your PC, Connect your device, and, run it. You will lose Clockworkmod and all root associated apps and priveleges when you unroot it.
First check that you can root your phone.
If you already have Froyo installed on your phone then you will have the new Hboot.
If can root use the old unbranded Eclair Ruu from shipped rom's.
It's in the guide (turkeys guide i think) stickyd at the top of the page.
I also want to go back to using stock ROMs. Froyo actually. The only reason I rooted was to gain app2sd facility which was not there in Eclair.
Now that Froyo is out for wildfire spare me the unstable ROMs. I will go for the Stock one.
I have the RUU for my mobile. But When I run it from PC, I get cannot upgrade your phone. I understand this is because I am having a custom recovery (Mine is ClockworkRecovery).
Now can anyone tell how I can get the stock Froyo ?
Do I need to get the stock recovery back ? Is there a bypass for this ?
Or is there a .zip file intead of RUU.exe files for Stock Froyo ?

[Q] Need to unroot froyo 2.2

I have looked and looked but probably not in the right places... I have a rooted Evo 4G with froyo 2.2. I used unrevoked forever and know how to get the s-on back... I just would like to update the phone to the newest update and root it again. Is it still necessary to get s-on back then load the original ruu rom? I would think I just need to remove the unrevoked then update. The phone works I just want newer firmware on it... My apologies if I did not look for my response properly, but all I see is a reload the IMG file... I dont want to set back to factory... just wanted to post this question. Thank You

There is absolutely no reason to unroot. All you have to do is flash a custom stock ROM based on the newest firmware. A whole bunch are available for flashing in the Development forum.
It is much easier to leave the phone S-OFF and then either flash a rooted stock ROM or run a stock RUU. Then all you would need to do to obtain full root again (with stock ROM) would be to install a custom recovery and then flash a superuser.zip file, rather than turning the phone back S-ON and then going through a potentially complicated procedure just to reroot and possibly turn the phone back S-OFF.
Thank You guys sounds like a custom rom is the way to go... it would get rid of that IQAgent also... I'll look around for a nice looking rooted rom.

[Q] Return to stock and keep S=off?

Back when the very first version of Creamed Glacier came out, I did the whole root, s=off, and CWM think to flash it. Of course at the time it wasn't terrible stable, so I found a PD15IMG.zip down load and just reflashed stock with out manually disabling s=off or anything.
Does that mean that I still have s=off and I can just install CWM5 via the fastboot method to flash newer and more stable ICS ROMs without having to go through the process I did the first time? Reading around this forum, I'm leaning towards my answer is yes, but I want to make sure before breaking my phone or something.
Yes you do have S-OFF I believe. Boot into your bootloader and look at tbr very top and you'll see it say S-OFF or S-ON. Now if its off, I think you can flash CWM. But not sure...so root again without S-OFF. Sorry, this isn't my area of expertise.

It probably says that you are s=off but you will still want to reroot the phone if you returned to stock with pd15img. also make sure to return to froyo radio and check your android version #. If it is gingerbread then downgrade before attempting to reroot or it probably wont work and may possibly brick the phone.
