+1 to the TouchPro 2 [Saved my root] - EVO 4G General

USB port failed on my Evo so I cannot charge it and obviously if I get a replacement it will likely have 2.3.3 pre-loaded.
Welp, I look online and realize that my Touch Pro 2 shares the same battery and everything.
Free charging dock.
So anyway, anyone that is faced with this problem, if you happen to have had a Touch Pro 2 and you love root...you have a free extra battery and battery dock charger. Cheers

Don't have one of those but definitely useful information.
Life without root privileges is not a life worth living.

The guy who sold me the evo gave me a 1800 battery with the wall charger for it.... haven't bothered to use it.

Not if the replacement Evo is preloaded with 2.3.3.....which is very likely and not worth the risk when I have this solution that I like better.
Honestly, I will probably never plug my Evo in again, and that includes when root is achieved and I get my replacement.

yes, i use my sprint hero to charge my evo batteries. i have 5 or so batteries i swap back and forth with two extended and 2 or 3 stock. when i work 16 hour days i always have a few spare batteries with me. some days i'll put in 10 hours screen-on time.

I took mines to the sprint store and got a new evo on the spot, no questions asked.
Just waiting for root now...
2.3 is probably the last update the evo will see, just like the hero when it got 2.1 so if they find root it will be permanent.

Bah, If I were a total douche I would wreck my evo and walked into a sprint store begging for a free nexus.

Please, Please, Please make a thread about how you want to purposely brick your moment so you can make the switch.
I love love love! watching the brick police come in and throw hissy fit temper tantrums claiming you're ruining modern society by making false phone insurance claims.

Well, if you decide to break it, please think up something creative and video it for us to see. Do something cool like the guy who got angry at his lawn mower and shot it in public with a shotgun. Please
I just my hero in February and I want to get the Evo. My phone is prestine I have the invisible shield on it and the otter box shield on it and its rooted also running the 2.08 Damagecontrol Rom. What would be a good price to sale it for. I was offered 85.00. I feel that's to low.

My main problem with the moment is this: Radom Airplane mode and EVDO lockups for no apparent reason. Only way to fix is to reboot the phone. Other than that the thing ways a freakin ton. I like the keyboard and the AMOLED screen though. Also, I miss you guys and installing a new ROM or theme every day

(rant)this is why I posted a straight trade for my hero from that buggy ass hardware in the moment...some sucker took the bait and did a trade for that pos..
been loving my hero ever since..things to hate about the moment..no matter what rooted rom you use that phone always locks up into airplane mode or random reboots..samsung should be ashamed of that phone they put the android name on
if you blow the phone up or anything make sure you youtube it and post a link..my buddy is going to make a video of what a moment looks like after getting blown up by a 50 caliber round by his service spier riffle at 300 meters....it will be an epic video lol.well when he gets back state side...almost makes me want to buy another moment just to annihilate one...that phone pissed me off so bad...(/end rant)

Hell yes it does
The Moment really sucks. Check the Sprint community forums at their official website, there's a known issue with the Moment experiencing fake-airplane/CDMA modem lock ups. The only way to get the connection back when it happens is to shut the phone down and turn it back on. I went through six Moments. The last time I swapped it, I just hung out at the bookstore next door until the data connection would break, then take it back over there so they could vainly try to fix it, then replace it with another Moment; rinse and repeat until they finally agreed to give me a Hero like I asked when I first walked into the store. When I went in last time, they said that if I had came in in May, and not June (the third in this case), they could've swapped it then with the hero (said something about swapping for a different device if there are so many swaps within a 6 month period). PITFA.
Anyway, I have my Hero now, and it works wonderfully, and has way better battery life than the moment. -AND- multitouch works on the Hero, which it won't on the Moment, even with the 2.1 update... I'm never buying Samsung ever again.
yeah you should definitely just go back to the Hero

Another Battery Life Thread (This one's ridiculous)

Okay, so Blah, Blah, everyone posts about their terrible battery life.
Nobody's got a thing on me. I don't think ANYBODY has battery life as bad as mine. I must be doing SOMETHING wrong...
EDIT: I should note that this started from 98% and not 100%, but still...
EDIT2:
What was running:
I played Angry Birds for 15 minutes
I think TweetDeck may have been running.
I quit LauncherPro and was using stock home so as to close the widgets.
I ended most of the unnecessary running services
Everything was off (Except... you know... receiving phone calls, etc.)
I don't have 3G

Hell, why give back your old battery? (even if it's ****ty, it can still be used as a last ditch backup). Just call them-- it takes 5 minutes.
is the battery sold in amazon safe to used? why is it only $15 while in the t-mobile it's freaking $50?! i do want to say to t-mobile that i want a replacement but i am using it for 2 months now.
Search the forums for "Critical SyncManager Bug in JI6". Restarting the syncmanager caused me to go from 5-6 hrs to 30-36 hrs of battery life.
one more suggestion is try cleaning the contact points on your battery and phone. That may help.. it can't hurt....
i was driving earlier today and about once every 5 minute I would turn maps on and let the gps lock in to make sure I was going to right way. the rest of the time screen off, resting in my lap plugged into the charger. current widget reported about 300ma charging current, which sounds about right. in 20 minutes my battery went from 63% to 61% while plugged in

[Q] HTC Desire Z / G2 Battery

I just purchased a HTC Desire Z - Tmobile HD2 version of this phone. It came w/ out a battery. I bought a 50 dollar battery from tmobile but i found one else where that was WAY cheaper. The one i found cheaper is a 1750mah 3.7v , the one from tmobile that is OEM for the phone is a 3.7v 1300mah battery. The 1750 is thicker but fits fine.
My question is, does running a 3rd party battery (although this one is from a good brand at best buy mobile, but not oem) will it damage my phone. This phone is too nice to risk, so i thought i'd ask first.
If not im gonna return the tmobile battery.
Thanks!
Wtf? it came without battery? Have u checked with Htc or the place where u bought it if they maybe made a mistake? all phones comes with battery and i have never heard anyone that got a new phone without battery :S
Hmmm, suspect much?
I also find it hard to believe it should come without a battery. Is there a "whats included in the box" list on the side of the box?

okay, i have a friend, had a g2 - it went kaput within the first 2 days, tmobile sent him a new one, which comes without the battery. He was a tard and sent the whole phone battery and back back with the phone. so when he got the new g2 it had no back or battery, so he sold it to me and got a iphone 4.
but thanks for the useless nonsense of random posts all, i found a thread on battery that does not answer my questions but if i ask there im sure ill get a better response from them.
i guess knowing the backstory of how my phone didn't come with my phone is required to answer a technical questions, LOL.

Sorry pal, i was just making sure you hadn't been scammed by a store as I was under the impression that it was bought brand new.
I've only used a generic/cheap battery in one of my old Nokias as a spare, it was the same spec as the original, and with a full charge lasted just as long as the original Nokia one. However the full charging capacity did start to deteriorate after 12 months or so, after 18 months I binned it. Can't complain for £7.50.
Let us know how you get on, I think a lot of people would be interested to know how much time you get out of it.

Leaving EVO, hello ns4g

So after all this time using an EVO since ship date, Sprint and HTC blew it with this gb update. Getting a comparable device without losing my upgrade, was a huge plus for me to move on to this.
It wasn't the of root. It was the lack of testing, and caring about the users of this phone, the 30 second update that went on while I slept, the 2 replacements that randomly revolted every 3+hrs just everything I hope the ns4g is better.
Must say, its been a great run.
My wife has had 2 replacement evos in the past month due to broken usb port. I wish at this point they'd just offer a nexus
My camera is being retarded and after 2 or 3 pics my phone reboots. I'm hoping sprint will offer me a ns4g.

Are you using a stock Evo? If so, call and ask if they'll upgrade you. I don't think they're reading this and cross-referencing your username to your account.
When you call for a replacement, state that you are not physically able to make it to a sprint repair center: wheelchair bound, etc, whatever your excuse may be, as wrong as that seems, it's the only way to get them to MAIL the replacement to you, express that you've had the device replaced 1+ times, and that you spoke to a manager who told you, you were eligible for a like or comparable replacement, they will offer you the evo shift, ns4g, and all the other low-end devices.
This is up to you form here on.

They are so lame to make us go into the stores anyway. It's very annoying. however on my side... I've been lucky. never once have had an issue. my last phone I even changed out my own touch screen. :-D then when I got my evo. I got a hammer and killed my last phone. hahahha
haha, I wish. I've had nothing but issues out of my evo
I got some pretty bad light leaks under the home, back, and search buttons to where it looks like the metal around the bottom of the phone is white. I have heard you can get a replacement for light leakage but does or would this qualify?
who cares what this says anyways
sounds like some here have the new phone itch.. after the new phones come out all kinds of defects are found on our current phones..
ha ha.. I suffer from it..
Just tell them your phone randomly reboots lol.
Good luck with the Nexus. I have had two and sold them both. (traaded in my OG Evo.) The Nexus phones have all kinds of issues, including miserable battery life, bad radios causing dropped calls, taking 6 hours to charge the battery, flimsy plastic construction, etc.
I ended up with an Evo 3D, and so far, so good. It's nice to have a fast phone with a large screen, but somewhat more narrow than the original Evo.
Go to the Sprint site and see the Nexus user reviews vs. either of the Evos. It's no contest.
Good luck.
Thanks, and I always have 2 more evo's lol.

I do want a different phone since I can't root this one and I just got it like 3-4 weeks ago. So not so much a new phone just one that isn't locked. iPhone 4 sold , coming to SII

Hi Guys!
It's been a while since I been in the Andriod loop (last time was when I was dealing with X10a ; which was sold to a friend of a mine, whom damaged the USB slot, frying the entire MB, which is replaced and he is using it...)
Anyways, I got rid of my iPhone 4 for my cousin, who needed 4.3.3 jailbroken, with installous, cydia tweaks, etc. He is happy with it!
I am in the market for a new phone, I decided to check back on the Android world, and SII got my attention.
First of all, as I am in GTA (Toronto-Canada), where can I buy an unlocked, unbranded Galaxy SII phone? I have a hard time trusting kijiji or craiglist, etc.
Secondly, if the first option above is not available, can I buy the Bell Canada version, and have it unlocked and debranded? If so, where would I start in terms of debranding back to stock firmware & unlocking methods?
Third, I know an LTE version (1.5 Ghz processor upgrade, 4.5" screen, etc.) is coming out, probably end of the year to the beginning of the next year, should I just hold off? I don't mind buying the SII now, and get the LTE later.
Thanks.
You Can try Negrielectronics.com. They sell both the white and black model.
Great ... happy to know that
Karth,
From what I can determine, unlocking this phone is easy as pie.
There is an app for it.
You will pay a premium for an unlocked phone when it is apparently very easy.
Get it from Bell, best buy, Costco, wherever, and do the dirty work yourself.
Oh and Welcome Back!!! Android loves you, apple does not know you from a hole in the wall
Good decision. I recently sold my iphone4 and traded up to a galaxy s2 which is without doubt the better of the two.

The SGS2 is the best phone I have ever used. I actually enjoy surfing the web on it better than my home desktop. It's just as smooth on the web as the iphone 4 and with full flash running in the background! The batt life on the iphone 4 was the only thing keeping me with it until the SGS2 which has simular batt life as the iphone 4. It really is an amazing piece of hardware!

The iPhone 4 is known to have a better battery life than the Galaxy SII. However, that doesn't make it any where near close to as outstanding as the Galaxy.
@op
To Unlock: Download Odin3 v1.85 from here.
Then download this kernel from here.
-unzip the above file and it will unzip itself to CF-Root-SGS2_ZS_OZS_KG2-v4.1-CWM4.tar (TAR File)
-Fire up ODIN and under 'PDA' browse to the above mentioned .tar file.
-Place your phone on download mode (either USB jig, or boot it up while holding vol down+home+power)
-once in download mode, plug in to the computer.
-everything should be default settings in ODIN,butmake sure repartition and flashlock IS NOT ticked.
-click start
Now you're rooted and can proceed to unlock the phone and/or flash a custom rom.
PS: If your wanna buy the phone outright, try omegacell(dot)com; they're based in Canada (Edmonton).
May I just say welcome to the best phone money can buy! If you're comfortable with jailbreak then i wouldn't worry about unbranded phone. You can just flash a custom rom. And I'm pretty sure I saw an unlocking thread in the development section.

The instructions in post #8 refer to rooting, not unlocking.
For unlocking (once rooted) use this app...
https://market.android.com/details?id=eu.chainfire.sgs2simunlockcode&feature=search_result
I have no real need (at the minute) to unlock my phone, but I tried that and it gave me an unlock code in 5-10 minutes which worked first time.

for the sgs2, i just need to invest some money to buy a stand alone charger and a spare battery, my phone will never need to be plug to a charger. i can use it 24/7.
example, using battery A, while battery B is fully charged and standing by.
browse the web & play HD games for 5 hours, battery A depleted,
swap battery B and let battery A charge. continue playing game using battery B.
friends iphone4, browse the web & play HD games for 5 hours,
battery depleted, hook ip4 to charger and wait 2 hours for it to charge,
stare at me jealousy while i continue playing with my phone.
;-) the jealous stare is priceless!

There's something wrong with your sgs2 then. When I had the iphone4 it barely made it to the evening.
Have maybe a 250% increase in battery life with the SGS2

It's all about the apps you have running. I recently did a format and started from scratch and my SGS2 lasts alot longer. Same for the iPhone. I had to re-install all my apps one by one to see what the rouge app was. I admit, Android has more apps that can put strain on phone and possibly cripple batt life but lets face it, there is soooooo much more running in the background on android and for the batt life I am getting with my SGS2 is totally fine. I take mine off the charger around 7am. At around 10pm I'm at around 30%. That's good enough for me!

The iPhone 4 is known to have a better battery life than the Galaxy SII.

When did that happened?
I know 11 people with iphone4 (I jailbraked them all)
And everyone complained about the battery and reception.
My uncle got an sgs2 after I recommended it and he freaking loves it. Battery, reception and all

I have the Nexus S which replaced my iPhone 4, but waiting for the release of the G S II at Best Buy. I want to be able to root it and install a custom ROM. You mentioined that post 8 will root the G S II, and wanted to know if after rooting can you use the built in Wi-Fi tether? I use it on the Nexus S after rooting it.

Yes it is included like it was on my unlocked Nexus S but unless I rooted I couldn't use the built tether unless I payed the extra $25.00 a month. I don't use it enough to pay the extra. So just wantednto know if anyone is using the built in tether on their G S II? And if they had to root it to use the tether without having to pay the extra? Thanks

Thanks.

If you are still looking for a phone check out Pacific mall there area bunch of stores that will sell the international version of the phone or the bell of contract.
I heard the Rogers version is coming out at the end of the month. Big issue I see with lte version is that the data plans aren't changing the largest data plan on Rogers is 6 gigs and on lte you will go through that in no time.

That's another thing i didn't know about the iPhone 4, you seriously cannot get a replaceable battery that is madness what happens if the battery fails what do they do then, then again you'd expect nothing less from Apple, i hear in order to change your ringtone you have to plug the phone via USB into your laptop/PC, that again is tragic, you cant change wallpapers either and no such thing as widgets.
Tell you what Apple would be lost only for their marketing team, they are the real reason why they sell so many iPhones with their aggressive marketing policy and people like sheep go out and purchase in their droves.
iPhone = fail.
i loved my iphone 4 to death and i did not thought they would be a better phone out there. battery life i charged it over night and still had to charge it again by the end of the day again. anyway with my galaxy s2 i can go on two days with out charging and that is having the wifi on all the time and making calls and etc..so my thing is galaxy s2 is a step up in class and the only phone that is going to beat it will be the s3...only think that would sway me back to iphone is the apps but again i love android and with the new update im sure the devs on here will cook up something special up
