I am not a noob, in fact I am actually a software developer, just not for Android devices so all of this is not a level playing field. My end goal is to get CM7 on my Samsung Fascinate (I500). But, I have never been able to boot into Clockwork Recovery despite the numerous attempts and methods to install it. It always has booted the default Samsung Recovery Utils. First I tried installing it thru the app (and yes it is rooted, Superuser agrees). Finally, I think Odin did me in for the final time, I tried installing CWMRecovery.tar using Odin and now my phone is in an infinite loop, always loading the Samsung Recovery Utils, can't get back to the OS. I read the "Unbrick my fascinate" guide, no luck there. How can I just get this thing working?
Question: when you used odin, did you put the cwmall.tar in PDA or PHONE?
I put it in PDA as the guide said. I do have an new update tho, after trying a couple more of the tars on the guide I was able to get it back up and working however still unable to get into Clockwork Recovery. Everytime I try booting into it, it has an error "failed to verify whole-file signature" and "signature verification failed". Would you know why this isn't booting into Clockwork?

I think you should odin a stock package first. Read the bottom half on going back to stock.

You have the 3e recovery which requires a signature verification. You need to find the modified 3e recovery package on here that didn't require signature verification. That or find a way to downgrade to 2.1 and then install cwm

My suggestion...Odin eb01 with the atlas 2.2 pit file and repartition checked...run Odin and reboot completely after Odin says pass...pull battery hook back up to Odin cwm3-30 fix all after Odin says pass immediately three finger bout into recovery and flash cm7, it contains a kernel which will make recovery stick and you should be good from there.. I'll shoot ya some links for reference.
3-30 fix all recovery

or you could Odin the power washed rom which has the CWM already to go on it and then flash the CM7 rom via the CWM
I followed this guide http://www.xoomforums.com/forum/non...sion/7918-updating-3-2-3-0-1-non-us-user.html to turn my UK Xoom (wifi) into a US GED so I could get the OTA ICS.
I unlocked the bootloader, flashed the boot.img but when I try to flash the system.img, it will not do it. It seems to time out and I get an error. I can flash every .img (recovery etc) except the system.img.
I have re-downloaded in case it was corrupt, but that didn't help. I have tried flashing it back to the UK version but once again it will not flash the system.img.
Now it won't boot, it sticks on the "dual core" screen.
I really cannot work out what is problem. It is like the system is still locked.
Is it possible to try and get round it by installing CWM via fastboot and then flashing a rom from recovery?
If so, will I need a UK custom ROM?
I have installed CWM and installed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400958
I had CWM 6.0.3.3 on my S4 T-Mobile. However, I was unable to flashed my compiled build of CM 10.1. I kept getting the Status Error 7 message. I tried to install with TWRP and would not flash it either. I tried to flash CMW 6.0.3.5 with my flashable tar file and it failed.
Now when I turn my phone on, I just get the Yellow Triangle saying "Firmware upgrade encountered a issue"
I am downloading the factor ROM and going to try to flash that.. Will that fix my problem with my phone booting?
PS: Any help with the Status 7 error would be of great help as well..
Thanks!
I resolved the issue with it not flashing.. I just kept flashing WITHOUT closing ODIN and it successfully flashed!
I have a Nexus 4 (8GB version), unrooted. I had 5.1.1 running on it, which was flashed manually as the OTA update failed. After having some stability issues I decided to perform a "clean" flash to "start from scratch". So I tryed flashing 5.1.1 and... It ended up in a bootloop (boot animation going on for ever). So I tryed to flash other versions, but everything above 4.4.2 is not working. I first flashed with the "flash-all" scripts (under Window 7 and under Linux), and now am using the "SkipSoft Android Toolkit". So this is how it looks like:
-4.2.2 flash successfull.
-4.3 flash successfull. The phone detects OTA update to 4.4, but the update fails - I get android lying on its back with a red explanation mark. After that, the phone reboots to 4.2.2.
-4.4 flash successfull. The phone detects OTA update to 4.4.2, but the download fails.
-4.4.2 flash successfull. The phone detects OTA update to 4.4.3, but the update fails - I get android lying on its back with a red explanation mark. After that, the phone reboots to 4.4.2.
-Flashing to 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 fails as the phone does not pass the "Google"-sign (before the boot animation).
-Flashing to 5.x fails as the phone end up in a bootloop. I tryed to wipe system/cache after installing, but it does not help.
Sideload of OTAs fails with "Status 7" error, which is strange because I flash stock ROMs. So everything higher then 4.4.2 cannot be installed.
Is there a way to fix this? Getting OTAs to work (even by sideload) would be a start. Or is it a hardware problem and the phone is hopeless?
I hope someone has an answer or at least a direction to dig into.
Thanks
Pavel
Backstory:
At&t and saw the update today. Went through the processing of putting stock recovery and unrooting for the OTA. OTA was installed successfully and I was able to put the newer version of TWRP. However, I tried to root and I flashed the SU zip from lollipop hoping it would work. It got stuck on the boot logo after that. I did a factory wipe as well. In my internal storage now, theres literally nothing except for a folder called "0" and "TWRP."
I've been trying to flash a stock rom to restart this process again but every time I try to flash a rom, it says
"Checking for MD5 file...
Skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found"
Installation fails after that. I'm at a loss right now and i'm not sure what to do...
Somehow after the 100th time or so, the stock recovery tool worked when I was in fastboot. Now I just need to find the modem for wifi to work again...
