Stuck in infinite loop into Samsung Recovery - Fascinate General

I am not a noob, in fact I am actually a software developer, just not for Android devices so all of this is not a level playing field. My end goal is to get CM7 on my Samsung Fascinate (I500). But, I have never been able to boot into Clockwork Recovery despite the numerous attempts and methods to install it. It always has booted the default Samsung Recovery Utils. First I tried installing it thru the app (and yes it is rooted, Superuser agrees). Finally, I think Odin did me in for the final time, I tried installing CWMRecovery.tar using Odin and now my phone is in an infinite loop, always loading the Samsung Recovery Utils, can't get back to the OS. I read the "Unbrick my fascinate" guide, no luck there. How can I just get this thing working?

Question: when you used odin, did you put the cwmall.tar in PDA or PHONE?

I put it in PDA as the guide said. I do have an new update tho, after trying a couple more of the tars on the guide I was able to get it back up and working however still unable to get into Clockwork Recovery. Everytime I try booting into it, it has an error "failed to verify whole-file signature" and "signature verification failed". Would you know why this isn't booting into Clockwork?

I think you should odin a stock package first. Read the bottom half on going back to stock.

You have the 3e recovery which requires a signature verification. You need to find the modified 3e recovery package on here that didn't require signature verification. That or find a way to downgrade to 2.1 and then install cwm

My suggestion...Odin eb01 with the atlas 2.2 pit file and repartition checked...run Odin and reboot completely after Odin says pass...pull battery hook back up to Odin cwm3-30 fix all after Odin says pass immediately three finger bout into recovery and flash cm7, it contains a kernel which will make recovery stick and you should be good from there.. I'll shoot ya some links for reference.
3-30 fix all recovery

or you could Odin the power washed rom which has the CWM already to go on it and then flash the CM7 rom via the CWM

DaCrap! I cannot get into CWMOD recovery for anything in the world!!

Flashed back to stock 2.1 and can't get into CWMOD recovery despite the fact that I'm rooted. I'm getting so damn frustrated. Can anyone help me?
I get this error on reinstall packages that says it failed (bad)
What's up?
First, I couldn't get out of 3e stock after manually replacing the update.zip..... Now I can't get out of 2e stock for the same reason.
Why does it seem like I'm the only person here who can't make this work?? I've read everything on the Bible thread. Tried every tip, and I just can't get out of the stock recovery and into CWMOD recovery, so I'm about to give up and just chuck the idea of custom ROMs.
Please, somebody.... give me a ray of hope here. I've been struggling with the stupid recovery issue since day one.
Try Odin back to stock again...then download and install ROM Manager...flash ClockworkMod Recovery...reboot into recovery...hit reinstall packages if sent to stock recovery.....simple as that
Sent from my XDA app cuz I'm stalking your mom....
How did you flash back to recovery, tell us what you did...
I would odin to stock froyo + root, d/load rm and flash cwr like ^ stated.
did you Flash Clockwork again? To the latest?

CWMRecovery issue with update.zip

I have downloaded ROM Manager and flashed CWMRecovery_DJ05_DL09.tar.md5 via Odin to my phone. When I try to apply the update.zip I get stuck with white triangle and orange exclamation point.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Did you flashed via PDA in ODIN?
Then, did you install the ClockWork Recover mod via ROM Manager?
Yes, I flashed via PDA in ODIN.
As far as "install" CWR in ROM Manager .. not sure. I Flashed CMR successfully and granted SuperUser permission.
Is there more?
BTW .. thanks!

OK. Try this.. put the update.zip found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913470 into the root of your SD card.
Use in ROM Manager select "Boot into Recovery"..
By the way, you don't apply the update.zip when you use Boot Into Recovery from ROM Manager. It does that automatically already.
If you see the green recovery, then you are in CWMR.
You only apply the update.zip if you are in the stock recover (BLUE)...
Thank you.
I did as you said and put the update.zip file on my sd card.
I used ROM Manager and Booted into Recovery. It automatically put me into stock recovery (blue) and gave me the same error. I selected apply update.zip and same error. I guess I am just not meant to have it.

Hmmm.. What Build version are you running? DH12? DL05? DL09? DL30?
Did you make sure you could open the the .tar file you flashed in ODIN? What about the .zip? Make sure you can open both of them via 7zip, to verify that you are not corrept.
Try flashing the .tar file again in ODIN, via PDA (of course)..
dl09 .. Really all I want to do is flash the dl30 .. Fml

I keep getting the same error but I have not seen a good answer yet. I tried to follow the guide by Syn Ack but I can not get past step 2. I get the error E: failed to verify whole-file signature...I have clockworkmod, I ran "Flash ClockWork Recovery" and choose the Fascinate. I also tried "Apply sdcard:update.zip" when I got the E:failed error. What am I missing? I read everything above. I am on DL09, rooted.
Turns out all the .tar files on this site are corrupt .. I found cwmrecovery.tar elsewhere and flashed that and it worked fine.

Did you flash the .tar file with ODIN via PDA??
yes, I reflashed odin by pulling the battery, holding down volume button and plugging in usb cable. Everything worked fine after that.

[Q] Mobile Odin Pro Update to ICS botched...

I was on 2.3.6 LC2 rooted. Root was validated by copying a file to the /system partition.
I downloaded CF's CF-Root-SGN_XX_OXA_LPY-v5.3-CWM5.zip and followed Dr Ketan's instruction to use Mobile Odin Pro to flash kernel with the zImage
System rebooted then the Galaxy Note logo for a second, then black screen for the past 30 minutes, phone is hot
Vol down, home, power but KIES doesn't see the phone
Luckily I had CWM installed and it seems to work but now I am lacking the famous .zip file
Where can I find it, or what should I do??
(I can't believe that I'm the one sending the "Please help just bricked my phone" message...)
You flashed an ics kernel on a gb rom..... they do not fit. You better go into download mode' , reflash original gb through Odin desktop Root it, download mobile Odin and the whole rom not just the ics kernel. Flash through mobile odin and done. Or you can of course now flash the cf root thingy...
You really should not be messing with your phone without reading how to first.

As an update, I tried to "install zip from sdcard" on CWM pointing to CF-Root-SGN_XX_OXA_LPY-v5.3-CWM5.zip and I get the error message "Cant' open... (bad) Installation aborted"
What gives?

Thanks bad77, I see what I did wrong...
Back to starting from scratch then.
No problem, android is fun to mess with, but totally user unfriendly to mess with. Once you know what your doing and get the hang of it enjoy. But be careful you can botch it fairly quick ;-)

[Q] Galaxy S4 Can't Enter Recovery After Root On MF3

My phone is currently working, but when I try to enter recovery mode, I get a error saying something along the lines of, "couldn't do a normal boot" and it enters Odin mode. Odin, however, fails saying "write protection operation failed". I think is what caused it is me trying to unlock the bootloader using Goo.Im. I can boot up normally and I have root access. Is their any way to fix this problem? I've tried doing a factory reset in settings and it took me to the couldn't do a normal boot screen. Thank you so much.

You need to read up on MF3. There are like 100 threads already with people trying/asking the same thing.
You cannot install a custom recovery on MF3 firmware. You can only root. Stop trying or you might brick your phone.
If you tried to install a custom recovery, then you probably destroyed your stock recovery...so you're stuck with that for now because there is no way to ODIN to stock and fix everything.
I have no stock recovery. You are right. So once an ODIN MF3 firmware is released, I will be able to ODIN back with a functional recovery? Will I even be able to ODIN back with no recovery installed? Thanks for the quick response.

You cannot Odin mf3 back as of today. However, people have been getting great luck flashing mf3 back to stock at Best Buy's Samsung Kiosk. You could read up more in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2435043
Good luck :good:

Hey I had the same thing happen, precisely. I was able to restore stock recovery using my wife's phone and a tool to "backup" her recovery. I posted it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47307083#post47307083
and I also included the file from her phone to restore a functional stock recovery.
Not true.i don't keep links handy cause my phone is my computer but there is an Odin package in our forum .as far as your file you posted,I can't see it

Failed To Verify Whole-File Signature Error (Stock ROM)

My phone recently soft bricked. TouchWiz became unresponsive and then I restarted my phone using the power button.
My phone then proceeds into a bootloop, which I presume is a soft bricked based from reading around.
What I did was downloaded Odin 3.09 then downloaded my stock ROM from sam mobile. After the copying files it went to recovery boot, and then gave me that error when updating.
I also tried flashing stock ROMs that were dated before the month I purchased my phone. No luck
I tried flashing CM 11. CF auto root, and then CWM, CM 11 then GAPPS, when I rebooted it went directly to Download Mode and it said "Could not do normal boot" at the top.
Need help on this please. I don't have any alternate phones. :/
Much appreciated.
bump
