[Q]Frozen apps, lost Root, can I apply the official GB OTA? - Atrix 4G General

Hi I've frozen some apps using Ti Backup and Have since lost Root when going to 1.8.3, is it possible to run the Official Gingerbread update without having to unfreeze the apps I froze?
Thanks

When upgrading. Moto looks for all the apps and bloat etc. If its not there set up will fail.

New Update Questions

I have the stock OTA 2.2 rom, am rooted using z4root, have installed all the bloatware, and have installed 928droid's black glass theme. If I install the new OTA update what is it going to do to my phone? Lose root, would I be able to reroot? Lose theme? Any info would be great, thanks.

yes you will lose root and theme. you can use z4 root to reroot and then just use clockwork to install theme again
Will I need to reinstall all the bloatware first or do I not need them installed to update?

I believe you do. I'm on the leak

I didn't have the bloatware backed up, so I used 928droid,s Back To Stock Deodexed to revert back to stock and get the bloatware back. Now I download the update and try to install, the phone resets and shows the little droid with a box like it is updating, but then gives an exclamation mark in a triangle and boots up saying update failed. How do I fix this and get the OTA 2.2.1 update?

Need help!

I have a droid 2 non global. I had all ota updates and now i cant root my phone. I have tried everything, even the droid 3 root and nothing. Anyone else having this issue since the latest update? I am stuck and need this bloatware gone. And i want a good ROM. Please help..

If you installed the most recent update without using Voodoo RootKeeper to back up your root, you're up the creek without a paddle because the newest update breaks root and changes the bootloader so you can't SBF.

Thanks. That explains it!

Factory reset being rooted with JB

Hi,
I've a TF300 WW that I rooted using debugfs while still on ICS. Used voodoo OTA rootkeeper to regain root after the JB update, which worked fine. I haven't installed CWM recovery on it. Now I want to do a complete wipe to try and speed this thing up, since it's still slow as hell IMO. Web browsing is painful...
Is there a way to wipe it without losing root?

My root stuck after a factory reset on ics. Don't see why that would be different on JB.

It's different because jb updated folder permissions which allowed the exploit to work on ICS. There is a chance you will lose root if you wipe on jb. You can get it back, but for now, the only means to get it back involves unlocking the bootloader.

Does that allow you to get updates after using that procedure though?

Updates to what exactly? If you mean updates to supersu or the su binary itself, yes, that happened with no issue.
If you mean updates to the ROM, well we will see when Asus releases another one, but I would imagine since I'm on stock, it would not be difficult.

Is your bootloader unlocked?
Has anyone tried it yet? I'm in the same situation as OP. Locked WW, but with rooted JB. Mine is running far worse than it did on ICS, so I was hoping a reset would clear up some things.
The only thing i'm using root for, is browser2ram, in order to get just a little speed out of it...
as stated above on WW with locked bootloader. bite the bullet as running slow and restored root with voodoo. I has superuser and supersu installed. supersu is my main root tool.
hope that helps

How does it work, when the reset is done.
I would think all of my apps are gone, but do I just install them from Play again? The SuperSU, and restore with voodoo ? (and are the backup kept, or sure I copy it else where before the reset?)
And, btw... did it do anything for the speed part, the reset ?
when you wipe the device it deletes all apps and data but not the actual system. as long as the su was protected with voodoo it does not get deleted. once wiped reinstall voodoo and supersu from market to restore root.
I would use titanium backup to restore all my apps to the state they were backed up. if you have any games with large obb files or big directories they can be backed up to SD card and putting them back after wipe. or just download them again.
my table is soo much better now. super smooth and working like it should have when I first got it. I had issue with flickering graphics and game crashes and so far these have all stopped I've been able to play all the games for hours that I could not even play for 2 minutes on .30

Can confirm thist works!
Did data wipe (twice) and was able to install both OTA rootkeeper and SuperSu from the market in both cases.
Actually did not need to restore root using Voodoo, just installed SuperSu and it just worked.
Titanium Backup, DroidWall... no issues.
Locked bootloader, WW, updated using dlpkgfile method.

Can I ask you a question? I'd like to confirm why some are breaking and some are not. Here are my 2 questions actually...
Do you have superuser installed? Not supersu but superuser...
if the answer is yes, next question.. where is your superuser.apk installed? I'm going to guess it's in /system/app. Could you please look in a file manager like root explorer to find out?
Thank you very much for your time.

No SuperUser. Just SuperSu. I used to have SuperUser but reading the issues regarding loosing root after the update I decided to replace it with SuperSu prior to updating. So installed SuperSu, opened and granted access by SuperUser, then uninstalled SuperUser and created new Voodoo OTA backup. Then updated.
So far I haven't had any issues with root.

Bloat files needed

Strange question... Can someone please post the apk and odex file, if there is one, for the stock Razr M Swype app? I appreciate it!!
Also if you have all the other Verizon bloat apps with their odex Files I need those please. The reason for this is the system dump that was posted last week does not work for me and I cannot update my phone with the official OTA or the official OTA leak file. Thank you so much!

I presume you want these because you're trying to update to the JB OTA and you are rooted and uninstalled somethings using TiBu. Which means now the JB OTA fails when you try to flash it. Wouldn't be easier to do the following?
SBF back to ICS
Flash the JB OTA
Re-root
Freeze the bloat (and whatever else you'd like)
This way you get a fresh install of the JB OTA. I may be wrong in my assessment of what you're trying to do here. But if I'm correct, the above steps seem like the easiest way to solve your problem.

Yes I've already tried that and it will not let me install anything. Even when the official update alerted my phone it downloaded but will not install.

Hmm. That's strange. Have you tried doing a factory data reset (settings->privacy->factory data reset)? Do this while running the stock ICS, before trying to flash the JB OTA.

I have tried everything... replacing all the system apps, factory resetting, and I cannot flash the OTA when my phone downloads it straight from Verizon or official OTA ROM when attempting from recovery. I am at a loss. Can anyone help me please?

i read that verizon user need to root their device and freeze sdm using titanium backup..why did they not simply disable the XDMservice instead?
I've just gone into my system apps and removed the apk. Worked fine for me, I haven't noticed anything else affected
