New Update Questions - Droid X General

I have the stock OTA 2.2 rom, am rooted using z4root, have installed all the bloatware, and have installed 928droid's black glass theme. If I install the new OTA update what is it going to do to my phone? Lose root, would I be able to reroot? Lose theme? Any info would be great, thanks.

yes you will lose root and theme. you can use z4 root to reroot and then just use clockwork to install theme again

Will I need to reinstall all the bloatware first or do I not need them installed to update?

I believe you do. I'm on the leak

I didn't have the bloatware backed up, so I used 928droid,s Back To Stock Deodexed to revert back to stock and get the bloatware back. Now I download the update and try to install, the phone resets and shows the little droid with a box like it is updating, but then gives an exclamation mark in a triangle and boots up saying update failed. How do I fix this and get the OTA 2.2.1 update?

Ok just got prompted for this. I'm rooted, is it safe to update and reroot? Anyone know what changed? Thanks

Just flash a ROM that's based off the current ota. Or if you want to go the stock route there is a rooted pc36img.zip floating around development that will upgrade your radios, hboot, kernel and ROM.

Oh boy!...
Just flash one of the custom ROMs that already have this update implemented. There is no need to unroot and regain root privileges.
I don't want a custom Rom. If I can upgrade and reroot that is what ill do. Just asking is it safe.

That's correct. It's the easiest way to update everything to the latest ota without losing root.

Do you have a link. I actually tried to go through with the update via OTA and it failed during install.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
If failed because you still have a custom recovery on your phone. You can only install an actual OTA if you have a stock recovery. Sorry, no link. On the xda app right now. If you still need it when I get home later I'll post it for you.

Yes please thanks. Unsure of the fixes in this update.

I rooted with Unrevoked and running the stock rom is ok to run ota update?
Why do you guys want to apply an ota after going through root? There are completely stock roms from the latest update so it'll be just like an ota except keeping root. Steelh rom I believe is one of them

No, it will not work for the same reasons that I described earlier.
Here is the link to the thread that has the rooted stock pc36img.zip. Download the file, rename it to pc36img, put it on the root of your sd card, boot into hboot and run the update once it's done loading. More detailed instructions are in the first post of that thread. You will lose all your data so make sure to back it up with Titanium or MyBackup so you can load everything back on after the update.

Doing it the way I described will ensure they are fully up to date, including radios, pri and hboot. Simply flashing a ROM won't update those. I think doing it this way will be easier for the inexperienced, with much less potential for screwing something up.
I dont know if I really wanna flash my radio though, I heard flashing a radio can really jack up your 4G.

Need help!

I have a droid 2 non global. I had all ota updates and now i cant root my phone. I have tried everything, even the droid 3 root and nothing. Anyone else having this issue since the latest update? I am stuck and need this bloatware gone. And i want a good ROM. Please help..

If you installed the most recent update without using Voodoo RootKeeper to back up your root, you're up the creek without a paddle because the newest update breaks root and changes the bootloader so you can't SBF.
Tappin' and talkin' with Tapatalk.
Thanks. That explains it!

Bloat files needed

Strange question... Can someone please post the apk and odex file, if there is one, for the stock Razr M Swype app? I appreciate it!!
Also if you have all the other Verizon bloat apps with their odex Files I need those please. The reason for this is the system dump that was posted last week does not work for me and I cannot update my phone with the official OTA or the official OTA leak file. Thank you so much!

I presume you want these because you're trying to update to the JB OTA and you are rooted and uninstalled somethings using TiBu. Which means now the JB OTA fails when you try to flash it. Wouldn't be easier to do the following?
SBF back to ICS
Flash the JB OTA
Re-root
Freeze the bloat (and whatever else you'd like)
This way you get a fresh install of the JB OTA. I may be wrong in my assessment of what you're trying to do here. But if I'm correct, the above steps seem like the easiest way to solve your problem.

Yes I've already tried that and it will not let me install anything. Even when the official update alerted my phone it downloaded but will not install.

Hmm. That's strange. Have you tried doing a factory data reset (settings->privacy->factory data reset)? Do this while running the stock ICS, before trying to flash the JB OTA.

I have tried everything... replacing all the system apps, factory resetting, and I cannot flash the OTA when my phone downloads it straight from Verizon or official OTA ROM when attempting from recovery. I am at a loss. Can anyone help me please?

Root but stock, ota updates?

I wasn't sure if its possible with the nexus 4 to root in order to have the benefits of adding features like beats mods (if that's even possible on stock) and to have root access for subtle improvements to stock, but still receive ota updates from google? Any advice or information is appreciated.

OTA Updates = Stock recovery
So I can root but not change recovery. But then I couldn't flash any mods to the stock, huh?

For OTA updates you can have root but system and kernel must be stock without any modyfication, you can update with custom recovery but you must do that manualy (download update.zip and flash via custom recovery)
OTA updates will install fine if you are just rooted and even with custom recovery.
With custom recovery the OTA update will install through the recovery.
However, you will encounter problems as soon as you change, mod, remove system files.

Help Unrooting (Rooted with motochopper)

Hi Guys,
I rooted my Samsung S4 (GT-9505) using motochopper, but since discovered some of my apps don't work with a rooted device.
I would like to unroot it back to factory settings.
What do I need to do? Is it a case of downloading an official ROM and using ODIN to flash the official bios back on?
I have reset the counter with TRIANGLE but my device status is still 'custom' and not official.
Is there a simple way of removing the root that motochopper adds or is an official ROM the only way?
Im in the UK and would like to flash to the latest Vodafone ROM and unrooted as new.
Many thanks
First of all, there's no app that would stop working because of a rooted device. Rooting just gains you administrator privileges, nothing more, nothing less. And yes, the best way to unroot and get the official status back is to download and flash an official rom through Odin.

Many thanks for your reply,
Unfortunatly your wrong there, Barclays PingIt (my bank account) knows when a phone has been rooted and displays an error page saying its breaching security and stops the app from working!! Crazy I know.
You can uninstall super su then reboot the phone.
You can get instructions from the Exynos Abuse thread by chainfire. It's at the bottom.

Hello there
I found that flixster wouldn't stream ultraviolet movies with root. I did find that using voodoo ota root keeper from play store helps that. Click on temp unroot, then when you've finished using that app that doesn't allow root, restore root. Unsure that this will work for you, but no harm in trying.

I used this guide and it worked quite well. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265477
