I read somewhere that 3.2 will come in Q3/Q4 for A501, and it will skip 3.1.

Skip 3.1? I'm running official OTA 3.1 ...
And only for a501? guess a500 will have it too... right?

No doubt you're running 3.1 on your A500 As said, A501 will skip 3.1 and go straight to 3.2 in Q3/Q4. I read it here in the XDA A500 forums.
I also assume that 3.2 will come for both A500 and A501 at about the same time, but that's just my speculation.

Don't get too excited. 3.2 is mainly about making Honeycomb 7" tablet friendly. This has been doing the rounds on XDA-Developers for months.

Most if not all downloaded apps already read from the external sd card perfectly fine. Many video and music players allow you to select your source file or source folder.
For example, in my case...doubletwist, mixzing, moboplayer etc. all play and find stuff on the external SD.
What 3.2 does is allow ALL apps to read from the external sd card as it will do a system sync of the SD card, which older versions of Android do already. The problem apps are actually the ones supplied with Honeycomb, ironically, which do not allow the user to select a source and automatically check ONLY the internal storage. So, to summarize, this check will now be run on both the internal AND external storage so you can see any and all media attached to the tablet.

Select is probably power button. Back should be in the cwm menu.
My guess is up and down volume to navigate and lock button to select, should only need those.

After much reading, and following CM, I think that Honeycomb and Gingerbread are almost the same. I think Gingerbread was modified, and the Shell was modified to give us that Honeycomb look.
I think that CM7 would be just as good on Xoom as Honeycomb, if we can convince the market to supply us the Tablet apps.
I'm not so sure... we know that at some point Google branched, likely closer to 2.2 than 2.3 for honeycomb. you'll find 2.1 and 2.2 elements in it that don't exist in gingerbread... but that doesn't mean I'm any more right than you. I was really surprised to see the base 2.2 indeterminate (progress bar swirl) in it for example.
I've run Gingerbread on my gTab and keep going back to an optimized version of the 2.2 front-end it shipped with.
I'm hard pressed at this point to name one or the other a victor. If there was a truly tablet optimized version of GB out there I'd consider trying it again, but they all still have too much of a hacked feel to them... I don't mean that as a knock against the devs working hard on them... just my own observation. I'm sure in time they'll clean up nicely... as will honeycomb.
The recovery will be up shortly. In the mean time, i recommend you back up your /data/media folder to your computer. The way things have turned out. Android will have to treat your external sd card as the real sd card. In other words, android will no longer use your internal memory for things like camera. your internal memory will just be storage space. But, isn't this the way it's supposed to be? Also, this should enable Mass Storage. You will also have to flash a new updated kernel which will also be up soon.
I'll patiently wait for both. Does the external SD card have to be mounted for us to go through the procedure? I'll just pull it out prior to the upgrade if that's an option.

64GB Micro SD-Cards out!

I'm sure it'll be expensive as hell when it first arrives, but KingMax is releasing a 64GB Micro SD-Card.
There shouldn't be any compatibility issues, since I'd be formatting that as ext4 for use in my Xoom anyway.
Thought the max for compatibility was 32GB.

Pretty sure that's just a filesystem issue with FAT; since I'll be formatting as ext4 that won't be an issue unless the kernel itself can't issue the block commands, and that's something that's readily fixed.

IOW, oh, I'm sure we'll think of something!
Hmmm... I am not sure the stability of handling 64GB since it was stated to support up to 32 GB.
I have a dell streak 7 which say supporting it up to 32GB, but my system got unstable whenver I got my SDCard in for a while. (only for a while, not immediately it will be unstable).
It restarts randomly and dead on sleep when I have the SDCard on. I tried to go back to stock on roms and it still happened until I gave up and took out the sdcard.
Based on this experience, I would rather think Android system's capability of handling large external SDCard is not perfect/stable. I may just hold a cautious but certainly happy view on this news =)

... and as a kernel dev, I think you just had a crap SD-Card
The device should handle any card regardless of size really, even without ext4 (the volume limit of FAT is something like 2Tb).
I read somewhere that Android didn't support ext4 on SD card without a custom kernel, is this correct? Seems odd considering the kernel must have ext4 support to read/write to the internal filesystems.
32 GB is usually mentioned by any device because that's the largest size that was actually tested with. Once they validate that 64 GB cards work (which they probably will), they will probably update the official specs.
Just a validation thing.

Yeah, there's probably a misunderstanding somewhere in what was written or read. For all intents and purposes, our internal storage (which has two filesystems on ext) is not much more electrically than a soldered-in SD-Card.

Nice quotes. I'm just curious, no need to flame. (96gb wouldn't do much for me; too much for basic stuff, but too little to hold everything. It would be a storage shuffling nightmare for me. I'm curious how people use their tablets).

Looking for devs to help port Xoom 3.1 ROM

Hi guys,
So I have had some recent success doing a semi-port of the Xoom's ROM to the A500. I know most of you are already thinking why bother when PRIMEE is working, but I prefer the Xoom's ROM because it's the closest thing to running stock Honeycomb. Most things are working except for WiFi and misc.
I'm quite short on time and would like to find some other devs to help fix up parts that aren't working.
Please reply to this thread if you can help out.
Thanks!
Just to reiterate that this is a very hackish Honeycomb 3.1 build. If you want something useable, I suggest you check out PRIMEE.

*Updated* Video recording and playback is now working. Will upload a video later for proof.

*Updated* Just tested 1080p video and it works great.
Here's the link to the partition images for you to try out:

By the way, while you're at it, be sure to check out this ROM's 1080p capabilities with these videos -

Since there's no microSD mounting yet, just push the videos to /sdcard/ to see the video player in action.
sound great (Y)
Does the xoom have different wifi hardware?
Not that I can tell...the odd thing is that the kernel module loads fine. It just isn't scanning.
I can upload what I've done so far if you guys want to have a poke at it....
Please download links, so we can help to find a fix
Cool, I can upload my backup boot.img and system.img for anyone to try. I don't really have much time to make an update.zip....how does that sound?
This is pretty exciting. Good luck guys.

Currently not having WiFi is the most pressing issue. Other things that need to be done including HDMI output and SDCARD mounting (I'm getting help from the Xoom guys for this). I also believe that GPS is not working.
P.S. I'm uploading the system and boot images now. Should be done in an hour's time. I'll post up the link when it's done.

I agree, if given the choice I'd probably start to swing towards a Xoom ROM due to it being closer to stock.
Besides that, once the base ROM works, customizations and enhancements can begin.

GPS isn't working, but that should be a simple fix that I can import from PRIMEE. Other than than, microSD isn't working either. That's just the nature of the Xoom ROM. I'll probably implement team Tiamat's workaround for that and we'll see how that goes from there...
Yeah, I'll make an update.zip later today after some studying...
