New to the tab from the xoom, question about battery. - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

I just picked up the tab today and i am liking it so much more than the xoom. Much much more. But the one thing I am concerned about is that the battery charging time is unbelievably slow.
The one thing I could say in the xooms favor was that the battery charging speed was supernatural. It literally took less than 40 minutes to charge the whole thing which would last 9 to 10 hours on normal use. That was the one thing about the xoom that was positively good.
So far I have had the tab charging for hours and it's still not full. I plugged it in at 8:14 with the battery at 8%, now its 11:44 and its still only at 74%. That's more than 3 hours and its not full. I think I remember reading that the battery is bigger and last up to 15 hours. If all that's true I can understand longer charge time but 4 hours is alot. Is this normal?
And how long does the battery really last? Does it really get 15 hours? That would be nice.

The battery is 7000 mAh, it takes me an average of 5 - 6 hours to charge depending how low I let the battery go.
Battery life on the tablet is great, sometimes I can go for 3 - 4 days on a single charge, sometimes a single day, it really depends how much I've used the tablet.

I also had the xoom for close to 3 months, and the xoom's battery not only charges considerably faster but I also feel that it last longer also than the 10.1, just something you will get use to.

Damn, I am really loving this tablet. Its SO much better than Motorola's crap. But I don't know if I can adjust to this battery. I can't leave it plugged in all day cause that defeats the purpose of having a light weight portable device. I guess ill have to see how it holds up after a full day of usage.

You all with battery charge time issues, why don't you guys put it in charge while you go to sleep, that way you'll have a fully charged tablet throughout the day. Until you guys are not sleeping in the night time or anytime in a 24 hours day.

This is exactly what I do. When I'm asleep I have it charging so when I wake I have a full battery.

i guess i dont use mine enough, i charge mine like every 3 days overnight... the battery is amazing...
actually i know i barely use it, im at work all day and only play with it at nights...

I charge it every 3-4 days, and I leave it overnight. I have no issues with the charging. The battery life is actually quite awesome.

My only complaint is idle-time battery life. If I leave it turned-on, but asleep, I find battery will discharge in ~2 days. That's not what I expected from the device while it basically sleeping!
Maybe poor app management on my part, I dunno.

Has to be something. Mine loses maybe 2% in the 9 or so hours I'm working. I have the wifi set to off when the tablet is locked.

Yeah I think it lasts longer also, but that part doesn't bother me so much. Its the charge time which kills me! 40 mins vs. 5+ hours is crazy. I am having a hard time adjusting ...
I do proof reading on the tab so I use it alot and when its plugged in it is very ergonomically unfriendly due to being tied down to a very short yet intrusive cable. Anyway, just a compromise I wasn't aware of.

The Samsung definitely doesn't rapid charge like the xoom, but it lasts all day and I greatly prefer usb charging options. At least I can use the Sammy charger for other stuff.

Well I'm glad I didn't get rid of my Xoom and get the 10.1 like I was planning on.I will wait on October when Asus brings out their new tablet with Kal-el processor.

Yeah, I never use it while it's plugged in, the cord is way too short unless you have an outlet right on your desktop
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App

10 feet cords on ebay for $3-4. Solves that issue. It sounds like you are complaining about the tab being plugged in to charge, and which is a silly thing to complain about. You say you are proofreading? You need to be on the move while doing so? Remember to charge your tab at night and you won't have issues. Don't bash our tab because you forgot to charge.
Sent from my Galaxy Tab 10.1 using the XDA Premium App

Agreed. USB extender cables work fine. In fact, splitters work too

I don't mean to start an argument with you but some of your reasoning is a bit skewed. First of all to say "our tab" (as if it's some fanboy fraternity is just silly) includes me as well because I also own one that I purchased with my own money. Secondly, I am not bashing it. I was originally asking a question to see if mine was performing normally then I stated how this is an inconveniance for me. Thirdly, customers are fully entitled to review their purchases and express their feelings and experience. This is how products IMPROVE. If every company could depend on foolish non-critical fanboy psychology to sell products, people like you would be paying twice as much for a product half as good.
To take issue with the way I use my tablet because I find a 5+ hour charging time an inconvenience on a mobile device is stupid. If you must know, I am proofreading in my spare time and help take care of my sick mother. I have to potentially be up at all hours and change my location frequently. And yes, to have to plug in a short and obtrusive cable for hours on end everywhere I go is an inconvenience. Neither did I criticize Samsung or your (or should I say "our" ) beloved tablet. I just stated the awkwardness and undesirability of the charge time.
If you need all other people to be unconditionally fanatic about some product so that you yourself can appreciate it, I think it has less to do with the actual product than some sociological mental issue.
Anyway I started writing with the intention of just mentioning the importance and value of being "objective" and I wanted to avoid coming across as a ****. I know... I know...

Obviously not a software issue then since both the xoom and the sgt are vanilla honeycomb.

The battery lasts on average 7-8 hours of use.

Xoom Battery Life

Anyone who owe an iPad prior to the Xoom can comment on the battery life? On the iPad, I can go on a week or two just on general browsing w/o having to charge. Just the tap to the top power and the screen turns off, not shutdown.
On the Xoom, how long does it last on general use? I know the spec said up to 9hrs, but I am more concern on general usage w/o having to do a full shutdown.
(assuming I get WIFI version, so with 3G turned off for those with 3G now)
Lots of posts about this. Engadget did a comparison of the original ipad and xoom did 8.22 hours and ipad had 9.26 or something like that, on continuous playback. I use mine nightly and charge it every few days, same as my ipad. Can't compare to the ipad 2 sice I won't be purchasing another iOS device.

I only had an iPad for a few weeks, but I'd say the battery life is comparable. Over the long run that one hour doesn't mean much. I charge it over night every other day or so, and I use it pretty heavily.

Thanks. I read that post and many others. I am less concern of continuous usage and more interested in occasional usage.
Charge once every 5 or 6 days should be okay. I was afraid it might be once a day or two like the android phone. Which kind of stink.
The iPad I have now, I charged it last Saturday, been using it about an hour or less a day just on typical browsing. I am at 50-60% battery life still. To me that is good. I don't have to do a shutdown and wait for it to boot each time. Just turn off screen with the tap of the power button.
I think the xoom/android will use more battery in this type of scenario for most users.
Depending on your Widgets and background syncing options . It should suffice though I am assuming.

I'm easily getting over 7 hours of video watching. I'm playing with different video codecs and bit rates to gain better quality and battery life.
Very time consuming, LOL.
I use it too much to let it sit but it just lasted 5 days with daily use around 5 hours. The unolugged fully charged Tuesday and only did small charged and it does with heavy use Saturday morning. Personally why get a device that you only are using for 5-7 hours a week?
It's because of the xooms warp drive... its not syncing with the flux capacitor. Don't worry they'll fix it with an update soon.

Ive had my xoom for a week now and I use it ALOT!!! playing games at lunch, email and note taking in meetings all day. Ive changed the thing 2x and both time it was still above 50% battery life. Moto did something right with this thing. LOVE IT.
5 - 7 hours is average. If I need to do stuff, I have HP Envy Laptop w/ SSD that boots fairly quick to do things. I want to use the tablet for quick things, like check email, browse the internet, read magazine, etc., Something that is instant on, do a few quick stuff for 15 - 30 minutes and be done.
I use it to study pdfs all day for my upcoming CCIE, and I can use it from 8am till I go to sleep at night without the turning the screen off all day. Well, except for lunch.

How is the battery life ?

Everywhere I read about this phone, I don't see it mention the battery life. With a big battery there should be some baterry review.
Galaxy S II has 4.3" screen and 1650 mAh battery,
Galaxy Note has 5.3" screen and 2500 mAh battery.
it looks like Note's battery life is not much but longer than S II

How long does it take to charge from drained to FULLY. I have the the infuse and it takes forever to charge, it is not fast charge like HTC is or any other smartphone. Samsung seems to take forever to charge compared to other Smartphones.

Time to charge will depend on the
1. battery capacity,
2. charger and
3. settings about how fast the battery can be charged
1- no control.
2- chargers are mostly 1mAp . Default charger for samsung gives only 650mAP ( at least in SGSII ) . So u can use a more powerful charger.
3. Kernel changes can be made to make charging faster
Downside of faster charging : Lower battery life in the long run.
Day one with a full charge in the morning.
Ofcourse I used it more than usual, its new you know....
I guess battery life will be sort of the same as the Galaxy S2, about 1 day of moderate use.
I think thats too short, way too short. (had a mophie juice for all my iPhones, and the Samsung S2 official battery pack)
3500 or 4000ma would be so much more convenient..... Room enough in the case of the note I guess.... Who cares about the few extra grams....

If you change it to 'When screen turns off' it should then terminate Wifi when your not using the phone.

I leave mine set to when the screen is off, that way I know full well when my screen is off the wifi (which is the biggest killer of battery life) is also off.

YABB Yet Another Battery *****ing Thread

Gawdang battery, lasted too long!
So my first android was the nexus one, then the galaxy s, then the nexus S. I am used to the "fantastic" battery life of android phones. So yesterday I was deciding on whether to get the galaxy nexus to continue the tradition, but decided to get the note instead.
I want to do the right thing and that is to do a full charge and full discharge on the first few rounds of battery life but it took AGES for it to discharge fully. I am so pleased with this, I now have better battery life than my wife's iphone.
******** If you see the battery chart, I could not resist playing with the phone so did a little charge there. I am also trying to avoid root as long as possible, after the so call "stock vanilla" experience, its nice to have toggles on the notification without jumping through loops
Wow. 6 hours. That's impressive

I got my Note on Thursday morning. I didn't have time to set it up until Friday evening. I fully charged the battery first. I've got gmail and twitter syncing, and bluetooth and wifi on. I've made a few calls and showed it off to my family on Christmas Eve. It hasn't been heavy use by any stretch, but I have yet to recharge the battery - it's at 33% right now with screen on time of just over three hours. I'm pretty satisfied so far.

So I don't understand this thread. How can you know how long battery last for if you part charge it?
Not much to understand, my friend. This thread was not made to prove anything, just to show I am real happy with my phone. You are completely right, I did charge it in the middle, I was transfering songs and movies out from the computer and forgot to take it off the usb.
I am now on the second from full to zero. Lets see how much screen time I can get, but already its a winner for me. 77% with 10h on battery and 1h 39m screen time.
Happy holidays all.

Congrats on your new purchases, may you have much joy with it, like I do mine.
i got the note a few days ago and im very pleased with the battery usage. right now on normal usage im on 48 hours of on time, with 40% battery left. display is the biggest usage of course, and has been on 2.5 hours. ive done lots of installing via wifi and playing with new apps and running games, and a few calls, etc. my old galaxy s would get 48 hours only with very minimal usage and nowhere near 2.5 hours of the display on.
So I am now on my 2nd discharge or 3rd and I rooted it, so there was a whole lot of plugging in and adb and stuff, but I think on a real discharge I can get away with about 4 hours screen time, that is stretching it i think but, generally still very very happy with it. Compared to the nexus S and the galaxy s before, this is heaven for me. I still maintain its better than the wife's 4S

Charging habits

I normally leave my Nexus 7 plugged in and turned on when not in use. Is this bad for the battery? Should I be turning it off and leaving it unplugged, or off and plugged in instead? Thanks
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
I wouldn't worry, batteries are much better now and last much longer now when used like this.
By the time its an issue you'll be looking for a new tab or you can simply replace the battery, it's easy on the n7.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
In my TF101 I charge it to 100%, then use it until android cries for power (around 15%) then charge again.
Sometimes I charge and use, other times I charge while off. Almost 2 years like this and battery life seems to be as good as when it was new.
I am doing the same thing on the N7.
Anyway, as dexter said, I think it's more easy nowadays than it was with NiMH / NiCd batteries. There are lots of recommendations, but surely most of them will render similar battery life.
I leave it on all the time, charge only when i am @ home or @ office when I notice it has dropped below 40-50%, no problems so far... If I turn it off, I wouldn't get notifications (even though I would on my phone)... but I kinda like to just take it whenever I like and not wait for it to boot...
I've read the more important factor is the opposite, don't let it drain down to 0%.

This. Complete discharge is bad for the battery and can cause it to fail completely. As long as one doesn't constantly deplete their battery, it should last the life of the tablet.

Official Battery Life Thread

so maybe I'm blind, but i didn't see a battery life thread yet. post some shots with screen on time and how much time off charger!
right now mine is pretty terrible since it's less than 24 hours since I got it.. but i do hope it gets better, because it seems my g2 had better battery life right off the bat, but I'm sure this thing just has to settle in after a few charge cycles!!
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 using Tapatalk.
For me, battery life suddenly doesn't matter as much, when it can charge so fast..
I'm in the same boat as OP. Think a few cycles will show how great this battery really is.
Same here. I'm on day 2, so I'm hoping it does improve.
battery life is pretty decent for me. Power using gets me through a day link to my moto 360 via bluetooth and on wifi about 50% of the time.
I've been listening to Poweramp since eight this morning. A little surfing, and I'm at 73%. I expect it might be a bit better once the battery has gone through a couple of charge cycles.
One thing I learned, was download booster is a huge battery hog! If you turn it on, it'll take days to charge to 100%.
I know the note is doing better than my old s3 though, because doing my same run using both my tracks and S health, rocket player, and taking panorama pics, I still used 10% less battery than my s3 did only running my tracks and rocket player.
Me trying to drain it. Amazing in my opinion

First cycle results not too bad if you ask me. Fully charged it yesterday when I got it and took it off the charger when charging was complete been off the charger ever since... I've been trying to kill it by playing games Web browsing YouTube phone calls and it still going strong...
Almost 12 hours or moderate use and the battery usage was 90%. To me coming from the Note 2 this is not an improvement. Anyone coming from a Note3 with any other thoughts.
This is my results coming from a 100% battery charge.
idk how the hell you guys are getting like 5 hour screen on time. how quick do you drop from 100 to 99 after you unplug from charger? mines pretty quick. it's annoying. the g2 would stick on 100 percent for 20 minutes of screen on time and an hour off charger. this phone is at 90 by then. ridiculous. maybe I'm just spoiled by the g2s amazing battery life.
right now I'm at 12 percent left, with 14 hours 45 minute off charger and 3 hour 26 minutes screen on time. android system is my humber one battery user.. not even screen. the hell?

I say give it a few more days in order to better judge the battery. For the G3, the first few days had terrible battery life. The battery would last less than 20hrs and about 3hrs screen time. I was getting ready to dump it, but soon the battery life picked up. Now I always get over 24hrs with at least 4.5hrs screen time. Obviously two different devices from different manufacturers, but the point is to not be quick to judge it. My Note 4 will probably be arriving early next week.

yeah i hear you. if i recall, my g2 wasn't great at start either... but i cant really remember. anyway here was my final stats for today. it's on the charger now for a bit before bed.
my android system is higher than the screen on which is weird... never had that before on a phone.
