Go to menu/settings/wireless & networks/mobile networks/access point names.
Should have at&t us, at&t us HSDPA and at&t us mms. at&t us HSDPA should be checked. If you dont have one of those apns it will screw with MMS etc. Also if your using a 3rd party sms/mms app be sure the settings are correct for your service provider. chomp, go, handcent etc.

Are you by any chance freezing anything with Titanium Backup?

Be sure that you have set "Apn type=default" in your Hsdpa apn...then it should work!

Go to setting>Wireless & Network setting>Mobile networks>APNs then hit the settings button and select "Reset to defaults"

Going to USA...how do I force disable Data?

I am going to the USA later this week and don't want to get stung with huge data roaming charges. Is there any way to force data to stay off, with an option to use wifi if needed? I used to use a program on my windows mobile called NODATA...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try this:
1. Type *#*#4636#*#* on your dial pad
2. Select "Phone Information"
3. Press "Menu" soft key
4. Select "More"
5. Select "Disable Data on Boot"
6. Reboot
Now data should be disabled (you won't see E/3G icons in the notification bar) and you can use WiFi whenever you want.
you can use my app "data on demand" for that (in the market). i would also recommend turning settings->wireless and network->mobile networks->data roaming OFF! this always worked for me!
I was just going to post the same thing...
Don't anybof the standard system settings provide the functionality to do the same? e.g. limit to 2g only and/or turning off data updates and/or data roaming etc. ?
Will check the app out though... If you do the keypad option, how do you then reenable or does it just come back on with a reboot meaning you have to do it each time you turn the phone on...?

Setting 2G only wouldn't stop data use, only high-speed data (though that would curtail the rate at which you can accumulate it). There is a setting to not use data while roaming, which should work, though entering incorrect data in the APN settings as I think these programs do would work too.

Settings->Wireless and Network->Mobile Networks->Uncheck Data roaming
That will disable any data use on networks other than your home-network! No other settings/configs are necessary!

Good. That's what I was hoping for/assumed it may do.
this topic should be stickied
Install APNdroid. You can place a widget on the homescreen to turn on, off APNs:

Thanks guys, much appreciated!

I was wondering this also as i am due to go away, but i still want to send and receive MMS (as it is included in my allowance) whilst away. So the question is, if i choose not to have data whilst roaming will this also stop MMS as this is also data? I have a suspicion that it would, so, would the only other option be to just put some bogus APN settings in for internet but keep my MMS settings as it should be? Any ideas? Thanks a lot.
Don't know why people are going into this vast overkill....
Just go into your settings, wireless networks, ensure "Enable data while roaming" is unchecked. In fact, it will be unchecked by default, at least in the Bell rom.
This setting works perfectly (I just went to the US this past weekend), so i see no reason to screw around with the APN or reboot the phone or install other hacky apps. If this box is unchecked the instant you switch to roaming your data is disabled.

MMS settings in Android

I cannot seem to send any MMS messages with any Android rom I try. I have tried just about every different setting with no luck. Could this have anything to do with my windows based rom that's on the phone or does anyone have any ideas?
You need to program your carriers MMS APN. Google will serve you there. Apn is under settings, wireless and networks, apn when you see T-Mobile or whatever press menu, new apn and find android mms values for your carrier last entry should be mms and there shouldn't be any button to select new apn in the list.

Hi MrBox23, maybe you can give me a suggestion regarding mms apn problem.
I can receive a message that reports me I got a mms with a button to download it... the only way I found to download it is to remove the internet apn parameters and leave only the mms parameters.
Same thing for outgoing mms.
Is there any solution to this problem???
I searched around but with no success....
I don't know make sure apn is labeled mms mine coexist just fine mms has no button.
There needs to be two apns one for internet one for mms that's the way simple mobile is anyway tmobile should be same format idont know about att

Do you have Telkilla (sp) listed as an APN under settings? If so I've read where that can cause issues with MMS. If you do have that selected just delete it and use the T-Mobile ones.

T-Mobile Data
My MyGlacier 4G MINE!!!
just go into Menu > Settings > wireless and networks > mobile networks > access point names, then hit menu and "reset to default" and make sure that the T-Mobile Data is selected after. Then turn off the phone and turn it back on ... the MMS in and out will now start working.
Just got this from t-mobile customer service: go to Menu > Settings > wireless and networks > mobile networks > access point names, then click on T-Mobile Data and make sure you have the entry for MMSC, "htt ://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc" without the quotes. (Don't forget http instead of "htt" in the address. It didn't allow me to post otherwise)
Hope this helps!
I had the same problem. Was it "Generic Network Error"?. The reps at T-Mobile said it was due to the software version, which should have been upgraded to 2.2.1
i was looking for the solution for this too!
Please post questions in Q&A section. Thank you

did the steps covered in the posts and I still can't send. I entered the htt...address and even factory reset (because I wanted 7 screens). Nothing allows me to send MMS yet.
I have not been updated. Just got my phone yesterday.
EDIT:
I must point out that under T-Mobile Data I have the following showing 'not set':
Proxy
Port
Username
Password
Server
MMS Proxy
MMS Port
Authentication Type
I'm guessing that might be my issue? I don't know if these settings were to take place with the 2.2.1 update or if there is a way to get them all entered before that. I don't even know if there is supposed to be anything in there. I manually entered the address in the MMSC. If I didn't, that would say 'not set' as well.

All I did was reset to default and made sure T-Mobile Data was selected. Works like a charm (provided I have good network connection)
My default settings are:
Name: T-Mobile Data
APN: epc.tmobile.com
Proxy through MMS Port: Not Set
MMS protocol: WAP 2.0
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
Authentication Type: Not Set
APN type: default,supl,admin,dun

MMS and Aurora

Hello there,
I have the latest Aurora ICS version, but when I enable mobile data and try to download MMS, nothing happens, I simply can't transfer them.
Any ideas how I can fix this?
Thanks a lot, it would really help.
Do you have the mms profile properly configured according to your network provider(APN)? And did you make sure your data is really enabled in the settings->mobile networks?

Just google "APN MMS yourprovider". Take an example and fill it in. Report back if it works

yep exactly after that you just need to go to settings->mobile network-> access points names and create a new option with the settings that you obtained from the web. or you could just call your service provider and ask for the mms apn or profile

Message Center number for Nexus 4??

I am unable to send MMS, and tech support is telling me that I need to enter a message center number into my phone, however, they are stumped and so am I as to where to enter it in order to enable mms?
Google tech support is telling you this? Call up your carrier or search for its APN settings. Who's your carrier? Everything else working?

Sorry, Rogers Wireless tech support was telling me this...
He said to go to my stock messaging app and go to settings and look for a spot to enter my MMS "telephone number" -- but I didnt see an option for that in the stock messaging app.
Ok so as an update.
All of my settings are per Rogers APN and everything, checked using the *#*#4636#*#*
I turned off my wireless and tried again with the stock messaging app, and it worked no problem, so it appears the hang up is when the phone is in wifi mode?
Edit: tried again with wifi and it worked no problem, but only with the stock messaging app, not with GO SMS
SMSC is only needed for SMS. For MMS to work your APN is what matters.
Now with that out the way, does your APN specify "mms" in the APN Type field? GoSMS should try to use that as a result. Never used it so don't know all it's details
