was bored and went to best buy to get some kinect games<2 for 60> and played with the acer iconia and thats about it. i tapped the app icon several times and after 4 times it finally changed. swiping took a while.very laggy and unresponsive, the huwei was faster. the housing looked to be cheaply made and felt even cheaper....i do love my xoom, and i am a xoom fanboy, but i am not niaeve as to where i wont give something a chance...just wasnt impressed at all.not While i was there though, i cleaned up their xoom and installed spareparts, locked brightness to highest, changed background and loaded the xda widget... it was running alot better after i got done..anyways thats my pointless post.
The display Xooms are always laggy and generally much crappier than the actual units too.
I do understand your views of it though. I don't think anyone argues that the Acer outside hardware will be more solidly built than the Xoom though.
FWIW all the videos and reviews I see of the Iconia Tab look just as smooth as the Xoom. Its basically the same internals and same OS, there shouldn't be any ridiculous difference in user experience between them.
yeah..prob just crappy displays...still ugly imo..you cant change that!

Definitely.
But display units always drive like crappy rental cars. Just gotta take those experiences with a grain of salt.
I played with it at bestbuy today.
It does feel much cheaper,
but the screen was noticeably better
Bought an Acer Iconia on Friday. Definitely a great device for the price. On par with the Xoom in my eyes. I ended up returning it though. Not because I was unhappy with it, but because I picked up a brand new WiFi only Xoom off Craigslist the next day for $480.
Heck I played with an Iconia and it was slower than the Xoom as well as it felt cheaper. I could grab the Iconia and flex it whereas the Xoom I couldn't.

My Iconia A500 touch screen is very responsive. It was worth the $150 more over the G-tablet. Glad I bought it. Many of the reviews I've read actually prefer the Iconia to the Xoom. They're so similar, but the Iconia is $449 instead of $589
the aconia is a nice tablet played with it a bit a few days ago, still prefer the xoom for the build quality.

woa thats no good. i definitely be unhappy with something like that...
my xoom is built like a tank
The Iconia feels like a Yugo after handling a Xoom. Unless the Transformer has a better exterior build I will be sticking with the Xoom.
I returned the Acer for the wifi xoom and couldn't be happier that I did. Acer is nice but the battery was weak and those cut corners really got on my nerves. The Xoom is a much better device IMO.
The thing that has bugged me a lot on the Xoom is the quality of the screen. Other than that it feels a bit unbalanced at times, but overall its a pretty good piece of hardware.
I'm hoping for a good build quality on the Transformer as the screen is supposed to be better on it.
I saw both in Currys yesterday for the first time, the Acer felt cheap and plasticy, loved the Xoom and ended up buying it.

I may be wrong but I think you guys might be talking about the Asus Eee Transformer. There is no plastic feeling about the Acer Iconia since its back is more of a metallic feel. All reviewers complain about the cheap feel on the Asus back cover area.

I have read a lot of Transformer reviews (I have one!) and I've not seen any of them complaining about the plastic back being "cheap" - that's not to say such reviews don't exist, but I've not seen *any* and you've said "all reviewers" .
If anything, it feels very high quality for plastic.

Dave
There is an xda widget?
yes there is a widget......and no...im talking about the iconia, not the

That is the last description I would give to the Acer Iconia A500. I have one and thats bogus. Very solid. Read the PC world review of the A500 and this guy gives the good and bads and comparison with the xoom and ipad. I might say that about the G-Tablet I sent back, but not the A500
Do you have a tablet that you are on the fence about and thinking of returning it for the new Galaxy Tab 10.1 (US model)
Maybe your tablet has more ports or a keyboard dock or Google's baby(xoom) for updates.
I'd rather have a transformer but I think I'll stick with my galaxy tab anyway
I may return my Xoom for one of these. Depends on the reviews when they're released.

I took my Blackberry Playbook back to BestBuy today. I was actual really impressed with the Playbook. However, I feel Android is going to be the future of Tabs, and that the 8.9 would be a better every day use, portable form factor.
I managed to procure a Google IO 10.1 which will be here Monday. Really looking forward to these tablets!

My xoom.. Motorola's handling of software upgrades (canada gets sd card functionality, but nothng for the us) is a joke, the screen is marginal and it is uncomfortable to hold on long flights.
Ultimately, my xoom bricked itself and never turned back on.. Thank goodness for costco's return policy.
My G-slate already went back. Eventhough I got it for $430 with no contract...
I might try the acer w500, people are saying it handles 1080p pretty well, this doesnt, also lack of expandable memory is a killer, although 3g is the only reason ill keep it for a while at least.
A nook color I'd prefer a slate that was meant to run honeycomb.
I'm not really returning it, just giving it to my friend.
I returned my Transformer. It was kinda tough, because I really will miss the microSD, micro USB, and mini HDMI ports on the tablet, plus the ability to use the most sweet keyboard dock ever.
I'm sacrificing a lot for the Galaxy Tab 10.1. But the Transformer did seem to have a lot of small annoyances too. Back was slippery. Glass was very thin. Tablet creaked a bit. Bezel was ugly. Felt a little cheap.
I'm going with the Galaxy Tab because it's lighter, something I value a lot in a 10 inch tablet, even small weight differences become noticeable over time.
The Galaxy Tab just looks a lot better. I don't mind admitting I care about the appearance of my tablet. Galaxy Tab looks sleek and elegant. Transformer looked quite ugly in my eyes with it's sharp angles and extra wide aluminum bezel.
Hoping the glass on the Galaxy Tab is thicker. I could push on the Transformer glass and easily see it bending like it was some cheap resistive display. Nothing like my iPad that doesn't bend at all.
I did the same thing, now I hope the GT10.1 will not disappoint me.

I'm basing that off of owners who have posted in forums, not reviews. Moreover, I'm not really aware of any tablet review that's ever gone into how slippery the back of the tablet was.

Samsung says they put an easy grip material on the back to keep the tablet from slipping.
Though looking at the back of the Google IO tablets, they look different and may not have the easy grip material, and instead got the Android tiles. So maybe the final retail Galaxy Tab will be better.
I returned an a500 yesterday to wait for this tablet to come out. Don't fail me now samsung
Returned my transformer. Many annoying problems that were mostly solved by rebooting, but once the touch screen died I just returned it to newegg.
Also returned the tf after my screen stopped responding to touch. Will be picking up the tab come June 8th
I'm really surprised with myself and I'm sure I've been shunned away from the A500 forums, but I too returned my A500 for the 10.1.
I've been a huge fan of Samsung products and I didn't want to change now. I enjoyed my A500, but I feel like the online community and manufacture support will be better with this.
I hate waiting until the 8th of June for it, but I'm willing to do it for a sleeker, thinner, lighter model. I'm a professional firefighter and I hated taking my 17" laptop to work with me for 24 hours. I was originally going to purchase the Xoom, but the price made it not worth it for me. The A500 was perfect, but again, I feel like I will gain so much more here. The HDMI, USB, and MicroSD did absolutely nothing for me. I was surprised how little I used it. I never even used the MicroSD slot.
Anyways, like everyone else on here, I'm hoping that in the end this will be a good decision.

Yes! Stick with it. I also have a skyrocket which is the same size as your phone. The more you use the GNote, the more you will get used to its size. Give it a few weeks. Everything else else will feel small after that time!
Came from HTC HD2 4.3"

My hands are probably smaller than average and so it felt a bit big in my hands at first. Within a few days I'd gotten totally used to it, and holding my HD2 then felt very strange!
Pockets were fine from day one.

This is one of the nicest pentile displays. I miss the clean LCD looks of the SAMOLED+ display, but the viewing angle of the Note display is amazing! I was afraid it would get greenish or purple at extreme angles.
Overall, this is a great balance between phone and tablet. I intend to turn this thing into a little computer.
Eagerly waiting for CM7 or CM9.

In what way does the phone feel unusual/bad in your hands as a cellphone?
Dialing numbers? Just curious.
I got used to the size almost immediately - but then again, I'm not really a one handed phone user. If you are, the new 'one handed dialpad/keyboard' in the recent firmwares might be useful.

it didn't feel weird when i first bought it (2 weeks ago) but it was different. now everything else feels smaller, i own an ipod so after using my phone and then when i go to my ipod to play games it feels super small. only sad thing about the phone is the keyboard is f'ing annoying, i tried tumblring on my phone and like a million mistakes whereas my ipod doesn't make such mistakes but the screen is too small to post long posts so i finally changed the keyboard to smart keyboard which i think is the best
Any still using original Samsung keyboard????
Like the rest here, everything else feels small after using the Note! With it's HD screen and slim design, it blows everything away.
It's a lot easier than carrying an iPad around everywhere.

I read someone else say that when you get used to the size that you can't do without it. He was right. The phone is huge. After a couple of weeks its no big deal. But the advantages of the big screen becomes normal and you couldn't do without it.
So give it a couple of weeks and see how you go. If its no good then maybe the soon to be released 4.6" Sony Xperia Ion with narrower 16:9 screen will suit better. Or Galaxy Nexus if you can live without SDHC expansion.

I remember when I upgraded my HTC Desire S to SGSII that it fell so big and I had a hand ache for a week. The same happened with Note - it takes week to get used to it but after that (as for others), everything else looks small and Note seems like normal phone to me.
But there's one thing - gel transparent S cover (mine is red). I had it on my SGS2 ans I bought it for note also, because those phone are so thick and light and yet so Smith, that it feels uncomfortable to hold them - I always feel that they sooner or later slip and fall from my hand.
The S cover has rough sides, so it feels better and it prevent the phone from sliding on the table also. Another thing is, that it has little edges over the display (it's 1mm thicker thanbthe phone, so if you put your phone on the table display down, it sits on the rubber edge ans not the display itself.
Try it for yourself

I'm feeling it too, especially when I see girls with Note in the street and transport. It seems a lot bigger than mine...

I've got XL hands, so when I see girls/guys-with-girly-hands use it... I'm like man that's humongous. Mine never looks large, but it feels large with the TPU case on which I only have for the kickstand.
If Samsung shaved the bezels, made it thinner and added a kickstand... I'd be right at home. And if they trimmed it down a 0.1 inch, then I could do acrobatics on one hand ; )

Not really.
Not at all.
If anything, it's too thin. There isn't a lot to grab on to.
Not at all - I can hold it pretty comfortably.
I don't know, as mine is still out for delivery.
However, I am using a Kyocera Hydro Vibe as an interim phone, and like you I am coming from a Galaxy SII. The Hydro Vibe is roughly the same dimensions as the Z3C, and I can tell you, I prefer the Vibe's size over that of the GSII. This link might help you get a better idea of of how the phones stack up with each other.

Well I'm coming from (still using) a Jolla, which is +3.7L,+3.1W,+1.3D (mm) larger than the Z3C. and the latter feels massively more compact. Personally I find it too thin.
Relative to your SII, the Z3C. is +2L,-1.2W,+0.1D (mm). Slightly longer (not really relevant for handling), less wide ... and if you think you can feel 0.1mm thicker ... you're more sensitive than me. I'd say you shouldn't have any concerns at all. It should feel less 'clunky' than the SII due to being less wide.
Heck, I'd even take an extra millimeter or two, if it meant I could get something more than this paltry, meager two day battery life.
Thin is overrated.
Coming from an HTC One S, thickness is great, the former I had to use with a case as it was actually too thin. I was surprised by the weight of the Z3C though.

Yup. I won't mind it being 1 or 2 mm thicker if they use that extra thickness to good use, like filling it up with battery goodness, or maybe even wireless charging.
I don't fully agree with the present trend of bigger display sizes, thinner phones and QHD. A little over-kill, IMO.
Had it in my hands all night, it needs more beef ... Too worried about not having not enough grip.
Feels great in the hand. I'd say the thickness is spot on. Feels well-built and solid.
Not too thick and not too thin. Perfect for me. It looks thin though sitting on a table. I think it is due to it's sandwich style.
